1800 Alt-Hist RP

Or, as some might call it, Earth: Improbable.
This earth is set in 1800, in a history where Christianity in Europe is limited to a few last bastions against Islam, which accounts for most of the worlds non-Pagan population now.
During the middle ages, some crucial battles were lost in the Balkans, Poland and the Holy Roman Empire were overwhelmed and the rest of Europe, preoccupied with fighting itself, quickly followed, except for Spain and the Papal States, which proved difficult to take. England and Northern Europe were generally left alone as attacking them proved difficult.
The overall result is that the New World was left to develope on its own, and that little colonization took place, Europeans managed to gain footholds here and there, the Carribean mostly, with scattered colonies in the more sparsly populated areas.
After 150 years, the American powers have developed into strong nations, capable of holding off colonial interests by the more expansionist powers of Europe.
The map certainly has a more medeival feel, many European states that we are familiar with simply dont exist, or are much smaller. Spain in particular is split between Castille, Leon, Aragon, Navarre and Muslim Granada. France is partially controlled by the British...its all quite confused and should make for a good RP.

Plenty of states are still open and RPers of all skill levels are welcome, and we could use people with moderator experience to assist in helping newer people on the forum, as well as people who know about the time period and would be willing to help work out the technology avalible in such a radically altered world.

I don't understand all of this. I have never heard about Denmark-Ireland. And I thought that France was a superpower during the 1800th century. I mean 1800 century was the start of the napoleon era

Note the 'alt hist'. This is basically an alternative world where, in the middle ages, Islam beat Christianity back to a few states in Europe, and many European countries stayed in a sort of 1400's-ish size/configuration, with strong nobles and so forth.
On the map, what is the name of the nation that controls southern California? Is that Byzantium's colonial Empire or just something unamed?

Its actually China's attempt at a colonial empire. Of course, not having much experience in the matter, the Chinese explorers simply hopped off the boat on the first large landmass they came to and said, "Welcome to new China!", not realizing of course that 'new China' was totaly worthless and right next to people who still enjoy mass human sacrifice on one side, and the most boring people on the planet on the other.
We can start any time you like :P

Refering of course to the Aztec and the North-West fisherman tribes. ;)

People, join this RP! Now! Go!
Here I will post a list of all those nations involved, most of which are open to your rule. Join soon, the New Crusade is beggining, side with the Christian kingdoms of Italy and Spain and ally with the Holy Roman Empire and their allies glorious fight, or join as Muslim France, or any other Islamic state, snd fight the war that you should have finished all those centures ago, and unit Europe beneath the Crecent of Muslim rule.
The Americas:
The Mississipian Union:
Similar to the United States, a union of various states under a strong central government under a king, elected by 'state' leaders.
High population density in the southern areas.
The Aztec Empire:
Ruled from Tenochtitlan, exercicizes little control over other states, which are kept in line through force and made to pay tributes of people and resources yearly.
Low tech, but large army. Prefers to capture enemies alive.
The Iroquoi League:
Democratic federation, still has many nomadic people in it, most industry and non-nomadic population lives on the coastline.
No standing army, but can call up large militias in the event of war.
The Tillamook Federation:
A loose federation of tribes headed by the Tillamook.
Has a good coastal navy.
The Mayan States:
A group of Mayan tribes that rebelled against the Aztecs in 1729, strong individual states, but most are intermarried and bound by other ties.
Long time hatred of the Aztecs, who frequently raid them for human sacrifices.
The Incan Empire:
A strong central government, with strong local rulers as well. Ruler is 'elected' by the state leaders, but is usually hereditary. The Incan Empire has the largest population in the Americas.
The Incans have a large population of both Christians and Muslims, who tend to get on fairly well because the Incans tend to flay people alive when they dont get along.
Europe:
The Kingdom of Castille:
A Christian kingdom which spends most of its resources on exploration and colonisation. They have a 'friendly rivalry' with Leon.
Maintains a large merchant marine of large, but mostly unarmed ships.
The Kingdom of Leon:
Similar to Castille, but focuses more on trade than colonisation.
Leon has a large and effecient navy, with some of the best ships out there.
The Kingdom of Navarre:
Navarre as a state is famous for its mercenary forces, who are willing to fight for anybody, Christian, Muslim of Pagans, as long as they have money.
As a mercenary center, Navarre has a large and effecient military.
The Grand Duchy of Aragon:
A local naval power, Aragon is bound to the state of Leon by treaty and marriage, but remains independant.
Aragon is noted for its steel and ironworking, producing some of the finest weapons and and craftwork avalible.
The Kingdom of Portugal:
The major rival of Leon and Castille, it balances the two states by maintaining a large colony and a good sized military navy, although not as large as either Castille or Leon's forces.
The Emirate of France:
One of the few European states to retain is ancient line of Royal families after the Muslim Conquest. The French monarchy converted to Islam and was allowed to keep its place after intermarriage with the Ottoman line.
France is posssesed of a large population, and thus, a large military.
The Kingdom of England:
England is considered the wannabe rival of Spain by most. Its ideas of long-range naval warfare proved fruitless when the Ottoman navy destroyed the English at Gilbatar in 1698.
England is still attempting to catch up to the Spanish in terms of technology, but maintains a strong navy, but a small army.
The Kingdom of Burgundy:
Burgundy revolted from the main part of France when the French monarchy converted to Islam, quickly siezing its own land and establishing a military, Burgundy became a formidable state despite the constant French attacks.
Burgundy has recently begun adopting rifles into standard military service in skirmisher squadrons.
The Imamate of Piedmont:
Piedmont is moderatly famous as one of the most tolerant Muslim states, it has a large population of Catholic Christians and is considered the 'negotiator', as a nuetral third party between many states.
Piedmont is pacifistic on most occasions, but fights fiercly when invaded. It has strong trade ties with many countries though.
The United Kingdoms of Corsica and Sardinia:
A local naval power, and considered by many as the naval arm of Rome. They have fended off many attacks by the Ottomans in their sea raids on the Papal States.
As mentioned, they maintain a strong navy.
The Papal States and Principality of Rome:
The Papal States consists of most of central Italy, and the Principality of Rome is the controlling state. The Pope maintains limited direct authority, but is a strong force through most of Europe and the Christian world.
The States must maintain a large and strong army in order to fend off Ottoman and other Muslim attacks, their military consists of many voluntiers from across the Christian world, regardless of race.
The Sultanate of Sicily:
Sicily is a strong industrial Islamic state, with a moderatly sized population and srong army.
Sicily supplies much of the Muslim world with arms.
The Holy Roman Empire:
Highly centralized, but still a coaltion of semi-independant states, the states of the HRE respond to the authority of the Emperor, but are not required to obey him.
The Holy Roman Emperor is viewed as second only to the Pope in terms of power over Christians in general, but the Holy Roman Emperor is selected BY the Pope, and not a hereditary position.
Individually the German states are relativly week, but united they pose a threat to many states.
The United Kingdoms of Denmark and Ireland:
Denmark-Ireland is one of the strongest, and most tolerant, of the Christian states. It maintains a number of northern colonies, despite its small population, it has a good navy and a decent army, its naval dominance of the northern Atlantic, North Sea and Baltic go almost unchallenged.
Denmark-Ireland has a fairly large population of Muslims.
Muscovy-Novgorod:
A collection of united Princedoms, Kingdoms and Khannates that maintains the largest land empire in the world. Has a strong rivalry with the Ottoman Empire and is almost constantly at war with them.
Muscovy-Novgorod has the largest military in the world except for China, but that military is spread over a huge area.
The Byzantine Empire:
A puppet of the Ottoman Empire created to appease Ottoman Christians. It is ruled, in theory, by an Emperor, who reports to the Ottoman Caliph.
Seen as a refuge for Christians in Muslim states, Byzantium has a large population.
The Kingdom of Venice:
Venice dominates the Meddeterranian in terms of trade and naval force, it also has a strong mercenary army in order to fend off the Ottomans.
Venice is proud of its trade and naval forces, it is also a scientific center of Europe.
Asia:
The Ottoman Empire:
Arguably the strongest nation in the world, the Ottomans have a vast Empire, a huge navy and a strong military. Its only weakness is occasional internal strife in the form of revolts by the Arab and other minority populations.
The Ottomans hold tremendous authority over other Muslim states, and the Caliph of the Ottoman Empire is seen as the 'Pope' of the Muslim world.
The Emirate of Persia:
Persia has a strong, if somewhat centralized, military and population. It also produce some of the worlds finest scientific instruments, and its glass, gold and fine metal workers are famous.
Due to its position between many strong nations, Persia must man its borders almost constantly, and must keep its military in top shape.
The Shahdom of Afghanistan:
Afghanistan is a remarkable state in many fashions, its enlightened approach to pagan religions makes it a target for Persian aggression on occasion, but the Afghan talent for defence thrwarts most aggressors at the doorstep. Afghanistan has a large population of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and other faiths.
The Afghan military is a pioneer of the 'guerilla warfare' techniques.
The Chinese Empire:
China stands alongside the Ottoman Empire as one of the greatest states in the world, with its strong all-rounder military, vast population (nearly 300 million), and huge industry. China has a few colonies, even.
The Chinese army is formed into two distinct sections, the standing professional forces, numbered at about 60,000, and the vast militia forces that compose most of the army. Unfourtunatly, China cannot supply all of these with modern weapons, so many are issued spears or bows.
The Shogunate of Japan:
Japan is a relativly isolationist state at present, it accepts forigners, but doesnt like them. The Japanese Army is famous for its cavalry, its horsemen are some of the most skilled in the world.
Japan, as an island nation, is extremly easy to defend and has yet to be succesfully invaded.
The Kingdom of Siam:
Siam has a large population, but outside of most areas, is generally primitive and 'uncivilized'. Most of the population is Buddhist, but Islam has a foothold here.
The Siamese army is skilled, but not armed to modern standards, prefering bows in many cases. This is not a disadvantage, however, in the thick jungles of Southeast Asia.

Here, oh those who have not yet joined, is an expansion of the above summary of the world as it is. Join this RP, it will be fun! I promise!
Asia:
The Sultanate of Pakistan:
Pakistan enjoys a strong position on the coast of the Indian Ocean, although it has little naval power, many trade ships stop in its ports for resupply and repairs if they wish to avoid Ottoman interests.
Pakistan is home to many sects Islam, sometimes they dont get along too well, but they often unite to drive out invaders.
The Peshwait of the Maratha Empire:
With a population seconded only by China, The Maratha Empire is a powerful state in Asia, albeit not as strong as China, but still a presence. Maratha is primarily Hindu, and has a strong antipathy towards Muslims.
Maratha's military is well equipped, but its methods of recruiting date back to medieval times, with 'knights' responsible for recruiting private armies when called upon by the Peshwa.
The Nawabate of Oudh:
Also known as the 'granary of India', this state is fabulously rich, possessed of a large amount of very fertile land. Like its European counterpart, it has a large army, but not a mercenary one, using professional troops has kept Oudh safe from invasion for some time.
Oudh's treasury continues to expand, thanks to the large populations of the states around it, Oudh exports vast amounts of grain. Oudh has little interest in military conflict and thus does not often bother to annex states militarily if they displease it.
The Nawabate of Bengal:
Another wealthy state, Bengal trades extensivly with European and Middle Eastern states, as well as the Americas. Under a string of succesful leaders, Bengal has vastly improved its own infrastructure to incorporate paved roads in many areas.
Bengal has a large fleet for an Indian nation, both military and trade, but it cannot match most European states for quality and size.
The Sultanate of Mysore:
A militarily strong state, Mysore is known for its rocketry, it has produced rocket weapons of astonishing accuracy and power after a number of clashes with European and other colonising powers. Mysore is fiercly independant and is willing to fight anybody who thinks otherwise.
Mysore has very strong nobels called Arasus.
Hyderabad (Nizam State):
Hyderabad is a nominally Muslim state, but has a prominient Hindu population. Its leadership is traditionally Muslim though.
Hyderabad does not do much trading, but instead is a relativly isolationist state, prefering to deal with its fellow Indians rather than outsiders.
Africa:
The Berber Empire:
Representing the far right wing of Islam, the Berber Empire seeks to re-create the ancient 'Great Caliphate', dominating everything from Spain to the Aral Sea.
The Berber military is mostly horsed or camel'ed archers and raiders, but it does have a decent force of infantry which is mostly used for defensive purposes, as infantry cannot traverse the vast distances between places quickly enough for the Berbers tastes.
The Berbers refuse to trade with Christian or Pagan nations, but will tolerate independant Muslim nations, if only until the 'Christian threat' is wiped out.

So, anyway, Japan has joined the Christian Crusade for some random reason, apparently they have 'issues' with the Muslim/Buddhist Siam. Of course, how Europeans plan to 'assist' Japan with Siam is a bit of a mystery to me, considering that the Muslim nations will definitly give Christianity a run for their money, and have a very good chance of winning this war.
The Incans, of course, will be content with ignoring the silly barbarians as they squabble and scratch at each other.
We could REALLY use some Spanish players though, and an active Berber Empire.
