I am trying to build a navy around something like 40 carriers, 20-25 battleships, and 15-20 missile submarines. Can I have some advice on the numbers of cruisers, destroyers, fleet submarines, supply ships, etc. for this force?

First off, you're gonna want to up some of those starting numbers.

Second, the number of other vessels ultimately depends on the use of your navy. If it's defensively centered, you'll have more cruisers and destroyers for defense. If it's offensively centered, you'll have more submarines out front.

Also, supply ships will often depend on the type of ships you have, and their weaponry. Nuclear powered ships will need fewer supply ships than those that run on conventional fuel. Likewise, ships that use smaller weaponry will be able to carry more ammunition. This will also depend on the size of the ship, as that will affect storage.

What it'll come down to is making up your mind what your navy is for. For mine, I tend to center around capitol ships that have high offensive power, and then build a fleet of cruisers around them for protection. And therein lies the problem. This game is built around what you want. So, figure out your mission, your types of ships, and build off from there.

(Also, if you put more secondary weapons, ie: smaller guns, on your big ships, they'll need fewer escort vessels)

They should go down if you want any chance at realism...

also do not forget supply ships.....you can have the greatest navy in the world, but if your men arnt fed and your guns have no ammunition, that extra tech wont mean shit.

I would say a ratio of:
1 carrier:2 battleships:7 cruisers:10 submarines:20 destroyers:20-30 smaller warships:5-10 supply ships

Not sure if thats realistic, but hey it looks good.
