I'm posting this thread to get an idea about how many players might be interested in RPing in a persistent world with a Renaissance/ vaguely steampunk setting. Magic would also be an element. Think similar to Rise of Nations, only the machines wouldn't usually be the size of houses.

I've never heard of Last Exile, although I am somewhat familiar with the idea of a flying ship. Care to enlighten me?

Okay. While I wait to see how many people express interest in here, I might as well explain my ideas a little further.

Here's what I am proposing to do.

I've never set up a PW myself, but I've watched other people as they have gone about creating theirs, and I've drawn some conclusions about what is needed to make it a successful launch:

1.) A map. We need a static map of the world where the action can take place. I can think of some fractal map generators that might do the trick. I'm inclined to create the map, then hack it up into many provinces, and each empire/culture/confederacy that enters the PW receives some provinces to call their own. I'm also inclined to leave some provinces as neutral to provide places for empires to scrap with each other and conquer (as well as room for new additions to the PW).

2.) A website for members of the PW to congregate and scheme. I'll have to scratch my head on this one...I'm only an amateur web designer.

3.) A system of metrics we can use to measure the relative strengths and weaknesses of each culture. There was a system on here crafted by another player which measured wealth, technology, unity, size, and location. I like that idea, but somewhat altered.

This is still somewhat up in the air, and I intend this to be a project of creativity. If anyone has ideas, I'm open to hearing them.

Well, basically they are really, really big ships. In the sky. Think.... well, pre-Victorian era I guess. They use steam to power weaponry and thus would be considered a bit archaic. Musketry complements on board, that sort of thing. Smaller two-man ships are used as couriers and are just now being harnessed as recon fdighters/bombers with limited amounts of ammo and bomb capacity- think WW1 fighter style.

So it's steampunk, basically. Great show with an amazing plot. And the show actually has the stats for its vehicles as canon, so no problem there.

Now, only thing I have a problem with is an offsite forum. All of those die. No exception. Some take a little longer, but all offsite forums die and take their RPs with them. Just make the RPs like the Earths here on II- they are on II but have a central thread to talk on about stuff and RPs are on private threads only for members of the RPing community. The other two things sound fine, but I personally am very strongly against offsite forums.

I'd be happy to join. Just out of curiosity what time period would we be talking? Would we be like the past, only alternated past with steampunk tech, or say the future where we went back to the old ways? But yeah happy to sign up.

Looks good so far... I still only have the barebones of my nation, it doesn't even have a name yet...

Your nation sounds like it's highly defensive, maybe it would have a history of epic sieges and last stands against one or more of your neighbors. My nation is has a poor economy but skilled warriors, we could have a history of violence.

Question for OP: Anybody have any problems with a nation of the undead? Not that I'm doing it, a friend was interested and might drop in later, and wanted to know.

Most likely. He's another WARMACHINE fan, so think the Nightmare Empire of Cryx, down to the zombie pirates.

Undead are acceptable as a race to me. I tend to be very flexible with races so long as there is a good backstory behind them to reinforce their presence. Keep in mind, however, that as Undead you are likely to be feared and despised by all around you. ;)

As for when this thread starts, I am aiming for at least four operational people (not including myself). If I feel it needs to be launched earlier in order to maintain group cohesion, I will, but I would like to have a strong nucleus before I proceed.
