It Started Off With A Bang

It could have been any normal day in Riyadh. People went about their business, going from place to place running errands, heading off to work, or just lounging about and enjoying the city. The city was bustling with life, and then suddenly, it went off. There was an immense light, and then a moment that bystanders could only have called an eerie silence. Before it had started though the silence ended and there was an enormous, blast. People in the area began runninghome, running to their cars, or running to wherever they felt safest. Yet, in this chaos, there was a few people running the other way. These people were the Aman
The Aman is considerd by some the intelligence office of Arabicia, and by others it is considered the secret police. The Aman were a select few men and women that had qualified by extremley exceptional scores on the Republican Guard training exit exam. Besides being excellent physical specimens, the Aman also underwent an intense mental and pyschological testing period. The few that remained were the perfect canidates for the position. The few people that headed into the fire were part of this clandestine organization.
Once inside of the wreckage the Aman searched for surviviors. There wee plenty of places to seach, the blast had covered about an entire street's block. Yet the only people they found were the 72 dead. After the sweep for suvivors the Aman took all 'necessary evidence'. What happened after that was unknown. No reports came out about what was found, and nothing was about to be leaked out of the Aman.
After about fifteen minitues Abdul al Nasir came on to Arabician Public Broadcast and gave a very clear message: "People of Arabicia, I come to you with the most grievious of news, today. At 9:42 AM a bomb was detonate in downtown Riyadh. 72 of your fellow citizens were killed. 72 mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends and citizens. This is unacceptable. This is intolerable. We have found evidence in the wreckage that the government of Yemen is behind this. While we are unable to say what evidence has lead us to this conclusion, know that without any doubt this bomb originated in and was detonated by a member of the Yemeni government. As retaliation we intend to execute a full force military strike against the rogue regime."
Within fifteen minutes multiple divisions had been mobilized. The 1st Infanrtry along with the 1st Armor and the 1st Artillery were grouped to form Saud's Army, which was to be lead by Field Marshal Hernet. The operation designated to Saud's Army was a direct march to Sa'dah, a border city, and then to continue to the capital,Sanaa. The Armor division of the group was expected to pave the way for the artillery and then infantry. The hopes were that the Merkunds would be able to drive directly to Sanaa, while the artillery was bombarding forces in Sa'dah and lightening the enemy for the infantry.
While Saud's Army would be travelling the 2nd Air Sector would execute simultaneous missions. The first was Operation Lightning, which called for surgical strikes against military installations in Sa'dah and Sanaa specifically and then strikes against any other military installations that demonstrated activity. The other mission was Operation Thunder, which specififed that the Air Guard was to drop leaflets speaking of the benefits of Arabician life, such as national security, democractic process, freedom of religion, commerce, and most importantly modernization.

Emir Jalal was extremely shocked and utterly disappointed upon hearing news that citizens of an ally had perished in an abominable attack by subversive forces from Yemen. The Emirate lends it full support - despite escalations [ooc: soon to be over] in the Sudan.

The Kingdom of Kopparbergs lends it fully support to the Arabician government and military. We hope you can exterminate the terrorists in Yemen, and introduce democracy and peace to the Yemenis. We assume that you inform us if you need any kind of assistance in Yemen, as an allied we'll do anything to support you.

Sa'dah
The ground of Yemen was proving to be worth more than expected. As Saud's Army made its way into enemy territory it made quick progress. However, once Sa'dah was reached things changed quickly. Sa'dah had been hastily reinforced with troops and supplies, including RPGs and several tanks.. Thankfully for the tank divisionThe Aman was able to warn the Republican Guard before the Armor division rolled through. Instead of sending the Mk-4s in first to attack the Army Base, General Abassan (the commanding officer of the operation) decided that an artillery strike on the Airstrip would be more effective since they could land in more troops if need be and it would be an easier take.
Abassan's plan proved to be a good one. The Air Base was evacuated within several artillery shells from the opening salvo. Abassan decided he would send in the Armor now in order to ensure a base of operations and to get his men out of the open. He went to the nearest tank to find out where the Armor Division's Colonel was."Hey, boy, where's Colonel Lawan?" The young soldier looked confused, Abassan regretted asking him. "COLONEL LAWAN? He is the guy that tells you what to do." The young soldier immeadiatly saluted and came scurrying back with his colonel. "Colonel Lawan, it's my pleasure. I'm General Abassan."
"Sir!" Lawan saluted. He appeared to be a rigid by the book type. This was the best thing Abassan could have asked for. He wouldn't want any other type of soldier leading his charge.
"Lawan, I want you to take that Air Base. Plain and simple." Abassan looked at the colonel for a response, but wasn't given an immeadiate physical response.
"Yessir. I'll move out immeadiatly, sir," Lawan left after that. No questions asked, only an order recieved.
Abassan wasn't disappointed with Lawan's work. He had been thorough. He had gone through all the hangers, buildings, and barracks, looking for something that may be hostile. He found that the air base was eerily deserted. The newest communications log left in the base by the Yemenis explaining it though. The summation of the logs was that no artillery was in Sa'dah and that the only division in the area was a Mechanized Infantry division at the army base on the other side of town. Abassan was not looking forward to the next week of urban warfare.
In the Air
The B-521s screeched off of the runway. It was to be a routine mission, without any expected reprecussions. The Yemenis had a very limited overall budget, and an even smaller military budget. A nation of their size wouldn't be able to sustain a large, modern air force, nor would it be able to have to much in the way of ground to air missile defense. However, that only would account for the Republic of Yemen, Commadant Krizen and his men would soon discover there were other enemies besides the formal ones.
"All right men, we are already clear for fire at my discretion, so I'll give the go a head once we have visual. Over." The commadant spoke cleary and quickly, but still had a faint accent. He had been one of the mercenaries employed by the oil giants when the toppled the monarchy. Krizen had originally flown a MiG as a Soviet pilot, but fled south to Afghanistan when he had the chance. From there Krizen had happened upon the oil tycoon Samson Burke, who had just hit it big. Burke was ambitious however and decided that he would provide security for his refineries personally. He refused to let them be destroyed as his rivals' were in the Gulf War. It seemed like only yesterday that Burke propositioned Krizen with a 'security management job'. Once the new government had been installed Krizen was awarded for having flown for the liberators' air militia and recieved the title of Commadant, the highest honor in the Air Guard.
"Yes, sir!" the men all responded, in unision. The formation was a fairly tight one, comprised of 15 B-521s and 5 escort B-25s. Krizen himself was flying one of the B-25s. Three of the escorts would lead in the front, then the big guys, and two B-25s would hold up the rear, Krizen took the lead role, flying at the nose of the formation.
"Okay men, here's the deal. We have intel saying that there are two military bases within Sanna. Those are primary targets. We also are to hit any militarty personnel caravaning outside of the city, something we should expect to see. Once we have completed those objectives we'll fly towards Sa'dah. En route to Sa'dah there'll be a bridge connecting to sides of a ravine in hte mountainous area near Sanna. I want it gone. We'll continue up to Sa'dah and destroy a military base and land at the airbase. It'll be rocky, landing down there. By then though first infantry should have it locked up. The airbase was considered priority one, and right now they're in a stalemate for the city. We're going to end that." Krizen was ready and rearing, he only worried about the unknowns. The landing was the utmost of his concerns.
The flight went well until Krizen and his men entered Sanna air space. They soon found that new radar signatures were emeging high altitudes. "Men, keep calm. It looks like we have some new signatutes." Krizen turned onto a universal radio frequency and questioned the new pilots, "Identify immeadiatly!" No reply. "Identify!" Nothing. "GOD DAMN IT IDENTIFY!" Krizen's answer came with three air to air rockets. He saw them coming and engaged his planes flare and chaff features. He saw two of the three missiles head down to the ground along with the flare, but the third kept going straight at them. He could see the propulsion of the missile now and it seemed to grow larger. Krizen finally snapped out of his bewildered state and began sharply banking to the left, utilizing the thrust vectoring on the B-25. The missile continued past him and he saw it slam into one of the B-521s. The plane vanished in a shower of flame. The wreckage seemed to hang in the air a moment and then slowly begin to flutter down to the ground.
Krizen didn't have any time to think. Before he realized what had happened, or what he was doing, he had launched a volley of four missisles at the incoming fighters. He soon saw all of the ordanance slowly seperate into seperate targets and then find their marks. No targets remained on Krizen's radar and he finally fell back into the squadron. "Alright men, we'll improvise. We're going to only go for what we need. I want you to take out the Air Base and the Army Base. Other than that nothing. We're going to get the hell out of here as soon as possible." The fighter group slowly begin lowering their altitude, and without incidident reached their targets. "B-521s, attack targets." The B-521s then released about half of the ordanance each on one of two targets, the Air installations or the Army Base. The outcome was the only one that could have resulted. Both military grounds were annhiliated, but the enemy had launched one final, gargantuan volley of missisles. Krizen panicked, he only had one flare left. "FLARES, CHAFF!" He blared into the radio. He fired his flare directly into the heart of the nearing mass and watched it sputter off into the distance. The missiles were approaching quickly from underneath them now. Krizen begin to lose hope, but looked out from his displays and saw more than twenty little red beacons of hope fly at the missiles. Krizen looked back again to see that the defensive measures had done the trick, it looked like they were safe for now. "Alright men, were going back to base."

Sa'dah
Colonel Lawan looked into the skies as he heard the Arabician war planes scream by. All that he head was an enormous sound, and then light. He slowly began blinking his eyes and his vision readjusted. He looked across the city's skyline to see smoke emanating from near the Yemeni Army base. This was the break that Lawan had been looking for, the move that would give his tanks the chance to break the stalemate before it got ugly. Lawan went to the command tower near the air strip to talk to General Abassan.
"General, I think we need to go in there now. This is the optimal moment for a quick assault," Lawan spoke frankly with the General. There was no need for using flowery language in war.
"That was my idea colonel. Artillery isn't here yet and I don't want to lose this chance. That means your Armor is going in there without indirect fire. I'll keep the Infantry on standby, but I can't send anybody with you, we need to keep the air strip so our birds have a nest," Abassan was trying to judge Lawan's reaction, to see if this was what Lawan wanted, but all he could see in the young officer was sheer determination.
"Understood, I'll get my guys out there right now," Lawan replied. He trotted out of the tower and went back t the other end of the air strip. He gave his division officers the go word and they were off. He spoke to the toops over the tanks' radios. "Alight men, this is a simple mission. We go in, eliminate the enemies, and hold our position. Air strikes just hit the base, so hopefully they'll be reduced in numbers and disorganized. I want all ROES enforced, we are going to be staying here for a while and we don't want any enemies, got it?" With that the 1st Armor division was off, speeding towards the Yemeni Army Base at Sa'dah.
The division had only gotten about a few blocks before they were fired on. The problem wasn't the attack, but the attackers. The attacks appeared to be civilian, not military. They didn't have any uniforms and had lobbed a few simple RPGs, but hadn't aimed very well as around half of the rockets hit neighboring buildings or only blew up the ground in front of a tank. Lawan reacted quickly, "Hostiles, civilian clothing, engage immeadiatly," he radioed. Lawan was adept at keeping cool in these situations. He left from his normal main gun position and took up the mounted gun. He came out of the tank and was exposed for the briefest of moments, and he had analyzed the situation correctly. The attacks appeared to be extreme, radical civilians, only armed with RPGs and lacking small arms to attack mounted gunners. Around 20 men were at the intersection. The machine gun made quick work of most of them. The belt feed munitions rang through the gun as Lawan pumped away rounds into the enemy. It appeared that they only would have time for one rocket each.
"Alright, half pace advance. Mounted gunners!" Lawan called out. He slowly saw the main gunners take positions outside the tanks and the drivers begin moving again. The tanks made it another block or two, they were about half way from the base by now, at least. Lawan peered up to a building, quickly scanning the area and saw a window flash open, the shudders revealing a grizzly looking man with a rocket. Lawan unloading twenty bullets into the man. "Keep an eye on the windows men!" Lawan blared. He recieved a grunt of approval back.
The Armor divisions made their way across the town without much further incident, it appeared that whatever resistance was going to be posed would be small, but evasive. Now the only enemy left was the organized type. "Men, ready for engagment. I want all mounted men back inside and maning the main guns." He turned back to see the tanks' hatches close above the main gunners. Lawan went back inside his tank. "Move out," he said simply.
The Armor division slowly rolled within eye shot of the base and saw two observations towers. Lawan aimed his cannon at one and fired. The projectile sailed through the air and landed inside the tower, making the tower appear as if it was imploding. He wheeled about his sights to the neighboring tower only to see it explode. Lawan swiveled back down to eye level and saw a tank peek around the corner, Lawan fired. The tank had driven right into the missile and kept on going through the smoke cloud. Lawan was waiting for another projectile to click into place. He saw the tank fire and could only clinch his teeth. The missile slammed into the front of the tank. The colonel wasn't pleased. He made sure to steady the cannon on the tank's top half and then he pulled the trigger. The enemy's tank exploded and then let aflame. No motion came from it. They advanced into the base.
It was immeadiatly apparent that the air strike had done good damage. He could see where the garages of stored vechicles had burnt down, he could barely make out the husks of the tanks and jeeps. The only mobile units left were the lucky ones to be outside the building. He could see that the barracks had been hit too, Lawan wondered where more enemies may be hidden. The Merkuva rolled on forward to a turn and the offcier could make out a group of tanks next to what must have been some sort of munitions depot or armory. Lawan fired before thinking and saw his projectile connect with another tank. He could hear his men's guns pounding away and saw several tanks emerge from the smoke. They fired another volley, this time none were directed at Lawan's tank. Another round of reply from the Arabician troops and the enemy was gone.
Colonel Lawan's tank drove past where the tanks had been and continued until they started hearing the shouting of Yemeni soldiers. They were arguing over whether to fight or die honorably. Lawan unlatched the tank's top hatch and emerged. "Yemeni soldiers, we have no fight with you. We only seek to avenge what the upper echelion of your government did to us. Lay down your arms. Live with dignity rather than die for false honor. I assure you, The People's Republic will bring benefits to your people."
The Yemenis slowly turned to eachother, they then slowly began laying down their weapons. One finally called out, "You may have the military, but your nation's Arm of Allah is the new threat here."
Lawan was puzzled. There was no way that an Arabician group could be here now unless the Aman had grossly under estimated the Arm of Allah's assets. "Are you sure?" Lawan called out.
"Oh yes, they were here before you. They took the tanks, the weapons, all of it. They had us go out and launch those rockets. They're probably half way to Sanna by now."

Riyadh
Sayid Jallah slowly opened the door to the conference room. He had come around five minutes early for the War Council and was still the last person there. He quickly scanned around to see who else was there. It appeared that Defense Minister Heitz sat at the head of the table with military personnel there as well. He could see General Omet, and surprisingly Commadant Krizen. Sayid had thought Krizen was running air operations over in Yemen. Omet was another one of the generals that was appointed by the people rather than by the corporations. He had been a young revolutionary, before that became fashionable. So once the war broke out people clung to him for tactics and he began a brutal modern, guerilla warfare. He also saw the internal interests of Arabicia represented in the room. Both Samson Burke and Henry West were in attendance and so was Desmond Bausen. Bausen was over more interest now because he was new to the scene, he could have become a high ranking official, but instead choice to follow his dreams and become an avionic designer. He currently was funded by Arabicia and West & Burke. He also was the youngest of the group, still wearing his long hair and stubble. Sayid took his seat across from Desmond and gave greetings to everyone at the meeting. Heitz quickly took the reins.
"So, we have come here today to discuss the current situation in Yemen, and indeed in the whole area. It appears that the conflict will spill far past Yemen. Sistan has threatened to attack, and thus conflict may emerge from the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, and Kuwait. Besides that threat, the Arm of Allah has emerged in Yemen, Oman and Qatar and is currently putting up a greater fight than Yemeni forces. I want to hear what the Intelligence Minister has to say about The Arm of Allah, Sayid?" Heitz turned to Sayid and looked expectantly.
Sayid began,"As well all know, the Arm of Allah has seved as a thorn in the side of the Arabician government for quite some time, since the conception of Arabicia in fact. The AOA's main goal is to create an extremist theocracy and eventually to dominate Arabicia with that same theocracy. As we can see in Yemen right now, they are willing to use other nation's assets in order to take Arabicia. Right now, we are speculating that the AOA will take control of Oman and Qatar using weapons taken from Yemen. We also have reason to believe that Yemeni forces have already been overrun by the AOA in several southern Yemen cities. It is in the belief of the Aman that Sanna will also be taken should we not act immeadiatly," Sayid paused and was interrupted by General Omet.
"So is it in the opinion of the Aman that attacks from the AOA will eminate from Oman once we have taken control of Yemen?"
Sayid stopped and thought for a moment, and formulated a reply,"Well, the short answer is yes. The long answer is probably. The AOA will first attempt to root itself in Oman, perhaps even taking over full control and esatblishing a type of military junta. They'll rule by force and once they've broken the people of Oman they will move into either Yemen or Arabicia." Sayid saw that West had a question. "Mr. West?"
"My question is a simple one. Is there anyway to negotiate with the AOA?"
Sayid grimaced, he appeared that he would deliver that bad news, "No. The groups primary goal is the establishment of a theocratic state in the lands of Mecca and Medina. They will do anything to take control of those two cities, and the whole land of Arabia."
"Then could we negotiate with Yemen at this point? It sounds like they lack all power."
"That would normally be an excellent plan. While we could do that to gain the people's support on the ground, it gives us no real benefit. The only city in Yemen's control now is going to be Sanna, which we can take. Yemen is clinging on to life and will put up a hard fight, but they aren't going to give us their capital are they? I would reccomend the taking of Sanna and then negotiation. We can take the capital, and offer all government officials transport into another country, perhaps an allied nation to Arabicia or they can join us. The government will hand over official control to Arabicia and we then focus on routing out the AOA, of at least AOA Yemen forces," the intelligence minister tensed. The air in the room was quiet, and he was afraid of what the reply to his plan might be.
Heitz paused for a moment and then said simply, "It's a plan. I'll run it by the Prime Minister and Minister Hosseini, but that still won't account for Sistan. What are we going to do about that?"
Sayid breathed a small sigh of relief. His plan had been well recieved judging by Heitz's reaction. He replied to the Sistani issue, "We have allies. That's all we have on the situation. Sistan just got out of a take over, they'll either want time to reform or they'll simply continue and try to expand into us. Our advantage is that we still have several division positioned for defense and we also have foreign aid offered to us. As far as we know Sistan is a rogue nation. We should attempt to avoid the war, but let's not back out of Yemen." This time the room immeadiatly recieved the information well and began talking quietly amongst themselves.
Heitz cleared his throat, "It looks like we can call this meeting to an end. I thank everyone for attending and hope we can meet through better circumstances next time." The attendants of the meeting rose from their chairs and began exiting, Hetiz beckoned Sayid to him. "You did well, the Prime Minister will want to personally offer his thanks. Come with me."
