Long Live the Revolution! Long Live the Glorious Leader!

Irate Moas

OOC: Please, bear with me through this.

IC: Let me spin you a tale of Irate Moas. They had every ingredient of a fascinating story.

A large tropical island, rich in iron and tobacco, and not much else. An opressive government, that outlawed any number of things. A small, fabulously wealthy upper class. A huge, dirt poor, working class. All the elements of a revolution. Only... one thing was missing.

A leader. Someone to speak revolutionary rhetoric with a fierce, charasmatic touch. Someone to whip the uneducated masses into a violent frenzy. Someone who truly believed in the revolution.

Johnny Iron had grown up in a steel working factory town. His father beat his mother, and then was killed by the secret police on suspicion of harboring revolutionary ideals when Johnny was four. His mother doted on him.

After his father's murder by the Secret Police, Johnny had to start work. He did odd jobs for the factory overseers, (the only ones with any money in the town) from a young age. The overseers frequently refused to pay him, and beat him when he demanded his wages.

Johnny's second life changing experience occured when he was thirteen. A man, carrying a copy of the book 'Protocols of the Revolution' written by a socialist revolutionary several decades earlier, pressed the book into his hands before being captured by the secret police. Johnny read the books, and became possessed with a revolutionary fervor. But, remembering his father and the man who had given him the books, he concealed it from everyone.

At the age of twenty, he met Max Thompson, who he fell in love with. Unfortunately for Johnny, homosexual relationships, among other things, were forbidden by the government. Max was siezed after a previous dalliance of his betrayed him under torture. Max, presumably, died before revealing Johnny, as Johnny was never siezed.

After that, Johnny threw caution to the wind- almost. He was careful never to get caught, but started gradually contacting like minded revolutionaries.

Finally, five months ago, he acted. The Popular Comitee for Glorious Revolution siezed the munitions producing town of Koalan, and armed themselves to the teeth. Following almost three months of clashes the Popular Comitee, a large portion of the military deserted, and, in a violent coup, routed the rest of the army. They then placed themselves under Johnny Iron's command. Within a week, Johnny was advancing on the capital.

There he was stalled. The Secret Police held the Popular Comitee at bay for two months. But Johnny Iron was not idle. He built up a huge armor and air force, finally storming into the capital by force.

And that's where our story truly begins.
***
Johnny Iron peered out the window. A sniper blew the beret off of his head. He jerked his head back in. "Sniper," he reported to the men with him. "Fairly good one too. Third window from the left, fifth story. Let Carl know."

The radio man nodded, and muttered something into his radio set. A few seconds later there was another shot, this one from three stories up, and two rooms to the left of Johnny.

The radio cackled, "Got him," reported Carl.

Johnny grinned. "Like I said, fairly good, but nothing like our Golden Boy. Let's move out."

As always, Johnny was the first out of the door, and the one who yelled "Down!" when the machine gun nests guarding the nearby barricade opened up. A moment later a tank rumbled up, the machine gun doing little against it's armor. As Johnny and the squad whooped, it demolished the nests one at a time. When the last one stopped firing, Johnny stood up.

"All right," he said, "That's the last barrier between us and the Big House. Let's show those bastards in government what we think of them!"

The squad howled agreement. Not that it was as easy as that, even with the tank clearing a path. Once they reached the Big House, as the seat of government was known, the Secret Police made a desperate last stand. Room to room they fought. In the reception area to the main office, a sandbagged machine gun nest had been set up, and all but Johnny and two others died.

And then the last of the Secret Police fell. Johnny kicked in the door to the main office, where the onetime president cowered behind his desk.

“‘Ello, mate.” Said Johnny calmly. “We’ve come to have a talk with you about your policies.”
***
Johnny stood in a small room, with a pistol in his hand, as the camera started rolling. “Ladies and gents of Irate Moas, and the world,” he said, “The following content may disturb some people. Viewer discretion is advised and that bullshit.”

He pointed to one of the men who knelt before him, arms and legs chained together. “This used to be the President of Irate Moas. Conservative estimates are that he killed over three million men, women, and children while he was in office. He’s been tried and convicted of crimes against humanity, and crimes against the Revolution. The sentence is death.” He fired, and the back of the President’s head exploded. The President fell forward, and Johnny continued to the next man.

“This man’s face is somewhat less well known, as he didn’t erect statues of himself and slap it on currency. He headed the Secret Police. He was the man responsible for making most of those three million deaths happen. For crimes against humanity and the Revolution, he has been sentenced to death.”

Another shot, and the head of the Secret Police fell forward.

“This man was the President’s head scientist. That means he was in charge of testing his new weapons. On live subjects.”

A third shot. And so it continued, every important member of the now fallen government, lined up and executed in front of the cameras.

“Now then,” said Johnny, “Now that that’s out of the way, we’ll be happy to exchange embassies with any suitably progressive nation.”

President Moltke pressed the stop button on the digital video recorder on the television that played the transmission from Irate Moas and slammed the remote down on his desk, "Progressive my hide, they're nothing but psychotics!" He said with anger behind his voice, he turned to General Krist Von Mann, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, "What can we do about this troublesome nation?"

"We could easily isolate them from the outside world, blockade their waters and airspace until they quiet down," Suggested the general as he took a seat in one of the leather chairs in the president's office, "Or we could conduct strike missions against their infrastructure, send them back to the bronze age."

Moltke nodded to the suggestions, "It may be best to conduct strike missions, as they are less expensive and time consuming than deploying forces for a blockade. What do we have in the area?"

Von Mann looked through a number of papers sitting in a manilla file folder before producing a page and reading from it, "The closest asset would be the Europa Carrier Battle Group, they could be diverted and in position within thirty six hours."

"All right, make it so," Said the president as he dismissed the general and returned to his desk work.

OOC: Aequatio, take it easy on Irate Moas, he is a new nation, and that is what NationStates needs.

I'm not saying you do it, but Superlymassivelyuber nations invading and annexing and destroying new nations of around 5 million is killing the game, and I think it's deterring new nations who could be skilled at creating and enjoyable RP from RPing.

Besides, Irate Moas made a good OP RP. You don't see that around often.

Johnny Iron strained, and, with the help of the other man, helped lift the beam off of the struggling woman. "Relax. You're in the hands of the Revolutionary Intern Government. Someone get this woman some medical attention!"

Two stretcherbearers took the woman away to the closest functioning hospital, as an aide ran up to Johnny Iron. "Sir, we've recieved two replies." He handed Iron the telegrams. Johnny quickly scanned them.

We thank you heartily for your recognition. We will be happy to exchange embassies soon, however, at the moment, the capital is still in the process of being rebuilt. We will contact you as soon as embassies are available.

For the second reply, Iron returned to his new office. The luxurious armchair that the dead president had favored was gone, replaced, on Johnny's instructions with a plain metal folding chair. As soon as the necessary men weren't needed for the aid efforts in the city, he planned to get rid of the mahogany desk as well.

For now, it stayed, and his phone rested upon it. Johnny dialed, and then told the person on the other end, "This is Johnny Iron of the Irate Moas Revolutionary Intern Government. I'm told that someone wants a word with me."

I will send medical supplies as well as some five of my medical teams to assist. They should arrive in about 36 hours via Cargo planes. Johnny took his hand off the phone and put it back up to his ear. "Sorry, what was that?" He asked.

About then the shots outside the building started. "Sorry, king person, I'll call you back," he said, and hung up the phone. He picked his pistol up and glanced out the window. Several men in secret police uniforms had killed the two guards at the door and were in the process of forcing the hastily reinforced door open.

"...and so far we have had very little trouble on the streets following the curfew's announcement-"

A knock on the office door interrupted the Captain of the Revolutionary Militia in his report on gaining control of one of the southern districts of the Capital city. Kit Sharpe let his stare leave the Captain, much to the man's relief, and centre on the door as it opened.

The structure of government was still very tenuous. The only thing maintaining order with the new Status Quo was the Revolutionary Militia; semi-trained armed thugs who had made up the majority of the National Communist Party's membership base during the years planning up to the revolution. Now, alongside seceeding military units of the former Army, they were policing the streets, keeping the peace...and keeping the government running.

The person at the door was a young Private in the militia, who meekly entered the room under the gaze of his Supreme Commander. He approached the desk and stood stiffly to attention, saluting with a hand containing a sheet of paper in an absurd fashion. "Sir!" he barked.

Sharpe eyed the man for a few moments longer than the Private felt comfortable. "Yes?" the former Englishman eventually said.

The Private stepped forward, placing the message on the table and returning to stiff attention. "Sir! This typed report was transmitted to the Foreign Office regarding a televised revolution, shortly before we took the building."

Sharpe took up the paper and spent a few moments reading it. His mind ticked like a steel clockwork device. 'I wonder...'

He gave it back to the Private, and then began writing a response. He then gave that also to the young man and, unexpectedly, smiled. "Take these to the men at the Foreign Office and get them to transmit this in response."

The Private saluted sharply, and turned for the door. Sharpe's eyes watched the man's figure leaving the room with a slight smile on his face, and turned back to the Militia Captain.

"How are the dissident lists progressing?"

Well, I wouldn't know about assassination. I have a pretty peaceful nation, but I get what’s going on. As you may have heard I have changed the way supplies will be arriving and the like in order to better secure everything.

Back to Democracy, we have an usual system in Nellisland designed to please the old traditionalists as well as institute modern governmental policies. I would split your nation into Provinces, and setting up a House of Council of some sort. Then have them elect a President, Prime Minister, etc... The vast majority will, but if things do get out of hand they may be deployed in order to keep the calm. The most important thing is getting those supplies to the people who need them. Once your people see we are here to help there will be no problems.

Three days had past since King Nellis has issued the order to send supplies to the newly revolutionized nation of Irate Moas.

The ships deployed were:

Three Cargo Ships - Full of Ready to Eat Rations, Bottles of clean water, blankets, lamps, clothing (of several sizes), various basic medical supplies and batteries.

Five Battleships:

The USN William I
The USN William II
The USN Andrew I
The USN Michael IV
The USN Armor

Each battleship carried a medical team that would help if needed. As well as 200 soldiers each. All fully equiped and ready should the issue arise.

One top of all that twenty other agents had been assigned to the ships. There job was to blend in with the population and do some intel work. King Nellis wanted to make sure his supplies were being properly used.

The ships arrived and a telegram was sent:

To: The Leadership of Irate Moas
From: Admiral Harris of the USN Armor

We are carrying supplies and medical personal from the nation of Nellisland. Permission to dock, unload, and get to work.

Official Communique from the desk of Soviet Premier Comrade Vladimir Kuschev of The Iron Curtain Of The USSR Of The Pan-Soviet Union:

Greetings Comrade,

Following a meeting of The Politburo here in The Kremlin, it has been universally agreed to send you medical supplies as soon as possible.

As you read this, 10 Medical supply ships equipped with medicine, blankets, beds and field hospitals for simple and serious medical procedures are being sent to you for your people's medical needs, to either be staffed by your own medical staff or that of The Red Navy, Air Force and Army.

Escorting this is a deployment of our Red Navy so as to see to it the shipment gets to you and your people safely.

A word of caution comrade, we get word a convoy of ships from Nellisland is heading your way offering help.

Remain on alert, their reasons may not be that of a good intention.

In Solidarity,

Comrade Kuschev

Supreme Soviet Premier Comrade V. Kuschev,
Of The Iron Curtain Of The USSR Of The Pan-Soviet Union.

Secret IC:

The Red Navy Deployment to Irate Moas was commanded by Soviet Rear Admiral Georgi Badanov, a jolly seadog of a comrade and veteran of the campaign to crush the capitalist rebels in The Marxist State, aboard his usual assigned vessel, The Red Navy Carrier Zhukov. The Red Navy Deployment in total consisted of:

10 Medical Supply Ships carrying medicine, blankets, beds, and field hospitals with operating theatres.

Protecting this as a precaution was 5 Dreadnaughts (Stalingrad, Leningrad, Kursk, Moscow, Kharkov) 8 carriers, sixteen guided missile cruisers, sixteen guided missile destroyers,
8 frigates, 16 attack submarines, and
8 combined ammunition, oiler, and supply ships.

OOC: Fast forward a bit.

Secret IC to Irate Moas

The Medical ships began to dock at the specified dock arranged at Irate Moas, although the Red Navy itself took turns to dock, rather than all dock, so a number of the deployment at any time was on the lookout for danger.

Soviet Rear Admiral Georgi Badanov was aboard his docked vessel, The Red Navy Carrier Zhukvov, taking in the scale of destruction created during the war by the people of Irate Moas against the repression that had oppressed them for so long.

A slope was launched onto the dock for him to walk down, and so he descended, a big man, 6ft 5 by conservative guesses, and a good weight he carried too, a formiddable looking character with his bushy and wildly tangled Black beard, but with it a friendly and easygoing personality whose passion for his fellow man and indeed beast knew no bounds.

He wore Black trousers and old boots, white socks, a Blue wolly pullover, and atop his head, his Soviet Rear Admiral's hat.

He stopped halfway down the slope, breathing in with old pleasure the smell of docks mixed in with the salty air that clung over the sea, and he now waited patiently and with courtesy, for him and the Red Navy Deployment under his command to receive permission to disembark and help.
Nellisland
01-09-2006, 14:34
Admiral Harris directed his men to unload the food unto the Irate Moas trucks, and about thirty of them follow on their own trucks. Other members where sent to make sure the area was secure and to unload the medical supplies. The medical teams awaited orders from the Irate Moas government.

Johnny Iron explained to Harris, "The supplies will be taken to a central distribution unit, which we've set up in the capital, it being about the center of the country. A fair amount will remain in the capital, as it's the largest city, and was the hardest hit by the fighting. The rest will be distributed according to need throughout Irate Moas. I've been given to understand that you want someone to provide oversight, to ensure that the supplies are correctly administered, at least to begin with, yes?"

"Yes. I've been ordered to maintain my presence here as long as we are sending supplies. King Nellis has also asked to send an ambassador to help you set up a new government within this nation. I am to request this personally"

That latter being the case, I'm rather afraid that I'm going to have to ask you to stop sending supplies. As for your latter request, at this point I am sorry to inform you that I have to deny it. We mean only a small amount of troops will remain with any supplies that we ship. The King does not want his resources mishandled. This request is not that unreasonable. Your people need supplies, we have supplies, and we are willing to give them but not without some small presence with them. It won't be more than 200 soldiers and they will be housed on the ships, fed on the ships, and will only leave when transporting supplies or protecting medical teams.

"Correct. Hell, they can even bring knives. But only one hundred armed personnel at any time. As I said in the beginning."

Johnny Iron wouldn't have lived through the revolution if he hadn't had trigger reflexes. So, as soon as he heard somewhat shout 'Die!' he tackled the Admiral to the ground, and the bullet whizzed above him. He drew his pistol and began firing at the source of the gunfire. But the sniper was gone.

"Sorry about that," he said, climbing to his feet and dusting himself off before offering a hand to the Admiral.

The Admiral walked up the ramp back unto his job, and dialed the number of the King...after what seemed to be a heated conversation the Admiral stepped back down and said:

OOC: Fast forward to the distribution hub.

IC: Johnny Iron climbed out of his small car and nodded at the large granite building, which largely resembled a fortress.

"That was the main telecommunications center during the opressive regime. They destroyed a lot of the outgoing lines when they realized they weren't going to win, but enough of it is still intact to make it useful for processing requests. It's also sturdy enough to prevent what's left of the Secret Police from making raids on it."

"Not many, besides the capital itself. This is where the fighting's been for the last couple months. As I said, what we mostly need is what we don't produce ourselves right now. And that's food and medicine." He strode up to the main door, which was essentially a slab of concrete on hinges. "Oy! Open up!" He called, and the door did. "The place that need's food the most would be the southern provinces. The secret police burned what fields there were when they pulled out. Matter of fact, it's the southern provinces that are putting the strain on the rest of us."

OOC: Hey, I thought of an idea where whats left of the Secret Police takes over the compound and Johnny and the Admiral are trapped inside trying to escape/re-take it.
Irate Moas
01-09-2006, 20:01
OOC: Not a bad idea actually.

IC: Several hours ago:

Bob Smith glanced up. The trucks from the northern provinces were early. That made for a pleasant change. The code was transmitted, and Bob grabbed ahold of his handle and pulled. The concrete door slowly swung open.

The trucks drove through. Almost immediately Bob realized something was wrong. The trucks had been recently painted red. Painting was anything but a priority these days.

And from the back, where the supplies were supposed be, emerged instead men in the once feared uniform of the Secret Police. Bob drew his sidearm, but the Secret Police were already shooting. Bob was hit in the shoulder and the leg, and fell hard. The last of the Secret Police to emerge from the trucks strode over to Bob. As far as Bob could tell, he was the only one, besides the Secret Police, in the courtyard who had not died in the initial hail of bullets.

The man placed his foot on Bob's neck. Bob gasped for air. "I want a full sweep of the compound, neutralize any resistance, and do it quickly. Iron will be here in a few hours, and I want to be ready for him."

He glanced down at Bob, and then lifted his foot and slammed it down again.
***
Now: Johnny strode into the courtyard. As soon as the Admiral entered, the concrete door was pushed shut. Johnny swung around, raising his pistol. The Secret Police who had pushed the door shut went for their weapons, but Johnny was already firing. One, two, three, four, five, six. Johnny turned to the admiral.

"Fuck." He said, calmly, reloading his pistol.
Nellisland
01-09-2006, 20:42
The Admiral ordered his men to fire at will, and drew a pistol himself. It had been so long since he had seen real combat he questioned if he could handle this at all.

"They must have taken the compound." He yelled ducking behind a truck that had been flipped over. "How the hell did they get in here..."

His voice was cut off when bullet knocked his cap off his head.

"Fuckin' snipers. Johnny watch out! We need to find a way outta here!"
Irate Moas
01-09-2006, 21:10
OOC: How many of your men are there here? Oh, and just for the record, they came in from the south.

Johnny grabbed an AK-47 from one of the dead Secret Police. "Yeah? Only problem is they've remote sealed the exit." He pointed to the heavy iron bolts, and then started firing at the sniper. "The control room is in the center of the complex. On the other hand, there's a small entrance on the west side of the complex."
Nellisland
01-09-2006, 21:19
OOC: About fifty to start equiped with MX8's and body armor. Ten drivers (I'll just say the died) and about 5 medical workers. Oh...do you want to make a map of the complex...I'll do it if you dont want to.

IC:

"Shit! We got to find that rem..." The Admiral rolled out of the way as another bullet nearly struck him. He fired his pistol and managed to hit the sniper in the arm. However the damage had been done, all of the drivers were dead as well thirty of his men. The medical team, which luckily none had died, was tending to ten wounded soldiers. Leaving only ten non-wounder or dead soldiers.

"Men find cover! Now!" The Admiral grapped his radio and hit the button, "This is Admiral Harris, we are under attack inside of the compound. If you can hear this send back up as soon as possible..." All Admiral heard has static. "Johnny, we need to find a way inside!

"Can we trace the signal?" said Frist.

"Huh. Bastards didn't lock it!" He called, "Come on, what are you waiting for?"
Nellisland
01-09-2006, 21:54
The Admiral followed Iron's lead yelling, "Men! Stay back and defend the wounded and unarmed! We will get the remote."

Harris dove to dodge the bullets flying at him. He was glad his training was still with him. As he ran he grabbed two MX8s off the ground from two of his dead soldiers.

"Johnny! Take this!" he said as he tossed him one of the weapons.

"Guard point," sighed Johnny, checking his weapons. "There's one every so often in case of invasion. I have no clue how many Secret Police there are in here, so there may or may not be a garrison in there."

He opened the thick steel door a small bit, and then slammed it shut again as a machine gun opened up.

"Yep. At least one man manning the machine gun emplacement in there. Any suggestions."

"You alright, no broken bones?" asked the Admiral as he reached out his hand.

OOC: Correct. Because of The Kremlin's mistrust of a nation headed by a King, it was decided The Red Navy Deployment would dock some way away from Nellisland, in case of spies.

Thus, we don't know about the warehouse gunbattle you and Nellisland are in, (unless you want me to know and help...perhaps a Red Air Force designated air strike on a troublesome target? A Red Navy Marine Deployment? I'm quite happy to let you two carry on alone if you are though.)

IC: "Pan Soviet ships, permission to dock and unload supplies. We've got some trucks waiting."
***

Soviet Rear Admiral Georgi Badanov roared heartily to his men aboard his ship The Red Navy Carrier Zhukov, and then onto the secure radio line through to the other ships in The Red Navy Deployment under his command:

"Alright Comrades! Comrade Badanov speaking! We have permission to dock and unload supplies! Our host comrades have trucks ready to load onto! Let us not waste time! Onwards, my glorious comrades!"

Some of the Red Navy Deployment had already docked, including Badanov's Zhukov, finding that as the docks were damaged by the war, docking itself was a ginger and technical operation indeed.

Other Red Navy ships of the deployment stayed out to sea, covering the docked ships from danger of attack.

The medical supplies were quickly now being offloaded and put on the trucks, thanks to the help of many hands making light work, and Soviet Rear Admiral Georgi Badanov was in the midst of it, taking his share of the work as hard as anyone else, if not harder, conversing in broken English with the Irate Moas Revolutionaries as he did so, such a friendly chap was he.

"Open fire men!"

OOC: The other option is that he has agents in my country, and has picked up on the fact that one of the options we're considering is democracy, and the quote is just incidental. But whatever.

IC: Johnny shook his head. "They don't do keys here. The doors are locked from the control room by key code. Unless you've got some C-4 on you, we're going to have to wait for them to come to us. In the mean time..." he opened the door to the machine gun nest. "If you wouldn't mind?" He gestured, "That will at least give us an edge."

"Damn, all I have are grenades and even if we combine them they won't crack open the door. But I wouldn't mind refilling my ammo here..."

The Admiral walked over to the nest and began refueling his stock.

"Sweet. I guess we will just have to wait. Why don't you cover that door and I'll cover the other."

OOC: Sorry.

IC: Johnny nodded. "On the other hand, if you give me up, odds are they'll let you go, rather than risk a diplomatic incident with your admittedly more powerful nation."

He grinned, "What do you think about that?"

Harris shook his head. "Johnny, you are the only real hope for these people. I respect how much you are willing to lose for them. I don't know why you do it, but god damn it I like it. I am sticking with you until we get the hell out of here. Besides, they have killed my men and I'd call that an act of war. Wouldn't you?"

OOC: Sorry for the delay. School and all that.

IC: We thank Leafinistan for their kind words, but at this point, Nellisland has given us no reason to mistrust them. We would be happy to accept aid, as long as it does not carry the condition of refusing further aid from Nellisland.

"Not really. As you may have noticed, we haven't really advertised your presence. As far as they were concerned, they were opening fire on my men. That said, it's more than enough for you to start a war, but not really an act of war in itself. As for your question, it's really just a matter of what I like to call perpetual catastrophe curve. That is to say, I started this as a matter of revenge, and found myself in charge, and at the moment I'm moving from one near catastrophe to the next in more or less perpetual free fall. But this is a conversation for another time. There are at least five men approaching your door.

"Well I'm not letting them take you." Harris said defiantly. He took his gun and made sure it was ready. "Lets get these bastards."

Johnny shrugged and leveled his gun at the door. "You sure you don't want to man the machine gun now?" He asked, scavenging a fresh clip from the dead man who had previously been manning the selfsame gun.

Harris, who clearly wasn't thinking, walked over and manned the machine gun. He made sure it was okay, and felt really stupid.

Johnny smiled reassuringly, "Don't worry about it. Worry about the men coming to kill us, and getting through the door before they shut it again."

About that time the door swung open and Johnny started shooting.
