Breaking News: Automagfreek aggressively pushes territorial boundaries

Following the outbreak of war against the Five Kingdoms, plans that were months in the making had been set into motion. Before sailing off to war and fighting the Ardan menace Damien had left explicit instruction as to what actions were to be taken and at what times. It was not too long after the last of the initial battlefleets left that the first order was put into effect.

The old 250 nautical mile boundary was deemed obsolete, and was ordered to expand to 500 nautical miles. This would be the new Freekish naval boundary, and would be a strict 'no sail, no fly' zone for all except Gholgoth residents. The vast new stretch of water would be heavily militarized with Crawlers, sonar installations, mine fields, and submarine patrols. It was decided that if Ardan forces ever tried to retalliate against the Empire itself they would be met with a gauntlet of resistance.

Deep water channels had also been constructed to allow Freekish ships a specific way to get to port, with dredging machines creating artificial sandbars along the more open eastern waters. This was also done in limited fashion in the south, since the terrain there is mostly inhospitable and unsuitable for even native populations that had tried to settle there, making it unfavorable as a landing zone. These sandbars were all strategically placed where the waters were already naturally shallow, but perhaps the most sinister defense was what was waiting beneath the sands. Methane pipes were put in place leading from the mainland, their routing snaking right underneath the deep water channels. These pipes were directly linked with a large pocket of natural gas on the east coast and contained many release valves, so in the event Ardan ships tried to pass through the channels, the valves could be opened. As a result, the methane release would cause the water to lose it bouyant properties, and the ships would simply crash to the bottom of the sea. With enough ships piling up the channel would then become impossible to navigate, an ingenious defense conceived from the first Coaltion War against Melkor, though Morgoth had used a large amount of crude oil on the surface to deter ships. But to the casual observer, the Freeks were merely drilling for oil in the open seas...a clever disguise that hid the true nature of the pipeline.

Hours after the order came down tribal fleets under the command of Count Anderton moved forward into the newly claimed territory, and began setting up shop. Frigates dropped the mighty Crawlers into the water, where they would sink to the bottom and lay in wait for enemy vessles. Their purpose was simple and time tested: to lie dormant until the last minute, then release a score of highly explosive mines that would float to the surface and contact with the underbelly of its target.

This process of militarization would last several days and require the efforts of many ships. However, others had been charged with a different task: the clearing of outposts.

It had been many years since the incident at the now sunken Cariya Islands, but nearly a hundred miles out from their location was a series of small landmasses. Nearly devoid of life save for a few pesky locals, the islands were quickly swarmed and claimed by Sentinel stormtroopers. Those who were rounded up were forced into slave labor, charged with the task of clearing out the island for missile and artillery batteries to come ashore and position themselves. It was decided that these would be permanent outposts of the Empire, and would create a first line of defense that would allow elements on Automagfreek proper more time to prepare for an invasion.

Those who refused to cooperate were hacked to pieces where they stood by Sentinel swords, while others were impaled and left to rot in the hot sun. The islanders that were forced into service were met with a quick death once their jobs were finished. They were lined up and mowed down by a volley of machine gun fire, then dumped into a large sand pit and forever forgotten.

Progress was being closely monitored by Count Anderton as well as the other Warchiefs, including the hero of the Kraven Corporation war, Vidimir Breathstealer. Satisfied with the speed and efficiency thus far, they then prepared to execute the second stage of the operation.....

It was rumored that Freekish vessels would be sailing into Gholgoth proper and laying claim to assests on the mostly uninhabited landmass to the west of the Automagfreek island. This gigantic territory was left open to all who dwell within Gholgoth to do with as they please, but it appeared that Lord Dreadfire was about to make the first big claims thus far.

So far there had been no reaction from AMF critics abroad, a sign that perhaps Damien's time in isolation had caused prying eyes to turn elsewhere. It seemed too good to be true, but with the war in Arda kicking into full swing, it was thought that perhaps these new changes would be disguised as measures against an Ardan retalliation into Automagfreek proper.

Either way, the militarization of Dreadfire's new holdings was swiftly underway. The newer Abaddon class submarines would get the honor of defending the massive new stretch of water that acted as a buffer zone and first line of defense. As part of this step up in defense, the "Devil's Fingers", the largest shore based cannons in Freekish history, were about to get a makeover as well. It was determined that the bore size should be increased, and there should be more of these guns in the high mountains of St. Freeksburg as well as to the south near Racine. The Forbidden Isle was still out of the question, and it was hoped that perhaps the next person to attempt an invasion of Automagfreek would land there and become fodder for the unspeakable terrors that dwelled there.

AMF News Update

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you this breaking update. For AMF News, this is Mort Perkins.

Department of Defense chairman Marv Bonesplitter confirmed today that Automagfreek will be expanding its holdings outside of Gholgoth, in addition to the expansions taking place within the region. AMF currently holds nearly two dozen foreign bases, ranging from massive Port Roger Smith in the former lands of The Most Moral Order, to the smaller outposts such as the one inside the former Fascist White States.

Mr. Bonesplitter refused to comment on specifics, but was quoted as saying the following:

"The Excessively Armed Empire, in an effort to further its interests abroad, will be nearly doubling its current foreign holdings over the next 12 months. This is undertaking is the explicit order of Supreme Warlord Damien Dreadfire, and will begin immediately. Freekish warships are departing our outposts shortly and will begin laying claim to territories that we deem necessary as part of our new first response objective."

We will break in with further developments as they occur. For AMF News, this is Mort Perkins.

What the news agencies did not know was that the expansion was already well underway. For weeks AMF High Command was scouting various locations ranging from desolate islands, to highly active commercial areas. Using satellites and fishing trawlers outfitted with state of the art imaging equipment, a list of primary target locations was compiled. These future bases were considered to be prime real estate, each in a logistically important area of the world.

With Lord Dreadfire storming the beaches of Arda, it was unlikely that anyone would take great notice to the aggressive changes happening within the Empire. However, for the curious few it could easily be passed off as a defensive measure in the war against the Five Kingdoms....but those within the inner AMF military circles knew better.

It would be obvious in the weeks and months ahead what Damien was hoping to accomplish. But the question was, where would the Freeks settle first? Would it be the Pacific? The Hearland? Haven? Arda? Only time would tell....

OOC: Gah. I really should finish my lesson plans. But I need a break like all humans. As well, I hope you don't mind AMF, if i can pick up the broadcast. I can edit if you wish.

IC:

The VIS, or Vrakian Intelligence Service, was always busy monitoring several key nations outside of those of the Klatch proper. After all, the Checka were sometimes an irritant and the Vaadians proved to be a most interesting study in intrigue. Still, with the war in the far north and with a military confrontation with the Vaadians actually something that might be realized, the Vrakians were too tied up with their own affairs to really care.

Of course, that didn't mean that the Vrakians weren't watching. Some rumours in the stone, domed halls of the VIS hinted at the possibility of pursuing ties with Kalessin after the ill-fated demise of AESON. Others looked to re-establish the colonies in Haven with yet others vied to explore ties with Greater Prussia of even the Reich. Of course, some issues would have to be glossed over if that were to be realized and most everyone believed that such an event of the latter would be more of convenience instead of true loyalty. A small group even wanted to strengthen ties with Scolopendra and then all of Yut but certainly that wouldn't sit well with the Order. Besides, what has Yut done for the Vrakians lately? Then there was always the interesting option of the Non-Democratic Alliance, but they haven't been seen as of late.

The latest AMF announcement was dutifully filed away. One commander on duty only shook his head thinking that AMF is, at least in his estimation, over-extending itself. Especially with the foray in the Five Kingdoms. He was ony a cadet when the Coalition war occured, but he recalled the maxim of having to use overwhelming force when attacking the enemy on their own turf. Perhaps, he mused, this is why the Klatch has never been successfully invaded, but would perhaps, if ever, only disintegrate from within.
