Finally, after some months of preparation, the strike fleet was on the move. It consisted of the INS Viraat, an old UK carrier turned Indian, two missiles destroyers, and two frigates. Along with the fleet, multiple transport and amphibious assault ships were brought along, to house and deploy the Field Army that was being taken with the fleet.
Their first stop would be Diego Garcia. A couple weeks earlier, the Island was settled by Indian contractors, and contracted to rebuild the abandoned airfield, and set up a naval refueling station on the Island. Ever since the atoll was abandoned, the Indian government had their eye on it. Now, they had the resources and opportunity to take the island, and they did.
Shortly after arriving in Diego Garcia, the strike fleet was on the move again, heading towards the Cape of Good Hope, where they would swing north on the other side of Africa.
It was still a tightly held secret as to where the forces were heading. Some sources leaked that is was a country on the northwestern part of Africa, but no one could say exactly where. Most of the sailors, and all of the soldiers didn’t even know their final destination. All they were told, that it was going to be short fighting, but long occupation.
