The Imperial Navy has decided that its Ryuho and Sabre class ships have seen their finest days. In line with the submarine force modernization, both the Ryuho class BCGN and Sabre class DDKN are to be replaced with newer hulls that will better serve the fleet. The Tenchu class will take six years per ship to build and be built in two 108-ship blocks at a cost of 702 billion USD per block. The Morningstar class will take four years to build per ship and will be built in four 162-ship blocks at a cost of 648 billion USD per block. Construction will begin when the new submarines complete.

Armament:
6 x 10"/60 ETC (Triple Mounts)
8 x 144-Cell Mk72 Strategic Single-Load VLS
2 x 4-cell Mk72 Tactical Single-Load VLS
4 x Oto Melara 76mm/62 Super Rapid ETCs (Dual Mounts)
7 x 25mm BI M/C Cannons
8 x Mk45 CAMDS
4 x Machine Gun Mount
6 x 660mm Torpedo Catapults (24 Torpedoes and 80 depth charges/mines)
6 x 50mm Underwater Supercav Railgun

Armour: 300mm multilayered titanium/vandium/aluminum and ballistic ceramics; interlaced with sensor pads, cooling detergent, and mounted on a honeycomb frame

Design Notes: The Tenchu ("wrath of heaven") class continues the Imperial Navy's tradition of giving battlecruiser classes Japanese names. While the number and type of VLS remains the same, the new 10" guns are a definate improvement over the old 8" weapons of the Ryuho class. Unfortunately a compromise was necessary to keep two turrets and make space for the rear two missile blocks, so the helo hangar and pad were deleted in favor of placing the X turret in that space; it was also necessary to delete two 76mm turrets in favor of the aforementioned missile blocks. An advantage of the new configuration is that the Tenchu class is not as vulnerable to a chain reaction, although the tight configuration of the missiles means that some danger remains. As the ship uses the exact same hull as the Imperial Navy's cruisers, development costs were cut by a large amount and the entire design amounts to a reorganization of the weapons.

4 x Mk2 12-Cell Unguided ASW Mortars
Armour: 200mm multilayered titanium/vandium/aluminum and ballistic ceramics; interlaced with sensor pads, cooling detergent, and mounted on a honeycomb frame

Design Notes: Like the Osiris class DDGNs, the new Morningstar class DDKNs (named after the most decorated of the Sabre class DDKNs) are a modification of the venerable Minotaur class DDANs. It was decided to go with the slower ship because the Sabre's speed has largely gone unused and the draft of the fastship hull is prohibitive in littoral waters. The primary modification is in the missiles, where all the 72 cell tactical dual-length VLS blocks are replaced by 144 cell strategic dual-length VLS blocks. Like on the Osiris class the outboard cannon mounts are deleted in favor the larger missile capacity and the two superstructure tactical VLS blocks are replaced by a single strategic block. This is all to make room for large vertical launch anti-submarine rockets that would be needed to boost torpedoes as large as 660mm.

[OOC: Is this the battlecruiser on this thread the one that you hinted to on my requested Ingerier-class BCN by The Macabees, the very same joint battlecruiser design between FDI and Scandavian States? Or is the Tenchu-class an entirely indigenous design?]

[The Ryuho? Or you mean the one that Free and I hashed out but has so far not been designed? At any rate, the Tenchu is neither.]

[OOC: Roger that SS. And out of curiousity, you got any images for these new surface ships of yours?]

[No. Like it says, they're modifications of existing hulls, so just take a look at the Berlin and Centaur-X and use your imagination.]
