Three New Submarine Classes

The Imperial Navy, having decided that the hulls of the Upholder class have reached a state where they can no longer be refitted, have ordered the planning and contruction for three different classes of attack submarine. The ships are highly modular in nature so that hull sections can (relatively) easily added, removed, or replaced in a short period of time. Each class' design is based around the objectives that they're expected to complete.

The Skjold class is designed to ride herd on the Imperial Navy's ballistic missile submarines and has some features unique to that mission, including a strategic release system. The Svaerd class are the fleet escort/screen ships of the new submarines to be built and are classic examples of such ships. The Spyd class are the heavy strike SSNs of the three and are design to hit large enemy convoys or fleet. All three classes share extremely hydrodynamic hulls and a large number of advance quieting techniques that render them exceedingly quiet, which explains their high cost in relation to their displacement.

Total acquisition for the Skjold class will be 864 billion USD for 288 ships, acquisition cost for the Svaerd class will be 2.565 trillion USD for 684 ships, and the acquisition cost for the Spyd class will be the 1.3248 trillion USD for 288 ships. The ships will be built in four blocks with each construction block costing 1.1547 trillion USD.

Skjold Class SSN

Displacement: 10,880 tons (submerged)
Dimensions: 130m L x 11m W x 13.5m D

Propulsion:
1 x Ascension Nuclear SPB-150 Neon-Cooled Pebblebed reactor rated at 150Mw
1 x Electrical Induction Propellor Assembly (with no shaft) in an Accoustically Dampened Housing

Speed: 35+ knots (top speed, submerged)

Crew: 70
Endurance: Limited to crew endurance only. Ship carries eight months of supplies
Diving Depth: 3,370 feet (test depth), crush depth is classified

Radar:
APAR-SX Mod 1 Air/Surface (Medium Range Air/Surface Search/Targeting)
G04 Navigation (Short Range Surface Tracking)
Command and Control:
Falltech GSWDC Control Bloc (Ship Control)
Host arrays for Strategic Launch Verification System
Host arrays for multilink combat systems (such as AEGIS)
EW/Decoys:
Two Internal Dual Reloadable Noisemaker Decoy Units
INS ‘Squidink’ LIDAR Disruption Decoy (releases a chemical detergent from the subs sides that alter the density of the surrounding water, misguiding LIDAR based systems. Affects both friendly and enemy LIDAR)
INS Mk44 Acoustic Intercept
INS Mk603 Intercept/Jamming Unit
Host arrays for ELINT equipment
LIDAR/SONAR:
INS Mk501 Bow-mounted Active LIDAR Array
INS Mk505A Towed Active/Passive LIDAR/SONAR Array

Armament:
10 x 533mm Torpedo Tubes (50 Torpedoes or ASMs)
24 x Mk72S SVLS
4 x 50mm Underwater Supercav Railguns (can only be deployed at shallow depths and low speed)
2 x 500kw Falltech ‘Deadeye’ Laser CIWS (surface use only)

Design: The structure of the submarine is a triple pressure hull made up of HY-200 steel with crush zones and signficant hull bracing and honeycombing. The surface of the sub however, is the greatest innovation, taking the Imperial Navy's viscous gel coating and storing it in a membranic, organic like covering that prevents the gel from dispersing. Layer is very effective at reducing both internal noise escape and dispersing incoming sonar, BUT is in turn easily damaged and is costly to maintain.

Base Cost: 3 Billion USD

[Bump for comments. I'm willing sell modified versions of these subs. The hulls would probably be made of HY-140 steel, would have the ordering nation's hardware installed in place of the license-produced FDI stuff, would have strategic release systems removed (as I don't proliferate nuclear weapons-related tech of any kind), etc. While it would still be very expensive, the subs would probably rate as the best 2015-2020 SSNs available for export.]

[Bump again. I'm just going to have to make a storefront, aren't I?]

[OOC: Do you plan on getting Freethinkers do a picture for this submarine family?]

[I hope to do so, but he hasn't been around lately. He had a concept for a submarine built around similar lines, let me dig it up.
