as you can see i'm out of ideas.

Well uh, you kinda need to come up with a concept you'd enjoy on your own. Otherwise you'll be playing with a concept that you are unfamiliar with, and you'll probably fuck it up.

I can make a suggestion though: no ancient tech nations. Unless you really want to have character driven RPs, and I've never seen that from you so I doubt that is your intention, you can't play with ancient tech at canon level without either wanking your ass off, or without people finding loophole #39248 that lets them ignore the benefits of the zuper awesome ancient tech.

Other than that I can't suggest much; do what you will but at least be familiar with the concept first.

well, what i would do is take the tech but not use any of the Cannon designs.

Instead I would use my own designs that i ould have somene help me with.

Well, considering all Ancient tech we know of is is just Drones (fancy smart missiles), Star Gates, and ZPMs, all of which are rather common on NS, I doubt it'd be a problem. Of course, mish-mashing this in with other tech (Star Wars, for example) would undoubtably be frowned upon.

Do something new. Everyone nowadays, including myself, is one of these:
Warhammer 40k
Halo
Stargate
Star Wars
Star Trek
*Digs through video game collection*
Yeah. Do something new. Like a race based on the kooky "Lil Green Men" thing or something.

I myself are in your position. I'm thinking of joining FT, while also doing MT, and decided that my own 'universe' would be appropiate. Though I like other, pre-made universes, I have my own ideas for weaponary etc. Try making your own tech, and give some rough idea of how it works.

Just make your own. Don't feel that because you play FT you have to join the faceless legions of Star Wars nations or Star Trek nations or Warhammer nations. Feel free to take inspiration from various canons, because after all, who doesn't? But the feel of the civilization you create should be unique. The best players on NS aren't the ones who stick to one canon (or worse, mix several to get all the advantages), they're the ones who create their own from the ground up. Another Star Wars nation, for example, will just blend into the morass of Star Wars nations, but something that you have created yourself will always stand out.

And if I see any light katanas, I'll have to kill you.

Oh come on, you say that like we're all doing the exact same thing, over and over. I pride myself on being an interesting take on 40k (A Chaos Imperium, a concept born of me mulling over an AU idea where Horus wins the Heresy, but obviously with my own characters and stuff.)

Even if you choose one of the widely used techbases (And 40k isn't really that widely used), you can still be unique and still make a name for yourself.

Well, that is a fairly drastic overhaul of the canon. You weren't really who I had in mind when I started the whole "faceless legions" thing because you at least have taken an existing universe and then built a load of stuff onto the top. And I agree that it is possible to make a canon nation unique as long as you twist it around rather than using it out of the box (or just making minor tweaks such as the aforementioned light katanas).

I use a ton of my own stuff. Most of my ships and things liek taht are my own. Sure, I do Canon crossovers, like I have a large Dark Jedi presence on my nation, but that was inevitable. But overall, my nation is my own, from no other universe.

Despite the fact we're Drow and Orks. >.<

But think of your own nation and build it yourself. your own culture, race, everything. If you need help, that's what IIers are known for: When help is asked, it's usually given.

Here is a novel idea, begin from the ground up, using slug rounds for your ships instead of energy weapons, and then advance however you see fit.

*Gasp*! Yes, I suggested it!

Hey i know its grave digging but, I had a good idea recently, Turn into some hellish demons from another realm and have them take a sheilded planet and suck it into their realm then cover the shield in some living, rock that is a few km thick. then have the planet be a large ship building ceter and have large amounts of ships on the surface that were under constrcution be taken made into the core of living ships that are many times the size of the ships that were being built, and for ground troops use the monsters from doom 3.

No. *gets the idea-killing shotgun to enforce his point* The Doom monsters are FTish, but the rest is stupid at best, and laughable at worst. Or is it the other way around? Either way, no.
