Civil War in Helghan Colonial Force! (Closed, PMT/FT)

Helghan Colonial Force
16-08-2006, 00:26
OOC: I've been out of NS for a while and have decided to start up again with something I'd been working on.Here's a little backstory:

Okay, a while back my two brothers had two nations on NS, Gyranis and Necronis. Both were (ICly) colonies of my nation HCF. He got bored, but enjoyed the RP'ing. I said that we could RP the destruction of his two nations at my hands. A Civil War of sorts. That's what this is, the Civil War I had to put off due to RL troubles. My brother will (besides this post) be RP'ing the rebels through my account (as he doesn't remember his password). I'll be Rp'ing the Empire trying to stop them. Our posts will be different in that all his actions will be in italics, and our sections seperated by several blank lines.

If you want to join, TG me with whether you're on the rebels side or my side. Just remember, this will end with Gyranis and Necronis being wiped out.

“Bloody hell Gortreck. You sure this is a good idea?”

“Of course it is! You want to be free don’t you, or are a collaborating scum Joseph?”

“No…no. I’ll come.”

Gortreck pushed open the door, revealing a room filed with close to one hundred people inside. They were inside an underground bunker which had remained unused for several years, ever since the Helghast moved in. There was movement on a large screen which covered one whole wall. A bald man with burns down the left hand side of his face appeared. The room fell quiet.

“Comrades. Brothers in Arms. Today is the day we claim independence! Our brothers on the Gyranis Colony have pledged their support. Today, we break free from the rule of the Helghan Colonial Force! We begin tonight, at half past ten. Our militia will storm the Governor’s palace and our fleet will make contact with the Homeworld of Colony 101. With luck, the Helghast will give us our freedom, if not…we shall fight until we have it, or we are dead…”

Outside Governor‘s Palace

“I hate guard duty! Especially on this damn place! So fucking cold!” Lionel Horca rubbed his hands together, desperately trying to get the feeling back.

“For the love of Helghan, Horca! Pick up your weapon, you know what the Colonel will do if you leave it down while on duty.”

“Oh calm down Josa. He’s all warm and cosy inside, no doubt having a drink with the governor. No way he’s coming out here. Even if he does, what do you care? If he needs to write a report and punish me, I’ll clear you. Lionel Horca will be on his hit list, not Josa Muntz.”

Muntz sighed and returned to look out at the street. It was quiet. The Helghast had the human scum under a curfew, but even so the Colonial Police always were chasing down some vagrant. Muntz had never trusted the Colonial Police. The Garrison Forces were all Helghast or Halfbreeds, but the Police mainly consisted of Humans, whom Muntz never trusted.

“Quiet isn’t it Josa?”

Muntz whirled to look at Horca. “Yeah. Too quiet. I don’t like it.”

“You’re too paranoid. Next time we’re on leave together, I’m getting you laid. That’ll calm you down. Helghast of course…no Human female will do now will it?”

Muntz smiled behind his breather mask. Horca’s answer to everything was sex. Muntz was about to reply when a voice came through his earpiece.

“This is Sergeant Keller! C.P. Unit 12-001. We have an officer down and are retreating. We have an organised mob, armed with sub-standard Police weapons. They’re heading for the Governor’s palace. Requesting backup!”

Bloody humans. Can’t handle anything…

“This is Private Josa Muntz, Necronis Garrison Platoon 2. What’s your position?”

“We’re just east of the Palace, along the Eastern main road, roughly two junctions down on your right. Need backup. This is no ordinary mob. They’re organised and have armour.”

Horca looked up. “Armour? As in…tanks?”

“Seargent, can you repeat last statement in greater detail?”

“Yes, sir. (Helghast were always superior to humans, no matter rank) They have an old M-21 Scorpion APC armed with Quad-Barrel AA gun and crudely fitted sub-standard MRL. Also an even older M-16 Hover Light Tank, Dragoon standard, two Heavy MG’s and a single HE cannon.”

Shit…

“Copy that. All available Colonial Police, bring all available Heavy weapons and infantry to Keller’s position. Hold them as long as possible. Expect Helghast reinforcements soon.” Muntz turned to Horca. “Get inside! Get the Colonel and as many of our squad as you can find!”

A sudden explosion rocked the ground. Down the road, a building crumbled.

Horca stared at Muntz. “No need. They’d have heard that…”

Horca was right. Thirty seconds later, Colonel Richshaft had burst out of the Palace doors.

“Status report! What the hell is going on out here!”

It was Muntz who replied, “Sir, Private Horca and myself were on guard duty when a distress call came from Sergeant Keller of the Colonial Police. He reports that an organised group of Humans are moving towards the Palace. They have sub-standard Police weaponry and two old class armoured vehicles. An M-21 Scorpion APC and a M-16 Dragoon Hover Light Tank.”

“A Dragoon and a Scorpion. Jesus they’re old. No threat. Get a few MRL’s up there. Sergeant Korvath!”

A masked head appeared in the doorway. “Yes, sir!”

“Take your squad and Squad 2-01 with you. I’ll send down Elites with heavies if you need them. Stop that mob before they reach the Palace!”

“Yes, sir!”

Colonial Military High Command War Room

The assembled Generals sat in perfect silence around the table. On the wall in front of them was a map of the Fortress City Tortrasit, the Capital of the Colony Necronis. A metal door slammed shut and they turned to face Lord-Commander Maximillian Veers. His metallic face gleamed in the dim light and his cybernetic legs resounded as they hit the floor. He took his place before the assembled leaders.

“Field-Marshals. Today is a sad day for the Empire,” began Veers, his voice enhanced to echo around the room.

“Today at 2212 hours, local Necronis time, a rebellion began. According to Intel, the enemy are poorly equipped with old and thrown out Police weaponry, bolt-action rifles and so on. Unfortunately, they outnumber our forces there roughly four men to each one Police officer, and 5 men to each Helghast Garrison soldier in the city. So far, the only city to have erupted in rebellion is the Capital Tortrasit. This is fortunate in that we have the enemy isolated in a single area, but unfortunate in that it is also where the Planetary Governor has made his home.”

The picture flickered to an enhanced satellite vid-capture of fighting in the streets of Tortrasit. A burning APC was the only light for the soldiers. Flashes of fire showed the rebels were using crude grenades and molotovs. The Police were using shot up cars and fallen rubble for cover, while the better trained Helghast Garrison were attempting to get in buildings for a topshot.

“It appears our Garrison may need some help on Necronis. We need to control this rebellion before it can get out of hand. Lord Cetanu has asked me to personally lead one of you to Necronis and ensure that not only is this rebellion crushed, but every human on that planet who collaborated with it are executed.”

A General at the back raised his hand. His name tag read Field-Marshal Ribenstropp, 4th Army.

“My Lord, it is not my place to question the rulings of the Lord-Marshal, but would it not be more effective in the long run to exterminate all humans in the Empire?”

“Trust me General, Lord Cetanu has given this a lot of thought. He believes it in the best interest of our survival to allow them to live. Not only would exterminating them leave gaping holes in our economy as it would take hundreds of years to populate their worlds to the same level with Helghast, but it would bring about outsiders claiming ‘moral ethics are being breached’ and other such nonsense. Our orders are simply to eliminate the rebels, not the humans.”

The Generals nodded.

“Now…We also have reports of a minor outbreak on the Mining Colony of Gyranis. Small, and even worse equipment, they are no threat but still must be taken care of. Due to the small population, there is no Garrison, only the Police. Field-Marshal Schwarzkopf will take the First Army to Gyranis. I will lead Field-Marshal Putzkammer and the Second Army to Necronis.”

The Generals nodded in agreement. They stood up and began to leave. Veers turned to the screen where the video showed the Helghast and C.P.’s were pinned down.

“And Gentlemen, have all your armies on standby. Putzkammer and Schwarzkopf, move fast. I want as little Helghast to die as possible.”

Bullets slammed into the car Muntz was using for cover. He ducked down and clicked a button on his Light Assault Rifle. The back popped open, spilling the empty bullet drum. He slammed another one in, shut the casing and began firing again. Across the street, Horca was firing relentlessly into the human rebels. Muntz knelt down as bullet fire raked his cover. To his left, a human Colonial Police officer sat with his back to the car. He was moaning.

“Oh God….I’m gonna die. I just wanted in for the pension….Oh God!”

Muntz grabbed him and pulled him in to his face. Muntz was livid.

“You will stand up and you will fight! Do you understand me? If not, I’ll shoot you myself!”

The officer stared in horror straight at Muntz’s orange goggles.

“You’ll be Court-Marshalled….”

“I’m Helghast, you’re human. Do the frikkin’ math!”

Muntz threw the Officer down and returned to firing. The officer thought for a minute and then stood up. He began firing his Bolt-Action Rifle as fast as he could. The fool made himself too big of a target and it wasn’t long before he took a bullet to the head. He fell backwards in a spray of blood. Muntz grinned sadistically before returning to fire at the rebels. An explosion ripped through the building beside him, showering him with rubble. He was buried….All he could see was blackness…

A few seconds later a hand was pulling him out of the rubble. It was Horca.

“You alright! Come on, Colonel’s ordering a fallback to the Palace. There’s bunkers in the wall. We can fight much more effectively from there!”

The Helghast began sprinting. Every couple of steps those at the front would turn and fire into the charging rebels. Once all others were past them, they’d turn and start running. Muntz ran with difficulty towards the palace, Horca holding him up. Behind him, a Police Officer tripped. As he stood back up a grenade went off, knocking him down and ripping one of his legs off. He tried to stand, but a blast from the Tank blew him into chunks before he ever had the chance.

The Loyalists made it to the palace wall, as they turned inside the gate, machinegun fire ripped into them, killing a Helghast and two Humans. The Colonel slammed down a switch and the gate slammed shut. Bullets rattled off the Ceramite, scratching it but doing no harm.

“Alright Helghast! Get to the bunkers! Set up some Heavy MG’s and start firing, MRL’s to the roof. Take out that tank before it breeches the wall! The rest of you, find some cover in the windows and get firing!”

The men spread out, moving to advantageous positions, checking ammo. They had enough to last a few days, a week at most. Hopefully help would arrive soon.

**********
Time: 0800 hours

Muntz looked over the window of the bunker. The rebels had stopped attacking about 3 hours ago. Their bodies littered the ground in front of the Palace. Beside him Horca was nursing a bandaged shoulder.

“Can you still fire with that?” asked Muntz.

“Of course I can. I’m not human, my tougher muscles practically stopped the bullet as soon as it broke the skin.”

Horca wasn’t exaggerating, Helghast were much more heavily built than Humans, but they weren’t that strong.

“You sure your armour didn’t help?”

“Well…yeah maybe.”

“How long would you say until the Imperial Armada gets here?”

“Dunno. Could be days, could be weeks. Governor Tarkon probably sent an SOS as soon as the fighting began, so it shouldn’t be too long.”

The two soldiers sat in silence. Five others were in their bunker, all members of the same squad. Two were watching for movement in the streets. Horca looked at Muntz.

“Would you say they’ve been planning this long?”

Muntz looked up. “Huh?”

“Do you think this is an isolated incident, or will more colonies erupt?”

“Don’t think about that, just think about this.”

“You’re not worried?”

“Nah. Our Lord will work it out. Plus, if all the humans rebel…” Munts made sure no human Colonial Police were in earshot, “It’ll give him an excuse to exterminate them once and for all. Cleanse the Empire.”

A bullet smacked into the bunker wall. Muntz checked his gun.

“Here we go again…”

Necronis Rebellion
Captain Barneveld stood in the city Square. He watched as his men threw themselves at the Palace walls, watched them get cut down by gunfire. He snarled. Idiots knew nothing about strategy. He called for a massive retreat through his comm-link and walked to the burned out building which served as his forward observation post.

“Mack, how many men do we have left?” A young man looked up, wearing a stolen Colonial Police Officer’s suit.
“About 1500 hundred, sir. We still outnumber them, but none of the citizens are helping, their all to afraid and have locked themselves in their homes.”
“Damn it. Okay, get our men reorganised. Hand out as many missiles and grenades as you can. We need to suppress the men in the bunkers to allow our men through, and the heavies on the roof to let the tank through. See if we can get in the buildings which are empty. Get some decent view over the defenders.”
“Yes, captain.”

Barneveld was worried. No doubt the Imperial Armies were on the way, and if the Garrison from other cities came to liberate the capital….Then they were in a world of trouble.
------------
The rebels moved quickly as ordered and took up positions in the buildings surrounding the Palace. They began taking potshots at anyone who wasn’t taking cover. A few Sniper Rifles were handed out, but there was no doubting they were under equipped. They had numbers…that was it. As the snipers began opening up, the Hover Tank moved forwards to blow up the gate.

Muntz ducked as a bullet raced through the bunker view port.

“Snipers! On the roofs!”

“Anybody got a shot?”

“No! No field of view!”

Muntz cursed. They just had to keep their heads down. The rebels hadn’t launched a massive attack in a while, maybe they were just low on numbers. His thought were interrupted when a massive explosion rocked the bunker. The tank! Looking over at Horca, Muntz raised his Assault Rifle. There was the sound of an MRL firing three shots, before a crack was heard and the user plummeted from the roof to the ground. He had died trying to kill the tank, but in the end was just about too slow. The tank fired one last shot just before two of the three missiles hit it. The gate exploded inwards, crushing two Colonial Police Officers.

“Get the MG’s up! Keep them back!”

Muntz ran for cover and began firing as the rebels charged on. They saw the gap in the wall and went for it. Horca and Muntz stood side by side, firing a ceaseless hail of lead into the charging Rebels. The two deployed Heavy machineguns opened up, adding to the slaughter. The air was filled with thunderous gunfire.

**********
Inside, the Governor was speaking with Colonel Heinrich von Lausten.

“Can we stop them?”

“Not at this rate. There’s at least a thousand of them and we only have a small amount of men. Hive City Aquuar is sending half their Garrison to help, but they won’t be here for another few hours.”

“What do we have Colonel?”

“About eighty to one hundred Helghast, about ten of which are Elites. Also have two hundred Colonial Policemen, but I doubt if they could do anything right now…there damn near useless in an actual battle. We also have your bodyguard of two Raubën Supersoldiers. But they aren’t invincible. Taking enough fire and their hearts will give out under stress. Once the Aquuar reinforcements get here, we should have another two hundred or so Helghast, with fifteen APCs and at least two Heavy Tanks.”

“Will we hold until then?”

“Like I said, not at this rate. Best bet, get our Elites to move out the back and try and reach the Armour Bay. If the Engineers are still there we may be able to get some tanks to come in from behind the rebels. They caught us off guard, so we only have infantry.”

“Do it.”

**********
“Alright you dogs! Listen up. Colonel’s sending us on a mission. We gotta get to the tank armour bay and get us some god damn armour support. If the techies aren’t there, we need to pilot them ourselves. Any questions?”

The Elites shook their heads.

“Alright then. Let’s go. We’re going out the back. Gotta hope the Cps and Base troopers can hold them off.”

The Elites picked up their Light Assault Rifles, Light Machineguns and Sniper Rifles and headed out.

**********
Horca smashed his rifle but into the rebel’s face, knocking him to the ground. He aimed and pulled the trigger. Within seconds his face was turned to mulsh. The rebels were making it to the gate and were coming in in twos and threes. The Colonial Police had formed a two man deep firing line just behind the gate. As the front rank fired, the second reloaded. The Helghast in the Bunkers kept firing. The Rebels were smart and used their own dead for cover. But there was too many. If they didn’t pull back….This would be over way too soon.

The Rebel soldiers charged on, taking cover behind whatever they could find and firing into the bunkers. But the Helghast fire was too much. As was expected of a disorganised, non-professional army, they broke and fled.

Barneveld was pissed. His numbers were down to about 700. He still outnumbered the Loyalists, but not by much. He had ordered the attacking to stop until they convinced more human citizens to rise up. The City was home to almost 2 million people. He had only begun this war with 2000. He knew that his army was the entire city, not just a small amount of people.
“Mack. Start going around the city. Get me some more soldiers. And take some men with you.”

Barneveld turned to the door. Some young men, between 16 and 22 were standing there, holding some stolen LARs and CP Rifles.

“We want to fight.”

Barneveld frowned. “No way. Not the young ones. Over 18s only.”

“You know that if you lose, this whole city will suffer, not just the adults…”

Barneveld didn’t like it, but he had no choice.

“Fine. But you better be able to use those. Go with Mack, get some more recruits. But no kids!”

Muntz sat in the bunker, holding his gun close to his chest, cradling it. During the last attack they had lost 3 Helghast. They were good soldiers. He peeked over the Parapet to see what was going on. The enemy seemed to have laid off the attack. Glancing over at Horca he smirked. Maybe they’d given up.

“Hey, Lionel. What’s the bet they’re afraid?”

“No bet. These guys are nuts. No telling what they’d do.”

The Colonel entered the bunker, Battle Pistol in hand. His black coat was riddled with bullet holes.

“How are you holding up?”

“Well, sir. Down to about half numbers, most of the out of actions are injured. The CPs set up a barricade in the gate which they’ve taken cover behind. We’re down to half round with this Heavy MG, the other one’s out.”

The Colonel nodded. He peered out the view port to see the courtyard littered with corpses and burning rubble.

“I’ve sent out the Elites. They’re looking to see if they can find some armour for us. At worst they’ll come around behind them with guns.”

Muntz nodded. The Elites were their only hope.

**********
Captain Dietrich of the Garrison Elite moved from doorway to doorway. His squad followed in near Perfect unison.

“Watch the windows, we’re in a populated area, any human could turn against us. And watch civvies casualties.”

His squad murmured with disapproval.

“You don’t really mean it Captain? Watch out for human casualties?”

“Don’t be stupid. We have Helghast living here too. Command won’t care about human kills.”

He pulled up at a corner and signalled his squad to stop. Peering around the corner he spotted a small group of rebels. He turned to his squad mates.

“Okay, Klaus, Dieter. Get into this building here, take Sniper posts and get firing, aim for Captains if you can. The rest of you, on my command we move to kill.”

His men nodded and split up. The seven men with him put their backs against the wall.

**********
Dieter and Klaus ran up the flights of stairs to the third floor. On the way they had to tie up several humans to prevent them alerting the rebels.

“Hey Klaus! I got a good field of fire here. I see two Captains and a Heavy.”

“Okay. You go for the Heavy, I’ll take one of the Captains.”

The two snipers positioned themselves and steadied their sights. They stood for several seconds.

“Three, two, One.”

They Snipers fired.

**********
“Move men move!”

Dietrich’s squad moved around the corner and took up cover in doorways and cars. Dietrich checked his Assault Rifle and flicked off the safety. Aiming down the sight, he fired at the rebels even as they moved into cover and began returning fire.
