Changing Seasons (OOC Thread; Fantasy/PT Character based War RP)

Aztiluth

I. Purpose

I've been reading through some factbooks recently, and I've found that some have parts regarding the formation of their nation/planet. I too would like to have some interesting background information like this in my factbook. With this said, I want to do this a little bit differently. Rather than just randomly typing out of how Aztiluth came to be, I want to actually have it RPed out.

As you can probably tell from the title, this RP will involve fantasy/ past tech. But rather than having each player control an entire faction or nation, each player will instead control one to two characters. The format for characters will be described in detail below.

While I will retain overall control of this thread, the outcome of this RP is by now means set in stone. What I intend to do, once this thread is complete, is to add a summarized version of the thread to my factbook. Also, all characters who participate will be noted as well in the factbook and will be considered historical figures of Aztiluth.

II. Synopsis

It is the year 735 ES(Eternal Sphere). The whispers of war are rampant, traveling by word of mouth, crisscrossing both the continents of Gaitt and Greeton. Rumors are in abundance. Stirrings in both the Technological Superpower of Greeton and the Military Superpower of Airyglyph has in turn led to the military buildup in the Sacred Kingdom of Aquaria and the other nations that lie between Airyglyph and Aquaria. All but the dumbest realize that war is just around the corner and are scrambling to find shelter.

All that is needed now is a change in the winds of fate and war will begin....

III. Nations

Here is a map of the nations (http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j225/Seidou/map2.jpg). Black dots represent the location of each nation's capital.

Below are the names of the various nations of the continents of Gaitt and Greeton along with brief descriptions.

Airyglyph, Military Superpower- A military nation ruling the mountainous northern regions of the continent of Gaitt. Seeking to establish a unified rule over the entire continent, the prowess of its three armies strikes fear into the hearts of those living in neighboring lands. These three armies include a cavalry brigade (the Storm Brigade), heavy cavalry (the Black Brigade), and an air assault brigade (the Dragon Brigade). The captial of the nation is Airyglyph Castle.

Greeton, Technological Superpower- Located on the continent of Greeton on Elicoor II, Greeton is well known for its technological sophistication. A portion of the population of Greeton is comprised of humanoids known as the Crafters, and is rumored to possess a relatively high level of mechanical technology. However, details about Greeton are scarce as it closed itself off to outsiders centuries ago.Its specialties lie in its powerful mechanized armies. The capital of the nation is Lesonia.

Sacred Kingdom of Aquaria- A theocratic kingdom located on the continent of Gaitt, the Kingdom of Aquaria refers to itself as a "Sacred Kingdom".The Church of Light, which has many followers throughout the continent, was born in this kingdom. Ever since the Torastic Religious War that occurred seven hundred years ago, an unbroken line of royalty dating back to the age of this kingdom's predecessor, the Sacred Kingdom of Aquor, has ruled the land. Perhaps due to the recent incursions of the Kingdom of Airyglyph, the current ruler of this country, Aquaria XXVII, is allocating a tremendous amount of resources to research into runology. It is renowned for its runologists and spies/assassins. The capital of the nation is the city of Aquios.

Sanmite Republic- This nation is located primarily in the desert. The population consists mostly of humanoid nomads along with some urban dwellers. Its military is considered rather weak, but is renowned for its warriors' ferocity in combat. The capital of this nation is Mosel.

Nation of Barr- This nation is located in the mountain range known as the Barr Mountains. As such, the nation is forced to import nearly all of its food supply, but makes up for this weakness with its enormous mineral veins. This unfortunately has led Airyglyph to greatly desire its lands. Barr's military is special in that it is the only milittary other than Airyglyph's on the continent of Gaitt that employs dragon-mounted warriors. With that said, their military is nonetheless small, but highly trained. Its capital is the city of Traum.

Nation of Durna- Durna is a nation of extremely fertile soil and mineral deposits. This, sadly, has drawn the attention of all its neighbors. Because of this, all citzens of the nation must serve in the military for at least 5 years and can be recalled in case of war. This nation is renowned for its cavalry forces, which is only second to Airyglyph's.

Palmira Republic- The Palmira Republic is large nation that has very fertile land. Its primary industry is agriculture. Despite its proximity to Airyglyph, Palmira has a small standing army. Alongsided this small standing army is a sort of "national guard." Even with both these armed forces, they total to less than a third of Airyglyph's forces. With this said, Palmira is renowned for its expert archers, on whom the nation heavily relies. The captial is the city of Expedis.

Dominion of Suferio- This large nation is primarily desert with occasional areas of fertile land. Like the Sanmite Republic, Suferio's population is a combination of nomads and city dwellers. The military itself is of respectable size, relying on the desert and the skill of its assassins, whom are less skilled than those of Aquaria and Kaddan.

Sacred Lands of Kaddan- Kaddan is a small theocratic nation located east of Aquaria. This small nation is unusually fortunate in that it is situated in an area of incredibly fertile soil and rich mineral deposits. Kaddan was known for its inhabitants dedication to the Light. The nation has been isolated from the outside world for 300 years now with no trade going in or out of the nation. When its military was last seen, it was considered the most powerful out of all the continent's armies, despite its small size. Its forces were last known to consist of four branches: "The Divine Order", "The Holy Order", "The Blessed Order", and "The Sacred Order." The first two were renowned for its mighty knights and swordsmen, while the third for its wise and powerful mages and priests; however, the last order is greatly different from the first three. The Sacred Order is by far the smallest branch of the Kaddan military, but is the strongest, acting where the other three could not (ie. spying, assassination, etc.). The capital is the city of Arkives.

It seems I get the pick of the litter if I'm allowed to join. I've left the race blank in case there were more than just humans to choose from.

Name: Beleg
Age: 26
Race:
Birthplace: Palmira Republic
Archetype: Archer and/or Ranger
Physical Description: Blue eyes with brown hair just reaching his shoulders.

Hieght is about 6'3" with a muscular build that comes from years in the military.

Equipment: Heavy Longbow, large quiver, survival kit, and short sword.

Skills: Beleg is a survivor and can live off the land fairly easily knowing what's acceptable to eat out in the wild and what can have a man gripping his stomach for a week. His skills also range to be a topnotch archer as well as having some skills with the sword.

Relations: Beleg is relatively unimportant person as he was not born from any noble or someone greatly renowned. His distinguishment comes from his prowess on the battlefield and his ability to command a small number of men.

Bio: Beleg was the son of a farmer that owned land near the border of Durna. When he was sixteen, he decided to join the Republic's military where he was first tested in archery skills and melee. From growing up on the frontier, he had aquired decent skills with the bow for hunting and was moved to archer batallions. However, he had shown promise with the sword and had never given up practicing. It wasn't until he had killed his first human being that he aquired a sword of his own. Prying the hilt of the sword from the cold dead hands and removing the sheath from the slain's waist, Beleg strapped the sword around and has carried it ever since. Some have even followed suit since being an archer does not exempt one from close attack. A sword is something that an archer can reach for to ward off attacks until the professionals arrive to assist. As time went by he had gained more favor with the government and the men around him. For a promotion gift, he was given a unique bow that was stronger and heavier than most conscripts carried or even could use. The bow carried greater accuracy and strength for the archer and carrying it around has lent to an increase in Beleg's muscle mass not to mention his deadly accuracy.

I hope this is good enough.

Approved! As for the race section, you can choose from any of the various common fantasy races (ie. any variant of elves, humans, half-elves, dwarves, orcs, etc.). Also, I'm including some other races below just to add some variety.

VI. Additional Races

These races may be chosen if you find the other common races unsuitable.

Klausian- Klausians have a body superior to those of humans. For example,
their athletic prowess and eye sight are far better. Males are
marked by three green lines on their necks.

Menodix- Humanoid lifeforms that seems to have evolved from raccoons,
having large furry ears and bushy tails. Menodix usually have a very
short temper and are great treasure hunters, making them seem
miserly or annoying. They primarily live in the Sanmite Republic.

Crafters-A race of humanoids that is physically frailer than humans, but has
an affinity for runology. To make up for their frail frames, Crafters
are highly dexterous and skilled in anything involving engineering or
technology. Almost all Crafters are born or live in the Technological
Superpower of Greeton.

Well, that's all I can think of at the moment. Please feel free to suggest other races.

Now sign up people! ^_^

Cool. I will work on a character. Is Dragon Rider an Archetype?
Aztiluth
07-09-2006, 21:34
Dragon rider isn't really an archetype. If you wanted to have one, you would simply need to be a soldier/swordsman/knight in either Barr's military or Airyglyph's Dragon Brigade. I'll be waiting for your character.

Name: Jitar, known as "The Blacksword" or "Crazy-Jit" among his fellow bandits.

Age: 32

Race: Human

Birthplace: Unknown.

Archetype: Sword for Hire, when not hired a rogue/bandit.

Physical Description: 175cm tall, strong and wiry. Adequate muscle power, extremely good stamina. Messy, shoulder-long black hair and beard. Several scars cross the face, dozens in his arms and around the whole body.

Equipment: A straight, expencive, beautiful and exceptionally well made longsword, couple of daggers and a few knives, short composite bow. Steel-strenthened leather armour, rather shabby and worn-out clothes, with the exception of very high quality boots. A decent horse.

Skills: Unique swordsman, combining several styles (will be explained later) of different schools of the swordmanship. Good runner, swimmer, rider and a decent bowman, even though he uses that weapon only when he's really forced to do so. Experienced climber (of both trees and mountains, as well as walls).

Relations: Lives as a member of the Forest's Brotherhood, =with a group of greedy and bloodthirsty criminals.

Bio: Jitar does not remember where exactly was he born, or who were his parents. He was saved by a wandering knight, near the border of Kaddan. This knight - a member of The Holy Order - noticed the fire in the eyes of this 7-y-old little thief who knew not where he came from or what was he doing in that god-forsaken village. Jitar was taken to Andim's (that was the name of the old knight) house and protection, as his student and apprentice.
Jitar was quick to learn, when it came to the way of the warrior, but meditation, preaching and praying clearly weren't for him. Other soon-to-be knights of the noble were against him from the very beginning, and he had to fight to survive.
When he was 16, it became unbearable. He left the place. Andim, his only connection to this land and "home" had died a year ago, so he really had little reason to stay. All the yabble about God(s), faith and loyalty had went straight out through his left ear after coming in through the right one. He packed what little he had to pack, and left.
He travelled around the continent, serving as a mercenenary and a bodyguard, joined the army of Barr and served for couple of years but was forced to leave after killing his Captain in a barfight. He went to Durna, managing to get into its famous cavalry despite the fact he wasn't a spectacular horseman - it was his incredible sword handling that got him in. He spent one year in there, becoming a better horseman, but grew tired and in search for a real army, travelled (like previous times, he left without saying a word to anyone) to the land of Airyglyph and joined the Storm Brigade. Aiyglyphians were (and are) always short of skilled and experienced soldiers. It was cool at first, but after three years there Jitar's anarchist individualism crossed blades with the army discipline. He stabbed a fellow officer in the face.
Got captured and lashed.
Escaped the dungeon before getting executed.
Stole a horse and a sword, killed several poor bastards on his way out of the country.

Now he's a free man again. Just without an idea of what to do.

I must say that you can't rp as a general, but you can rp as someone of a lower rank like a captain or something along those lines. As for primitive firearms, they are allowed, but are restricted to only the Technological Superpower of Greeton.

OOC: Boredom struck me down and I had to do this.

Name: Iosea "The Fencer"
Age: 43
Race: Half-Elf
Birthplace: Mosel, Samnite Republic
Archetype: Swordsman

Physical Description: Stands around 5'11" with a smaller build. His body is more lean then most other swordsmen, because he trains to be fast where as others tain to be strong and powerful. He has a small mop of Golden Blonde hair and has a naturally pointy ears from his Elven Heritage. Many mistake him for full elven when in fact he is Half-Elven, it just that he works hard to remove those features which mark him as Half-Elven.

Equipment: Light Studded Leather Armor, A Rapier, A Hunting Knife, Rations, Medical Kit, and a Bedroll

Skills: Very Efficient Swordsman, using Fencing and other stabbing styles to quickly eliminate any opposistion. Natural Tracker, can track almost any animal. Adept at minor Healing.

Relations: Samnite Republic. Part of the Samnite Republic's Desert Fox Unit. A Unit made up of Elite warrios and trackers. Renowned for living in harsh conditions and tenacity in combat.

Bio: Born to a Human Father and a Elven Mother, Iosea hated his father for being Human. It made him different then the other children. He was mocked almost constantly for his mixed heritage. He went into an early depression around the age of 14 and nearly killed himself, that is if it wasn't for the help of kind Soldier from the Military. The soldier was half-elven like him. The Soldier told him one day he would have to act like a man, and defend himself and his heritage. Even if it was one he didn't want. Iosea took these words to heart and began to defend himself against the mockers. He then pushed himself to train. It was at the age of 21 that he joined the Military and began his career. Throughout most of it, he showed cunning and prowess unlike almost any other with a Rapier. Soon, he was given the nickname "The Fencer" since his style wasn't unlike that of a fencer. With that nickname and a few new tricks he was reassigned to the Desert Fox Unit, a Unit of Elite Combat Warriors/Trackers. He was there first Half-Elven Member.

Name: Mina "The Lotus" Aiko

Age: Klausian

Race: 23

Birthplace: Airyglyph

Archetype: Swordswoman and Dragon Rider

Physical Description: 5'4" - 125 lbs, (Picture (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/DMG2005/MinaAiko.jpg))

Equipment: Dresses in a style all her own. Mina uses a finely crafted sword (specifically for her) as well as various throwing blades. She also has twin daggers hidden in her greaves.

Skills: She is a master swordswoman and skilled with various blades (all benefited by her Klausian heritage and race). As a dragon rider, she is above average but nothing special.

Relations: Serves in the Dragon Brigade of Airyglyph

Bio: Mina was always fascinated by blades as a girl. Her mother was a chef... maybe a cook... and often brought her young daughter to work with her for fear of leaving her alone. While waiting around the kitchens as her mother prepared meals, Mina watched her deal expertly with different kitchen knives and blades. One day she decided to experiment and stole one away when nobody was looking... and the rest is history.

She wasn't at all interested in serving in the powerful military of Airyglyph, but in the end, she had no other choice. Not skilled in terribly much else besides the art of a blade (in which she was a master by sixteen of her own accord), Mina could not hold a steady job to provide for herself, let alone a family she was expected to have in the future. She finally joined the Dragon Brigade of the military and has served in it for the last five years.

Notes: I hope this is fine. I assumed that women were able to serve in the military. If there are any problems or questions, do let me know (I was writing this when I was very tired at three in the morning).

Air Dragon (Dragon Species)
A type of dragon that has extremely large wings and a body size more compact than that of other dragons. This allows them to soar through the skies faster than any other dragon.Air Dragons have a relatively short lifespan for a dragon race, and mostly live only two to three centuries, although some rare individuals have been known to live for almost 1000 years.

Name: Cap. Coravel Lydre "The Wolf"

Age: 17

Race: Human

Birthplace: Lesonia, Greeton

Archetype: Soldier

Physical Description: Tall at two inches over six feet, and muscular without being bulky. He is in supreme physical shape for a human, while he can't go one on one with a Klausian, (who can?) he still has a layer of hard muscle. His hair is a dark brown and black mixture, cut raggedly and kept out of his eyes by a dark green headband. His most macabre features are a pair of facial scars, one running horizontal along his left jawline, the other vertically from where neck meets shoulder to temple on his right. His most unique physical attributes however, are his eyes. The left is gray like cold steel, the right is a bright, Imperial turbolaser green. He wears a nonstandard uniform in shades of green and brown.

Equipment: Leather armor, musket, ammunition and powder, multiple daggers, raincloak, hat and/or helmet, sword, and a soldier's pack containing bedroll pup-tent, rations, badages, and other odds and ends.

Skills: Marksmanship, field medicine, fishing, juggling, swiming, limited tracking, foraging, and stealth, knowledge in tactics and warfare. Ability to play the harmonica and sub-par swordsmanship.

Relations: Is a Marine captain in the service of Greeton.

Bio: Born of middle class parents, Coravel followed in the footsteps of his father, who had himself been a soldier. Quickly showing his ability to adapt and lead, he was given a commission and rose to the rank of captain. As a marine of Greeton, he recieved training in using the musket, a weapon that gave the ability to strike beyond range of conventional ranged attackers. All marines were taught rudimentary first aid and survival skills. As an officer, he also recived schooling in tactics and strategy. The general view is that officers lead from behind, and as such, his training in swordsmanship was negligible. But, for hs intelligence and tenacity, he gained the moniker of "The Wolf". He is currently stationed in Lesonia.

How's that? If you don't like it, I can change it.

Ah sorry about the previous IC post. I was writing up late at night and didn't have time to write up the next part. My next post should help greatly.

As for the dragon brigade, they have a variety of duties (ie. patrolling the mountain ranges where cavalry and infantry have a hard time patrolling and occassionally taking out anyone who might pose a threat to Airyglyph.

Posted! Oh btw, Madnestan, since you can have Jitar where ever you decide to place him, I leave it to you to decide with whom you're going to interact with right now.

EDIT: I'll be out for dinner for a few hours, but I'll post more when I get back.

Are dragons in this world intelligent?

Good question, though it depends by what you mean intelligent. Intelligent as in what we think of humans (and in fantasy, elves, dwarves, etc.) or intelligent as in they are smart creatures (maybe like a fox or something).

My guess is the latter.
Granate
10-09-2006, 19:51
As would I. They are probably smarter then most animals, but not as smart as humans.

Madnestan: We are south of Mosel, whereas the Samnite and Airglyph borders are quite a ways away from where we are. I would doubt you would be able to reach us in a matter of moments.

Are dragons in this world intelligent?

A good question that I should have remembered to answer previously. As there are different types of dragons in the world, it is reasonable to say that they have different ranges of intelligence. I'll group them into four general races from most intelligent to least: Great Dragons, Air Dragons, Winged Dragons, and lesser Dragons.

Great Dragons are what people, who have played D&D, would recognize. They're far larger and physically stronger than any other dragons. Not only that, they alone of the dragon races are able to use magic/symbology along with their breath weapon. In addition, their intellegence ranges from being equal with that of humans (note: When I mean equal to that of humans, I meant humans as in the average human person and not some random drunk or the village idiot ;) ) to being even smarter than humans. The latter is possible because of their long life span.

Next in the hiearchy are the Air Dragons. A type of dragon that has extremely large wings and a body size more compact than that of other dragons. This allows them to soar through the skies faster than any other dragon on Aztiluth. Air Dragons have a relatively short lifespan for a dragon race, and
mostly live only two to three centuries, although some rare individuals have been known to live for almost 1000 years. An Air Dragon's intelligence various from dragon to dragon as it is with all other dragons. On the whole, Air Dragons tend to be just more intelligent than most animals, but there are exceptions in which some have been found to be just as intelligent as humans.

Winged dragon is a general term that refers to any type of dragon with wings that can fly. On Aztiluth, this term is mainly used to refer to the world's wild dragons. Usually, all flying dragons are referred to as winged dragons, but in the Kingdom of Airyglyph, a distinction is made between the vitally important air dragons and other flying dragons. Therefore air dragons are not referred to as winged dragons in this kingdom. Winged Dragons intelligence as is the case with other dragons tends to vary from dragon, but on the whole, a Winged Dragon is generally smarter than most animals.

Lesser Dragons are basically dragons that are no bigger than most humans. While they do have wings, most cannot use them to fly for extended periods of time. Generally, the wings are only used to gain an advantage when hunting prey or fighting. Also, Lesser Dragons tend to be no smarter than the average predator.

Name: Tayr Salura

Age: 21

Race: Human

Birthplace: Barr

Archetype: Knight

Physical Description: In good shape, but still rather slender. Not very large, but quite tall.

Equipment: Longsword, knife, chainmail, breastplate.

Skills: Excellent rider, be it dragon, horse, or some strange animal. Very good swordsman as well. Well trained at fighting on dragon back, he has almost perfected the “

Relations: A low ranked soldier in one of Barr’s dragonback units, Tayr has no relations to speak of. His father is the lord of a small village near Barr’s border with Airyglyph.
His only other relation to speak of is his dragon, Sorud, an intelligent Air Dragon, about as smart as a dumb human. However, he is learning, and his main impediment is only his lack of understanding of humans. He is a genius in combat however, and his and Tayr’s mutual understanding in combat, knowing the other perfectly, is part of the reason Tayr is often chosen for more dangerous flights into other territory, or right on the borders.

Bio: Tayr, often seeing dragons and their riders fly by on patrols, or even meet with his father to inquire the state of things on the border, soon decided he wanted to be one. He spent most of his adolescence training, and joined the army when he was 19. He spent a year with the army, and then he was approved for the small horse cavalry unit maintained by Barr, mostly too train young dragon riders. When he turned twenty he met his dragon, Sorud. He has spent the past year training and going on missions with Sorud, and they arte great friends, Tayr always patient with Sorud when he is teaching him something, Sorud always eager, if sometimes distracted.

Who is Lysander's sister and what is her connection to Coravel?
Aztiluth
13-09-2006, 07:33
I'll provide more specific information of the npcs later when I can construct a proper list. But for now, Lysander's sister is a 15 year old Crafter who is currently enrolled in Greeton's Military Academey. As it is with most girls her age, she has weak spot for well-muscled guys and upon seeing Coravel one time, she developed a small crush.

I hope the above is okay with you Arcadeos. If not, please tell me and I'll be happy to change it.

EDIT: Oh btw Arcadeos, I'll post more about the mission later in the morning. It's rather late right now and I'm tired.

Granate, if "the man they had picked up yesterday" is Jitar, as I assume you mean it to be, I suggest that you re-write the part in which you(r fellow)
1.determined how long my character sleeps,
2.approached him to the kicking distance without him waking up,
3.said something after kicking him without getting a dagger through his foot/throat,
4.walked away without fighting him.

He's not that kind of a dude who gets kicked without killing the person that has done so. Or even gets kicked around that easily.

If I somehow misunderstood and it isn't Jitar you spoke about, then just ignore this. :)
