The Royal Cottish Navy

The Royal Cottish Navy is the military branch which is responsible for protecting the Cottish territories and its interests on the sea. It is the most powerful branch in the Royal Cottish Military.

History
Since the beginning of the Cottish nation, its military strength has been in the sea. In the Viking days of old, the kings had a system called the leidang, where the country was divided into districts where each district was responsible for constructing, crewing and maintaining one ship of war. In the event that the leidang was to be mobilized, a network of fires on top of mountains would be lit. When the districts saw this, they would activate the leidang and await the orders. Over the 11th to 15th century when the leidang was in use, it was activated several times and managed to repell every single invader. However, by the late 15th century it was antiquated.

In the early 16th century, the first origins of what we consider the Royal Cottish Navy was founded when King Harald III ordered a fleet of thirty warships be built and maintained in order to "protect the Realm from invasion." This fleet was the origins for what would become one of the most powerful naval forces on Earth. Over the years, the Navy would evolve and expand in light of new discoveries, technology and tactics.

During the attempted invasion of Cotland by the Dictatorship of Sunnmore in 1942, the Royal Cottish Navy, then consisting of six battleships, twenty-nine cruisers, fifty destroyers, thirty frigates and twenty submarines fought the largest naval battle in Cottish history against an enemy matching its strength. The battle of Doom Bay lasted two days until the Cots were able to defeat the Sunnmorians. It was not long until the Royal Marines were landed on the Isles of the Outcast and the Dictatorship of Sunnmore was implemented into the Realm.

It is this proud legacy that today's Navy carries with it in its ongoing mission to protect the Realm and its interests, with force if necessary.

The Carrier Battle Group is one of the principal formations around which the Royal Cottish Navy is centered. The battle group can completely devestate an enemy surface unit or land unit with its array of weaponry, ranging from aircraft-delivered ordinance to long-range anti-shipping- and cruise missiles on the vessels. A carrier battle group is completely self-sufficient, and is usually commanded by a Kommandør (Captain). There are a total of fifteen carrier battle groups in active duty.

Strategic Submarine Group

The Strategic Submarine Group is a force which consists of submarines only, and is as the name implies responsible for carrying out strategic operations. This is the political correct naming for the ballistic missile-carrying submarine force which the Realm of Cotland has available. There is only one Strategic Submarine Group, but its location is highly classified. The Strategic Submarine Group is commanded by a Flaggkommandør (Commodore).

Royal Marines

The Royal Marines falls under the operational control of the Navy, and is reliant on the Navy for transport and assistance. Therefore, the Royal Marines' organization is listed here.

The Royal Marines are responsible for defending the territories of Cotland and its interests along the coast, for spearheading any offensive advance against the enemies of the Realm of Cotland, and for providing protection to Cottish embassies around the world.

History
The Royal Marines can track its origins back to 1632 when the King ordered a formation of naval infantry be created to help defend the ships of the Navy from enemy boarders. The infantrymen were to be armed with a musket and a saber, and help defend the ship against any enemies. The requirements from the Marines haven't changed much since the early days, as the Marines were required to be fiercely loyal to the King, be well trained and disciplined soldiers and be aquainted to infantry tactics and combat.

The Marines have been involved in virtually every conflict the Realm of Cotland has been involved in, and have proven their courage and superiority numerous times. Due to the strickt selection process and hard training, the Cottish Royal Marines are among the worlds finest, most disciplined elite fighting forces in the world today.

Organization
The Royal Marines currently consists of some fourteen divisions, complete with artillery and armored support, and a number of smaller units. Each of the divisions consists of nearly nine thousand combat Marines in one infantry brigade and one vehicle brigade, and is capable of assaulting enemy shores and defeating the enemy.
