Kerberos Defensive Systems Model 14 Modular Assault Weapon System.
Mod.14 MAWS.
With the XM135 not being accepted into Izistani service, and the M118's in service aging rapidly (to say nothing of the performance of the 5.56x46mm round) forced the Armed Forces to complain to the defense contractors about the need for a decent assault rifle.
With the struggle for weapon design (everyone and their uncle were submitting schematics and opinions) one small company from the colonies, previously known for their body armor and infantry deployed UAV's, had lured a number of disfranchised weapon designers into its fold. What they produced was the Mod.14 MAWS and its subsequent acceptance into Izistani service shocked the older contractors.
The MAWS has some trademarks of Izistani weapon design. M1913 rail systems are attached liberally, the weapon is easy to field strip, and special attention has been payed to make sure the damn thing works under the various condition that combat offers. But it does have some differences, the bullpup design (also used by the M118, a Izistani produced SAR-21) has been improved by the use of the forward ejection system also used by the Isselmere-Nielander L17, Russian A-91, and the Fabrique Nationale FN 2000 (previously left handed soldiers had to use a modified version of the M118 with the ejection port on the left, which was a lot of fun for supply sergeants, the ejection system features a telfon coating, you do not want the cartridge to get stuck). The capability to launch “bullet-thru” type rifle grenades has been incorporated into the design, although the HK79 under-barrel grenade launcher has been retained as Izistan does not employ rifle grenades frequently. Recently the HK79 has begun to be replaced with a modified verison of Fabrique Nationale's EGLM and a pump action 25mm grenade/shotgun launcher from The Northern Expanse's Raven Munitions Industries.
The weapon is chambered in the new 7.25x42mm round (which is a better man stopper then the 5.56mm), which can best be described as a return to the British .280 round . It can of course, be chambered in a variety of other calibers, some good examples would be 6.35x47mm Sarzonian, 6.8x43mm SPC, or the Russian 7.62x39mm. Unlike the XM135, the weapon uses conventional cased ammunition, typically brass or another metal although the Armed Forces are looking into polymer casings. For the carbine and SFMOD, the 7.25mm case was necked up to 9mm for better stopping power and short barrel ballistics.
The action of course, is one of the most important parts of a weapon, hence the extensive research done by Kerberos. The action is based off that of the reliable AR-18, a much better design over its AR-15 family predecessor. Using a gas piston operated rotating bolt, it is far superior in performance and reliability to that of the M16's gas impingement system The gas adjustment system used on the FAL is also present here for added reliability in theaters where the action could become dirty and a solider wouldn't have the time to stop and clean it. The upper receiver is composed of stamped sheet metal with machined trunions, while the lower receiver is made of polymer. Instead of a single gas piston, the rifle uses two, like the AK-108, for additional reliability and to reduce muzzle jump during full automatic fire.
The firearm features three firing modes: semi-automatic, two round burst, and full automatic. The magazines are made of polymer and can be loaded from chargers, they are mainly semi-transparent(so a soldier can tell the amount of ammunition in a magazine at a glance, the polymer construction also means that the magazines can come in any color), and they can be clipped together to aid in reloading under combat conditions, as in the SIG 550. Standard magazine capacity is thirty rounds. Drum type magazines can also be used, but Izistani forces typically do not utilize them.
The stock is made of a light weight, but strong polymer, allowing the weapon to be lightweight and yet stoutly built for usage in close quarters combat. In Izistani service the stock has a light gray coloration, but other colors are possible. The metal parts have a non-reflective matte black finish that is also corrosion resistant. The pistol grip is modeled after the “duckbill” grips available for the M16/AR15 for ergonomic purposes.
The MAWS has four attachment points for M1913 rails, one on top of the receiver to mount sighting systems, two to the side of the fore grip for tactical lights and other accessories, and one under the fore grip to fit grenade launchers or other sub-weapons to (shotguns, flame throwers, etc). The standard optical sight is a Izistani manufactured variant of the ACOG, but folding iron sights and a flip-up sight for use with the grenade launcher/rifle grenades are provided. Iron and grenade sights are tritium illuminated for night fighting.
Like most Izistani military long arms, a bayonet lug is provided for the fitting of an M7 bayonet (export variant will feature said importing countries bayonet lug). A semiautomatic version for civilian purchase has also been introduced to the market and is becoming one of the more popular military-style firearms on the Izistani market.
The barrel is hammer forged and features a Vortex flash hinder, modified in order to permit the firing of rifle grenades. The barrel length is different for each variant, but the standard assault rifle's barrel is 508mm long.
As the weapon is to fill a variety of roles (as per the XM135 design contract), variants have been developed. They will be described below.
Specifications(Assault Weapon):
Caliber: 7.25x42mm Izistani (multiple chamberings are available).

The MAWS Squad Support Weapon.
The SSW is a heavy, fluted barrel equipped variant of the standard assault weapon(AW). It can only be fired in automatic and two round burst, and it comes with a folding under barrel bipod. It accepts standard magazines, but drum magazines may be used as well . It has a 609mm barrel, and a higher firing rate of 800 rounds per minute. This variant was not adopted by the Izistani forces (who preferred a dedicated SAW to a assault rifle variant).
Specifications(SSW):
Caliber: 7.25x42mm Izistani (multiple chamberings are available).
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt. Bullpup configuration. Twin gas pistons.
Magazine Capacity: 30 round magazine or a 100 round drum.
Overall Length: 891mm.

The MAWS Designated Marksman's Rifle.
The DMR variant is a heavy, fluted barreled variant of the assault weapon. It comes with a folding bipod like the SSW. It can only fire in semiautomatic, and it cannot use rifle grenades due to the muzzle break that is fitted for extra accuracy. It has a 609 barrel and a machined upper receiver.
Specifications(Designated Marksman's Rifle):
Caliber: 7.25x42mm Izistani (multiple chamberings are available).
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt. Bullpup configuration. Twin gas pistons.

Sights: Self illuminating iron and grenade sights.
Price: $4000 per unit.
The MAWS Carbine.
Designed for those who need a shorter firearm then the AW. It features a 406mm barrel and a folding hand grip on the forearm for additional controllability due to the decreased size.
Specifications(Carbine):
Caliber: 9x42mm Izistani (multiple chamberings are available).
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt. Bullpup configuration. Twin gas pistons.
Magazine Capacity: 30 rounds.
Barrel Length: 406mm.
Overall Length: 688mm.

Weight Unloaded: 3.5 kilograms.
Range(maximum recommended): 700 meters.
Sights: Self illuminating iron and grenade sights.
Price: $955 per unit.
The MAWS SFMOD.
The SFMOD is probably the most unusual variant. It has a integrated suppressor based off that of the MP5SD and doesn't need to be fed specifically subsonic loadings, although grains around 170 to 200 grains (for 9x42mm, specific loadings vary per chambering) are recommended to make up for the lost velocity. and can only fire subsonic ammunition, rifle grenades can not be fired due to the presence of the suppressor. Produced for special forces, the Izistani SORG have already adopted it. It is believed that Kerberos has also produced a under barrel silent grenade launcher for added lethality. Machined upper receiver and an effective range of 300 meters.
Specifications(SFMOD):
Caliber: 9x42mm Izistani (multiple chamberings are available).
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt. Bullpup configuration. Twin gas pistons.
Magazine Capacity: 30 rounds.
