Vespeterium Minor

Seventeen Years Ago on the planet Arborius
Dr Sebastian Ranier knelt on the ground, sobbing. In his arms he held a woman, dead, the white of her wedding dress stained with her own blood. The formal dress that Ranier himself was wearing gave some hint at the ocassion, as did the splendour in which the hall was decked out, or at least had been before the massacre. Laura Verity, the would-be bride, was not the only casualty of that fateful day. Hundreds lay dead or dying and the marble floor was stained with blood. Yet more sobbed or stood in shock as Ranier did now.
He had known Laura Verity for some twenty two years and had taken her three previous refusals to marriage in his stride. He also knew of her secret life. She was, like 25% of humans on Arborius, a member of the resistance.
Since the first records of time began, things had always been the same. The ruthless, intelligent and powerful Arborians had been the masters while the humans remained the slaves. The spider like Arborians had taken this for granted for so long that they reacted with genuine surprise when the humans began to fight back. The assasianation of the Last Emperor Quaran Beck two hundred years ago had signalled the start of the campaign. Surprise soon turned to anger as the masters came down hard on their rebellious slaves. Rebellion was crushed and dissention punished. But the humans reamined bitter.
Then came the events of thirty years ago. It was at this time that the tyrannical Paulo Vespeterium came to power as Lord Chancellor of the Arborian people. This lunatic pushed the Arborians into a series of wars with great powers, thus bringing them to edge of destruction. But a few months ago, Laura had spoken of a weapon being developed by Paulo' scientists, one so powerful that it could bring all of his enemies to their knees. And then came wedding day massacre, Arborian troops stormed the place and killed everybody that they accused of 'treason.'
This brought Ranier to his present state. His eyes, while filled with tears, bore the hatred of a fallen man. Taking one last look at the lifeless face of his beloved, he set her down and stood. As he looked around the room he realised, the Arborians were right..... humans were weak. The Arborians never cried, never wept for their departed, and never let felt the unbearable pain that Ranier felt for Laura. The pain of humanity held them back from their true destiny. Slowly, he made his way toward the doors of the great church.
Present Day; above the wastelands of Arborius
Sebastian Ranier stood gazing striaght ahead. The ship that he was in glided smoothly over the wastes of what had once been the great city of Vespeterium Minor. It was approaching a place that he had not seen for seventeen years; the Church of San Morello. Before, the thought of that place had brought Ranier unbearable pain, but now he stood unaffected.
The door behind him opened and in marched three 'people'. The sun from above glinted of their dull grey 'skin' as the ship passed between the great clouds above. These were Cyverons.
'We have detected the area of interest' stated one in monotone.
'Very good' replied Ranier in a similar, but not identical, voice.
The three Cyverons ahead of him were sealed from head to toe in a steel armour. They would remain so for as long as they kept functioning which would be, barring a fatal casualty, forever. Upon what had been their faces in their lives as humans, frozen expressions had been carved. The eyes were black and empty, the nose all but hidden, and the mouth curved in a vicious and twisted smile.
Ranier turned to his fellow Cyverons. 'We shall end our fight with those who oppose liberation soon.'
Ranier, or Cyveron 1.0 as he was now, had alone retained elements of his former human self. He remembered pain, even if he could not feel it now. He remembered weakness, he remembered love, and he remembered Laura. He had been the first of his kind and was thus unique, a true leader amongst the Cyverons.
On the ground, the Cyverons searched and searched. Ranier stood and awaited news. Finally, a Cyveron spoke to him from the uplink.
'We have found the remians of Laura Verity.' it informed him.
'Very good.' answered Cyveron 1.0. 'Bring her to the ship.'
Once aboard, Ranier looked down upon the ashes of the one he had once loved.
'Emotions are weakness.' he stated certainly. 'Emotions are pain.'
He watched cautiously as the Cyverons scanned over the ashes for around eight hours before turning to him.
'We have a reading' they stated together. 'Six moths prior to death, the subject was on the planet of Keri, a small planet on the outer edges of the former Arborian Empire. We have detected her DNA in this vicinity.'
1.0 nodded. 'Very good.' he stated. 'We must go to Keri for our search.'
The Arborians had been swept away; wiped out, three years ago in his Cyber Revolution, but the remnants of their society had not. If the fabled weapon still existed on this planet, the Cyverons would find it. And with it, the whole Universe would all to their liberation.
'We will bring peace, we will bring liberation.' stated Cyveron 1.0 as the ship departed from Arborius.
