South African Invasion of Zimbabwe. (Earth V)

President little walked around his office. his tenure was about to end in 1 years time and he has allready made significant history in terms of changing his countrys metaphorical "course" for the better.

he has also managed to unite Namibia and Botswana into the union. But still this was not enough to quell the Presidents insatiable ambitions to become a world statesman and South African hero.

Zimbabwe looked riped for the plucking, South Africa allready had a motive and therefore a pretext for Invading that nation.

(zimbabwe had commited many atrocities under the Authoritarian leadership of Robert Lumbe, who eventually overan the white dominated government when South Africas regime collapsed in the early 1990s<L The country has been in perpetual chaos ever since.)

Lumbes reclamation policy particularly angered jack Little. Last year Zimbabwean forces "reclaimed" farmland from her white owners and gave land solely to prominent party members and not the "people".

also. white Zimbabweans were stripped of citizenship and forcibly encouraged to move to South Africa who reluctantly accepted the exodus.

"Ive had enough of this charade, Lumbes a scar on the face of Africa who must be eradicated" Little thought to himself.

He then pressed the transmitter button on his desk to contact the General of the South African Armed forces.

here is my Invasion force being deployed to Zimbabwe.

1 special forces regiment:

61 Mechanised Infantry Battalion Group,

121 Infantry Battalion

Olifant 1A/1B series main battle tank (50)

Rooikat 76 wheeled armoured fighting vehicle (65)

Each Infantryman has a standard R1 (license-built FN FAL) 7.62 mm assault rifle.

Total personelle.

100,000 Infantrymen (Including Tank operators and special forces division)

870,000 Logistical support

(bit of a crap list, but hey i am posting stats.)

Zimbabwes standing army is about 30,000 strong and are quite well armed due to Vineyards former military presence in the Region. (They can call up to 500,000 men, however due to the limited arms supply to the nation and the ecomoic purgotory it is in this will not be feasible.)

The Zimbabwean border shared with South Africa remained sparse and almost totally devoid of any significant Zimbabwean military presence. (The Vineyardian colonial army however is believed to still have a presence in Zimbabwe and helped Presidents Lumbes ascension to power when Vineyards colonial regime in Africa collapsed

Therefore it posed no difficulty for the five battalions of South African mechanzed Infantry that crossed the border completely unapposed ...

at the first village South African millitary forces audaciously stormed the Elders meeting house and raised the national Flag of the Union....

a lot of the villagers were apathetic to the occupation due to Zimbabwes abysmal economy and grinding Inflation and poverty that isolated the Rural peasantry from the Urban areas of the Country. Due in a large part to president Lumbes stubborn autocratic and idiotic policies that rendered the nation an International Pariah and Left the once prosperous Vineyardian economy in Zimbabwe in total ruins...

The Border provinces encompassing a few tiny villages were relatively easy to occupy thanks in part to Zimbabwes misperception that South Africas new regime was going to be a weaker and more corruptible one....

The outlying Province of Masvingo provided perfect Opportunity for South Africa to Use her Recently constructed Military Tank ( The Olifant Mark B) as the terrain type was predominantly semi arid desert or shrubland and provided very Little cover for the Defending Zimbabwean army.

This Perceived situation proofed to be false as Experienced Vineyardian forces Bogged down South African Infantry Regiments with Retalitory Artillery fire and Infantry tatics. (This caused a significant loss of life to South African Military forces and in the few days of fighting in Masvingo province. 150 Infantrymen were killed with another 300 wounded.)

However Vineyardian forces were grossly outnumbered and were eventually Routed towards the Provincial capital Of Masvingo township.....

The resistance around Masvingo was particulary fierce and vehement in their efforts to repel the Invading Forces. Rooivalk Attack helicopters were called in to extinguish this "situation" as well as special force operatives sent in to eliminate the sniper threat that had cost the lives of 15 Infantrymen.

The defence of the small township was beggining to Infuriate South African Generals who predicted the down would fall in a matter of hours not days...

(The nation of Zimbabwe takes serious pride in their historic past as an African Warrior empire 6 centuries before Vineyardian Colonization. and this had an affect on some of her citizens whom believed they had to show Allegiance to no foriegn occupier.

South Africa hopes that Perception of "African Liberty and solidarity" will get Vineyardian propaganda out of Zimbabweans mindsets... )

Eventually Masvingo fell after 3 days of persistant and dilligent fighting by both sides...

The offense on Zimbabwes largest city was going to be South Africas Greatest struggle yet.

Before the Initial Invasion two airforce bombers dropped Propaganda leaflets on the city stating South Africas Ideology and why Zimbabweans should become part of it.

(Literacy was high in Zimbabwe in the Era of Vineyard. during that Nations "prolonged" absence. Life president Martin Lumbe changed this however and a segregated educational system was formed so that certain degrees of education depended on that childs parents party Loyalty and allegiance to the President. This system proofed Dysfunctional at best and dropped the national Literacy down to an average of 74%)

Bulawayos defence Remained Steadfast for over two weeks and South African forces were losing 55 troops a day due to adequatly armed Zimbabwean troops and the South African Airforces lack of participation due to fear of "Collateral" damage to Zimbabwean Institutions in Bulawayo (such as Primary schools and Hospitals.)

The Resistance took serious advantage of this and hurried Recruitments were made in the city. Children over 13 where now recruited into the Bulawayo Militia and had orders to kill any South African Soldiers by any means Necessary..

Lighting Guerilla tactics made Armoured Assault on the city difficult.

South African forces Countered by deploying The same tactics as their Zimbabwean counterparts. Eventually the Impasse was broken by an Eventaul All out Blitzkrieg on Bulawayo which included the entirety of the Invasion forces Airforce and Armoured Divisions.

Eventually the Beautiful colonial rich city of Bulawayo was bombed into submission at an enormous cost to South Africa.

South African casualties at the end of the Bulawayo siege were:

770 Infantrymen killed

1200 Infantrymen wounded

300 Logistical staff killed

Zimbabwean Casualties were alsom Immense:

3,678 Regular Infantry killed

10,000 Infantrymen wounded and Captured

1800 Civilian casualties

The Zimbabwean propaganda minister spoke nationally in the Governments Media Communications building beside a backdrop of Destruction the Panoramic View of Harare showed. A makeshift prop of a Zimbabwean flag and a Painting of Presdient Lumbe were hurredly put in front of the the window.....

The Minister spoke to probably no one via a live broadcast.....

"my fellow country men we are undersiege form the Devil himself, South Africa is a manifestation of the Evil one himself, The forces....."

a very profound booooooom shakes the media room to its core and a piece of Cieling narrowly misses the minister himself.

unpreturbed the Minister carried on..

".. of Good shail prevall, Harare will be the Death of South Africa, At the moment our Brave soldiers are repelling the enemy as we speak..."

at that very moment a group of Zimbabwean Generals burst through the room screaming followed by a Zimbabwean footsoldier on fire.

This still did not effect the Ministers composure..

".. and Harare will be Saturated in the blood of our enemies.."

Suddenly a Squadron of Elite South African commandoes stormed the room and apprehended the Minister... The cameraman still bewildered carried on filming..

The Minister was face down with a gun to his head..... he spoke again.

"Untill tommorow this has been Graeham Mubutsu of the Zimbabwean State News.. good night..."

with that the Transmission ended...

Harare capitulated within 2 days and resistance was sporadic at best from the Remainders of Zimbabwes national Guard....

within hours after the cities downfall The Vice president Thomas Kele signed an armistice of unconditional surrender.

The President was no where to be seen.. Intelligence predicts he has fled into Mozambique or Zamibia.
