The debate on how to proceed with the aquisition of the northern delta went on for several hours, and a rough plan had beem formed. Israfel was about to address the next step when a messenger, one of the DarkElves, entered the throneroom.
" M'lord King, a message from the leaders of Deatheron."
Israfel looked up with a start. " Deatheron? What is it, man? Out with it!"
" M'lord, it seems that an audience is requested to discuss the terms of a Treaty of Alliance with Chthlu. They are looking to expand their borders west and south to run along our eastern lands."
Khilgau spoke up. " And what is it they want of us, Lord Elf?"
" They were not specific, m'lord, but it would seem that they seek both a base on the Southern Sea and a ....buffer....on their future western border. It would seem to me that they think a combined naval fleet of Deatheronian/Chthluan vessals would prove a potent force in the event of hostilities breaking out."
Feratu eyed the Elf suspiciously. " And who are you, Elf, that you would surmise anything about the doings of your Vampyr rulers?"
The DarkElf stared back at the hated leader of the Venym Clan and said, " I am Aval, High King of the Dathosoi. And I would take care as to who you think you rule."
There was a rustle of murmuring at the name of Aval, who was known and respected throughout the land. It was the Dathosoi who had secured the access to the islands in the war against the humans, so long ago.
Feratu glared at the slim figure of Aval. Through gritted teeth, he said, " My apologies, your Majesty. I was simply wondering if there were room for TWO kings in this land."
Israfel waved his hand for silence. " Enough! If there are no objections, I will send with King Aval a response to the Deatheron government that I will certainly entertain the possibility of an alliance."
As expected, none but Feratu and Piotr had any objections, so it was determined that a favorable response was indicated.
" M'lord King, if it is amenable to the Deatherons, I would invite their representatives here to Castle Sanctus where the discussion can commence."
Aval bowed. " Very well, your Majesty." Feratu stiffened at the Elf's addressing Israfel in such a manner, as it had not yet been decided if Israfel was to be High King. " I will personally relay your message." He bowed once again and departed.
"Quite an interesting proposal, m'lord King. I've heard some pretty fantastic things about these Deatherons."
" Hmmm, yes. Well, we shall see, we shall see.........."

The Lich Emperor sat upon his throne looking across to the members of his Imperial Court. This court consisted of hundreds of Vampire courtiers and retainers. It also had some of the nobility from the farthest reaches of the Imperium.
The Lich's attention was drawn to one of the Dukes of the western Dukedoms. His name was Aleric Van Losresn the duke of Losresn. This Vampire Lord was the infamous patriarch of Great House Van Losresn and commander of the Western Legions. His and influence were great within the Imperium and he had requested a meeting with his Most Unholy One.
The Vampire Lord moved with ease practically gliding through the crowd of retainers and other riffraff. The only people that stopped his advance were the infamous Black Cloaks the personal Bodyguards of the Emperor. The Black Cloak Knights moved out of the Duke's way when the Lich raised his right hand to give them the order to back off. The Duke reached the bottom of the Emperor's dais and kneeled to the ground.
The Lich Emperor quickly said, "You wish an audience with me Lord Aleric? How may I be of service to you?"
The Vampire Lord quickly responded, "My Emperor, I did not mean to imply that you were under direct compulsion to answer my summons. It is just that we need to talk about our neighbors in the land of Chthlu."
The Lich Emperor glared and said, "What about the Land of Chthlu? I have sent a message to request a meeting for an alliance between our two nations. You know we need help in our great mission to bring an end to the age of mortals. If they are truly controlled by fellow Vampires they should see the glorious mission our goddess has set before us must be done."
The Vampire Lord replied quickly, "I did not mean to argue it is just that they may see our expansion as a threat to their domain. I mean my forces have already begun marching towards their borders. We could be giving them the impression of a surprise attack. We will have nearly 5 Legions along their borders and now were giving them an invitation for alliance if these people think in the old ways they will believe it to be a trap!"
The Lich sighed and said, "My loyal servant, I have no intention of crossing the border and into Chthlu. I merely want to expand my territory and destroy the remaining human tribes to the west and the southern tribes along the Blood River."
The Vampire nodded and said, "I understand your reasoning. I just hope the residents of Chthlu are as understanding." Lord Aleric stood up from his kneeling position and walked away towards the chamber doors.
The All Mighty Lich Emperor watched his vassal head out and then sighed. It annoyed him greatly that his most powerful vassal disagreed with him. It would not change his decision but the disagreement did give him time to reflect on the matter.
The Emperor watched his court and continued to wait for a response from his Chthlu neighbors.

Aval reached the Palace of the Deatharonian Emperor without incident, and entered the Great Hall as Van Losresn was exiting it. Aval nodded at the Duke and continued towards the Emperor. Looking for and receiving the Emperor's nod to come ahead, the Elfen King knelt and bowed his head.
"Your Majesty, High King Israfel has indicated that he is most anxious to meet with you to discuss the possibility of an alliance between your nation and that of Chthlu. He hasn't any problem with the movement of troops towards his eastern border. In fact, he invites you to consider the idea of a Common Zone between our nations, a zone that can accomodate the citizens of both nations while being ruled by neither. Simple courtesy and common sense would be the order of the day.
As an FYI, Chthlu has already begun it's advance into the delta area where the humans are encamped. We do not anticipate much resistance. When Chthlu is in control of this area, we will be in a much better position to build our defenses and, perhaps, join them with yours. The High King has a vision similar to your, m'lord. That is, a world as free of the human parasite as is feasible. There is, of course, the necessity for food and breeding.
I myself am in favor of an alliance between the two nations even though I am not of the vampyric strain. As you may know, we Elves make up eighteen percent of the Chthluan population. There are also a few dwarves and trolls, as well as a small settlement of Lycans in Chthlu, but their combined population is only at two percent of the total.
If your Majesty wishes, I can hopefully answer any questions you may have."
The Elven King bowed once again, then stood with his hands behind his back, waiting for the Emperor's response.....
