The Royal Cottish Army

The Royal Cottish Army is the military branch responsible for defending the Cottish territories and its interests on the ground.

History
The history of the Army can trace its roots back to 1628, when the first regular army was formed by King Christian IV of Cotland. Before this, there had been only irregual militias which had been called up when needed and been discharged when the fighting had ended. This era ended with the introduction of six infantry regiments, which heralded a new era for the Cottish military might. By 1800, the army encompassed twenty infantry regiments and seven artillery batteries, a powerful force in the cold, mountainous Cottish Realm.

The great military restructuring of 1905 saw the creation of a larger, more modern army with modern weaponry, tactics and uniforms. Over the next century, the Army was constantly restructured to suit the needs and the modern tactics and weaponry that emerged, before finally in 2000 it was restructured to its current structure.

The ranks of the Royal Cottish Army are as follows:
Generals

Infanteridivisjon (Infantry Division)

A Cottish infantry division consists of primarily motorized infantry, supported by towed tube artillery and a battalion of main battle tanks. These units operate on a simple doctrine of advancing quickly towards the enemy, heavily supported by the tanks and artillery. Once they are within reach of the enemy positions, the infantry will dismount and engage the enemy. The infantry division operates extremely well in both rural areas and in urban environments, and also reasonably well in mountainous areas. The infantry division consists of six infantry regiments, each consisting of two infantry battalions, one artillery battalion and a support battalion, as well as a tank battalion, a military police battalion, an air defense detachment, a UAV detachment and a psychological operations detachment. In all, an average infantry division consists of 15,809 men and women, of which 9,848 are fighting personnel and 5,324 are logistics personnel. An infantry division is usually commanded by a Generalmajor (Major General).

Panserdivisjon (Armored Division)

The Cottish armored division is a unit which is focused around the mighty battle tank force which make up the majority of the fighting vehicles in the unit. With six hundred tanks and hundreds more of armored vehicles to support them, the armored division packs a heavy punch. The doctrine is relatively simple. The tanks will advance against the enemy in superior numbers and always with heavy artillery support. For this purpose, the armored division is supported by four batteries of heavy howitzers (203mm) and four rocket artillery batteries, as well as some twenty normal howitzer (155mm) batteries. The tanks will basically deal with the enemy, which has been softened up by the artillery, and destroy him. The armored division is put best to use in areas with vast open areas, such as steppes or deserts, but can also be used in more terrained areas. It is not recommended to operate within an urban environment unless it has plenty of infantry support. An armored division consists of four armored regiments, two artillery regiments, two logistics regiments, one combat engineer battalion, one military police battalion and a UAV detachment. An armored division is usually commanded by a Generalmajor (Major General).

Fallskjermbrigade (Paratrooper Brigade)

The para brigade are intended for being dropped behind enemy lines in the eve of an invasion to destroy or secure high-value targets and vital areas, and for doing their utmost to prevent the enemy from reaching the beachhead to repell an invasion. The airborne are also ideal for urban combat and for acting as peacekeepers. They are highly trained and highly disciplined, making the para brigades an elite unit within the ranks of the Army. The soldiers within are primarily infantrymen, but have advanced training within among others, but not limited to, infantry tactics, demolitions, heavy weapons and reconnaissance. The paratroopers can be identified from normal infantrymen due to the slightly different uniform pattern and the high-technological equipment. The para brigade is an autonomous unit which can operate without constant resupply, although supply drops are necessary if combat is to be sustained over a period of time. A para brigade is usually commanded by a Brigader (Brigader General).

Helikopterbrigade (Aviation Brigade)

The role of the aviation brigade is to provide large army units with a aviation support element, both in terms of close air support (attack helicopters), reconnaissance support (reconnaissance helicopters and UAVs) or resupply support (transport helicopters). The aviation brigade provides all that to an army force. An aviation brigade is usually attached to a corps-sized force, and is usually commanded by a Brigader (Brigader General).

Kampingeniørbrigade (Combat Engineer Brigade)

The combat engineer brigade is a vital part of any Cottish corps-sized unit. With the clear ability to both create defensive positions, create and clear minefields, breach enemy positions, et cetra, the brigade is vital for a successful invasion and defense. The multitude of equipment within the combat engineering brigade allows the engineers, who are trained in among others, but not limited to, construction, mine warfare, close combat, equipment and demolitions, to complete their mission with great efficiency. A combat engineering brigade is usually commanded by a Brigader (Brigader General).

Luftvernbrigade (Air Defense Brigade)

An armed force is particularly vulnerable to attacks from above, it be in the form of aircraft, helicopters or missiles. With this in mind, the Cottish Army has attached one air defense brigade to each corps-sized unit to complement the organic air defense assets in each unit. This additional unit consists of four anti-aircraft artillery battalions, two point defense battalions and two long range SAM battalions, supported by two combat support battalions and commanded through a central brigade headquarters. As with all other Cottish military units, the air defense brigade uses the encrypted two-way datalink system to share information with all other Cottish military units in the area of operations, allowing the Cots to use all assets available to track down and kill the enemy. An air defense brigade is usually commanded by a Brigader (Brigader General).

CSS-brigade (Combat Support Brigade)

"An army marches on its stomack", the old saying goes, meaning that without supplies, an army stops dead in its track. That is why a combat support brigade is attached to each corps-sized unit, to complement the organic support elements in each individual unit. With not only large trucks, but also a medical element attached, the combat support brigade can deliver a lot of supplies to the units, keeping them fighting. A combat support brigade is usually commanded by an Oberst (Colonel).
