This is a Special Nellisland News Network Report
It was confirmed today, amongst weeks of speculation, that the Grand Republic of Nellisland would reveal massive changes to its governmental structure. At approximately 1:30 Nellisland time, King Andrew Nellis II confirmed and elaborated this in a press conference:
"My fellow Nellislandians, upon many weeks of speculation I would like to announce that the there will be massive changes to our system of government.
For over three hundred years the citizens of this great country lived under a system of absolute Monarchy. My grandfather, his father, etc ruled this land and gave no political rights to the citizens of which they governed. My father, William Nellis IV, believed that the people deserved to have say in the government they ruled under. Upon taking power my father created the Council of Forza, where the citizens of each state would vote on a representative to have a seat, making ten members. The King could also appoint three members to the council in order to have a say in the daily making of the government, a position I held before taking my fathers throne, making thirteen members. The council would then vote on laws and daily business of the Nellisland people. The King would remain as the chief foreign diplomat, and had full control of the military.
But now, with the approval of the council, we will be moving in a new direction.
First: There will be newly elected position known as President of Nellisland. He will be elected popularly, by all eligible citizens. His duties are two-fold; first they will be chief domestic diplomat to the Council of Forza. This includes the ability to push legislation through, and will break voting ties within the council. A job typically left to the King. Second, they will act as chief foreign diplomat as well. The President will have control of the military, but it can be relinquished if the Council of Forza and the King both vote yes. The President will appoint cabinet position for the heads of all major governmental organizations as the King did before.
Second: The system of implementing bills will be remodeled as well. Before the council would vote and that would that. However, to be passed a bill must be voted yes by the council, and signed by each the King or President. A bill can also be passed if both the King and President agree to it.
Third: The royal family’s role will become largely ceremonial. The King duties will be only to sign bills.
Fourth: Each state will now elect governors, rather than have them appointed by the King. The governors’ duties will remain the same.
Fifth: The Grand Republic of Nellisland will be officially changing its name to the Unified States of Nellisland.
As we move into this new direction I urge all Nellislandians to vote in the upcoming elections. Thank you.
It is reported that election will take place in three months and the major political parties are preparing candidates.
