Cruxium's House of Democracy changed hands last night the electoral defeat of the Socialist Party by the Evolutionist Party.

Results show that the Evolutionist Party gained 47.4% of the vote, compared to the Socialist Parties' 28.8%. Disbelieving SP candidates demanded a national recount, which again resulted with a 47.4% victory for the Evolutionists.

New First Speaker, Philip Dunford, was born in Cruxinium on February 28th, 1968 to parents Christopher and Elizabeth Dunford. The already respected Dunford family rose to power during the Gold Rush after acquiring vast amounts of money during the publicization of mining. Educated at Oxford University, England, the new First Speaker holds a Masters in Psychology and Sociology, as well as Bachelor with First Class Honour in Politics and Government.

When questioned this morning on the promises made in the manifesto, FP Dunford announced that 'privatization of all public amenities would begin forthwith' and that the nation could expect rapid reform under the Evolutionists in accordance with their manifesto.

Celebrations began nationwide today in honour of the Evolutionist Party, with millions of people organising community events.

(OOC: This is an introduction to the new ruling party and First Speaker (Equivilent to the Prime Minister) of Cruxium. It is also an invitation to companies to begin addressing the new government about setting up business in Cruxium, which is making everything except the police force private.)

Cruxium witnessed the beginning of the promised privatization today as iron, bauxite, copper and titanium mining contracts were sold to Raven Corps.

First Speaker Dunford and the CEO of Raven Corps each signed the contract for mining rights, with the foreign company expected to begin extraction within the next few months, hopefully bringing several hundred new mining jobs into the market.

People interviewed on the street were all pleased with the Evolutionist Party and their new First Speaker for carrying out the promises made and acquiring such an excellent contract in such early days.

First Speaker Dunford unveiled the long awaited plans regarding Spirituality Tax and Religious Establishment Laws.

Amendment IV of Law LVII;

Spirituality Tax to be paid by members of all organised religions; including all forms of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Druidry and Paganism; consisting of 20% of the income of the aforementioned members. Failure to pay Spirituality Tax will result in a minimum charge of a Sv1,000 fine, and carries a maximum sentence of a Sv10,000 fine and jail term of no more than 6 years.

Buildings considered to be used for religious congregation must register themselves as Spiritual Establishments, costing Sv100,000; annual fees of Sv25,000 are to be paid for as long as the property and/or land is considered a Spiritual Establishment. Religious congregations in places not registered as Spiritual Establishments will result in a minimum on the spot fine of Sv250, and a maximum sentence of 2 years imprisonment.

Import tax on religious products, including, but not limited to; holy books, religious iconography and pro-religious literature; is set at 65% of the purchase and shipping cost of the item(s). Failure to declare items considered religious in nature will result in a minimum fine of Sv5,000 and a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and a Sv250,000 fine.

Public display of religious iconography, pro-religious statements and/or any other item considered religious by the people will result in an instant jail term of no less than 2 months and a maximum sentence of 5 years.

It is believed that these new amendments will be well met by the people, and will put further pressure on the already existing religious establishments and practioners. One of the many parts of the Evolutionist Part manifesto, the Religion and Spirituality amendment has been swiftly implemented.

Cruxium announced its' discovery of uranium this morning after the only remaining public sector mining company, Oligarchal Mining Operations Ltd, discovered large quantities in the south of Cruxium.

The find came after trace amounts of uranium were found three weeks ago, prompting expansive searches for further traces of the mineral. Until that time it was believed that Cruxium was bare of uranium.

Oligarchal Mining Operations Ltd. remains open for sale and is currently the only method of acquiring the discovered uranium, though further, undiscovered uranium, is believed to exist.

In further mining news, enormous amounts of copper were discovered nine days ago, causing copper prices to plummet to a record low. Economists have predicted difficulties for Raven Corps and Skytech Industries in Cruxium.

Rumours abound that an enormous one-time contract is about to be opened for bidding to armament companies around the globe in accordance with the manifesto laid forth by the current Voice of Democracy.

Leaked papers suggest that items amongst those required will be military installations, missile sites, extensive arrays of missles and biological and chemical weaponry.

While the government is yet to make an official statement, its' silence on this matter is being interpreted as a confirmation as to the validity of these documents.

In other news, copper prices continue to plummet.

Kanami strongly condemns the introduction of Amendment IV, Law LVII, as it resembles tyrany that of communisim or militay dictatorship, and not of democracy. Kanami does not tax atheism in anyway shape or form, and finds it appaling the way you have put a price on peoples most sacared belifes, and incredible penalties imposed as a result.

Adolf Hitler started out by "taxing" the Jews, and ended up massacering 6 million of them, (enough to kill everyone in Carmina Gadalica twice) and fears that the weapons juggernaught may be staying down another equally dangerous path.

Yet another high reason, the people of Kanami distrust Capitalist nations, and why the government does. In all honesty, we can't stop you, but your people can. Kanami Government will not infringe on Crixium's national policey unless it becomes a case of gross human rights abuse. Untill then, Kanami is now opening the doors for asylum seekers, as we always have been and will be the forefront out post of democracy.

In everyone's words: SHAME ON YOU CRUXIUM, SHAME ON YOU PHILIP DUNFORD A man with a degree in sociology ought to know better.

Your's turly,

Elenore Romney-Prime Minister

First Speaker Dunford sat within the enormous leather chair, a low mahagony table to his left covered in the mornings papers; broadsheets from Cruxium and England. The remnants of a fried breakfast were collected by a member of the administration before the First Speaker collected up a copy of The Guardian.

"Excuse me, First Speaker, but a formal letter has arrived from the national leader of Kanami."

The Voice of Democracy entered session and, as was the custom, First Speaker Dunford began proceedings.

"I have received a rather offensive missive from the leader of Kanami today." Gesturing, he indicated that each member should open their folder. "As you can see in this copy, it is rather crude and to the point. I have taken the liberty of having the following reply drafted, if you would all be so good as to turn over-leaf."

To:-Prime Minister Romney, Kanami,

Having received your letter regarding Amendment IV of Law LVII, Religion and Spirituality Tax, I would invite members of your cabinet to come to Cruxium and see the progressive social projects our government is undertaking. You may well find that it encourages you to initiate tax upon worship and religious organizations within Kanami.

Being unfamiliar with the precise intricacies of Kanami politics, we can but presume that you have been elected into your position. We, however, have been. The people elected us as their representatives, aware and highly supportive of our amendment to Law LVII, so it is the choice of the people that has resulted in such stipulations on supersiticious practices.

On behalf of the Voice of Democracy, I wish to thank you for your interest in our nation and hope that future missives are written with more decorum.

Yours Sincerely,
Philip Dunford

"Facinating, I wasn't expecting a response."

Dear Mr. Dunford,

You have your facts straight, I am elected to office, as all our Prime Ministers are. But as to why you would consider telling us to tax religious establishments, after I told you we most agressivley disagree. Taxing religious establishments makes no sense. While all church-goers, be it congergationalist, preist, minister, rabbi, bishop, what ever, pays taxes, there is not sepreate tax set aside for any religion. Our First Constitutional Amendment strictly prohibites such:

Parliment shall make no law, establishing a state of religion and restricting practice thereof. Parliment shall not impose on the peaceful gathering of peoples.

And as Parliment has no intrest to change the Bill of Rights and Constitution of the Republic, it is extremly unlikely to tax religious establishments or even Atheistic Socities. Frankley it makes no real sense in polotics to tax establishments, other than to be opressive, and collect more and more money, regardless of Parlimentary belifes, or House Belifes, even belifes of the public.

Sincerly, Elenore Romney-Prime Minister. ENCLOSED is an additonal letter.

Dear Respected Leader Dunford,

My name is Eric Robertson, I'm the executive producer and host of a Kanami News Show, known as Around the World Tonight. We envite you as a guest speaker to join our show, either via-satalite or Live with us. You will engage your own opinon, along with others that agree with you, against thoes that disagree. I'm sure people would like to know more about the national policey you have recently enacted.

Sincerly,

Eric Robertson

To:- Mr. Robertson,

Upon receiving your kind invitation to appear upon your programme, either live or via satellite link, I am afraid that it would be incorrect for me to do so personally. However, we of the Voice of Democracy are very happy to send another Speaker as our chosen representative. Kindly inform us as to the details regarding this event.

The House of Democracy caused raised eyebrows today in a shock change to immigration law. The following is the newly amended Immigration & Citizenship Acquisition Law;

Amendment I of Law XII

In the interest of ethnic diversity, there is now an immigration limit of 250,000 non-citizens per annum. Immigrants must speak fluent English, have atleast a base knowledge of Cruxian Law, have a clean or served criminal record and undertake citizenship lessons upon entry; further they must have either internationally recognized qualifications of atleast A-level standard or, alternatively, a certified trade skill.

Work permits must be acquired after successful entry and are required to enter work within six months. Work permits shall have a five year duration, during which time work and social integration will be assessed. Failure to work or undergo social intergration will result in deportation. For the duration of a work permit, income tax is to be paid at 200% standard rate.

Citizenship may be obtained through the successful completion of the Cruxian Citizenship course and;

Ten years residence with nine years work
Five years residence with Advanced Citizenship qualification and two years work

Citizenship confers the right to vote, run for national election, and work in the public sector. Furthermore, Citizenship removes the requirement for a work permit and all related fees, and allows for application of a Cruxian passport.

Immigrants are not required to apply for Cruxian citizenship regardless of length of stay. However, non-citizens must possess a work permit at all times and are unable to apply for a Cruxian passport.

Non-citizens are subject to deportation if convicted of any crime at any point during their stay, or breaching the terms of the Cruxian work permit. Deportation will result in the seizure of all Cruxium-based assets. Prior to deportation, there will be an opportunity to appeal for two months.

This amendment increases annual immigration limits, introduces Advanced Citizenship classes and allows non-Cruxium born citizens to run for government positions.

So far this amendment has met with mixed reactions, though the pro-evolution government insists that it is for the "future good of Cruxium and Humanity, that immigration be allowed to a reasonable and responsible degree."
