There's No Party Like a Communist Party! [ATTN: Everyone!]
Preperations were being made throughout Hallad -- celebration on the streets would be the scene in Hallad in all but a few days. It was time to celebrate Halladi independance and over 50 years of Halladi Socialism. The government saw this as a time to invite the leaders of the world over for some beer, finger sandwiches, and hardcore partying. That, and to help re-establish the Republic on the international stage.
Talal Ghazi, People's Commissar of Diplomacy, personally drafted a short note to be sent out in common.
"To whom it may concern,
The Halladi Workers' Republic is currently preparing to celebrate its independance from foreign powers, and we would like to extend a friendly hand to all nations in joining us celebrate this, with the viewing of a parade in Ryydra and a party for national leaders/representatives afterwards. Please join us in this historic event."

**excerpted from Roundtable with Silmariel and Anárion, an occasionally tongue-in-cheek foreign-affairs commentary show on Menelmacari holonetwork ISN**
Anárion: "...and in more off-beat news, apparently Hallad is preparing for what seems to be a colossal, nation-wide, uh, socialist-themed street party. Or something like that. To celebrate, if you can believe this, the fiftieth anniversary of the loss of their freedom."
Silmariel: "Seems a pretty grim occasion to me. What is there to celebrate? I can just see it now, all these commissars lining the streets, 'You will have fun! The State requires it! If you do not have fun, you are a traitor to the People!'"
Anárion: "No kidding... they'd better enjoy it while it lasts, though. Such an extravagance will surely lead to a cut in food rations. How would you hold a socialist-themed street party, anyway?"
Silmariel: "Bread lines for the finger sandwiches, of course. You will receive precisely one finger sandwich, and precisely fifty milliliters of beer. No more, no less. Sacrifices for the state! To each according to his need, yes? And for the kids, you could have, maybe, Lil' Joe Stalin's dunk-tank, where you throw baseballs at a target to give a counterrevolutionary an acid bath."
Anárion: *sniggers* "Surely the VIP's won't have to give up a thing, though. Everyone's equal, yes? Just some are more equal than others..."
Silmariel: *more sniggering* "Of course not... and that will of course also be where all the cameras are. A Potemkin Party, if you will. Cameras anywhere else earns you a trip to the gulag. *she turns to face the camera* Just remember, ladies and gentlequendi, in Socialist Hallad, parties throw YOU. Meanwhile, our first guest tonight..."

Official Statement of the WSOGMMC
A party to celebrate socialism? Comrades, that is entirely hypocritical! Parties are nothing but tools of the bourgeoisie to flaunt their own vile dominance by oppression of the working man! Those truly loyal to the State will never partake in such traitorous and oppressive activities and instead work for the betterment of the State herself! Let us have no such capitalist pig-dog parties in such a glorious socialist nation as the Halladi Workers' Republic (may she endure for a thousand millennia).

It had been a long day for Premier Quetzalcoatl Nochtli, a very long day indeed. About fourteen hours of policies, dealing with the press and fellow politicians plus economics reports were driving him insane. However, no one had interrupted him for fifteen minutes now...possibly the longest streak of the day. He had to get out of his office now.
Quetzalcoatl got up and walked to the door and opened it slowly. However, before he could even sigh, his hopes of going home were dashed away. A chipper, cockney accented voice spoke before him, "Greetings, Premier." Dr. Darius Wellington, Minister of Foreign Affairs stood before the exhausted Quetzalcoatl, although resenting having this sort of interruption, knew this had to get done.
"Dr. Wellington," the Premier acknowledged politely, "what's new?"
"Our old friend of Hallad's having a party. I suggest that the ANL send a delegation."
Intrigued, the Premier stood up straight and said, "Ah, yes; good ol' Hallad, tell them we will be more than glad to come..."
To: Talal Ghazi, People's Commissar of Diplomacy, The Halladi Workers Republic
From: Premier Quetzalcoatl Nochtli, Huēyi Tlàtoāni of the Aztec National League
Subject: Congradulations
We applaud this achievement...fifty years of independence and advocating social justice is quite an achievement. The ANL is only but a few years removed from barbarism and subjegation, and already those who put short-sighted greed and self-centeredness have made sustaining our system difficult at times.
A delegation from the ANL would like to attend this party. We hope you will accept us.
-Premier Quetzalcoatl Nochtli

It was the morning of the event at last. People had worked all night preparing for the massive festivals in the major cities. In the cities there were to be massive parades, featuring marching bands, floats, the Civilian Defence Corps, the People's Militia, and Halladi military equipment (after all, what would a socialist parade be without missiles?) In the more populated areas, there were large flea markets set up. In less populated, most people had moved toward urban areas to join in the fun. There was drinking -- though those who sold alcohol catered to a small audience, as Hallad was more than 80% muslim. People's Representatives (politicians) and other governmental figures gave speeches. The day was, of course, a national holiday, and so everyone had the day off. On every street, Halladi flags were hanging from every streetlight. And people took a seat on lawnchairs to watch the parade go by.
Premier Muhammad, after giving an early-morning speech, awaited the arrival of other socialist party and national leaders in Ryydra, which had long since been considered Hallad's cultural capital.

Assistant Commissar of Foreign Affairs Gerald Johanseen arrived in his tricked out diplomatic shuttle, along with a small security detail, a bunch of Triumph motorcycles to drive in on and an eagerness to mingle. He radioed Ryydra's International Airport using a regular radio frequency--relatively inefficent compared to ND's FTL Comms, but meh, what could you do--and thus said, "This is Assistant Commissar of Foreign Affairs Gerald Johanseen, from the Workers State of New Dornalia. We're here for the shindig."
