2006: Socialdemokraterna party wins majority again in September's parliamentary elections. Göran Persson re-elected

2007: 38 Swedes and 89 Britons killed at international friendly in Malmo in a HAMAS bomb attack.

2007: 10 Swedish UN peacekeepers killed in Bosnia

2007: Carl XVI dies in car crash, Princess Victoria crowned at a time of strong anti-monarchy sentiment following the Spanish Kingdom's Creation

2008: Queen Victoria moves to Monaco but retains title

2009: Influx of Slavic immigrants leads to tightening of immigration policy

2008: Strong economic growth due to healthy in services industry, technology and public sector. Total GDP grows to $274,3 billion, Per Capita to $32,898

2011: Sweden suffers massively during nuclear winter. Northern half becomes uninhabitable as temperatures plummet, towns abandoned as people head south. Few live north of Uppsala. Urban population at 90%. Timber forests die out. Food must be produced in labs. Suicide and alcoholism rates are worlds highest. 50% of power lost as hydroelectric dams freeze over. Economic collapse causes welfare state to disintegrate. Government uses emergency powers to keep control.

2011: Mass emigration sees population halve to 5million

2012: Crisis elections held after government collapse. Left leaning centre party takes power, lead by Anders Moberg.

2012: Riots engulf Sweden as unemployment reaches 35% with no welfare state. Emergency powers are used for the scond time that year. 12 die in the riots.

2012: Queen Victoria returns from Monaco. She gains popularity for charity work and her return at a difficult time

2013: Pan European effort sees partial economic recovery but stability is gained.

2013: Government support and international investment sees electronics and hi tech industry diversify and grow massively.

2013: Sweden becomes world's largest producer of synthetic drugs. International crime syndicates establish themselves in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo and Uppsala.

2013: World leader in technology, exports supported by goods to cope with radiation and consequences of nuclear war

2013: Prime Minister Moberg shot dead in Beijing by schizophrenic. Referendum elects Lars Ekburg, fomer foreign minister as new leader. He consolidates Scandanavian agreements. Ekburg is known for his friendship with John Prescott, British PM

2013: Millions return from Britain, Germany and Benelux. The population surges to 7.5 million

2014: Powerhouse technology industry and high EQ give Sweden 19th largest economy

2014: Welfare state ressurected

2014:Returning migrants and welfare state boost population to pre nuclear levels. At the end of the year 9 million live in Sweden, almost all in southern cities. Demographic crisis no longer a problem, young adult population

2014: Hydroelectric power capacity returns to prewar levels. It produces 75% of Sweden's power, with 15% coming from biodiesel and wind and 10% from nuclear power. Nuclear power, of course, declined massively in popularity following the 2011 war.

2014: Drugs industry estimated to be worth $12billion. Cheap ecstasy, crystal meth, LSD and newly engineered drugs flood Europe from Sweden, although abuse in Sweden is low.

2014: Organized crime a major problem for police forces, but has incremental effect economy

2014: Clampdown begins on drug trade and crime syndicates after bombing of central police station in Stockholm kills 27 people.

2014: Lars Ekburg re elected by a landslide, on a campaign that hinged on the economy and foreign policy. Sweden remains militarily neutral.

2014: Queen Victoria marries Prince Harry of Britain, further strengthening ties between Sweden and the UK. Britain is still home to some 500,000 Swedes.
