Universe Two - Rules, signups, and other stuff

Note: The original thread was becoming cluttered - and UII has undergone quite a few revisions. I toyed with the idea of editing the changes into the original post, but that post can remain the monument to the beginning of UII. It simply wasn't feasible to delete the original rules, and replace them with the revised rules, and then get everyone to read through the mass of the thread to try and figure out what was going on. It's a fairly old thread in any case, and a clean slate is often useful.

Firstly, Universe Two is, in a way, like Earth II, or Galaxy II. However, UII (as it's shortened to), is not restricted by NS population size in any way, in fact, it's barely related to your NS stats at all - apart from the fact we use Jolt to RP for the most part, of course.

UII is a universe, thus, there's infinite space for everyone. If you wish to take a look at the original thread, look here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=490790)

However, you can claim whatever you want, provided that you're willing to RP it - A galactic empire, for instance, will require a significant amount of RPing in comparison to a single ship with twenty crewmembers. If you want to claim a nation, an alliance, a single ship, or a trading conglomerate, all of these are fine.

The rules are below, a basic guide to starting out, and staying, in UII.

Universe II - Rules

RPing in UII

A - Godmodding is forbidden completely. Godmodding once will result in a warning. Doing so twice will result in the removal of your UII nation.

B - Correct spelling and grammar are expected. If you are misunderstood, or even ignored on such grounds, learn to use a spellchecker. No-one has to compensate for your shortcomings.

C - UII is not the home of single-line RP. If you're not willing to RP to the best of your ability, don't come here at all.

D - Character RP is paramount. This isn't a big battle of nameless, amorphous ships like NS FT is. You RP characters. If you choose not to do so, people are permitted to ignore you for being a sterile, boring RPer.

E - RPs may be posted both on Jolt, or in the UII RP section. Both are legitimate, and recognised within the UII universe.

Ignoring in UII

A - Ignores are tolerated, so long as they are done for legitimate reasons.
I - Ignoring for godmodding is permitted under any circumstances.
II - Ignoring over the size, or technology level of another nation is also permitted - provided you inform them that you do not wish to RP with them due to their size before any RP takes place. This is not a cheap way out of a war, this is for those nations who are thousands of times smaller than others, and any interaction between your nation and theirs would be futile and boring.
III - Ignoring for spelling and grammar is allows, although it is suggested that you ask the offender to use a spellchecker first. If someone is illegible, you are more than welcome to ignore them.
IV - Ignoring is only a last resort - remember that, the more people you ignore, the less you have to RP with.

OOC Etiquette

A - Flaming, trolling, and spamming are all out-of-bounds. The first can get you banned from UII, the second can get you warned, and the third will have your posts deleted (and posting privileges removed if you continue).
B - If someone trolls, spams, or flames, do not respond in kind. Report it to one of the UII moderators, and it will be taken care of.

Claiming your nation

A - You must post a claims thread in the claims forum, on the UII forums. Only then can a claim be approved. Under no other circumstances will a claim be recognised.
B - All claims are subject to an RP test, administered by the checker. Those claims with sufficient material in and of themselves to convince the checker of the RPer's skill will be approved - if not, an RP test will be administered, consisting of a single situation the claimant must RP their nation in.*
C - Extremely large claims, and extremely powerful claims wil be subject to more rigorous RP tests. The more power you wield in the universe, the more skillful you must be to do so.
D - You may claim any number of nations, provided that you can RP them all. You may also claim 'NPC' nations, which you do not RP, but, instead, exist solely for the purpose of supplying trade, or political tension within your nation.
E - Sol, and everything within it is claimed. Thus, no nations may be claimed within the confines of Sol.
F - You may use a technology base from a TV show, movie, book, or comic, however, you may not duplicate that nation. Thus, you can play with Super Star Destroyers, but you cannot simply carbon-copy the Galactic Empire out of Star Wars because you have no imagination. Forming your own Galactic Empire, with different planets and ships is a different matter entirely
G - 'Importing' your nation is allowed. You may simply choose to take your NS nation, and make a few changes, and put it into UII. However, wars, vendettas, alliances.. none of these carry over to UII, unless you agree with the person with whom you're warring to carry it over.
H - 'First in, best dressed' rule applies. Thus, if your history conflicts with the history of an older nation, tough bikkies.

Various Errata

A - Wanky characters, ie, those without flaws, those with uber-omg-powers, and those who are almost godmoddish may be ignored.
B - Keep in mind that planets, and other objects owned by other players cannot be destroyed without their consent - thus, you cannot RP Earth being blown up. You can RP shooting at it, but, as always, it is the choice of the defender to accept the attack or not.
C - Characters from movies, shows, books, etc, may not be used within UII. You may create your own characters, or take inspiration from such things, but you may not take characters from other works.
D - FTL and FTLi count under the 'defenders preogrative' rule. If you're using your FTL as a weapon, they choose whether to allow your ship past their FTLi or not. However, unbreakable FTLi is counted the same as unbreakable shields, and is thus godmodding.

In essence, UII is relatively simple. You choose to claim your nation, (which may be an 'import' of your NS nations if you so wish), and we check over your claim. Note that no claim is refused; however, the more power you are able to wield in the universe, well, we have to make sure the people who are central to the RP are dedicated, as well.

You must write a history for your nation, and if that shows off your 1337 writing skills, we can admit you straight away. Otherwise, however, you have to take an RP test - something we apply on a case-by-case basis.

Keep in mind that you have to RP stuff that happens to your nation - if you have fifty ships in your claim, and have two hundred when you begin your first RP.. well, that's a major wank. And, although we don't ban people from UII for all but the worst offences, people are free to ignore you as they like.

This is all to make UII a conduit of good RP, where people are free to let their imaginations run rampant, without fear of being called number or tech wankers, or, alternatively, to RP tiny, weak nations, without fear of a thousand plotless imperial fleets descending upon them without mercy.

You are free to claim as many nations as you wish, provided that you RP them all, or at least include them in your RPs.

Note, that to claim a nation, please visit the following forum Here (http://z14.invisionfree.com/UniverseII/index.php?showforum=5&prune_day=100&sort_by=Z-A&sort_key=last_post&st=0). Also, please read the rules thouroughly, if you have any questions, direct them to either me, via PM, or on the open rules thread.

UII now has a calender (http://z14.invisionfree.com/UniverseII/index.php?showforum=5), allowing us to map out the entire history of the RPs taken throughout UII. We hope that this will provide a more coherent face for UII.

I have made my claim. The Military number may be large but the Military is acting as the police and the fact that entire worlds have to maintain their own protection without months of assistance thanks to the long and very sluggish wormhole travel. I think it balances out in the long run..

Well, I've accepted the latest two UII members. I feel it's going quite well. Keep in mind that all of next week is exams, so my testing/approving/RPing time will be quite limited.

A calender has been added to UII, giving a strong, coherent history to the universe (although it's only for OOC reference), which, in turn, should make tracking events in the past and applying them to your nation that much easier.

I'll toss my chips into this but I still need to figure out if I will take a smaller and more powerful version of myself or the origional Ta'Nar nation Balrogga was a part of before it was seperated from them.

Fifty claims! A progidous amount, we must agree. Once the current claims are approved, and the claimants' RP tests finished, I'll be updating the memberlist.
