As the times change, different distributors of operating systems woke up, smelled the coffee and panicked: They realized that with the invention of "hy-ra~e" (high bitrate) internet connections, the number of people, who want to buy distributions on floppy disks decreased. Some distributors realized this was a chance to try to enter new markets - international markets. They formed the company Koleni JSK to promote OpenSource Operating Systems NS-wide. The operating systems, which they offer to international customers are mostly the following:
* ADVANSID: Singletasking/cooperative multitasking OS with monolithic kernel and nonexisting system requirements. If speed is an issue and the tasks are easy, it is the OS of choice.
* SI/SI-X (Sistenha Ines (=new system)/Sistenha Ines 10): Si and SI-X are different Operating systems with modular kernel, which are based on Unix-ideals. SI-X was forked from SI after fundamental differences between maintainer Kari Syku and network developers led by Ika Iknel. It supports real multitasking and X11 was ported to it. SI-X's mascot is Sisi, the hedgehog, SI has a Kolibri as mascot.
* TAREN: microkernel OS, emphasizing on network-functionality (taren is rejistanian for 'away game'). The GUI (graphical user interface) exists, which is the best you can say about it. Servers for every imaginable protocol (and many more) exist.
* UNEK (officially: uluhet janek, meaning something small, inofficially: UNIX janek, meaning small UNIX): Operating System created by the University of Kalimnintan for teaching purposes. It uses a microkernel and has very clean code since it was created for teaching purposes only and never really intended to be used. However some hackers were attracted by the challenge to make it usable. These forks use different letters in front of the version number: Unek UK is the original and limited UNEK, UNEK EA is a UNEK created by the 'ehaanik'-group and considered the most advanced and usable UNEK. It can use X11 programs as well as programs for the TAREN GUI. The UNEK mascot is the Magical Mouse Mikana.
* MINASRA: Should be working (and be the greatest OS ever) in half a year...
All these Operating Systems are OpenSource. This means, everyone can access the source-code and everyone is free to make its own changes, provided, the resulting program is again released under the same terms.
OOC: feel free to post how Koleni JSK does in your nation, or how the OSes are used/not used/forked/changed in your nation.
