History:
Before 2005, the nation of Trivalvia was actually two; the mainland republic of Trivalvia and the kingdom of Bivalvia. Both countries, having enjoyed a long period of close relations, elected to unite on August 26, 2005, becoming the current Democratic Republic of Trivalvia.
Alliances Forged and Broken
Trivalvia's first two years under its first President, William MacKenzie, was marked with growing pains. Trivalvia began to move toward becoming a minor power, claiming various islands off its coast, acquiring the island of Isle d'Monovalve as a major territory, and forging good relations with some of the nations on the Nova Europan continent, culminating in the Sussex conference of late 2006 that formed the Nova Europan Alliance (NEA).
The Nova Europan Alliance, however would prove to be MacKenzie's stumbling block. Various disputes between Ackistan and other NEA members, with outsider nation Clandonia Prime being an external aggressor, led to failing confidence inside Trivalvia of the NEA's effectiveness, and of MacKenzie's efforts at diplomacy. Exploiting this loss of confidence, Tony Harrington was able to force an election in early 2007, unseating MacKenzie and installing himself as the 2nd President of Trivalvia. Harrington's first act in office were to pull Trivalvia out of the NEA, a move that made many enemies of former ally nations.
The Green Revolution
MacKenzie was battered, but unbowed, and over time began to organize a grassroots effort to remove Harrington and attempt to restore some of the directives he had championed; namely, greater relations and involvement in world affairs, and a shift towards a greener economy and infrastructure. His efforts resulted in the formation of the Progressive Democratic Federal (PDF) party, and to force a vote of no confidence in the Harrington government. Harrington's response was to declare martial law. The resulting conflict over the next nine days, known now as the "Green Revolution" for the colours of the flags flown by the forces under MacKenzie's banner, would see the Trivalvian military broken and the economy hobbled, but it ultimately ended with Harrington's removal from office. MacKenzie served as interim leader until the election of July 15, 2009, where he was formally elected as Trivalvia's third president.
Rebuilding
Trivalvia is now working to rebuild after the damage, physical, economic, and moral, dealt to it by the Green Revolution.
