History:

Before 2005, the nation of Trivalvia was actually two; the mainland republic of Trivalvia and the kingdom of Bivalvia. Both countries, having enjoyed a long period of close relations, elected to unite on August 26, 2005, becoming the current Democratic Republic of Trivalvia.

Alliances Forged and Broken

Trivalvia's first two years under its first President, William MacKenzie, was marked with growing pains. Trivalvia began to move toward becoming a minor power, claiming various islands off its coast, acquiring the island of Isle d'Monovalve as a major territory, and forging good relations with some of the nations on the Nova Europan continent, culminating in the Sussex conference of late 2006 that formed the Nova Europan Alliance (NEA).

The Nova Europan Alliance, however would prove to be MacKenzie's stumbling block. Various disputes between Ackistan and other NEA members, with outsider nation Clandonia Prime being an external aggressor, led to failing confidence inside Trivalvia of the NEA's effectiveness, and of MacKenzie's efforts at diplomacy. Exploiting this loss of confidence, Tony Harrington was able to force an election in early 2007, unseating MacKenzie and installing himself as the 2nd President of Trivalvia. Harrington's first act in office were to pull Trivalvia out of the NEA, a move that made many enemies of former ally nations.

The Green Revolution
MacKenzie was battered, but unbowed, and over time began to organize a grassroots effort to remove Harrington and attempt to restore some of the directives he had championed; namely, greater relations and involvement in world affairs, and a shift towards a greener economy and infrastructure. His efforts resulted in the formation of the Progressive Democratic Federal (PDF) party, and to force a vote of no confidence in the Harrington government. Harrington's response was to declare martial law. The resulting conflict over the next nine days, known now as the "Green Revolution" for the colours of the flags flown by the forces under MacKenzie's banner, would see the Trivalvian military broken and the economy hobbled, but it ultimately ended with Harrington's removal from office. MacKenzie served as interim leader until the election of July 15, 2009, where he was formally elected as Trivalvia's third president.

Rebuilding
Trivalvia is now working to rebuild after the damage, physical, economic, and moral, dealt to it by the Green Revolution.

How are Beiraq and myself hostile?
Trivalvia
20-09-2006, 23:45
"Hostile" in this context means nations that have either openly threatened Trivalvian security (your threat to Trivalvia when it attempted to open negotiations with TWSP) or committed warcrimes without any sign of remorse (Beiraq's targetting of civilians and use of chemical weapons in its part of the TWSP war).

Results of a nation considered hostile: Trivalvian businesses and citizens are barred from dealing with / travelling to that nation. Aircraft and oceangoing vessels entering Trivalvian territory from that nation will be under scrutiny or refused entry depending on circumstances. Diplomatic channels (if any) remain open.

In short: you're not an enemy... but we don't trust you :p

[OOC: Then that would mean that Blackhelm Confederacy/Griffencrest Corporation is better off classified as an "Unfriendly". ;) :p

Anyway, nice factbook, Trivalvia. It's a good effort, but it needs some better formating and organization.]

Major changes to the nation here, so bear with me while I explain.

Recently, I managed to determine who my neighbors on land were (and was pleased to learn I had friendly relations with most of them :D ) and since one had a map of his territory and we shared a border, I decided to adjust my map to be seamless with his.

Well, that was a mess and a half! We had entirely different scales - he had 1 pixel = 5 km, while I was 1 pixel = 1 km. Rather than convince him to reduce his scale, I adjusted mine. Made combining the maps easier, but now my nation was suddenly much larger than it was thought to be. So I'm retconning my geography section - we'll just say it was always this size, kay?

Thanks, although I expect that a lot of contracts for vehicles and ships will likely go to Trivalvian contractors, some small arms would be in order.

OOCly, the biggest problems with the Trivalvian military are as follows:
1. Not enough troops. Even before Harrington started gutting the military, Trivalvia never insisted on maintaining a large force to begin with. This is changing as the need for a larger military is necessary (the fact that the Free forces had to rely on foreign allies to help carry the day drove this home, as did various invasions that happened elsewhere).
However, the fact that the army was divided against itself - and that some army units were responsible for atrocities (the Sussex massacre, the killing of prisoners in New Moncton, and the school tragedy in Trivalviapolis) means that army recruiters will have their work cut out for them...
2. Outdated equipment and lack of special roles. The navy saw this especially; the Asher-class frigates were useless in stopping enemy air power, the Guardian cruisers fared better but still suffered, and all three ship designs were weak in dealing with enemy missile fire. A lack of aircraft carriers and submarines also meant that the main combatants were battleships, and we all saw how that turned out (Trivalvia had three battleships at the start - it now has one).

I'm still going to insist on a Canadian/British model for the army, although the navy and air forces might see some unique adjustments. Certainly some new ship and vehicle designs will be introduced.

Interesting. More heavily armed than the recently-introduced "Shrew" - might serve as a good heavy patrol vehicle.

Okay. If nothing else, it will give infantry forces a little more punch. Send them over. How many are we talking about, exactly?

EDIT: no problem, CP. TG recieved and responded to.

Trivalvia
26-08-2007, 23:15
A very good question, Naasha... I am not exactly sure.

I suppose a formal invitation to rejoin would have to be issued to the Trivalvian government from the NEA governing body, in whatever form it is in these days. Right now, Trivalvia's position would be an official, "outside, wanting in."

Urgh, a bit late...it's Southeast Asia BTW, both IC and OOC. The reason is because I had to settle for this horrible misspelling of my native region IRL. Please refer to me as Southeast Asia both IC and OOC, for I get annoyed that I'm not refered to as an incorrect spelling.

Now, about your factbook. How about going into detail about your history and having your factbook link to a more elaborate main article?
Trivalvia
27-08-2007, 15:19
Hm... Worth a try. It might have to take a backseat while other priorities are taken care of. Among other things, I plan to set up a "military organization/order of battle thread" and I'll likely have a link from the factbook to said thread.

Once that's done, I'll probably be able to concentrate on my history better.
