"When your grandsons ask you where you abandonned your Caesar, tell them it was at Strasbourg!" bellowed Julian as he kicked the haunches of his war horse and thundered off into the fray, his cavalry guard charging in after him. The tribune looked around at his men who stared back at him expectantly. Locking his face into a grim expression, he wheeled his horse and charged back towards the battle, his cavalry squadron following.
The Alemanni were in full retreat, but blocked by the mighty current of the river. Many threw down their weapons and surrendered, but were cut down by the Roman soldiers that advanced steadily without check, cutting down everything that stood in their path. Seeing this, a great deal of the barbarians risked the cold icy river, only to be carried downstream, those that couldn't swim simply drowning and dissappearing beneath the dark waters. It was only by the shouted orders of Julian that the legionaries finally stopped on the bank and watched laughingly as their enemies died in the crimson stained pool. The Alemanni were defeated, and would pose no more threat to Gaul.
