IC:

Atolia has a very short history. The nation or better known colony of Atolia quickly declared independence around about 40 years ago and was quickly invaded by its closest neighbors, the nations of Lroon and (Armekh nation) and was quickly split between the two nations and divided along a common border that was agreed to by both nations. The Colony of Atolia has very extreme civil rights in both areas, to show the population of Atolia that it is wise to remain part of the two territories.

However the Atolian population is younger now and the people alive during the invasion are now long dead mostly and the younger generations after hearing about the independent Atolia believe it should be independent again. However, the resulting violence that may occur if their demands are not met politically may be a foreign source of friction between the nations of Lroon and Armekh nation who may want to take all of the territory.

The political groups that are fighting for independence:

Young Atolians for Independence: Is an organization of young teenagers and middle-20s who do protests and sit ins around government buildings and other organizations. Their leader is unknown to most lower-level people in the organization.

Atolian Party: A democratic party in the Atolian assembly that supports independence. They are against violence but they are against Lroon and Armekh violence.

Violent Groups:

Socialist Atolians: A violent group that is prepared to attack Lroon and Armekh targets.

Youth Atolian Shock Troops: Young Atolians who are prepared to attack to both governments.

Atolian National Army: A large group of Atolians who are prepared to wage war against two governments.

Atolian Front: A terrorist group that is prepared to Lroon and Armekh government and supporters. The Atolian Front will be able to attack both groups in their home nations or homelands.

The two main components of control on Atolia is Lroon and Armekh Nation but there are several other nations that control several sections of Atolia, Malkyer, Griffshein, 31337 Soup, and finally the Scandanavians also hold several small sections of Atolia and may influence the conflict that seems to be heading in this small colony.

El Norra Naval Base, Fairfax Enclave, Atolia
A light rain fell over the coast of Atolia, and was enough to make those soldiers of the Royal Marine 155th Regiment on guard duty uncomfortably damp. Gray skies darkened the landscape of the border zone between the Atolian colony and the small enclave controlled by the Imperial Commonwealth. A chain-link fence ran the entire border of the enclave, marking the demarcation between the stable and prosperous Malkyeri enclave and the colony proper, a land slowing tearing itself apart through political strife. Sandbag machine-gun emplacements had been erected around the main land entrance to the colony. A lone paved road came to a gate in the fence, manned by a guardhouse and a squad of Royal Marines. Rough lean-tos had been erected over the sandbags to keep the weapons and guards dry, but it was clear that the soldiers manning the guns took their jobs very seriously.

Atolia was a nation long dominated by foreign powers; it had declared independence not a lifetime ago, and had been subsequently devoured by its neighbors. The young population was restless and resentful the occupation of their soil by foreign nations, understandably so, and it was clear to any who paid attention that Atolia was headed for, at the very least, long-term rebellion, if not open warfare.

To that end, the Imperial Commonwealth had taken pains to secure their enclave, covering roughly twenty square kilometers, and containing the El Norra Naval Base and the small town of Fairfax, population 21,000. A full expeditionary force of the Royal Navy High Seas Fleet lay in anchor at the El Norra docks, or on patrol in the nearby waters. The 155th camped just outside of town, at the newly-established Fort Rawson. The regiment and naval group were more than enough to insure the safety of the enclave, but the Imperial Commonwealth had yet to let any territory of its fall to foreign hands, and the Crown saw no reason to change this tradition. The Imperial flag, on sunny days, flew defiantly from the roof of Government House at the main square of Fairfax.

The Charter-Class guided-missile battleship HMS Centurion remained offshore, in the full view of the colony proper. The battleship's six 508mm ETC guns and six 324mm broadside guns were able to inflict massive punishment on any enemy, and along with the rest of the Centurion's armament and the other ships of the 2EFG, the Royal Armed Forces at Fairfax had more firepower than some small countries.

The town had roughly 5,000 Malkyeri citizens living within its limits, with the remainder of the population being native Atolians, some of whom were applying for Malkyeri citizenship, and others content to live with their status as Imperial Protected Persons. The town was along the coast, and several kilometers of pasture and meadow separated it from the border zone, which was growing steadily more fortified each day, as fears of a collapse in Atolia increased. Behind the chain fence was a narrow minefield, with signs warning of the danger and another chain fence, this one topped with razor wire, marked the end of the field. Several batteries of rockets at Fort Rawson were trained on the entrance and other approaches to the enclave. Any enemy would have a murderous time getting across the border zone.

The local Royal Intelligence Agency station, located in the basement of Government House, made full use of satellite photos and tapped internet data to locate concentrations of fielded rebel factions, and had extensive dossiers on the various Atolian factions. Two in particular, the Atolian Party and the Young Atolians for Independence, both relatively moderate and democratic groups, had caught the intention of the Crown...

Tensions continued to rise in Atolia proper. As the Malkyer Imperial commonwealth continued there defences in there little enclave of 20 kilometers tensions were high, especially in the Lroon and Amerkh nation areas.

In the capital of Atolia, Astounia, a population of roughly, 256,000 with lush grass lands and forests on the outskirts of the city and a wide river flowing through it, a demonstration of 200 young Atolians were going on in the Lroon held capital.

"Today our brothers and sisters of our former independent nation of Atolia is occupied by six different nations. Atolia was gobbled up by its much larger neighbors only 40 years, ago, and now it is controlled by these six nations in a variety of ways. Tensions are boiling to the top of all six occupied areas, even in the Imperial Commonwealth area. We believe that violence is not the option, but we also believe that these imperialist nations should leave Atolia for good."

The young Atolians cheered the speaker as they stood up and listened to several other leaders. In an open area they were not afraid of attack and they were unarmed, so if lroon units did attack, it would create a huge backlash.

Tacali City (Griffstein Area):

A young man in his early twenties looked at the Griffstein unit as he planted his device. It was a crude bomb, but with the unit about 2000 meters away once they passed by it would explode and damage hopefully some of the units. However, unknown to the bomber, if the bomb did go off, it would hardly cause too much damage.

The young man lit the fuse and took off, and as he ran around the corner and deeper into the degrading alleyways an explosion rocked the city.

OOC: Griffsheim?

IC: The city of Tacali was nothing stunning. It was just your average small city with a population of roughly 100,000 people running about, conducting their day to day lives.

The current Griffincrest administrator, Cornelius Reddagger, sat in his office, reading trough papers. The commander for the region, a Mandalorian from Ansuria by the name of Vakim Cassir Jantsk, stepped into the office. "Sir, we had some minor unrest today. The local police were having some problems, and the infantry from the 331st were called in to assist. Two men were killed."

"Damn rebels. Alright, I'll alert Mr. Griffincrest, thank you" Cornelius said. Vakim snapped a salute and exited the room.

"Well," said Mr. Groll, standing at the head of the square, "Do you have any idea what will happen if we leave now? No? I'll tell you. The other nations here, most notably Griffencrest, will fall upon you like a pack of wolves. This part of the nation, the scraps which they will fight over, will suffer the full devestation of war. What do you think of that?"

Sorry I am late.....

"If these Atolian groups want independence, they'll have to earn it.'' General D'Sarana

''Maybe Atolia will be the 2nd Tibet.'' A political commentator

The Armekh rule of Atolia was long but somewhat ok for some. The Armekh never took much pride in abandoning civil rights. Some Armekh leaders favoured keeping control and some favoured watching Lroon Atolian lands, in case they got a want to attack.

The Armekh Great Lord sent Viceroy Samus Aran to the Armekh Atolian lands to manage things. Samus had two daughters and a wife to take with him, which he did. They went to the capital of Armekh Atolia, Armanium. He was known for saying violence should be used in self defense, and he was known for hanging several murderers, as a ''sign to those who think they'll get away with it.''

Under the Aranian periods, Armekh Atolia seemed to be in peace, though protests could occassionally occur. An Atolian tutor was hired for Aran's two daughters and his wife enjoyed looking at the city from her balcony while having tea.

Now that patriotic, revolutionary groups were forming, Mr. Aran would have problems, possible ones, to deal with. Could he keep things in check?

The Imperial army had taken control of Atolia relatively recently was occupied, at least in the terms of the thousands of years of history of the Empire, had established a government that was time tested and efficient in the place of the displaced native government. To enforce their will they Empire had redesigned the colony into classes with the Valgardian nobility and Scandinvan colonists at the top to lead it economically, politically, and militarily with great force. As well, to enforce the will of the government 25,000 soldiers maintained Imperial law and will throughout the colony.

In the main colonial city of Novei Trit the Valgardian governor had established it a solely Valgardian and colonist city that was protected by a two entire legions where all the Valgardians and a majority of the colonists lived in a state of relative luxury due to the labors of the natives and the taxes they paid. As well, the governor had ordered a curfew of 10:30 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. for all natives. Further he had banned all now permitted mass gathering of natives without written permission from a Valgardian or colonial overseer.

"these 'Freedom' fighters are nothing more than terrorists, and they must be eradicated. Send a message to all the other powers in this region. We shall hold a meeting of all the rulers of Atolia. Also try to publicise a decoy meeting to try and trap some of the infedels." Senator Horace finished his small speach and dismissed the staff around him. "this shall be an interesting predicament."

Local news

"due to the recent explosion of terorist attacks in other Atolian area Senator Horace has declared marshal law. No Person is to be out after 6:30 pm and all schedualed gatherings are cancled. Any wishing to reapply for a gathering must agree to armed forces being there. All civilian police forces are to stand down as the Holy militia takes power. And now i must turn all broadcasts over to the GDA propoganda team."

''Samus Aran mobilized forces today, as a precaution of hearing tensions were flaring in Lroon Atolia and other areas. General D'Sarana, a veteran of the Armekh-Atolian War is leading one of the forces in Armekh Atolia. He is known for his stance that ''Atolia should earn its independence''.''

Also, Samus Aran has convened a council to discuss Armekh Atolian affairs and to discuss tensions and issues in Atolia in general.

In other news....''

Excerpt from a news broadcast.

General D'Sarana walked through the barracks, with his daughter and his brother, escorted by several guards. He was a veteran of the Armekh-Atolian War. The general's daughter was only 10+ but she was curious of things, and even got a chance to ride in a Paladin Tank. His brother, dressed in military uniform, was training for rising in the ranks.

They got to a military zone, where Atolian soldiers, hired in the service of the Viceroy, trained in shooting and such. His daughter was interested and wanted to fire a gun, and was allowed to. Her brother was a marksmen, highly trained, and could get all bullseyes.

D'Sarana saluted his compatriots and watched, pleased with the Atolians' performance. D'Sarana then watched as his brother went home, because he was getting married in coming days.

The others went to his office, and D'Sarana spent time with his daughter. His wife passed away in a car accident, so he wanted to protect his daughter and he loved and cared for her deeply.

Armekh Atolia was preparing itself for any influx of tensions, etc.

OOC: Think you said that enough;)

IC: Administrator Reddagger was not about to just sit by and allow these so called "freedom fighters" to run amuck in his territory. He tapped a button on his desk.

"Cindy, get me Commander Jantsk" he said into a small box on his desk.
"Right away Mr. Reddager" he secretary responded. He was soon speaking with the commander on the phone, trying to decide what to do. The commander decided it would be best to try and use violence for when they actually knew what was going on. For now, they would just intimidate.

Black GSF humvees were now driving all over Tacali. Citizens wondered what this was about, as Griffincrest forces were usually not just roaming the streets. What they were doing was putting up posters. The posters showed four men, nailed to crosses, in the middle of the ex-Kamashan city of Vik. Under the picture, it said "This is what happens to those who resist."

Outside the gates to the Administrative Palace, two Leopard II tanks were brought into position, machine gun nests were set up flanking the main gate, and guards were told to be constantly on the lookout should anything go down.

Commander Jantsk also wanted to make the Griffincrest presence known on the streets. Black clad mercenaries were now going on ride alongs with the Tacali police force, and could be seen standing around outside of important buildings, such as banks, libraries, museums, and the like.

Cornelius then sat at his desk and took out an expensive cigar. Leaning back on his leather chair he said aloud to himself "Why here, others are far worse" then took a long puff of the tobacco and let a perfect ring of smoke float into the fan above him.

OOC: Hey there, all. I originally submitted the character of Commander Jantsk in Blackhelm's mercenary recruitment thread, and he has agreed that I can control Jantsk and the 331st Rgmt during this rp.

Blackhelm, seeing as you've only recently posted with the 331st, I'll wait until the next opportunity comes around before taking command.
