Geographical Information
Rooshda is a country of temperate climate, mostly covered by grassland and small areas of forest. The country slopes downwards to the south as it approaches sea level, the highest point of level ground being the area below the northern mountains at an average height of 1,020 feet above sea level. The highest point in the mountain ranges is 12,502 feet above sea level.
Rooshda is also covered by numerous large rivers, running from the mountain ranges and heading southwards to meet up with the coast outside Rooshdan borders. Historically, the river system has been extensively used for economic activities, although in recent years this has declined.
History of Rooshda before the Revolution
The oldest recorded references to Rooshda date back 300 years to Rooshda City as a monarchical city-state. During this period of time the Rooshdan city-state expanded, and within 100 years occupied other territories and city-states from the northern mountains to the southern coast, encompassing all of what is now known as the Confederation of Coska within its empire.
The Empire of Rooshda was overthrown 200 years ago when the people rebelled against the monarchy. The ruler of the Empire at that time was an autocratic dictator, and several taxation and social prohibition policies of the government incited a revolt. After a brief civil war lasting six months, the monarchy was executed and the feudal system was overthrown. As the remaining feudal lords fled the nation or went into hiding, the leaders of the revolution implemented a republican government with democratic representation. This lasted a further 200 years until the National Communist revolution of 2006.
Information on the Coskan Confederacy
During the civil war, the colonies of the former empire took this opportunity to declare their independence as territories or individual city-states. Over the next 100 years, these territories formed the Coskan Confederacy, a loosely-aligned group of city-states comprising former imperial colonies. The Coskan Confederacy is not a unified political body, nor is it a mutual defence organisation. The Confederacy itself is a free-trade agreement between all involved city-states and territories, whereas all individual defence and political matters are handled by the governments and the people of their own city-state. The headquarters for the Coskan Confederacy Trade Organisation, the body which oversees that free trade is maintained correctly, is located in Coska City in the Southern Federation.
