Coming Together: The Great Revolution

"And so, brother, you too wish to join under the banner of the warriors of Allah and His prophet?" An Imam asked the warlord on the left of the group gathered in a crescent around him on the floor of the Great Mosque in Mogadishu. The other warlords before him had agreed to combine their forces under one flag after many years of civil war and now came the day when their country would reunify.

"I will, under your rule, wise Imam!"

"Then it is settled. The nation of Asherton is united once more! Rally the troops, it is time we consolidated our territory!"

============================
(Mogadishu, Asherton)

T-34s and T-54/55s, which had been broken down due to the lack of parts within each individual warlords camp, moved once more after the Imam had taken power as Asherton's ruler. Ammunition was distributed in what now amounted to ample supplies, petrol for the vehicles was being delivered on a more regular basis, and the militias were forming into a true army. This was week six.

"Brothers, I believe it is time we turned our attention to our neighbors," The Imam started to speak amongst the gathered warlords (now Generals) as they sat around a strategic map of the area surrounding Asherton. "We must spread our Divine Revolution from Asherton into Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti. We will hold immense influence over the entrance to the Red Sea and bend it to ours and Allah's will."

"Allah willing," the senior-most warlord, General Aziz Abdullah, stated. "I will alert our cells in those countries to begin operations immediately."

It started with a simple protest held in the capital of Djibouti. Within two hours, hundreds of thousands of people had gathered in the streets, demanding that the government step down in the name of Allah. Bottles and rocks were thrown, and as time passed, the more and more bottles became molotov cocktails. Armored vehicles that attempted to break up the riot were knocked out of commission by armed rebels, carrying RPGs and molotov cocktails. The crowd surged into the legislative building and declared the government defunct and that, as per Allah's will, would hand the country over to the Imam of Mogadishu... the Divine Revolution had begun.

Intelligence operators monitored foreign news services and the alarming movements against democracy within the regions around the Red Sea were made priority reading for the president's office.

President Moltke arrived at his office door and once behind his desk, he was bombarded with a number of reports that required his attention. The movements within the Red Sea region made him concerned, but he was already worried with the situation growing within Mossada and a number of other places around the world. After a quick phone call, a force was prepared and currently en route to the troubled region to monitor the situation and evacuate any Aequatian nationals who would be in the area.

Sergeant-Major Clint Howe sat in the ship's mess hall as he looked over the operational plans for his platoon should it be required to go ashore. He had been moved from one of the company command staff to platoon leader after their lieutenant had been injured in a training accident not twenty four hours before the unit was called up for deployment. So now, instead of advising commanders, he himself was one and had a more direct responsibility for his decisions. For the most part, they would be extracting civilians and refugees from the area that wanted to go, nothing too difficult and rather routine, although they would still have full support forces provided by the small naval group employed with them. Soon enough they would arrive.

Aequatian Republic Air Force B-12A Vanquisher bombers, under instruction from the ARIA and Psychological Operations Command, flew in over and dropped low-open canisters that rained leaflets providing instructions on where to go for evacuation from the country and the care packages that would be provided to them if they decided to leave the troubled nation. Silently, the bombers slipped out over the ocean to meet with their tankers for the journey home to their bases, their mission complete. Now it was only a matter of time for the Marines to arrive and take those who were willing to go.

We only would ask that your people take care to preserve the other folk - believing or unbelieving - as you prepare for whatever assimilation you intend. Eritrea

Another country, another riot. However, instead of sending troops to quell the riot before it could blossom out of control, the country decided to attempt to stop the one in Djibouti by sending what little of its armed forces across the Djiboutian border. While fighter planes geared up to assault Djibouti and bring it back under the control of its previous government, the capital of Eritrea was engaged in a standoff between rioters and police.

What happened in Djibouti was copied in Eritrea. The country's parliament was toppled by rioters and replaced with a Revolutionary Council supportive of the Divine Revolution in Somalia. Within hours, the council voted unanimously to cede control of the country to the Grand Imam of Mogadishu, followed by the official announcement that Djibouti's council also ceded control to the Grand Imam as well. In as little as a week, Asherton had grown up along the Red Sea, and now turned its attention to Ethiopia...

============================

Ethiopia

While Eritrea and Djibouti were easy to acquire, Ethiopia presented an entirely different set of circumstances. Its military wasn't small, its government was very stable, and it had a sizeable Christian population. As Asherton's tanks began to approach, aircraft began loading up in Eritrea and Djibouti for air strikes. The time for Ethiopia's absorption was coming...

Dear friend,
I notice that you too are at war with the forces of chaos. Unfortunately, I also notice that your military is rather lacking. Because we have a common foe in the forces of chaos, I believe that it may be a wise investment to donate some of my own military hardware to your forces. Perhaps after you can restore order to your nation, we can engage in mutually beneficial trade and research.

"Hmm, all of this attention... it can't be good for the Revolution if we keep getting noticed by larger players," a warlord noticed as several junior officers were busy redrawing the maps.

"Well, the Revolution won't survive without help, and if we want to accomplish our immediate goal of taking over Ethiopia, we'll need help," another warlord noted. "I'm in favor of accepting the Sistani offer for military equipment. Considering we only have a handful of tanks and very few aircraft, we'll need all the help we can get."

"It is Allah's will that we succeed here," The Grand Imam spoke up. "Send a message accepting their aid immediately. In the meantime, we must force a wedge between the Christians and Muslims in Ethiopia and get them to fight. A civil war will weaken them for us to be victorious without much of a fight."

"Yes, Grand Imam..."

It didn't take long for the first Sistani aircraft to begin landing at Djibouti. Two dozen F-5Es were the first to land, their Sistani roundels painted over with tan and brown. It would be up to the Ashertonian forces that would be getting the new aircraft to paint the new ones. Shortly after, Sistani propeller driven attackers and light bombers showed up, still clad in their factory yellow paintjobs. These too lacked roundels.

After a few days, two dozen more F-5Es landed along side still more new piston powered aircraft, and were followed immediately by a small convoy of freighters packed with tanks, ordinance, and small arms. The convoy was lead by the two carriers Cirrus and Cirrocumulus, with several of the improvised cruisers and destroyers tagging along.

Perhaps the most important shipment to the Horn were the Sistani military advisors and trainers. They would help the Ashertonian forces use their new equipment to the best effect, as well as offer suggestions on how to best advance the ongoing military campaign.

"I've called this meeting to discuss the next phase of our operations," The Grand Imam said in his war room, what usually was the central prayer area during peacetime at the Grand Mosque of Mogadishu. "With us tonight are our Sistani brothers. They will assist us in our battle plan preparation, seeing as this is not going to be nearly as easy as Eritrea or Djibouti." The warlords greeted the Sistani advisors and sat down at their usual posts around the strategic map.

"It is my plan, using Sistani transport aircraft that are being delivered, to paradrop an entire division of airborne infantry onto Addis Ababa as soon as the rebellion starts up," The Imam continued. "With Jafar 3 and 5 missiles that are being shipped, we will conduct a rocket bombardment just prior to the airdrop utilizing pre-positioned airborne units in the surrounding volcanic mountain fields. We will also call upon our Sistani brothers to take out the tv, radio and military communications towers surrounding the city coinciding with the missile attack. With the confusion of the situation, our airborne troops will drop in and overwhelm the Ethiopian forces protecting their capital. The rebels will then take control of the legislature, form a Revolutionary Council and then turn over control of their country to us. Do our advisors have any comments before we begin deliberation?"

"It is certianly a sound plan." commented one of the advisors. "I will issue the order to our naval forces at Djibouti to move into position to launch air attacks and missile attacks."

At Bandar Abbas, another group of the improvised Sistani warships was leaving port. Within a few days, two more carriers and their escorts would be on hand to aid the Ashertonian forces.

Over two weeks, the Asherton 1st Airborne Infantry Division trained and practiced for its drop into the area surrounding Addis Ababa. Meanwhile, tensions continued to flare between the Christians and Muslims in Ethiopia as sleeper agents began causing isolated attacks throughout the city against its Christian inhabitants.

At the end of the two week period, the isolated attacks began to take the form of more and more dramatic attacks as Muslims began pouring into Menelik II Ave. in front of the Presidential Palace. After five hours of intense chanting and protests, molotov cocktails began to be thrown at police and military personnel gathered to keep the peace. The military fired into the crowd to disperse it, forcing the rebels to take shelter in nearby buildings as they continued their assault.

AK-47 fire and RPGs began firing from rooftops and windows at military and police personnel and vehicles, pinning them down. Within minutes, the rebels had secured the road to the airport and were in the process of securing the hospital on Churchill Ave. and Grand Market Area when the Sistani began the opening phase of Operation Green Lion.

Prepositioned units began firing their Jafar 3s and 5s at Addis Abba, timed to hit around the time the Sistani aircraft would take out the local transmitters. The transport aircraft flight that dropped off the rocket artillerymen would soon be dropping in airborne infantry. So far, the timetable was going as planned...
Sistan
10-08-2006, 07:45
*BOOM!*

The first of the military transmitters had been hit by a ship launched cruise missile.

*BOOM!*

A second transmitter was taken out.

*BOOM!*

The third missile, however, missed its mark due to targeting errors, slamming into a school instead. Several more missiles impacted in the city, some hitting their targets or close enough to get the job done, others missing their targets completely. As quickly as it began, the missile barrage ended. Instead of the sound of missiles, the sky was filled with the scream of jet engines as Sistani F-4Es, F-14As, and MiG-29Ks arrived over the city to provide topcover. At the moment, neither Sistan nor Asherton had proper AWACS aircraft, so the F-14s were pulling double duty and filling the AWACS role as well as the air superiority role.

Following several minutes behind the jets, the Sistani attackers and light bombers came armed for close ground support and strikes on any remaining transmitters in the area. With their rotary engines humming like a swarm of bees and propellers cutting through the air like hot knives through butter, the Sistani aircraft began their assault, strafing and dive bombing as the battle began.
Asherton
10-08-2006, 08:03
Transports filled the skies as the first paradrop brigades began their drops into the city. Because of a targetting area, instead of winding up on the outskirts of the city, wound up within the city. Several men plummeted into the ground because their parachutes failed, others were hit with machine gun fire and fell to the ground in a lifeless heap. Those fortunate enough to survive made their landing and ran for cover inside of the buildings as the Jafar 3s and 5s landed in the city, creating mass panic as they hit residential buildings, a hospital on the north end of the city, and one even striking the Presidential Palace itself.

The rebels, seeing their objective set ablaze by the attack, rallied and began pushing the military back towards the Presidential Palace. Pinned against the gates by the airborne infantry and rebels, as well as being strifed and bombed by Sistani aircraft, the Ethiopian soldiers admitted defeat and surrendered enmass.

Within an hour, the Presidential Palace was secured and the Legislative Branch replaced with a Revolutionary Council. It was expected that within hours, the Revolutionary Council would hand control over to Asherton. Asherton and Sistan were both victorious in the Battle of Addis Ababa, but now faced the increasing threat of Christian rebels continuing the fight in the more remote areas of the country. For those that didn't submit to Allah's Will, pain and misery would follow.
Sistan
10-08-2006, 14:25
During and after the battle for Addis Abba, the Sistani aircraft stayed over the city until they were winchester or low enough on fuel to need to return to their carriers. Once back on the carriers, the pilots were quickly de-briefed whild their aircraft were re-armed and re-fueled for a second sortie. However. now that the battle for the city was over, the sorties would be fewer and include far fewer aircraft, and be split among the four carriers that cruised along the coast in the Red Sea within the protective embrace of their escorts. Eventually. Ashertonian aircraft that had been donated to the Imam's regime would take over for the Sistanis as more and more Ethiopian airfields were siezed. The carriers, however, would remain in the area until their presense was no longer needed.

Sorry for the lack of reply, but we have been busy planning military action against the infidels in Ethiopia who dared to defy their people's cry for the Divine Revolution.

We do not require your assistance, but will keep in it mind later.

===========================

With the current rush of revolution dying down, Asherton asked that the Sistani stop their air campaigns so that they could weed out the Christian rebels in Ethiopia. If they needed air support, the Sistani were still in the area and would probably continue to be so for the short term while things in Yemen began to heat up.

Throughout Asherton, industry began to kick into high gear as resources poured in from its newly acquired territory. Mines opened, the fields were plentiful, and Ethiopia's recent droughts would become a thing of the past with the Imam's new irrigation project.

Things were looking good. For now, the Divine Revolution would rest, but would probably revive when the time was right.

As requested, the air campaign stopped. However, Sistani jets still flew to Asherton on a regular basis. Sukhois, MiGs, and Mirages, all with their roundels painted over, were flown to Djibouti's airport for transfer to the Ashertonian forces. Still more aircraft landed, these ones trainers. Transports arrived next, carrying supplies to help end the famine in Ethiopia and allow the construction of new factories in Asherton. Tractors, bull dozers, back hoes, dump trucks, and cranes. Just about anything found in a young boy's sandbox was shipped to Asherton, as well as heavy and highly technical equipment. Sistan's defense industry could not possibly provide arms for both nations, so the Ashertonians would have to create their own industry, relying on the donated military hardware in the mean time.

"Revolution?! Bull-fucking-shit!"
Revolutionary Leader Đào Thị Cam stared at the TV screen, which showed the Ashertonian invasion of Ethiopia. The Khmer foreign minister, Proum Sokha, stood above the TV, the same indifferent expression he always wore on his face.
"Well, what the fuck kind of revolution? An imperialist revolution? The two words are completely contradictory!" Cam fumed, "These 'revolutionaries' are imperialist pigs! Support must go to the Ethiopian rebels!"
"But...they are Christians, not socialists," Proum said, "What if they set up a state that is just as much a farce on revolution as this new Asherton is?"
"It doesn't matter, when imperialism rears its disgusting head, the Democratic People's Republic of Indochina must be there to stand against it," Cam said, "We have some Type 56-IIs that can be spared, right?"
"Yeah, but how to get them to Ethiopia?" Proum said.
"Dammit, you're right, I never thought about it," Cam said, biting one of her nails, "Oh well, nothing to do about it. Just send our condemnations for now."
