Office of King Markas, leader of the Republic of Pontaris
The King paced as he twirled a pen between his fingers. He would often perform this trick when he was nervous, or in this case, angry. Up and down, back around, the King could do this for hours, and he would off until he heard the voice of his secretary say, "Sir. They are here to see you."
"Send them in." said the King. He placed the pen back on the table and sat behind his oak desk. His plan was simple. The people wanted more land, they claimed of over-population, so he would invade Tech Nations, take the land for his people, keep it all a secret and all would be good, but all had not gone as he had planned. Only a few members of the government new what the King was planning, and only two knew what nation they were planning to invade. And one of them leaked it, and the King wanted to know who.
The first suspect was Bradley Jasper, Minister of Public Relations. His job was to keep an eye on revolutions within the country, as well as dissidents who would look to cause any trouble for the King. The public believed that his job was to be an envoy to the King from the people, and that is what he wanted them to think.
Bradley was there when the King made his decision to invade Tech Nations and spoke out in front of the King. Something that made him rather suspicious.
The second suspect was General Nathan Jessup, appointed leader of the Pontaris military. He made the final decision on Tech Nations, and was given full power to take the nation until news broke and other nations began to get involved. Now he had to pass it off as self defense, which would be quite a task. Jessup is a suspect because his brother was the one who organized a small two hundred man revolution that led to the creation of Bradley's job.
The two men had been called in and where would now face the music. After regular formalities Markas went straight to the point.
"Someone leaked this, gentlemen, and it has caused me a PR battle. I wanted this to go off smoothly. Now I now it had to have been one of you two. I will give you each a chance to speak." The King looked at Bradley first and said, "Bradley, I have known you for a long time and you have always been loyal. Yet, you questioned my decision making and that makes you a suspect. What do you have to say?"
"Sir, I am always loyal to you even if I do not agree with you. It is not the first time and certainly not the last. I did, would not; leak important information like that to anyone."
"Alright...now onto..."
"Sire," said Jessup, "I would like to show this report." He handed him a packet as Bradley began to get nervous.
The packet contained photos of Bradley using the copier to fax a paper. Another sheet was a copy of the fax, sent at the same time.
Markas concluded that it was Bradley who leaked the information. Yet, he looked up and said, "This proves nothing Jessup. You should get better information." He reached into his desk and pulled out a 9mm pistol and pointed it at Jessup.
Both men jumped to there feet in amazement at the King's actions. Sweat ran down Jessup's face, and Bradley's hand began to shake.
"You both have failed me, but one has failed me more than the other." Markas took the gun and shot Bradley three times in his chest, he died within seconds. "I fooled you didn't I. Haha. Now clean this up and get back to work."
Jessup ordered his men to clean up the mess, but was amazed at the King's actions. He was also glad that the King bought the ruse. It was actually Jessup who leaked the information, but the King would never know that...
