The Yunakania Problem (Open MT... maybe)

OOC: I placed the "maybe" in the title since I seem to have this trouble with RPs that when I get into them, people tend to shy away from them and I don't get to play (Even the big boys want to play in the sandbox). Anyway, more to the point, I just wanted an opportunity to play out a small, limited conflict to A) Showcase my latest military hardware and B) Actually get to play out a conflict and finish it without the enemy just up and surrendering before the action starts.

Now, on with the show!

Satya, Yunakania - 16:45 Local Time

The weather was clear as Heinrich Lakov drove through the crowded streets, a bus filled with passengers sat next to his small sedan as the sun's rays poured down over the city and its people. Street vendors and food carts lined the sidewalk which was as busy as the main street, although unlike the main street which was populated by government workers and other office workers trapped in their cars, the sidewalks were filled with tourists, most of them Aequatians who had arrived at the start of the summer months to enjoy the more mild climate by comparison to their home nation. Lakov turned his attention back to the road as he turned on the air conditioning and rolled his window up, ignoring the mass of foreign tourists.

The nation of Yunakania was located not far from the first Aequatian continent, Aequatius Prime, only being around 2,200 kilometres to the Southwest, the isalnd nation was covered in jungles which were potmarked with a number of large urban sectors along with more than a dozen large-scale refineries that exported exclusively to the Aequatian Republic, as its fuel needs were great until its own domestic biodiesel and ethanol production capabilities could provide the majority of fuel for the nation. This trade agreement allowed the nation of Yonen to become an economic superpower compared to many nations of similar size.

The nation of approximately 42 Million had modernized almost overnight when Aequatian fuel companies discovered rich oil deposits both in the deep jungles and off the coast. Although the nation was rich, it was culturally and politically divided with the Protestant German minority holding much sway over the majority Southeast Asian Muslums, who blamed the Aequatian Republic of keeping the "infidel" President in place and maintaining their lower status in society. The Yunakanian fuel industry was a large bone of contention with the Islamic population, who felt they did not benefit from the funds that the Aequatian trade pact provided.

Republic Fuels Heavy Refinery Alpha-One, Yunakanian Emerald Jungle - 03:55 Local Time

Muhari Aziz sat with a group of gunmen in his car as he drove up to the refinery's control centre. He breathed deeply as he nodded to the three others as he shut off the engine of the car and exited before making his way to the guard post. The guard rose from his seat and smiled, a cup of coffee in his hand, "Morning Mr. Aziz, what brings you here so late?"

Foreign devil! Thought Aziz as he smiled and replied, "I forgot a few reports I needed to go over for my team meeting tomorrow."

The guard nodded, "Okay, just swipe your card as you go in," He said motioning to the magnetic card reader at the door.

"Of course," Muhari said, producing the card from his coat pocket and dropping it onto the ground near the guard's post. The guard leaned over to pick up the card and it was the last he would see as the silenced pistol in Aziz's hand dropped him to the ground in a small pool of his own blood. He then waved to his car and the three others exited, one with a handgun and sports bag, another with a shotgun and the last weilding an AKM rifle.

From there on, they had free reign throughout the building as they killed the technicians and managers that were in the building until they reached the control room. From there Aziz, with his knowledge of the facility's workings being one of the chief engineers, would begin opening valves and shutting others, forcing the fuel in the transfer pipes and holding silos to spill onto the jungle floor, and with Allah's guiding hand, ignite, destroying the refinery's capabilities. However, their work was interupted as the heavily armed security response team arrived and began fighting with the gunmen with the shotgun and rifle. The pistol-armed man worked furriously with the bomb they had brought with them in the bag as the gunmen at the doorway fell back, killed by gunfire, Aziz fired his own pistol at the security forces as they entered the room and the bomb beeped a short pattern, "Allahu akbar!"

"Holy Mother!" Shouted a young lieutenant as he got up from his terminal and raced to Colonel Gale Tracy, the nightwatch officer for the monitoring station, "Ma'am, we've got something going on, fires in the jungles of Yunakania... One of the big refineries has gone up, completely wiped out!"

President Kurt Moltke sat at his desk and began reading over reports that had been delivered by his aide, all of which arrived inbetween the time he left for his chambers and his arrival that morning. Most were the usual briefings sent by the Aequatian Republic Intelligence Agency and were promptly ignored until he reached the file folder containing the satellite images and report on the fire which destroyed the largest and most advanced refinery in Yunakania.

President Moltke sat at the head of the Cabinet meeting table, waiting for his chief advisors to arrive after calling for a meeting to discuss the matters and situation within the nation of Yunakania. He knew of the problems the country had and was one of the advisors against President Saltzman's adoption of the nation under the Aequatian Sphere of Influence, but he knew that logical arguement was no match for economic bonuses. Moltke prepared a report for President Saltzman on Yunakania when he was the head of the ARIA, so he was privy to all of the ongoing problems of the nation, including the poor security at the military bases and the sectarian conflict that was ongoing between the Muslum groups and the Protestant government. However, he knew that the recent development involving the refinery would push the government to act even more harshly against the people which would in turn, only create increased violence until the Islamist militias unite and finally overthrow the government. It was then that the advisors began to arrive and his train of thought was halted, Only a matter of time before our boys are dying there too..

Satya, Yunakania - Day 02, 9:15 Local Time

Heinrich Lakov grumbled as he baked in his little car, Called into the office on a Saturday, it better have been a large fire! He thought as he navigated through the groupings of tourists. Lakov worked for the National Ministry of Fuels as a regional manager and had received a call that morning of the fire at the Alpha-One Refinery, which was under his jurisdiction. He had heard little on the television news as he hastily dressed and ate breakfast, but he had a forboding feeling that things would not be pleasant once he arrived at the office. He was right.

Things were in total chaos, his management team was assembled for a meeting once he had arrived on his floor, "What is the destruction of the Alpha-One Facility going to do to our fuel exports?"

A young man in a wrinkled short-sleeved shirt and messy hair answered him, "We're looking at a decrease of at least thirty three percent of our total export amount, plus the loss of fifty percent of our national reserve."

"There is no way we can meet our quotas for the Aequatians, they will surely demand the funds back for the lost oil," Said another, "It would ruin our economy!"

"People!" Interupted Lakov, "I'm sure the Aequatians will be understanding if we explain the situation to them... What exactly is the situation?"

"Well, Sir, from the reports constructed from the members of the security response team, it was Islamist rebels who took control of the facility, sabotaged the controls for the transfer pipelines and caused the spill, which ignited before the firefighting teams could prevent it and then destroyed the control centre with a bomb," Explained the messy hair kid.

Lakov shook his head angerly, "How did this happen though, I want to know how they gained access."

"Apparently, it was Muhari Aziz, the chief engineer in charge of the management of the transfer and storage of the heavy and light fuels at Alpha-One."

"How did the background checks not prevent us from hiring this traitor?"

"We overlooked it since we were desparately short of engineering personnel, plus he was educated abroad at Arrio University in Aequatio."

"What about rebuilding the facility?" Asked Lakov as he nervously downed a glass of water with a pair of Aspirin pills, "How long would it take to get it running again?"

"A minimum of thirty six months and even then, we don't know if it will be worth it," Explained the kid, "The fires are still raging in the production fields, several dozen firefighters and refinery personnel are already dead from the disaster and the fires could continue for weeks. It could end up burning out completely, making the area useless to us for drilling. That's not the end of it either, we would still need to purchase a number of specialized equipment from foreign companies to even reconstruct the facility since we don't have the capability to manufacture it ourselves, which will be even more difficult since we've lost the income provided by the oil. Fuck, we won't even have enough to supply our own national interests properly, with half of the reserves gone, our agricultural and heavy industries suffer, not to mention the income required to fund the military's increased 'required' equipment upgrades and other spending."

"So what am I supposed to present to the Minister when he drops by before meeting with the President?" Asked Lakov, his face in his hands.

"Unless there's some sort of miracle, this nation's oil money fantasy is at an end," Said the kid, "Our first priority is to extinguish those fires and salvage what we can from the undamaged silos."

Satya, Yunakania - Day 02, 11:30 Local Time

Televisions in electronic stores, restaurants, bars and gyms were all tuned to the same news programme as it came on, presenting the country with the usual anchors, the blonde Elsa Kruger and the dark-haired Sasha Fedor.

Kruger was the first to speak, "Good morning and welcome to the Midday Report, our top story today is the fire which had engulfed the Alpha-One Oil Refinery and Storage Facility in the Emerald Jungle last night which has already claimed over three hundred dead and several billion Markes in damages, especially to our nation's oil reserves. The damage is already starting to show as gas stations around the country have nearly tripled their prices from those they were yesterday and many even rationing their supplies to customers..."

It was then that Fedor interupted her, "I'm sorry Elsa, but I have a late breaking detail in the developing story, a recording was sent to the station manager by e-mail by a group named the 'Free Islamist Movement' that has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Alpha-One Facility and has named the four men as martyrs 'for their service in the name of Allah.' The four men have been identified by authorities as Tariq Najif, Yousef Najif, Mohammed Al-Zabar and Muhari Aziz, who was also one of the chief engineers to the facility. We will keep you updated as the story continues."

----------

Around the nation of Yunakania, Muslums took to the streets with photographs of the four men in celebration in their strike at the heart of their "infidel" government. National police forces were stretched to their limits as they attempted to contain the people that mobbed the streets and evacuate foreign tourists at the same time. Many Islamist leaders held rallies, praising the attack and motivating their followers to continue "the struggle against the atheist rulers" and "take control of lands that properly belonged to Allah's chosen."

Molniya, Yunakania - Day 02, 14:45 Local Time

The streets had become packed with demonstrators as they continued to celebrate the Free Islamist Movement's attack on the Alpha-One Refinery. Local police forces hurriedly rushed Aequatian tourists from the city's fine beaches and hotels to waiting busses and helicopters that would bring them to the airport and seaports in the capital of Satya so that they could be evacuated home. It was estimated that there were nearly 150,000 Aequatian citizens currently in Yunakania, as it was the peak time for tourist season and rumours were abound that the Aequatian Republic's military forces, including an aircraft carrier, would be arriving soon to begin ferrying people home.

Things became chaotic though when a group of youths began to harass tourists as they attempted to make their way back to their hotel. It was only a matter of time though, as emotions were now running as hot as the climate. Stories of tourists being harassed and even assaulted started to flood the police channels, including an attempted stoning of a couple by a mob that was already causing damage to vehicles in the street and storefronts. Police at many times were cornered and used CS Gas to break the mobs enough to escape while others used non-lethal ammunition to stop dissenters as they threw projectiles such as rocks and bottles at police lines and vehicles.

Civil unrest spreading, foreign civilians evacuated, increasing oil prices, noticable muslim activity. High recommendation: intervene with permission.

END REPORT

A quiet woman entered the darkened room, and walked up to the dais in front of the council. The projector started and an image of Yunakania appeared. The woman pointed her laser pointer at a point on the map and began to speak. "As you can see here, a major oil refinery in Yunakania has exploded, destroying close to half their national reserves and severly reducing their capability of producing oil. Fires are widespread in the area, and several of the local firefighters have lost their lives. A preliminary report from the Intelligence section points to rebel Muslims that are angered by their lesser status within the nation. Aequatio civilians have been evacuated, and there seems to be a possibility of military intervention. We need to decide on a course of action regarding this."

The Council debated amongst themselves for near an hour before they reached a decision. The High Councellor called in his aide and gave him detailed instructions, before the aide left.

Soon after and expedition fleet left port and began the long journey to Aequatio, servicemen pulled from off-duty to fill the ships. At the same time a message was sent to both the Aequatio and Yunakania governments.

To the esteemed governments of Aequatio and Yunakania,
We have watched in interest the developments within Yunakania and wish to offer our aid. We believe that we can hold strategic buildings within Yunakania from further rebel action, depending on various variables. We also offer an assistance with the evacuation of Aequatio and other foreign nationals that may still be in the nation. We also understand that Aequatio may be worried by this development do near their shores and so offer our help to them too, in whatever way they think necessary.

High Councillor Ellias Aubec

Meanwhile a highly secret message was sent to the leaders of the rebel Muslims:

We have observed your actions and are interested in having further dealings. This may form itself in the form of troops, military hardware, medical equipment and anything else you deem necessary.

While we appreciat your nation's offer of military forces being deployed to the nation of Yunakania to aid in the evacuation of our own citizens, we feel that a military presence, especially foreign, would only cause much difficulty for the situation. The evacuation process has worked quite well so far and should the situation require it, the Aequatian Republic will be deploying its own forces to the island nation under a flag of neutrality in order to hasten the evacuation.

Meddling outsiders! Thought Ghoddard as she read the reply before hacing it sent, This is practically an internal affair, it is of no business of anyone but the Republic's."

Ellias Aubec looked down in disgust at the letter he had dropped in front of himself. So they wouldn't even consider help, let alone give us any sort of permission to do anything. Very well then, we shall see to it that the other plans come to fruitition. Ellias pressed a button on his desk, and a short while later an aide walked in.

"Transmit this back to the Aequatio government, and send this to Military Command." The aide took the proffered pieces of paper and walked out.

At the Military Command Center, all activity was centered on the letter from the High Councillor, and hte grave implications therin. It ordered the immediate insertion of several crack RAVEN squads into Junakania to link up with rebel cells and attempt to wreak even more havok on the nation. Also, discreet buildup of forces in the waters around Yunakania was to take place along with land forces being deployed on the mainland as secretly as possible. A second message was sent to the Muslim rebels.

We have followed your progress closely, and after our last offer of help we have decided to help you immediately. There are currently various military forces coming your way shortly, and an advance force of some of our best spec ops will join up with you. PLeasure doing buisness.

Meanwhile an official message to the Aequatio government was sent:

We feel that the deployment of foreign warships in such a close proximity to the nation would only destabilize the current situation and place the large number of Aequatian nationals within Yunakania in undue peril. Emerald Jungle, Near Molniya, Yunakania - Day 04, 01:05 Local Time

Omar Kassad walked through his command camp as militiamen prepared their weapons, a number of Fabrique Nationale FAL and AKM assault rifles, M60 machineguns and RPG-7D anti-tank launchers. His worn woodland pattern fatigues and combat boots tredded softly against the jungle floor as he picked up extra magazines for the MP5 submachinegun slung over his back. He took a seat in the passenger seat of one of the armoured Nissan pickup trucks, "Forward!"

The young man wearing fatigues and a black hood nodded as he started the engine and led the convoy of a dozen or so vehicles away from the now-abandoned camp and through a trail in the jungle. In the bed of the truck was mounted an aged ZPU-1 23mm anti-aircraft cannon with a number of similarly dressed gunmen as the vehicle bounced over the ground. The grouping of vehicles made their way to the military armoury located just outside the city of Molniya. It housed one of the Army's armoured units and a large amount of military equipment, such as government-issue G36k rifles, Fabrique Nationale MAG machineguns and thirty six T-80U heavy tanks plus fuel, ammunition, food and clothing. The fleet of trucks halted as they reached the treeline and the rebel gunmen disembarked and moved forward towards the outer fence.

An army VBL armoured car drove along the perimeter, a crewmember monitoring the outside through thermal goggles, it drove slowly before it exploded violently as the HEAT round from a 104mm recoilless rifle struck it and sent it into the air. Explosions ripped through the fence, planeted by the militia sappers, and the mass of gunmen advanced towards the barracks. Each barracks structure had a team of militiamen kick open the door and sprayed the bunks that held sleeping government soldiers with 7.62mm rounds from their rifles. They moved through the barracks before moving onto the arsenals and entering, after dispatching of the few guards. Rapid-fire cannons and recoilless rifle rounds poured into the base as the rebels slowly took control from the government soldiers, those that surrendered were simply killed where they stood, which led to soldiers simply fleeing the base and the advancing gunmen. Kassad grinned as he approached a group of army soldiers that had surrendered, he switched the firing mode to full automatic on his weapon before spraying the troops with 9mm bullets. Within an hour, the base had been cleared out of its ammunition and vehicles as the FIM militia disappeared back into the outlaying jungle.

Ellias was leaning back in his chair musing about some governmental problem, when an aide came with his tea and letters. Placing them in front of Ellias, the aide retreated from the room quickly, eager to be out of the presence of his boss. Ellias smiled before reaching forward for his tea. Sipping it he flicked through the various letters, stopping at the letter from Aequatio. Opening it he began reading, and when he reached the end he slammed his fist on the table, spilling his tea over his desk.

"God damn freaks! How dare they tell me that my ships will 'destabilize the current situation'. Gah, the damn arrogance! Gerad! Gerad where the hell are you?"

THe aide came rushing in slowing at the sight of the spilt tea and enraged boss before him.

"At last! Get the Military Command here immediately. We need to move forward with our plans."

The aide rushed out, his mobile phone already in his had as he made the requisite phonecalls. Within the hour the Military Command was assembled in front of the High Chancellor. Without a word Ellias handed the letter around and watched in silence as the men read it.

"Now you've read it, and the implications it means. We must move forward with our plans. We must prove that we will not be bullied. Organise 3 fleets to undergo 'war games' relatively near Yunakania, and able to respond quickly if needs be. Also move our teams in as soon as they are ready so we can begin the destabilisation of the Yunakania government. If those rebels cannot be bothern to reply to our letters, then they just can't get co-ordinated help."

Without a further word the men left, each gearing themselves up for any upcoming developments. By the end of the afternoon, several fleets were heading for an otherwise unremarkable patch of sea for a series of war games. The RAVEN Squads being preped for their mission were sent from the fleet laying just outside Yunakania waters, towards the countryside just outside the main city. They would be coming in almost undetected thanks to the height and speed and vehicle they were travelling at/in.

Colonel Tracy walked down the hallways of the building as she returned to her office from the cafeteria, a cup of coffee, sandwich in plastic wrap and chocolate bar in her hand, and used her free hand to pass her access card over the magnetic reader. With a quick beep from the machine and a slight push, she moved inside the monitoring room and made her way towards her office. A lieutenant approached her with file folder with "Intelligence" stamped on the side with a number of satellite images stapled to the side, "Ma'am, we have a problem."

Immediately the colonel set her lunch down on the desk and took the folder, she looked over the images and the attached captions that matched, "So Phoenixius has moved a number of vessels for 'war games' in proximity to Yunakania," She said to no one in particular as she continued reading, "Heh, Intel thinks its bullshit, just like anyone else with a brain."

Ebon Tor, Magna Casa, Aequatius Prime - 14:30 Local Time

The meeting with the Joint Chiefs was quiet as the officers began to enter, President Moltke sat at the head as always and looked down at the file folder sitting on the table in front of him. Everyone was seated within minutes as Moltke spoke, "So is it my understanding that we have a nation which thinks it can muscle in on our national interests?"

There was a chorus of agreement before the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Krist Von Mann, leaned forward, "Sir, the forces that have been sent already to partake in evacuation missions will not be enough to repel a foreign invasion should they choose to move against the island, which all of the scenario projections are positive of."

Navy Chief of Staff Fleet Admiral Albert Jenkins continued, "Mister President, the fleet assets we have deployed will just barely be able to handle the ferrying of the 150,000 citizens there, they would be useless in attempting to halt an invasion, we must deploy additional vessels to the area, especially submarines and carriers and maintain a safe perimeter around the island."

Moltke shook his head, "No, if we do that, it will only invite them to make the first move and get their forces ashore before we even draw the line in the sand," The stress of the situation could be heard in his voice along with the ravages of insomnia, "Joint Task Force Phalanx will need reinforcing should the need arise, but it has not done so yet."

CoS Navy became irritated, "Sir, you can't mean that you're going to place our men and women in a dangerous situation!"

"God damn it, Admiral, our people are already in a dangerous situation!" Replied Moltke as he calmed himself, "If we push too hard, the Yunakanian government will lose face, and the rebels will use that to push even harder and make bolder moves to take control of the country."

Lieutenant-General Preston Mercier, Military Intelliegence Chief of Staff, interupted quietly, "Sir, reports say that the Free Islamist Movement has already raided a number of government arsenals and stolen a large amount of weapons, ammunition and armoured vehicles. Government forces have been reduced due to desertations and defections," He explained, "We just managed to get the last of our citizens out of Molniya before it entirely fell to FIM tanks and militia. It is only a matter of time before they try to take the capital."

The meeting continued as the political and military leaders of the Republic made their decisions.

RNS Sabre, 180km East of Yunakanian Coast - 16:10 Local Time

Sergeant-Major Clint Howe sat in the ship's mess hall as he looked over the operational plans for his platoon should it be required to go ashore. He had been moved from one of the company command staff to platoon leader after their lieutenant had been injured in a training accident not twenty four hours before the unit was called up for deployment. So now, instead of advising commanders, he himself was one and had a more direct responsibility for his decisions. For the most part, they would be extracting civilians from the area, nothing too difficult and rather routine, although they would still have full support forces provided by the small naval group employed with them. Above deck, a pair of Marine F-7A Predator strike fighters launched off the flight deck's ski ramp and into the sky as they flew their combat air patrols, they were part of a number of aircraft aboard the light carrier along with CH-47F Super Chinook and MH-20 Shadowcat helicopters which would be evacuating civilians to the Sabre which would be flying them out back home by C-2A Greyhound transports.

THe leader motioned to them and they moved off towards the city, kepping away from roads and buildings. They made good time, and they were shortly in the outskirts of the city.

"Alpha team locate transport for us. The rest stay here."

A group of 4 men broke off and disappeared around the corner, searching for transport. The other squads hunkered down in the location they had chosen to wait in. It began to rain, but that was all the better for the squads as it meant that there would be fewer people on the streets, and less witnesses. Taking out his electronic pad, the leader brought up a street map for the city they were in, and plotted a route to the main TV and radio stations. THey would strike them at the same time, and before they destroyed them they would broadcast a message to the citizens of Yunakania.

A short while later there was the sound of a vehicle approaching. It was Alpha team returning with 3 black SUV's. Stopping just in front of the hideout, they got out and motioned for the rest to join them.

"Sir, we've got these vehicles, one for each squad. We liberated them from a governmental parking lot - they are modified with armour and bullet proof galss. The works."

"Excellent. Alpha team, take a vehicle to the radio station and wait my signal. THe rest of us will head to the TV station. Move out."

WIth that Alpha team got back into one of the SUV's and drove off, heading straight for the radio station. THe rest of the squads got into the remaiing two vehicles and headed for the TV station.

OOC: Satya is the capital and largest city in Yunakania, I figure that would be the one your soldiers landed outside of.

IC:

Satya, Yunakania - 19:30 Local Time

The rain was coming down as hard as it normally did for the city as a pair of Yunakanian Army soldiers manned their post, a roadblock leading into a government sector of the capital, one which housed a number of government corporations, including many of the main media outlets like newspapers, radio and television stations. Private Hugo Kant stood at the sandbag bunker that had been placed in the middle of the street, the rain ran down his poncho and onto the pavement at his feet. He slung his G36k rifle over his back as he attempted in vain to light up a cigarette while his partner, Corporal Sasha Blackov watched the street, his MG36 light machinegun ready with its 100-round Beta-C magazine and composite bipod. Their post orders were simple, like all of the other posts along the perimeter of the center sector of Satya: Complete Access Control and Restrict anyone without proper authority to enter.

RNS Sabre, 60km East of Yunakanian Coast - 20:25 Local Time

Howe stood on the flight deck of the ship as his platoon assembled behind a group of CH-47F Super Chinook transports and smaller MH-20 Shadowcat helicopters, they were preparing to head ashore to one of the extraction zones outlined in the leaflets dropped over the area after a pilot of a passing F-7A fighter took notice of a mob of people. The Marines would be transported by the Shadowcats and provide security while the larger Chinooks landed and took on people to ferry back to the carrier. Within minutes, the soldiers were aboard the the entire fleet of helicopters, scorted by the new AH-72 Viper gunships, was in the air and inbound towards the coast.

The vehicles headed in towards the center of Satya. They were taking different routes so as not to alarm more people that necessary. They also kept within the posted speed restrictions - it would be stupid to have to kill a cop just because he was pulling them in for speeding. It took them about an hour before any of them had a problem. Alpha team came across the road blocks first. Without warning it appeared from the rain, and they couldn't stop or otherwise they would have looked guilty. As they drove up to the road block, the rest of the team preped their weapons ready to take out the 2 guards silently. The team stopped the vehicle just at the roadblock, and they opened their windows ready to kill all who stood in their way.

Satya, Yunakania - 20:05 Local Time

Corporal Blackov leaned back against the low wall of the bunker as he grimmaced after watching the SUV pull up to the post from the rain, "Christ, Hugo, go see what this asshole wants."

Private Kant muttered, "Fuck," as he walked slowly over to the SUV's driver-side window, his rifle sitting lightly in his hands. He knocked on the window, "Yunakanian Army, no one is permitted to enter this sector of the city without proper identification..."

While the rain fell outside the city, Omar Kassad hopped down from the turret of a stolen T-80U tank, which now had its former insignia covered with the green banner of the Free Islamist Movement. Almost a hundred tanks along with militia forces were now encircling the city for their assault on the Presidential Home located in the center of the urban mass. Kassad gave a sinister grin as he looked over the city and pointed to the center, "Go now, for Allah!" He shouted in Arabic to the rebels he had gathered. His orders went out to the other forces located around the city and as one, the tanks started to move as the assault began.

While ground forces prepared for the attack, militiamen had been sent to the coast, directly in the path of Aequatian aircraft as they moved inland to the designated evacuation zones. Many of the rebels were armed with SA-18 shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles and watched the skies for the arrival of the Navy and Marine helicopters, they would track them and wait for the aircraft to head back out over the water before shooting them down, knowing full well that they would be filled with civilians at that time.

"Yunakanian Army, no one is permitted to enter this sector of the city without proper identification..."

The driver looked at the guard distastefully. "Yeah? Here's my identification." ANd pointed his gun at the poor guard and fired point blank into the man's face. At the same time the rest of the squad fired at the other guard leaning out of the rain, splattering his blood across the wall behind him as he slumped to the ground. As the bodies started cooling, the squad drove off, turning around the bunker and headed towards the radio tower. One of the squad in the back, turned his radio on, and called the other squads. "Beta squad, this is Alpha. We came across a roadblock and neutralised the guards - be careful, there'll probably be more in your direction. Otherwise, mission is going good."

Alpha team get driving in the rain, windscreen wipers going full blast. They turned the last corner, and stopped just outside the front of the station. They waited a few minutes, watching the front entrance, before getting out and heading for the front entrance. They all had their rifles holstered, but their pistols were easily to hand. They opened the door and trapised in, walking up to the guard who was startled to see people come in, especcially 4 men dressen in black jumpsuits.

"Evening. We are here for the 9:00 appointment. We have a show to broadcast."

Satya, Yunakania - 20:25 Local Time

The guard at the station was startled by the armed men that had entered the lobby, "What are you talking about?" He said as he leaned over to pick up the telephone.

Outside in the streets, the commander of a government-controlled T-80U tank had watched as the black SUV streaked down the street, the sergeant lowered himself back down into the turret and tapped his gunner on the shoulder, "Did you see that truck go by?"

The crewmember nodded, "Seemed like he was in a hurry."

The commander took a moment to think before rising from the turret and signalling to the sergeant in command of the infantry squad and their BMP-2 armoured carrier, "That looked rather suspicious, get your people ready to move."

"Yes Sir!" Came the infantry leader's reply through the heavy rain as he moved to get his squad of soldiers into the back of the armoured vehicle. Within minutes the carrier was moving down the street with the tank in tow as they drove down the street that the SUV had passed by earlier.

----------

Kassad sat in the commander's seat of his own T-80U tank as it entered the suburbs of Satya, the nice houses lined the streets as the armoured vehicles and cargo trucks drove quietly through the neighbourhood. He wanted to turn the 120mm gun against each of the houses and kill each of the infidel families that slept inside, but he knew he did not have to, as soon as they took control of the capital, they would leave of their own accord.

OOC: You do realise that the SUV's are travelling at the posted speed limits so as NOT to cause anybody to look at them twice.

IC:

"What am I talking about? You have no idea?" The member of Alpha team looked incredulous, "You mean no-one told you? Jesus. Well we're a special ops team here to talk over. Goodbye." And with that, shot the poor man in the face with his silenced pistol, the phone halfway to his head, a suprised look on his face. "Lock the doors, ensure that we are warned if anyone tries to get in. The rest of you begin placing the charges, I'm going up to the control room."

"Alpha team, this is Beta. We are approaching the target, whats your position?"

THe Alpha team leader, looked around before replying, "Mission is as planned, the Phoenix has landed."

THe leader continued up the stairs, heading for the 5th floor. Once there without interruption, he walked into the recording booth and motioned to the radio presenter to come out. As the man left the booth during a song, the leader spoke to him, "Your relieved. There is a new power here now. Your show is finished." As the man looked about to reply, the leader let out an exasperated sigh and shot the man in the heart. As the body slumped to the ground he entered the booth and slipped the recording they had been supplied with into the machine and waited for the song to end. "Alpha, how is the security?"

"Going well. Front doors are locked and the rear doors are already locked. The babies are being hidden as we speak - by the time we leave there will be nothing for them to use."

"Excellent. Playing recording now."

The song ended, and the leader pushed the button to engage the recording:

People of Yunakania, hear us. You have defiled yourselves, and we have come to purify you. This is but the beginning. We shall be bringing you signs from the heavens, from the sea, from the earth itself. Unless you repent you will be forever lost. The true path is there for all to take, but few are willing to even look upon it. Do not be lost: look, absorb and then walk the path - do not fear, for our wrath is more terrible than anything you have ever seen before. You have been warned. Look to us in 3 days whereupon you shall see our next sign.

The message was put on loop, and the team left the building out the back, the timers on the bombs set to go off 2 minutes after the recording first started.
