That list's going to get LONG.
Here's the official discussion thread. Talk about anything nonspecific. Rules, members, etc. Certain things go in certain threads, such as RP-specific discussions go in OOC threads or over IMs. Not here. Discussion about the maps, for example, go in the Map thread, and things relating to membership go in the Membership thread. Don't be afraid to talk out here, unless you've ticked me off. Even then, here's a good place to do it.
Anyway, I'd like to point something out to North Mack. Most of us have way more than 750 thousand people. You're...Not a Superpower. I know our populations seem to be a bit inflated for the placement we've got. Should we bump the Population division up to 1000 instead of 100? It might make things more proportionate. Ideas?

Mmph. Not really. Assuming this place is about the size of Europe, and we've averaging out at WW1 tech living conditions, and further assuming that I'm the size of, say, France, maybe smaller, we've just got relatively Europe-like living conditions. Or we could just double the scale on the map - the same effect as halving our populations.
(It'd be a bit of bother making people go through with it again. But if it's really needed, I'm sure we can do it.)

Well, we're not only doing WW1 tech. I'm doing Old West tech, early Industrial Revolution. Some are doing Medieval.

It fit to have my nation be one with a low population so I used a factor or 20,000 to reduce mine.
Changing the reduction will not affect me so it would be up to the others.

Wow. I guess I'm the pipsqueek of the world then. I have a mere 60,000.

Just how far is technology alowed to progress. I think WW1 was teh limit? I thought I was good to go, but it turns out WW1 happened earlier than I thought. I have something I want to use, but it didn't come into existance until 1930 and wasn't patented in 1932.

yeah. WWI was 1912 to 1918 (17?)
i just love looking at pictures of the big WWI artillery pieces, like the german train mounted one that could fire from france and hit britain.
it was like a 20in or 24 inch, or someting insanley huge.

Artillery wouldn't work for me. My territory consists of one massive forest. Unless I'm hunting birds by the flock, of course.

Technically WWI didn't end until 1928, I think, because the USA's declaration of War wasn't repealed until the terms of Germany's surrender were agreed on. But we're using 1919 as the end of WWI. All technologies up to the end of 1919 are available.

hmm... just noticed this. I said the technology makes it a superpower compared to its neighbors, the lower tech, non RPed random nations that fill the spaces. not in comparison to the rest of the world, just to its immediate neighbors

Bah, I am going to have to say sorry if I take a while to respond to stuff atm. Trials are comming up and I still have stuff to do. I hopefully will be on as often as I can, but if a while between posts this is why.
I apologize in advance.
I have an idea to limit people technologically (and make high technology less attractive) - ban assembly lines. In order to produce large numbers of technological machines, you will need THOUSANDS of highly skilled artisans. This means you will have fewer farmers or mages, and cannot also have top-class arcane universities or rich supplies of food.
I intend to play Tanal accordingly. Save our priests, we have minimal magic. Tanal is also dependent upon food imports, and our fallback plan involves turning our navy into a fishing fleet.
Conversely, you could have a lower-tech nation, but one that will be more self-sufficient food-wise. Alternatively, you could have a magic-dependent nation (which might also allow you to supply yourself with food).

Perhaps - an even better idea would be to add population into the mix, so that one would have three fields to play with, technology, magic and population. After all, I can't see why tech and magic can't co-exist and assist one another (provided the conditions are right).

No, we're still up and at 'em.
Honestly, I see Calimshan becoming a VERY powerful state, being based off of the Arabian/Persian/Ottoman Empires. Hell, I'd LIKE to see it become powerful.

You know, I am kinda wondering if an off site forum would make it easier to locate Threads and keep them from being burried by the rest of the II Board Posts.
I am aware that off site forums often die fast but they also help organize posts so they are easier to locate.
Thoughts?
Perhaps we could use one for a Thread Listing and to converse with each other arranging the RPs that will take place on the II boards. The data on the nations could be stored here as well as other background and OOC info.
The RP would take place on the NS boards but the rest of the background stuff would be unseen on the companion site. That is my suggestion

It would help with organization, on the other hand, they're often (For some reason) unpopular and do die fast. We could put it to a vote to see how many wouldn't mind making it offsite, how many would oppose but support if they lost the vote, and who would just plain leave...I like what we have, but I'm always up for petition.
SInce we have 17 members, if 5 or so ask me, I'll put it up for a vote, okay?

I mean to keep all the IC stuff on the NS forums but the OOC stuff would be moved to a forums specificlly designed to store our other data as well as behind the scenes communications we would be using to coordinate our RPs. There would be links to the NS Threads where the IC action takes place.
We need the IC actions to take place on NS so it not only attracts new players but also keeps SNW alive. It just would be run OOCly from the off site location in the example I suggested.
BTW, TG for you Valley

Oh, I wouldn't mind doing that at all. That way we could also have linking partners. Yeah, if I get a few 'go ahead!'s, I'll set it up.

Off-site forums tend to work well for storing information, so it's an aye here.

Balrogga, would you mind doing the honors? I'm going to be busy the next couple of weeks, as I'm moving to South Carolina. You and Naggeroth can rule over while I'm gone. I'll continue my operations as leader until then, but you can set up the forums.

Here is the basic site. As soon as Naggeroth and HT join, I'll give them rights to help.
While we are getting things set up, the rest can join and get their basic info posted (or at least join for now).

Everyone can join with their character nations now. Be sure to place your factbook for your nation so everyone's can be located easier.

I'm using WWI technology, although my soldiers are just humans.
However, I am also recognizing the use of magic, and maintain my own force of users of the Art.
I'm doing a mishmash of technologies, including semiautomatic rifles but excluding steam engines (due to a lack of coal).

Be sure to post all that data on the SNW Forum site. That way others can find out what they need to know without cluttering the RP woth OOC posts.
The link is listed a couple posts back.
