And then there were none [MT, open]

OOC: This RP is about a highly virulent virus that escapes from a bioresearch facility. This will cause massive casualties amongst the phoenixius population, and can spread rapidly to other nations. This is the open part of the RP - you can either RP the spread of the virus in your own nations or send help. Either way, past RP's I have joined died out in a matter of days/weeks, and those I started didn't last that long. Hence this is mainly an RP for my nation. Enjoy.

Miertech Bioweapon Research Facility

"Hey Jeff, hows your research going?" A rough looking scientist asks of a dishevelled scientist.

"Not too bad. We finally have found a compound that will protect the virus from detection. Soon we will have a viable form that will survive for set periods of time." The scientists continued walking down the clinically white corridor, towards the habitat area of the facility. "Hmm, how would lunch sound to you? I'm feeling peckish."

"Sure, I haven't had anything since breakfast, and even then it was only a slice of toast."

The two men turned left at the next junction, and in a few minutes were standing in the line at the canteen. Today's food choices were just as bland and school-like as every other day, except they had some new dessert they hadn't seen before.

"Afternoon Janice, whats the new dessert over there?" The rough scientist asked of the server.

"Its Baked Alaska, Mike. The chef got himself some recipe books, and is trying out some of them. Doesn't taste too bad though."

The two men got their food and went to sit down. As they apporoached an empty table, Jeff suddenly dropped his tray on the floor, getting everyones attention. His hands were shaking violently.

"Jeff! Are you alright? You look kinda pale, and your eyes are all dark. Whats wrong?"

Jeff fell to his hands and knees, struggling to breathe. Everyone had gathered around, worried.

"Virus .... Form A ... Contagious ..." Jeff croaked, just before falling to the floor, dead.

"What the!? ACTIVATE THE QUARRANTINE PROCEDURE!" Mike shouted, and one of the other people ran to an otherwise inconspicuous button recessed into the wall. As soon as the button was pressed, warning lights came on all over the facility and alarms went off everywhere.

ALARM, ALARM. LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN INITIALISED. QUARRANTINE IS NOW IN EFFECT. ALARM, ALARM ...

One of the people in the cantine turned to Mike, obviously scared, "What the hell just happened? I've only been here a week. What did he say."

Mike turned to the unlucky new recruit, "This means that one of the items we are researching has broken loose. We are now shut off from the rest of the world. As for what he said, something about the virus he was working on - maybe the cause of this."

Within an hour, armed forces had put up a 5km quarrantine zone around the facility, and calls throughout the upper echelons of command were attempting to work out what had gone wrong. Another hour later and the cause was discovered - a minute leak in the containment vessel for the virus Jeff was working on. Early searching found reports on this particular viral strain and the outcome wasn't good: the virus stayed dormant, incubating in a mammal for around 10 days before becoming active. Within three days the subjects were dead. Initial signs were fever-like, and included pale skin and darkened eyes.

As personnel sweeps were conducted, there was only one person missing from the base - a scientist working with Jeff and had gone on holiday two days ago, well within the time fram to have contracted the virus from Jeff. His name was David Edwards, and he had gone to one of the more populous cities in the nation. Disaster, it seems, was about to strike at the heart of the nation.

The plane touched down at the airport, the wheels squeeling as they hit the tarmac. After the usual tedious post-flight checks the plane was unlocked, and the passengers were allowed to leave. David was seated in economy, prefering to save his money than spend it frivously on things like first class. He managed to get through security and baggage collection in record time, and was greeting his family outside the terminal in no time. He had been away for months, and had been looking forward to meeting his sister, and his parents.

"David! Over here! How are you brother? Your looking pale, not too sick for this evening I hope?" His sister questioned as she hugged him.

"No, its probably just the flight - you know what the food is like. ANyway, whats this evening then?"

"You don't know? Dad didn't tell you? We've got tickets to the concert tonight - you know those singers we loved when we were younger. I can't believe that he didn't tell you."

His sister hurried him over to their parents, where they greeted him and then they all walked over to the car, before putting his bags into the boot and driving off to their house. This was an hours drive from the airport, and was a lovely old building that was worth millions, and had been in the family for generations. It would soon be the epicenter for the spread of chaos and desperation over the next few months.

After 10 days had passed by since the outbreak, the government were not able to find the missing scientist - apparently he had gone on holiday with his family and they had gone on a camping trip and noone knew where they had gone. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of people got infected on the plane, the concert and various other places he visited. Attempts were being made to round the infectious up, but the sheer amount of people combined with the fact that they will infect others too, meant that they had a truly insurmountable problem. The only solution was to shut the area down and prevent others from leaving the area, but this was easier said than done - large tracts of forest and other natural obstacles lay on the boundary of the county, and many people were able to slip the net and go visit their relatives elsewhere.

Then it began. After all the confusion on the civilians behalf, they finally found out the reason as several people fell ill and died within a matter of days, and others were beginning to feel the same effects. Hospitals were getting clogged with victims of the virus, and other, more common problems such as broken bones etc.

"The People's Republic of Great Nari is sorry to hear about the outbreak in country, but is letting you know that their can not be any travel between our two nations until it is fixed. Wish we could help, sorry."

- President Amras Wallace
