Post Twilight War History:
The Republic has gone through both high and low throughout the 20th century, much has happened to define the character of this nation; Wars, Pacts, Coups and other malices that plague a nation's stability. However following the fall of Communisim in the Old World the new idea of Pan-Continentanisim seemed to spread worldwide; Pan-Arabisim in The Middle East, Pan-Asianism in Asia and of course Pan-Europanism in Europe.

In the Early years following the conclusion of the Eurasian War, Close ties between the three powers of Britain, France and Germany led to a special economic pact known as the European Economic Comunity (EEC), which was further enhanced by the technological boost from the war which led to the Creation of the European Space Agency (ESA), Good relations ultimately led to military ties with current and future members.

These ties would mean an inevitable standoff with the other growing bloc of nations the Central Security and Prosperity Sphere (CSPS) led by the ambitious and the traditional adversery of Germany on International Spheres of influence.

The standoff came abruptly right after the Chinese incident which resulted in the French President being MIA and General Charles De Gaulle assuming Emergency Powers; while the world was reeling from the blow Turkey (Backed by the CSPS) audaciously tried to militarily exert its power on their Greek neighbors and renew old hostilities and disputes. The proximity of the matter to the Incident in China meant that this was a challange to the EEC to a duel, a duel to the finish, a duel for the most fabled of all Prizes; Lady Europa.

The Duel would be eventually won, the CSPS would lay in tatters and Europa would be for the European Alliance, however this duel had near-fatally wounded the alliance; The Treacherous use of the dreaded atom weaponry was used as a last ditch desperate attempt. France being much unharmed was tasked as, are the few such European nations, to help the economic recovery of the whole continent. This was no mean feat, the economic disruption caused by both the war and the incident in China, left much of the global economy at loss.

The internal affairs of the Republic is also begining to see some dark clouds forming, a few senior memebrs of the Communist Regime have been able to elude capture and are suspected to be involved in organised Crime, the "French Connection" as know to their forign counterparts. Although they have kept a low profile, times of poverty may be ripe for the plight of the workers, especially if the Ultra-Capitalists who hold power in the Parliment are able to alienate the masses, something the President is concerned about.

Abroad, the United Islamic Republics, a close military, economic ally and France's Oil Supplier neighbors a dangerously unstable India which seems to radicalise by the minute. A solution must be worked out.

Times ahead may be difficult, with both international and Internal affairs calling...

1965- The People of France feel the sting of the depression, no longer are there the tope notch services they are used to, and suddenly unemployment is on the rise, this has an unhealthy effect on order and crime is on the rise.

General De Gaulle assures the people that these are temporary times and that the Global Economy should pick up in a couple of years, several public and private economic experts coraberate this although both are on the government's pay.

Mass media is proving to be a helpful tool. Soon several commercials and other pieces are displayed through Television, Radio and Cinema. Many include a little Greek Girl thanking an elderly French Admiral, The love story of a French Soldier and his Fiance' and various other planned themes and scenarios, along with the rise of other types of programing in television; Sitcoms, Soap Operas, Cartoon. Television is becoming an influencial instrument in daily lives.

The European Lunar Landing is proved to be a major boost to morale as the Landing is considered a national holiday and a new medal is announced which is named after all three Pilots and each are presented with one.

1966-The Depression Continues as Organised Crime is on the Rise aswell, Many Rackets such as Moneylaundering, Illegal Gambling, Prostitition Rings, Slavery Rings are reported. However most Concern goes to a rising new trade of Narcotics, especially in areas hard hit by the Depression.

As in some neighboring European nations, Radicals sentiments are being voiced but this is mainly due to depression than the War, however a much broader wave of Pious Religous feelings spread through France, The French Cardinal efforts to provide Charity through the competant Use of media is gaining the Catholics Support in Parlament. This is further boosted when Famous French astronaut appears in one of these segments encouraging people to give more and criticises those who call on reducing government spending in these times of need.

Leftiest Politicians also gain support, soon the Christian Left have enough support to counter the Capitalist Majority, Conservatives are divided.

1967- Organised crime finally cannot find any more room to expand as the rapid expansion caused by massive unemployment and the deppression. Light street fighting begins although it is relatively light and often ends when police arrive. "Gang territories" are being more and more distinct with markers such as a black scarf hanging from a stop light begin to show.

Throughout the latter of this year, people begin to complain about the continuance of the depression despite government analysis, Formal statements blame organised crime, The Christian Left appeal for calm while the Capitalists -though in a softer tone- criticise the government for continuing the national effort.

1968- Efforts are becoming difficult as it appears gangsters have an intensive network of politicians "in their pockets", it was not long till government efforts were proving fruitless, this lead to the president forming a special taskforce of law enforcers who were given extraordinary powers and are above the law and would only answer to the President, this move was highly criticised though it proved highly effective and those Criminal masterminds who did not moderate activities found themsleves behind bars for a varity of charges, some even caught merly on tax evasion.

1969- Crime was handled and put under control, though organised crime will continue to remain, a new branch of the police force is made to deal with this threat. Meanwhile Cardinal Pierre Landru recieves a medal for his continued services to France.

The Latter years of 1969 finally see an end to the Deppression as Fuel prices go down and people begin again to expreience luxieries of life. Including French wine which price skyrocketted due to the continued failure of Grape crops, however recovery is finally setting in and prices begin to return to original levels, in some cases whole blocs would pitch in and share what luxury they bought.

However another issue faces France abroad as insurgency begins to show itself in Allied territories

With our closer ties to the UIR, the UIP finds itself strangely interested in closer ties to France. As we are closer to Britain due to the Australasian continent.

Alright, we wish to start discussion with Europe, though we do wonder and this is a particular question, is Germany getting closer to India? It seems they believe a country defending it's soveirnty is childish? We are curious as to why a European power considers soveirgnty such a childish thing.

Although we are flattered to be regarded as to your window to Europe, we are, unfortunately, unable to speak on behalf of our neighbors forign policies, although we might share a few concerns about them. We suggest that you contact them about the matter if you wish to discuss, please do give them my regards when you do.

Any other matters regarding France which you would to discuss?

Very good point. We do have one question. Due to the current events, our religious authorities have been influencing the people to make pilgrimages. However, the government has decided that other nations may have equally important places of worship. While the Muslim population of the UIP went to Mecca, they also went to Qom. We were curious if there could be a place in France tha thte Catholic representatives may wish to visit on their way to the Vatican. After all France has been a Catholic nation.

Also we were curious if we may set up trade agreements in the future. It's best to diversify, and we've found a rather interesting scheme of selling masses of electronics equipment for cheap. (Which is what they do today in the RL.)

Certianly, we are sure to open up our hospitaity to travellers from all over the world, it may be of interest to visit several Catholic sites like the Cathedral of Notre Dame or the city of Avignon.

As for trade we would welcome that aswell.

After rumors that the President has lambasted his Forign Minister, the Foring Minister stated that he is going to resign his post due to "Private Reasons", this comes at a shock to his Capitalist Party collegues who have been rumored to pledge to support him if he was to be sacked.

His replacement will be a prominant lawyer from the newly Rapidly rising Christian Left Party, this marks the first position the party will fill in Cabinet. Cardinal Landru have expressed faith in the abilities of this new appointment.

However this move also marks the rapid fall of support for the Capitalist party who seem to be on the verge of a split with one faction adopting the more "pure" ideas of capitalisim and the other comprising of the several more moderate elements.

It is wildly speculated on the reason for this sudden move, however this reporter speculates that it may have something to due with the fortunate reversal of the UIR-Indian Relations from crisis to avertion.
