as the CASA 212 Troop plane from South Africa slowly decended to the Immaculate runway of Gaborone air base. Botswanan Former interior minister Joseph tonogo felt a twang of apprehension as he waited out on the Runway. a pretentious and rather over done welcome commitee awaited the first delegates to arrive from the Union of South Africa to celebrate Botswanas "ascension" to membership in the Union.
"it has only been three years since the collapse of the Boer regime, and South Africa has made her Intentions pefectly clear.. Tonogo told New Prime minister Okvongo "look at the this pomp and ceremony awaiting these Imperials"
Tonogo was against Intergration from the get go... He personally believed The union was Hypocritical and now that freedom was obtained for their people they wanted to oppress other nationalities.
and the fact that it was a relatively meek take over made it even more bittersweet. Allready the Botswanan army was intergrated into Union forces. and Gabarone gets a "regiment of troops" and a designated airbase. from Which South Africa will co ordinate airtrikes On neighbouring Zimbabwe..
"Afrikaaners are still in power" tonogo also mentioned to the president. As if by saying that single phrase it would be synonymous with evil and hatred...
The President had to smile at Tonogos vehemance. "always the Cynic arent we Joseph?, i should have made you national treasurer".
