Trivalvian IT company Intelligent Defense, Inc has unveiled their first contracted project for the Trivalvian Ground Armoured Forces: the Portable Command Station.
The PCS is a networked tablet computer with a hardened case, 15" full colour screen, and 64-bit processor, that is designed to be either carried in the hand, or fitted inside any vehicle. It's dedicated operating system is designed to organize and display communications from headquarters, maps and current tactical data, either entered manually or relayed via secure wireless network, with both "top-down" (unit communicates only with immediate HQ) and "full network" (unit communicates with fellow unit PCS and with immediate HQ) options. Fingerprint ID allows access for a unit's CO or second in command, and a new "Deadman" component (with heart-monitors for both commanding officers), provides extra security to insure that the contents of a PCS do not fall into enemy hands. Should both commanding officers be killed within a one hour space and no new CO assigned within five hours, or on command from either CO, the PCS destroys all data and physically damages its hard drive to prevent data recovery.
Unit cost has been stated at $12,000 for domestic purchases ($14,000 for PCS equipped with secure wireless links). ID Inc has not mentioned whether they would offer the unit for export. The Trivalvian Ground Armed Forces is equipping all rifle platoons with PCS.
