Rebellion in Cotenshire! Foreign Intervention Needed! (Open MT)

Cotenshire

It began small, as most of the revolts in Cotenshire do. A Polish factory worker, angry at having his pay lowered, assaulted an English floor boss during the middle of his shift. Several others joined in, and the fight escalated. The workers tied up and gagged all of the managers and took control of the factory.

For reasons not yet known, this was not enough for the mob, and they marched across the street to the St. Hedwig Courthouse. The mob, now 600 strong, attacked several of the police officers on duty in the courthouse. The resulting gunfire caused some members of the throng to disperse, but enough remained to subdue the guards and take control of the building. The remaining government officials and the factory managers were locked up within the jail cells.

By this time, word had got out of the uprising, and many Poles, who hated the local authorities, joined the mob. The rebels looted the courthouse, acquiring all the various police weapons stored there. When the division of 250 soldiers that were stationed in the city arrived on the scene, the Poles had taken up defensive positions on the tops of buildings, and fired at the soldiers from above. A tear gas attack shocked the soldiers and they scattered, leaving the mob victorious. The rebels, who could not decide what to do next, split up into groups and began looting the businesses of non-Poles and taking over other government buildings.

News of the St. Hedwig factory rebellion soon reached Cotenshire’s capital, New Stockport.

“If the Poles have grievances, why did they not first voice them before violently lashing out?” asked King William V to the Lord Chancellor, Arthur Rockingham.

“Your majesty, the Poles are a simple people who do not realize how just your rule is.”

“I assume that we do not have the military presence in St. Hedwig to eradicate them?”

“Apparently not, my liege. Lord Harthorpe’s division stationed there attempted to stop the mob, but there were too many of them for him to make any successful advances.”

“What could we do, then?”

“We should ask for foreign assistance. They would not be able to resist the calling to help a noble and prestigious King such as yourself.”

“As much as I detest the humiliating act of calling for help, I am afraid that there is nothing else that can be done.”

To all Nations and Peoples of the World

The Most Glorious Kingdom of Cotenshire and its Most Just and Righteous, Most Christian King William Salisbury V wishes, with consent of the Divine Providence, to consult the great powers of the globe.

Be it known that the ungrateful Poles of St. Hedwig have taken up arms against the crown. It has displeased the Most High that the ungrateful Poles have engaged in armed conflict against the forces of the Most Serene, Most Potent King, and it is with divine authority that the Most Serene, Most Potent King now completes to those in foreign lands whom the Divine Providence hath now alerted to action.

The Most Serene, Most Potent, Most Enlightened calls upon said warriors inspired by this message in the Name of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, to flock to the Most Serene Realm of the Most Serene, Most Potent King and seek retribution and punishment in order for the ungrateful Poles.

In store for the great warriors that support the Most Serene, Most Potent King is favor in the eyes of the Most Serene, Most Potent, Most Enlightened, Most Christian King, and sublime salvation in the Arms of the Divine Providence.*

Signed,
I, the King

---------------

Meanwhile, the rebellion grew in strength as Poles from the surrounding area joined the mob. Government officials and many residents of non-Polish descent fled the city of St. Hedwig, which had almost entirely been captured by the rebels. Confidence bolstered by their new strength in numbers, the Poles formed the St. Hedwig Liberation Army and began spreading into the towns surrounding St. Hedwig. Several of the more radical rebels formed terrorist groups that attacked civilians.

In response to the message sent out by King William V, a plea for foreign aid was sent out by Kazimierz Skarbek, a self-proclaimed leader of the rebellion.

I am writing to you, the nations of the world, as one of the many oppressed Poles who have decided that we would rather fight than keep living our miserable lives. I, being one of the few literate among the Polish freedom fighters, wish for foreign aid to help us achieve our dream of a autonomous Polish state, ruled by Poles, in what is now Cotenshire. Us Poles came here long ago, settling the community of St. Hedwig. We were soon taken over and we have been ruled by many tyrants of many countries, the latest of which is the despicable William V. It is the right of every people and every nation to be autonomous and live their own lives without having to bow down to a foreign king. It is my hope that this ideal is as apparent to you as it is to us. Please help us.
