December 5th, 1983. Lieutenant Chris Baker stood up, taking a much needed stretch. He stood atop a large, densely forested, hill. In the cold, night air, he was wrapped up in his heavy parka, to better warm himself from the harsh German Winter.

Using Night Vision Goggles, he scanned his own lines. Thirty-Three other United States soldiers were asleep or on guard duty, firmly set in dug out foxholes.

A recent graduate from West Point Military Academy, he differed from his father, who was an Air Force pilot, in that he wanted to be in the Infantry. His father respected the decision, though had wished his son took a better view of flying, which was his own passion.

Yet this was not Chris's. He had always loved the thrill of hunting, being on the ground, in the dirt and the mud. By becoming an infantry officer, he truly had his dream job.

Now, he was stationed along the Fulda Gap, waiting for a War that he expected would never come, but was supposed to ignite any moment. He thought the possibility of such a war was highly unlikely.

He would find himself to be terribly wrong.

A low rumble in the distance echoed through the valley, as though demons from hell had been awoken.

"What the hell?" He wondered aloud. His men awoke aswell. Just then, all around him, explosions rocked the earth. Dirt, debris, and shrapnel were flung in every direction, tearing unsuspecting soldiers to shreds.

"Get down!" He screamed. He hunkered down in his fox hole. His radio man, PFC Hubbard, managed to evade the torrent of shrapnel, and get to him.

"We gotta tell HQ!" He shouted over the roar.

Baker just nodded, and got on the radio.

World War Three had begun.

OOC: I am AWFUL with Russian names...

IC: December 5th, 1983, A few minutes earlier...

General Turin Nevecho, Second in Command of the Soviet equivalent of Commander in Chief Europe, lowered his binoculars after scanning across the border of West/East Germany. 500 meters to his right and left was the beginning of rows upon rows of Soviet 122, 130, and 152mm towed and self-propelled Artillery Guns.

It hadnt been easy to hide from the imperialists the buildup and readiness procedures. The increase of live fire exercises, the conscription of young men in preperation, the new batteries for the diesal submmrines. All of that hardwork was now going to pay off.

He raised his hand and brought it down... and several seconds later the huge mass of guns began firing their barrage. The Cold War was over... the Hot War had begun.

The world had been slowly climaxing towards war for the past three years. It was said the war truly began in Poland, with various workers riots. This was assisted and incited by American and British agents. Though defeated, Soviet Military units sent to restore order managed to uncover one of the British Agents. This was resulted in a strong downward spiral to war.

A few months later, the Soviet Military invaded Yugoslavia. Airborne Divisions dropped deep into the country, and quickly seized firm control of Serajevo. Meanwhile, motorized infantry divisions and several armored divisions sped across the border, smashing the unaware Yugoslav defenses. The war lasted less than forty eight hours. Many authorities on the Soviet Union for saw what was coming, however, the United States government was not prepared for a war in the Executive Branch, as the Vietnam debacle was still burned into their minds.

Some were not so surprised when those tanks rolled over the border.....

Norwegian King Olav V was an old man, they was no denying that. Even having recently turned 80 years old, he still participated in sailing whenever he could. Since it was winter, instead of taking one of the small sail boats he instead had taken out the royal yacht, the KNM Norge. Though it was cold, as could be expected from winter in Norway, the wind that day was minimal and the sun was out, a good day for motoring along the coastline and looking at all the little houses and villages along the way.

As he was returning back to the Navy base at Haakonsvern, he could sense something was not normal. The personnel were in an unusually alert state, and there seemed to be a sense of urgency in their movements. This greatly worried Olav, as the last time he could remember Norwegians in such a state was when the Wehrmacht had stormed into the country 43 years before.

As he was walking off the boat, he spotted a jet black Saab 900 sedan racing across the base and screeching to a halt nearby the King's yacht. Out stepped Prime Minister Kåre Willoch, who walked rather briskly up to Olav.

"Your Majesty, we have recieved highly troubling news through the NATO channels. From what we can understand, the Soviets are attacking through the Fulda Gap in Germany, initially with a heavy artillery barrage."

Oh, no, Olav thought. Not another war. He'd been horrified by the sight of houses and buildings aflame from the bombings by Nazi planes, reports of Norwegian ships being holed and sunk as if they weren't even there. The government were barely able to escape the approaching Wehrmacht as they took the capital Oslo.

"Sir, what should we do?"
"Mobilize our reserve forces," said Olav. "Increase patrols by air and sea, order our forces to keep a look out for Soviet naval vessels and aircraft. I dearly hope they will not try and strike against us, but if they do, we may need to hold them off until reinforcements arrive."

A plane carrying President Li Xiannian has just touched down at Beijing Airport. He had just returned from a trip to visit Shanghi. While he was there he was given a tour of the new industrial and port districts. These were the first steps of Deng Xiaoping's reform to boost the economy of China by focusing on the four main modernizations: agriculture, industry, science and technology, and the military.

As the plane rolled to a stop on the tarmac, a flight of stairs was rolled up to the door. A small crowd of media was present to take photos of the Presidents arrival to put in the local papers and to send to the Western papers. The door opened and he stepped out onto the stairs. At the bottom was his aide who had a not so delightful look on his face. He slowly made his way down to hear what his aide had to say.

"President Li welcome back. I have news that is very urgent. We have recieved word that the Soviet Union has attacked United States positions along the Fulda Gap in Germany."

"Walk with me... Have any reports been recieved that the Soviets have increased troop garrisons on our fronts?"

"No such news has been recieved at head quarters. What should we do?"

"We should not worry for now. Continue with the reforms, but I want security on the border to be on increased alert. Keep me and the other top officials informed at all times. We may be contacted by the Soviets or the United States on this matter. If they do I would like to speak with them."

"Yes President."

President Li got into his car, and was on his way to discuss these matters with the other officials.

Alarm Klaxons wailed and released a blood red light in the barracks. Colonel James Baker's eyes shot awake, seeing the red tinting which filled every dark sillhouette. Even if he didn't know the meaning of the Klaxon, he would have still been afraid.

"Move your asses!" One of the other Wing Commanders shouted. "We're under attack!" He jolted upright out of his bunk, and sprinted down a hall way, as were a hundred other pilots, and made his way to the equipment room. He grabbed his flight vest, helmet, and other necessities for the long day ahead of him.

"God I hope this is a drill!" A new Escort pilot, Lieutenant Jefferson, said nervously, eyes focused on Baker.

Sighing, Baker replied, "So do I."

"All Bomber pilots, report immediatley to your aircraft." The intercomm screamed. "Escorts ready your fighters!"

Once on the concrete outside, he sprinted to where his B-52 was parked. He found his crew there as well, all ready to embark the mission.

"We set?" He asked his co-pilot, Captain Winters.

"Yes sir!" He said.

Baker nodded, and looked to the Navigator, seated at his station. "Course?"

"Moscow Sir!" Ensign Neil replied.

"Weapons Officer?" he asked Major Hartman.

"85 500 pound bombs sir."

"All systems are go," Winters said.

"Are we cleared for Take off?" He asked the tower.

"Yes. Report to runway 3-0."

The 1st and 4th Armoured Divisions sat side by side on the IGB, their area of responsibly was the Northern Plains, just north of Hanover right down to just north of Kassel, the center of the NATO lines. The area they occupied was perfect for mass tank assaults, just what the Soviet 3rd Shock Army was going to throw at them.

They had occupied every outcrop, every village and every town in the area, hoping to force the Russian tanks into the cramped confines of a street or square. Here their anti-tank infantry could go to work. Those who weren’t deployed to the towns formed strong points in tree lines, using mines, trenches and barbed wire they created fortresses out of nothing.

General Gow, the British Army of the Rhine commander, decided he would let the Russians have the plains, but they will pay in blood and bullets for every Town, village or feature on the map.

The 6th Armoured Division sat in Soest, waiting patiently in reserve and the advance elements of the 2nd Infantry Division, normally based in Cattrick, were already filtering into their predestined locations.

The Berlin Brigade had already made contact with the Russians in the heart of Berlin. I was widely accepted that Berlin would fall, but it didn’t stop the 3 Infantry battalions in the city fighting anyway.

Northern PLains, just North of Hannover

Colonel Terisvik Netrovino, 4th regiment, 92nd Armored Division, 3rd Shock Army, was filled with a sense of pride as his regiments T-80 and T-72 Main Battle Tanks rolled forward, simultaneous with the lifting of the massive artillery barrage that had just, hopefully, turned the enemy lines into a mass of craters. To the right and left of his regiment was the rest of the division, moving forward in tanks, BMPs, and BTRs. hanging a little ways behind them were ZSU-23-4 triple-A and a vareity of mobile SAMs. Artillery's job was now to provide on the call support to the main attack body. Airsupport was also on call, just incase.

The just east of the Fulda Gap...

General Turin Nevecho also was watching his tanks and armored personnel carriers rumbled forward. Along with them were a couple of Mi-24 Assualt Helicopters equipped with chain guns and anti-tank missiles.

Various Airbases in East Germany...

Hundreds of MiG-27s, Su-24s and -25s took to the skies, loaded down with runway cratering munitions. Their mission was to disable NATO Airbases with numerous craters and destroy as many NATO aircraft on the ground with them. A few of the Soviet Aircraft were loaded down with jamming devices instead of munitions. Providing escort were MiG-21s, -23s, and -29s.

Voyska-PU Headquarters, South of Moscow...

Brigidier General Vlosova Kernerick was tense, with the opening of hostilities with NATO, they were on constant watch for possible nuclear missiles and bombers.

"Sir, long range RADAR detecting inbound American bombers, probably B-52s, we are generating the numbers now, but their course appears to be for Moscow." A subordinate said.

"All of them?" Kernerick asked.

"Da, Comrade General." The subordinate replied.

"Either they are attempting a conventional raid, or are going to try to nuke Moscow en-masse, either way, they will pay for intruding into the Motherland." Kernerick said, "Alert all anti-aircraft rocket units, alert the Politburo, and launch interceptors!"

The politburo were rushed to top secret leadership bunkers just outside of Moscow whose location had been kept secret. Up to 140 MiG-31s and MiG-29s took off, loaded down with Air-Air Missiles.

Colonel James Baker saluted to his Escort squadron, who immediatley prepared to engage the Soviet Fighters. Dozens of F-16s of the 522nd Escort Squadron targeted the Soviet Aircraft using Beyond Visual Range sensors and ATA missles.

Worrying about his infantry officer son, who was in the Fulda Gap, he prayed, "Let my son be alright," And continued focusing on his aircraft.

Lieutenant Baker's infantry troops, over one fourth of whom were killed in the torrential bombardment, stayed low in their trench. The 11th Armored Cavalry Division moved to counter the Soviet offensive there.

The Fulda Gap...

The lead formations, consisting of T-80BV Main Battle Tanks began to report in spotting enemy armor. Soon the armored formations of the 8th Gaurds Army were firing SABOT and HEAT rounds at the American vehicles.

ooc. At this point I don't know anything about the start of WWIII, because this is prior to the start. This post is just a plan to win a decisive abttle and end the war with Iran quickly.

December 1st, 1983, Basra-1834 hours

Lieutenant-General Bashir was the Commander of the 4th. Mechanized Division which was located just North-East of Basra. Like all Commanders in the Basra area, he was called to a Secret Conference about the situation around the City. The City was virtually besieged by Iranian Forces since a year, cutting the city, and thus the country, of from the Sea. For months now the Iraqi forces have been involved in some though skirmishes with Iranian Forces in the area. The situation was desperate, because Iraqi exports had dropped dramatically. When every commander was assembled the meeting began.

Chief Commander Southern Theatre Aziz: ”Good evening gentlemen. I’m sure that you all know what this conference is about. Basra has been besieged since a year, and our Glorious leader Hussein has wished that this siege will be lifted. The most important reason is that the economy is ruined because we can’t export that much as we used to. We are cut of from the sea after all.

To end this siege, a brilliant plan has been developed for a couple of months now. It is a most crucial plan, for if it fails, we are doomed.

*walks to map*

The main goal of the plan is to drive the Iranians from the city and establish a front along the Kuron River [sp?]. If possible, we are to cross the river and drive the enemy as far into Iran itself as possible, thus preventing Iran from operating on Iraqi soil.

This plan will start with a small attack, big enough to convince the Iranians to send reinforcements, in the North near Rayat and Halabja. The Norther Theatre will take care of that. While our brothers in the North create a diversion, we will attack in three directions: towards the Persian Gulf, to Abadan and to Ahvaz. A total of two Republican Guard Infantry Divisions, one Republican Guard Armored Division, six Regular Mechanized Divisions, ten Regular Infantry Divisions and four Regular Armored Divisions will be used in this plan, called Operation Thrust. As you can see, all of the Southern Theatre Forces will be used, so there is no second chance. We must succeed.

The attack will be opened with a five hour Artillery and Air Force Bombardment on enemy lines, starting at 0030 hours. Chemical Weapons will be used at important points…*commanders murmur and are shocked* The Air Force will bomb the Iranian Airfields so that they can’t give support. Even though our Mig’s will give support and protection, both in the air and on the ground. At 0530 hours, Mortar fire will join the Artillery for half an hour. At 0600 Hours, the Attack will begin.

First are the Mechanized and Armored Divisions which will head for the Persian gulf. They will ride full speed, leaving hard targets for the Air Force and Infantry. When they reach the Gulf they will drive along the coast until a crossing over the Kuron Delta is established and secure.

The Second Attack, the one against Abadan will operate in the same matter as the First Attack. Hard targets however will be attacked and destroyed when encountered as the Centre will have less Infantry Divisions to mop up resistance. Abadan should be reached as fast as possible.

The Big Attack, the Right Wing attack with as target Ahvaz, will be the most important one. This attack is crucial for the whole operation, as we need to drive Iran away from our soil. All the Republican Guard Forces will be used in this attack and they will form the spearhead.

Once the attack is underway, Tu-16 bombers will execute deep strikes inside Iran, hitting important Infrastructure and Government Buildings in Teheran.

When the First and Second Attacks have reached their objectives they are to halt, consolidate the conquered terrain and reinforce the third Attack if necessary. Once objectives are reached engineers will immediately start the construction of fortifications, and so create a stable base for future operations. You will all get files with individual orders and intelligence provided by our Agency and the CIA…”

Forces:
1st. Attack
2 Mech. Divisions
1 Armored Division
4 Infantry Divisions

2nd. Attack
2 Mech. Divisions
2 Armored Divisions
2 Infantry Divisions

3rd. Attack

IC: Finnish/Norwegian Border...

The Soviet equivalent of Commander in Chief North was peering into his binocolaurs towards the Norwegian Border. He was currently in the headquarters of the 7th Shock Army, one of the three units(the others being 3rd Gaurds Army and 12th Red Army) assigned to Operation WINTERSWEEP... the invasion of the Scandinavian countries.

He smiled rufefully, unless the Scandinavians got reinforcements from NATO, they would be crushed. He checked his watch, waiting for the last second to pick up the phone and say: "Fire."

The 7th Shock Armies and the 12th Red Armies artillery guns burst forth. A deep rumble echoed throughout the barren, snowswept wastelands as the massive artillery barrage commenced and began to land on the heads of Norwegian and Swedish defenders. The 3rd Gaurds Army was being held in reserve until the other Soviet Armies were forced to spread out some.

300 ft above the Northern Plains –

4 Harriers cut through the air as they skimmed across the ground, the lead pilot was making course corrections every other minute, the rest of the flight had their eyes to the sky, desperately looking for enemy fighters.

Squadron Leader James-Hamdon listened carefully to the radio message before switching on his transmitter, “And they are currently running parallel to nicknumber 15 at BATCO A5 G4 B4?”

The SAS trooper who was sat in a treeline about 2 miles away from the Russian column checked the map again before keying his speak switch, “Correct, wind conditions are fair. Your clear.”

“Ok Romeo 44, get yourself out of there, we’ll begin our attack in 2 minutes,” he said checking his watch.

Sure enough 2 minutes later the 4 harriers screamed over the horizon, unleashing their bomb load on to the column. They then burned away, all slamming their chaff buttons and waiting for the tell tale ringing of a SAM lock.

The same was happening all over the Northern Plain, where be it strongholds or SAS roaming patrols calling in the strikes. It was NATOs response to the artillery strikes… And hopefully more precise.
Red Tide2
26-07-2006, 23:22
When the Harriers released their payload, they got a pretty fair margin of tanks... for an airstrike. 2 T-72s and 4 T-80s were blown apart.

The Harriers were chased by not just SAMs, but massive strings of FlaK as the ZSU-23-4s opened fire. A large mass of about several dozen SA-8s and SA-9s rose into the sky, chasing after the Harriers. Some would be decoyed away, but not all.

The response was mostly the same everywhere the airstrikes began to hit, and casualties were pretty much the same. It wouldnt be long before the tanks hit the edge of the British lines.

3 Commando Brigade were in position long before the Soviets started shooting, luckily they were on their Annual Exercise in the North of Norway at the time. They missed the barrage, regular Norwegian troops held the line at this time.

3 Cdo were to hold the rear areas, which would very soon become the front line, once the Norwegian army had been over run. The Commandos were to fight a guerilla war of sorts, slowing down the Russians as much as possible. Unlike the German front however, no help was coming from the UK, they were very much on their own.

Northern Plain -

Major Breton-Martin of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Tank Regiment sat in the commanders hatch of one of his 36 Challenger tanks, which was almost buried in its defensive trench just outside the village of Cocham. Surrounding him was A company, The Cheshire Regiment. They were also concealed in trenches and in the odd building in the village itself, the past occupants having the foresight to run west.

They were pretty well hidden by all accounts, they might get the drop on the Reds… they’d find out soon of course.

“Stand by,” he whispered into his microphone, “wait until they get into range…”

What he was looking at through the commander’s sight was what must be the advance element of a soviet tank force moving on the village…

He waited until the range indicator ticked down to its maximum range, he then tapped the gunner on the back with his foot, signaling for him to fire.

The L11A5 120 mm rifled gun belched fire as it sent the CHARM round towards the lead soviet tank. The back blast knocked the natural cover off the front of the tank, displaying it to the world.

The other tanks which were in range fired shortly after, frantically reloading before the Russians could return fire.

27-07-2006, 00:15
A large majority of the targets aimed at by the Challengers went up in a ball of fire, a select few minority(no more then one or two) of the T-80s were able to deflect the rounds. There was a short pause, followed by action, as the Soviets began to fire HEAT and SABOT rounds and also began manuevering to avoid being hit accurately.

Colonel Netrovino was now working frantically to coordinate his regiments side of the battle. Behind him, he could hear a rumbling as artillery began to fire. A massive barrage began to land on the British lines, sending up plumes of debris, wrecking houses and digging rather large craters into the land.

(OOC: Ok, I'm back. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me this time, this should be a long one.)

IC:

Vadsø
Capital of Finnmark County
Extreme northern Norway

The entirety of Finnmark county was in a precarious location: the farthest reach north on mainland Norway, it was on the dividing line between NATO and the Soviet Union. For much time, not much occured in this desolate region, and the population was not particularly high. Similarly, Norway had little to nothing in the way of military installations in much of Finnmark county.

That didn't make the reality of the Soviet artillery attack any less terrifying, though. In the still air, the 5,000 or so inhabitants of Vadsø were doing their usual daily routine when off to the south-east, several citizens heard something that wasn't quite right. Thunder. They knew this far north and this time of the year, there weren't thunderstorms. Suddenly, people began to worry, some were running around, looking for a place to hide.

Not that there was really anywhere to hide. The town itself had few buildings, and nowhere could a bomb shelter be found. Moments later, the first shells impacted the ground, and for much time the Soviet artillery was making craters in the ground at such frequency that it would rival the surface of the moon. It wasn't so much that the Soviet artillery was inaccurate, it was more that there wasn't much to shoot at.

Still, every so often a building would be disintegrated by the explosion from a 152mm artillery round. People were certainly being injured and killed, civilians; many women, children, old men. Many of the able-bodied men were out on the ocean in fishing boats, supporting likely the only industry in Vadsø.

Panic started to seep in. Some people were rushing the injured to the hospital, others began to pack their belongings into vehicles and fled the town; where to was unknown, there wasn't much else in the area.

What was certain was that for the second time that century, Norway was at war.

6th Division, Brigade North
Harstad, Troms County
Northern Norway

The troops of Brigade North had been trying to entertain themselves or to their work, especially maintaining the vehicles, when alarms started to blare.

They raced to their formation positions as Generalmajor Magnuss Erikson came out of his quarters to brief the troops.

"Men! We're gonna be moving out soon, to Vadsø in eastern Finnmark. This is no drill, not a practice operation, no training. This is the real deal. The Soviets have massed artillery guns to the town's south-east are have begun a barrage of fire, which we believe is in preparation for an invasion. We have been ordered, along with the XIV and XV Infantry Brigades, to move to Vadsø and hold the line until reinforcements arrive. Get ready to mount up, you've got 15 minutes."

The soldiers raced back to their quarters, gathering gear, weapons, and winter combat equipment. Others began to line up the vehicles; Mercedes Geländewagen troop transports, M113 infantry fighting vehicles, M109 Paladin self-propelled artillery guns, old Leopard 1 tanks. It was likely this force would not be enough to hold off a full-scale Soviet invasion, but there was one agreement: they would not give up without a fight.

137 Wing, Royal Norwegian Air Force
Rygge Air Station, south of Oslo
Southern Norway

At around the same time as the Soviet attack in the north, the airraid sirens at Rygge began to blare, and the alarmed pilots and ground personnel began to race to their positions. Within only a minute, a pair of "on-alert" F-104 Starfighters were thundering down the runway and airborne, with the remaining 16 at Rygge being fueled and armed with great urgency. Even the four TF-104 trainer planes were being fitted with missiles.

Along the west coast, at Bodø and Ørland, Norway's new F-16s were doing the same trick. Long range radar had reported a huge group of aircraft moving towards Norway, dozens of planes, and by now it was pretty certain they flew under command of the Hammer & Sickle.

Defense Staff Norway
Oslo, capital of Norway

After hearing the reports, King Olav V could barely find the strength to stand, and several aides as well as the Prime Minister raced over, but Olav was able to find a chair before falling over. Tears could be seen running down his aged cheeks, and it took some time before he began to speak.

"I hoped, in all my life, that I'd never again bear witness to such brutality and horror as I had seen during the Second World War, and especially hoped it would not be on our homeland."

Some time passed, and nothing was said. The feeling was burned in the other men in the room, most of whom were not old enough to have endured the Wehrmacht invasion of 1940 or the occupation for five years afterwards.

"We must contact NATO command, ask for reinforcements to hold the line in the north and to keep the Soviet air forces at bay," Olav said, as an aide pulled out a notebook and frantically began to write.

Just as suddenly as it had begun, the barrage stopped... okay, not AS suddenly, but close enough. As the guns stopped firing, CinC North picked up a phone and said, "All units, advance."

The T-80 and T-72 Main Battle Tanks, as well as BTR and BMP Armored Personnel Carriers, engines roared to life. The vehicles began to roll across the snow and ice of Northern Norway. From a distance, an observor would see a large mass of vehicles spread across the mostly empty plains, from one horizon to the other, kicking up a cloud of white snow behind them.

CinC North decided now it was time to release his air assets upon Norways Airfields. He didnt have anywhere near the assets of CinC Europe, but he was promised reinforcements if he did well. 24 Su-25s, escorted by 27 MiG-29s flew towards Norwegian Airbases, the Su-25s were mostly loaded down with runway busting munitions, while the MiG-29 were loaded with a mixture of Air-Air Missiles and unguided bombs.

Re: Soviet Attacks

Norway has been attacked by Soviet ground forces, and soon will be under attack by their air forces. While we have called up reserves and are sending forces to meet the Soviet attack, we do not believe this will be enough to stop them. We urgently request reinforcements be sent to prevent the Reds from overrunning our nation.

(OOC: I've found a page that would be of great use to NATO forces in this RP, it was where I got much of my information for Norway. Apparently, it was likely that in the event of war in Norway against the Soviets, that the U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Division and U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division, as well as the U.K. 3rd Royal Commando Brigade would be sent to reinforce the Norweigans. ----link here---- (http://orbat.com/site/history/historical/nato/oob1989.html) )

Radar equipment at Norway's seven airbases were picking up the Soviet aircraft crossing the Norwegian border. In respons, for the first time in their existance in Norway, each base's battery of enormous MIM-14 Nike-Hercules surface-to-air missiles was started up in preparation. Additionally, batteries of MIM-23 Improved-Hawk SAMs were loaded with missiles, and in the Army units, men with Saab-built RBS-70 MANPADS and even old Bofors 40mm autocannons, were preparing to fire upon the invaders.

Meanwhile, the whole of 334, 338, and 336 Squadrons were airborne and closing in on the Soviet planes. Consisting of some 20 F-16s, 18 F-104s, and 14 F-5s, they were armed with Sidewinder missiles and their guns, and hopefully would put a large dent in the attacking force. If not, in reserve was the F-16s of 331 and 332 Squadron (332 possessing combat-capable trainer versions of the F-16), and the TF-104s remaining of 334 Squadron. Beyond that, all that was left was the SAMs and assorted anti-aircraft fire.

By now, they were rapidly closing with the Soviet air attack, and Major Stian Haakon radioed his fellow pilots.

"All right men, you know what to do. They may try to jam our radars, so prepare for a dogfight. Now I know there's not a faint heart among you, so if you don't want to see the Hammer & Sickle over Oslo, you'll give these bastards hell before letting them in!!"

The various pilots agreed, but were in a determined focus, waiting for the job at hand. After a few more minutes, the Soviet aircraft were within range.

"Fighters inbound, escorting slower aircraft, likely attack planes."
"Targets identified, counting over 20 Frogfoot attack planes, just under 30 Fulcrum fighters."
"Take out those fighters, once they're gone the attack planes will be sitting ducks."

With that, some 52 Sparrow missiles were launched from the various fighters, not all at once like in the movies, but in random orders as their pilots achieved radar lock on a particular plane.

OOC: I think you mean Sparrow when you say Sidewinder, the Sparrow is RADAR guided, the Sidewinder is Infrared Guided.

IC: One of the Su-25s was carrying extremely sophisticated jamming equipment, these were flipped on and the MiG and Sukhois were instantly hidden in a massive cloud of jamming. Simultaneously, the MiGs and Sukhois began manuevering and releasing chaff to the best of their ability. Five MiGs were turned into falling, flaming, aluminium scrap by the missiles. But the rest continued on.

Now the Jammers were switched off and the MiGs began to return fire with their R-24 BRAAMs. However, the Soviets had an ace up their sleeve, and the Norwegians didnt know it yet.

Just having finished topping off their tanks via mid-air refueling, another 22 Su-25s and 30 MiG-23s turned South somwhere close to Bjornoya. They were also heading for the Airfields.

[QUOTE=Red Tide2]OOC: I think you mean Sparrow when you say Sidewinder, the Sparrow is RADAR guided, the Sidewinder is Infrared Guided.[QUOTE]

OOC: Hmm, yeah, good point. I'll go back and edit it. Oh, and I you mean the R-23 missile, I don't think there is an R-24.

IC:

Several MiGs went down, but it wasn't enough to stop the raid. Just afterwards, the Soviets began intense jamming of the Norwegian fighters, just as Haakon had predicted.

"Damn it, they're jamming us. Prepare for close combat."
"Missiles inbound, sir!"
"Evasive manuvers, get in behind them and take them down!"

Haakon's F-16 squadron were some of the newest planes in service, and only had some trouble avoiding the incoming missiles. The small, quick-manuvering F-5s also were able to dodge the missiles. However, the old F-104s of 334 Squadron had serious difficulty, the Starfighters never having the necessary sustained turn rate to be very effective as an air superiority fighter. Six of them were lost.

So unless their jamming let up, it was down to the guns and the infrared-guided Sidewinders. All right, time for a good, old-fashioned dog fight. After whizzing by the incoming Soviet planes at a fantastic speed, the Norwegians gradually began to bank around and come on the tails of of the Reds.

"Get a lock on their exhaust heat, and let 'em have it."

The remaining 46 planes let loose an equal volley of Sidewinders at random intervals.

Defense Staff Norway
Oslo, capital of Norway

"Your Majesty, new reports coming in on long-range radars, a second group of Soviet aircraft are inbound," one of the radio operators said.

"What do we have left to send to intercept them?" asked the King.

"Uh, F-16s of 331 Squadron, plus the combat-trainers of 332 and 334. Beyond that, all we have are the missiles, sir."

Not enough, the King thought. Not enough planes left. Still, there was one other item in the Norwegian inventory that could deal with large groups of planes at long distances.

"Order the Nike batteries to open fire on the second group. Get our second wave of planes airborne to deal with anything left over. Also, get our Hawk batteries ready to go, just in case anything gets through."

******

At airbases all over Norway, the batteries for the huge Nike-Hercules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nike-Hercules) missiles opened up, and their payload raised, ready to fire. The two stations closest to the second Soviet raid, Andøya and Bardufoss, each fired off four of the massive SAMs, total of eight. Due to their equally massive 1100-pound warheads, it was hoped that was all that would be needed.

Norway Air Battle #1

Around the same time the Norwegian jets let loose their missiles, the Soviet MiGs began to fire back with R-60(NATO Name: AA-8 APHID) Air-Air Missiles. Locking onto the Infrared signature of the enemies, each MiG loosed four R-60s. The planes began to swerve and dodge amongst each other. The Frogfoots, on the other hand, dove for the ground, flying as low as possible in order to blend in with ground clutter, and continued to head towards the airfields.

Norway Air Battle #2

Once again jammers were flipped on and evasive manuevers were taken. The Hercules may have had a powerful warhead, but they were big and unwieldy, therefore easy to avoid. Their relatively obsolete RADAR systems were also easy to jam and/or confuse. Only two of the less manueverable and slower Frogfoots were turned into flames. The kills were mightly impressive though. The rest of the frogfoots dove for the Earth to blend in with ground clutter.

The Northern Theatre Command started to moove a lot of troops and equipment around and building fake warehouses. The number of small attacks and incursions was also raised, all this to give the Iranians the idea that Iraq would strike in the North.

The Central Theatre Command did the same as the Northern Command, only on a smaller scale. Units were seen on their way North and even the main Highway to the north was closed for 8 hours...

The Southern Theatre Command, tthe area were the decisive battle would be fought, was relativly quiet. Other than the normal Artillery Barrages from both sides, and small incursions along the front, nothing was happening really. The only movement seen was of Units heading North.

Inside Iran, Airfields were hit in the Western parts of the country. Tu-16 carpet bombed Runways with a mix of High Explosives and Penetrating Bombs.

Lt. Gen. Bashir was taking through teh Battle Plans with his Officers once again. They knew it by heart, the last couple of days had been full of briefings.

"Ok men, that's it. We know it all by heart. Heh, we could dream the entire plan. This simply can't go wrong.

On the other hand, it looks like the Shit has started in Europe. Reports tell us that the Soviets have attacked in Germany and Norway, though it isn't official. This is both good and bad.

It's bad because this means less support from our Western Allies, not too talk about our Soviet friends...*grins*

At the same time it is good because we can open another front for our Wetsern friends. If we manage to brin iran to it's knees, the NATO can attack via the Caucasus and Central Asia. I hope High Command sees this great chance..."

Norway Air Battle #1

"Evasive manuvers, missiles inbound," said Haakon. "They're going down, trying to blend in with ground clutter. Hit the deck!"

The Norwegian fighters cut in the afterburners to try and gain speed in light of the inbound missiles. Ironically, this time the little F-5s were having bad luck, due to them having much lower top speeds than the single-hole F-16s and F-104s. Five of the F-5s were downed, with the other planes barely able to escape the R-60s, and only because they were such short-range missiles.

"We'll deal with the fighters, 334 and 336 Squadron, take out those attack planes!"

The F-16s stayed with the MiGs, while the F-104s and F-5s dove after the Frogfoots. The F-104s caught up especially quickly, and many of their pilots had to throttle back; partly to avoid overspeed, and partly to not become a "ground nail" as the Luftwaffe had come to nickname them.

"They're not down there yet, select Sidewinders and resume fire!" said the lead pilot of the F-104 group. The remaining 12 F-104s and 9 F-5s fired off 21 Sidewinders at the Su-25s, leaving the planes with two Sidewinders and one Sparrow each, along with their guns.

Above them, the F-16s of 338 Squadron were hot on the tails of the MiGs, and launched a spread of 20 Sidewinders after them.

Norway Air Battle #2

The Nike batteries at Andøya and Bardufoss unleashed another volley of eight Nike-Hercules missiles at the incoming planes, but there weren't many left in reserve. The Hawk batteries were ready to fire, but unfortunately, due to their range, had to wait until the Soviet planes were closer to the base until they could be fired.

Meanwhile, the F-16s of 331 Squadron were the closest to the second air raid, and were coming up on range of their Sparrow missiles. Though they were outnumbered by the Soviets almost 3 to 1, the F-16s at least had better payload than the F-5s and F-104, and had a bit more time to get armed up before being sent out; six Sparrows and six Sidewinders each.

"Within range now," the lead pilot said. "The attack planes are going for the ground but they aren't there yet. Whoa, look at that!" he said, as he saw the exhaust plume of the eight Nike-Hercules SAMs racing towards the Soviet planes.

"All right, select Sparrow missiles, and open fire!"

The F-16s let off 20 Sparrow missiles, joining the Hercs and on a course to intercept the enemy planes.

IC: General Kim Sung-Nam stood on top of a large military bunker barely half a mile North of the DMZ. He looked out across the South Korean lines and then down to the amassed army. 150,000 men and 5,000 tanks ready as part of the first wave to strike directly at Seoul.

He raised his hand and the Tank engines coughed into life, he smiled and lowered his hand the Tanks lurched forward, rolling slowly forward across the roads towards South Korea.

He smiled as the first tank shells fired and landed on the South Korean and American bunkers, the Allies were not adequately prepared, but he had been taught about the last Korean war, the allies were not ready that time but the North had been pushed right back to China. He would not make the same mistake this time, he would hit the Americans with such a force they would be sent running back to Japan.

"Yes?" responded the PM
"It's the North, sir. It has begun. We're waiting orders" said a 40-year-old Major of Special Warfare Command, unable to hide his anxiety.
"Is FROKA(First Rep. Of Korea Army) ready?" asked PM.
"Yes sir." answered the Major.
"Ok then engage at will."

Minutes later, the KH-178 105mm and the KH-179 155mm started spitting fire, 200 M-48A5s and 150 88 Tanks (formerly called the K-1 tank)roared to face the NK tanks and M-113s with a few Fiat 6614 started transporting troops to the front while 35 500-MD helicopters were taking off to annihilate the NK tanks with their TOWs.

In the DMZ everyone was on high alert trying to take cover from the NK shell and simultaneously preparing 57mm, 75mm, 90mm, and 106mm recoilless rifles for antitank use and TOWs to stop the NK massive assault.

Already the first casualties had been counted. 15 dead and 48 wounded from the 2nd ROK division of FROKA.

"Jun, move the 3rd Armour South to support the initial wave and dispatch the Helicopter divisions to cover the advance, we don't want any nasty surprises." An anxious young officer approached the General and saluted. "Sir, the Australians have landed at Inchon" Nam smiled, "Ahh, an unexpected move, it is of no concern, continue the artillery fire on the DMZ positions, we still have a day or two before the Allies can form a strong line, we HAVE to break through by then or we might lose the initiative and be forced into a stalemate." He read the intial casualty reports, the North had lost 6 Tanks, 38 Men dead and 106 Injured.

The officer nodded and saluted and ran off, Nam stood and watched the far off explosions along the DMZ line. "The die is cast Jun, we can't turn back now"

The Dutch response to the soviet attack was one of great resentment. A small nation, Hollland was sure to be overun if west Germany was to fail.

The Minister of State Defense leaned back in his chair, and took a deep drag on his cigar. He eyed his assistant, and turned away. "Start up contact with the west Germans. Notify them that holland fully supports them. While your at it, see if we can get the Belgians to join in." The Minister relaxed as his assistant left the room. He reviewed his charts.

OOC: I cant find anything for the Dutch Millitary. Help anyone?

The Minister picked up the phone on his desk. "Marshall? I want those tanks in West German defensive positions ASAP! Be sure to wait for confirmation by the germans." Hanging up the phone, he calmly dialed again. "I dont give a shit!! Refuel those goddam planes and get them in the air! Its only a matter of time before the reds find a way at us!!"

The Prime Minister of Holland adjusted his tie, then calmly spoke to his cabinet. Full mobilization. This is an excecutive order. All reserves to stations. The ministers looked grim. "I kid you not gentlemen, we are at war. If we are to prevail over the red menace, we must hold Germany!" His fist slammed on the oak table with force. Now get those goddam reserves ready. Lets move!

Dutch radio stations praised the prime ministers announcement of full mobilization today. We are ready to fight! Now all that is left, is to see if our close allies of belgium will join the fight! The Finnish people had been waiting for this conflict to break out sooner or later. The army had been put on full alert and was waiting for orders. The newly elected President Mauno Koivisto looked out his window. He was going to address that Finland was going to war against Norway. In a matter of hours he would go on TV to announce his decision. Two men entered his room. One was a Colonel the other a Private. The Colonel looked at the Private. The Private nodded then blocked the door. Koivisto turned around to find Colonel Into Oskari, one of the many people who reported to him

"Oh Colonel Oskari you scared me for a moment."

Colonel Oskari raised his pistol. There was a sense of terror on President Kovisito's face. Colonel Oskair pulled the trigger and watched Kovisito scream then fall to the ground. The unknown Private looked at Colonel Oskari then opened the door. The pair walked out without being noticed. In two hours they found the dead body of the late President Koivisto.

For thirty minutes Prime Minister Kalevi Sorsa had become President of Finland. Kalevi didn't know that at all. He was on vacation to get away from the stress of the war. Beside him was his bodyguard, but this bodyguard was not going to match the force that was following them. The force was part of the special ops called Jaeger. A squad of five was following the Prime Minister. It was head by Sgt. Topias Ale. Sgt.Ale held his AK-47 and ordered his men to move forward. The squad encircled the Prime Minister and his bodyguard. Sgt. Ale gave a signal to his men. A private in Sgt. Ale’s squad put on a ski mask. Getting ready he had a nervous look in his eyes. Jumping in front of the Prime Minister he gripped his AK. Prime Minister Sorsa saw the man jump with a gun. His bodyguard was grabbing for his gun.

"Prime Minister Sorsa STOP!!! I'm from the Jaeger Brigade. President Koivisto has been assassinated. I'm here to bring extra support."

Prime Minister Sorsa looked suprised but also had a hint of sadness. He ordered his bodyguard to put the gun away. The bodyguard started to put his gun away when bullets hit all over his body. Sgt. Ale aimed for the bodyguard's head then pulled the trigger. The head became a bloody mess of tangled flesh. The Prime Minister Sorsa started to run away, but was stopped by the private. Sgt. Ale came up to Sorsa and pulled out his pistol. He aimed for the Sorsa's head. The cracks were heard around the silent forest. The Soviet Puppet Government was dead in Finland. The private came up to Sgt. Ale.

"Sir the men are burying the bodyguard."

"Good now help me with this body."

The private grabbed Sorsa's legs while Sgt.Ale grabbed the arms. They threw Sorsa into the hole, then buried him. Sgt. Ale and his men moved. Once the President was found they made an urgent search for Prime Minster Sorsa. Little did they know that Sorsa had been shot and buried. They searched for days without finding him or the bodyguard.

So far no news had been reported of the Prime Minister of President's death. A knocked on the door alerted General Aleksanteri.

Northern Front
Finnmark County, Norway

After several hours of non-stop driving, Generalmajor Magnuss Erikson's Brigade North was nearing the front. Not far behind them were the 14th and 15th Infantry Brigades. The short daylight time of the high latitudes was starting to fade, and it was very likely when the Norwegians met the Soviets, it would be dark outside. In the faint light, off in the distance Erikson could just make out clouds of dust and snow, being kicked up by the approaching Soviet armor.

Also in the faint light, Erikson, out of the corner of his eye, could see the Union Jack flying. It then occured to him that the U.K.'s 3rd Royal Commando Brigade had been in Finnmark at the time of the attack, practicing their winter exercises. Erikson directed his Geländewagen's driver to drive over to the British command tent.

He approached the British commander and announced, "Sir, Generalmajor Magnuss Erikson, Norwegian Brigade North. Ready to reinforce the line. Our 14th and 15th Infantry Brigades will be arriving soon," he paused. "I figured it would be best to inform you of our plans, sir." He then saluted, and walked out and back to his troops, who were gathering up.

After a few minutes of discussion, the Norwegian personnel began to fan out to their assigned positions, on a loose line running from the Lakesfjorden to the border with Sweden. As this was occuring, the 14th and 15th began to arrive, and Erikson informed their respective commanders of the plan. The heavy M109 Paladin 155mm self-propelled artillery guns began to form a line, some 40 strong, nearby the command tent. Infantry personnel moved forward in their Geländewagens, escorted by Leopard 1 tanks, M106 107mm self-propelled mortars, and M113 IFVs.

The only route for the Soviets to advance further into Norway was the narrow road which hugged the coast on the south end of the Lakesfjorden; the mountainous terrain all points south was pretty much impossible to be crossed by armor, and even infantry would have serious difficulty.

About ten kilometers forward of the command tent, across the road and flanking both sides, engineers frantically began blasting three rows of anti-tank ditches in the ground, each two kilometers apart, which would force the Soviet armor into bottlenecks, where infantry armed with ATGMs and recoilless-rifles could deal with them. Forward of each ditch, personnel set up anti-tank mines, which were set to be detonated as the Soviet armor got close. The Leopard 1s formed up a defensive line behind the ditches, ready to fire as the enemy approached, and ready move if the Reds broke through the line. Further back were the M106 self-propelled mortars and towed 4.2" guns, ready to bombard the Soviets with short-range artillery fire as they approached. From the nearby Porsanger Garrison came twelve 105mm towed howitzers, which would be situated between the light guns and the 155s.

The nearest air base, Bardufoss Air Station, would be used as an offloading point for Norway's C-130s, where equipment would be reloaded onto UH-1 helicopters to resupply the ground forces preparing to fight.

As the infantry had finished setting up at the anti-tank ditches, the Norwegians began firing long-range at the oncoming Soviets, unleashing a volley of 155mm shells from the artillery guns.

Nam stood in his command bunker, listening to the radio reports coming in from across the battlefront. It was mixed results, in some areas the Allies were holding the Northern advance and slowly driving them back. In others the North Korean forces were breaking through certain areas. Small gaps were beginning to appear in the South Korean lines.

Nam was renound across the North but he ordered a general halt to all advance units. "Consolidate all command positions, Tell the advanced units to halt and await the support units." He smiled and put a radio reciever to his mouth "Naval Units, move to engage Australian and Canadian Navies in South Korean waters, once these forces have been destroyed move to shell South Korean coastal fortifications"

He radio buzzed with static and the reply came "Yes Sir, Following Orders"

OOC: ill guess ill rp Belgium then...

Belgium has joined the fight, in a pact with holland. Like Holland, Belgium has agreed to a full mobilization of reserves. As a result, Dutch and Belgium borders are erased. History is in the making. ]

Belgium Prime Minister-

We have now agreed to fully support our Dutch borthers in this conflict. I propose to merge our states together, into one mighty kingdom, for the sake of defense and security, we so solely desire!

Dutch Prime Minister:

Holland and Belgium has hereby merged into the "Kingdom of Netherlands" Borders are erased, and our national treasuries have been merged, along with armed forces. I declare the national language as Dutch.

OOC; I could not find anything on even the populations on Belgium and Holland at the time. But I figure it is 16 million now, so it was probably about 14 million then, with belgium being about 11.8 million. So maybe lets call thier combined population at 30 million. That makes thier armed forces at about 900,000 combined.

President Li Xiannian and Premier Zhao Ziyang were meeting on the current situtation in Europe. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

"Come in." President Li said.
The door opened and in came one of Zhao's aides.
"Sir, we have received word that the North Koreans have begun to advance into South Korea. What are your orders?"
"Send three tank divisions and four infantry brigades to the North Korean border. Also bring up two artillery battalions. Secure the border no one comes in, and no one can go out."
"Yes sir."
"We will stay neutral for now. But we need to divert some of the factories to build weapons and tanks. We will need to build 650 Type 59-II tanks and start production on more asorted small arms."
"Yes sir."

On the border

General Ji Shengde was in control of the border units. When he receiced word that he was being sent more he quickly found positions for them. He was also messaged to close the border into North Korea. He reread the message to make sure he was certain. He then grabbed the radio and sent a message to all border post.

"This is General Ji Shengde speaking, orders from President Li. From now until peace has been declared or otherwise, the border with North Korea is to be closed. No refugees or immigrants are to be allowed crossings. Any attempts to cross the border should be handled with extreme measures. Close the gates and bar them, all who try to come through will be shot. You have your orders men, now do them."

All across the border the soldiers heard the message, and they did just that. The gates were closed and barred.

OOC: I've been reading the posts thus far in this thread, and I have a few things to point out.

1. Understand that ships, especially transports, take quite a bit of time to get to a particular destination, especially if it's on the other side of the ocean, because of their inherent lack of speed. We're still on the first day of the war (late in the day), many of these ships won't arrive for several days, maybe a week or more. Be paitent, it many take a while.

2. RPing what happens to other player's roles is a big no-no on NationStates; for instance, posting about what their losses are, what their military's actions are, how they react to a situation, etc. This is otherwise known as godmodding/godmodeing.

3. To Maldorians: Canada doesn't have the HMCS Bonaventure anymore in this timeframe, it was broken up in 1971 for scrap. For this RP, we're in the year 1983.

4. To New Ausha: As the coup d'etat in Finland only occured hours before, it is likely Holland has not yet heard news of the event. Therefore, it is also unlikely they have concluded on a course of action (though it appears likely they will be striking against the Soviets by Canadstein's post).

5. In response to Maldorians' question as to the fighting in Europe: I am playing as Norway, Wanderjar is the United States, Red Tide2 is the Soviet Union, and WinTrees is the United Kingdom. There are a few other players, but have not thus far posted in the IC thread. Currently, fighting has occured due to Soviet attacks in far northern Norway, as well as the Northern Plains and through the Fulda Gap in West Gemany.

I'm just trying to help make this a better RP.

To the thread mod, as for me posting reactions, well when I launch an attack, (such as on my attack on Pukchong) noboy seemed to even notice, so the only way to get the other players to react, is to post thier reaction, unless they wish it different. If this is still day 1, this RP is going WAY too slow, I would know, i;ve hosted my share of these kinda threads, and it will come apart. Anyway, I am the KON, 240,000 troops of mine are moving into west germany, and 20,000 are on thier way to south korea. A dutch outpost has launched a bomber attack on Nampo. A submarine pack is on its way to the sea of japan. As for holland, belgium and luxemborg merging into one kingdom, I figured nobody would be interested in these countries, so I will gladly take them all.

OOC: the Dutch did have heavy bombers, (however few) for expeditionary purposes.

OOC: Really? I mean, I didn't research it, it just seemed kind of odd to me that the Dutch would have heavy bombers. Can you tell me what type they are, because typically a heavy bomber would be something like a B-52 or a Tu-95, and I've never heard of them having anything that big. I wouldn't be suprised if they had any E.E. Canberras or similar planes.

If this is still day 1, this RP is going WAY too slow.

Well, I think by about now, we should be getting into the second day in terms of already-deployed troop movements in Europe. Though in specific battles, the RP-time doesn't advance at a real specific rate (my two air battles have barely started, for example), so I may not be the best person to determine what time it really is in the RP.

I'd wait for Wanderjar to get back, see what he has to say about the situation.

IC: Nam sat in his command bunker, yawning, he had only managed to get a few hours sleep and it was showing, he was being informed of ariel attacks at Nampo and Puckchang, the North Korean Airforce was large but only about 20 of their fighters were of any real use to intercept bombers.

North Korean losses were rising sharply, although they had broken through the line directly north of Seoul, they had lacked the necassery reinforcements to consolidate and had been forced back to the bunkers. Now they were waiting for another order to advance.

They have the task of defending their area of responsibility that ranges from the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) to the Seoul metropolitan area. They each consist of an army command and several corps commands, divisions and brigades. These armies, in order to prepare for surprise attacks and high-speed maneuver warfare launched by North Korea, deploy ROK-model tanks, a variety of firearms, TOWs and surface-to-air missiles along the major route that connects the DMZ to Seoul. The NK Tanks were holding their ground but without infantry and ariel support they would not be able to make any more advances. While battles were raging all around the world, High Command had decided that first Iraq needed to take care of Iran. The Intensity of Bombardments had increased. The men were ready, and waited anxiously for teh offensive to start. If it was succesfull, the Northern Theatre and Central Theatre would join in the offensive. Everything was ready, as the Victorious Day arrived. Soon, this war would be over, and perhaps a new war would have to be fought...

0029 Hours, Border with Iran near Basra

It was a quiet night, there was no moon. It was cloudy, perfect for an offensive. It was so quiet, the Iranian Soldier thought. So quiet. I love this place at night. *hears a soft sound* Wait, What's that!

The quiet Night turned into hell as Hundreds of Artillery pieces opened fire. The first to be hit were the frontline trenches and bunkers. Dozens were killed in the first barrage as the survivors tried to warn their commanders and other units. A few seconds later the next barrage hit the Iranian Positions. These were different though. Some exploded as shells were supposed to, but other just hit the ground with a pop and a soft hissing sound. Before the Iranians knew what ahhpened they were dead, or seriously wounded. Meanwhile teh Barrage went on with regular shells, at times mixed with shells filled with Chemical Weapons. High Above Mig 21's, 23's and Tu-16's headed for Iranian Airfields close by...

About 25 Miles to East, 4 Iranian F14's saw the Explosions to the west. They didn't knew exactly what was going on but they warned their base and turned to the west. Before long they had picked up enemy planes on their radars. As they tried to get a Lock on the planes, they were locked themselves. They broke formation and each went another way, with 3 Missiles each following them. Two were hit and the other two managed to get away.

The Night was far from over...

We have a tactical bomber squadron ready to strike the fuel reserves at Nampo." The colnel crushed the piece of paper. "If the south agrees, cease the attack. If not, commence bombing. As for our air units, I want those northern tanks pushing forward targeted.

The Dutch jets engines ignited in the afternoon. The sky was pink, and the pilots ready. From the airbase, dozens of fighters flew off.

"Maintain vector, our tareget is the advanced armored corps, of the KPA. They have no anti-air utilities, so danger is at a minimum."

Sung handed Nam an urgent message from Pyongyang, he read it and his face dropped "They can't be serious!"

Sung shook a little from fear "S...Sir the message is from Kim Il Sung himself"

Nam sighed and nodded "Comms, put me through to the SK commander" The comms officer looked puzzled "You heard me soldier!" "Sir, Yes Sir!"

Message to SK Commander in Chief

This is General Nam, supreme commander of all the Peoples Forces in the DMZ area. I have been ordered by my superiors to offer terms for a ceasefire and talks to...." he paused and sighed "talks to unify our shattered nation Please respond with all haste"
Msg/Reply to NK Commander Gen. Nam

The only terms we accept is unconditionaled surrender and full disarm to a minimum size army (like japs or germans after WW2)

Gen. Yok Dam Nang, Chief of SK Ministry of War

A few minutes after sending this message a young lieutenant of SROKA came in with a dossier in his hands.
"Sir, i have good and bad news" he said cheerfully.
"Start with the good news" he replied.
"The good news is that NK army has reached its limits and can no longer act offenively, especially since our allies are so close."
"I know that. They just sent me a telegram. And the bad news?" Nang enquired.
"Unfortunately, in the bombings of Inchon the port was so badly damaged that the allied ships have to dock at Taech'on losing about 4-5 hours from the front. Also in the bombings of Inchon more than 2000 souls were lost...erhm..."he hesitaded.
"....including your wife, sir."he finished.
"What?!. This...this cant be. But didnt you send someone to take the to a safer city as i told you????" said Nang unable to hold his rage.
"Yes sir, i did but the jeep that was carring them fell under enemy fire on the way to Suwon." answered the young officer.
"Dismissed" and just as the lieutenant was leaving he burst into tears.

In the field, the young SK soldiers were eventually overcoming their fear of the NK heavy tanks and many heroic solders were rushing to throw frag nades in the turrets when their anti-tank ammo finished. They had hold the North but at a huge blood price. Over 300 soldiers and 10 officers were lying dead and 500 were wounded or crippled. In the next few days they were planning to reorganise and counter-attack with the help of Canadian and Australian units.

The Dutch ambassador arrived in Pyongyang. He made his way through the empty streets with his entourage. He promptly arrived at a goverment building to negotiate a re-unification effort with the North Korean officials.

The Dutch bombers approached Nampo. "Arm bombs, lets blow those little fuckers up!" Cheers could be heard over the radio.

The 14th cavalry brigade arrived in Seoul. "Hello general" the commander outstreched his hand, and was met by a brsik shake by the Canadian general. He motioned towards a building.

Once inside, he began to focus intently. "General, you command the Canadian forces, in South Korea, correct?" He nodded. The Dutch commander threw a large map over the table. It outlined A several pronged attack with many differnt color arrows. "I suggest, if peace cannot be reached, an all out air campaign on Pyongyang and Nampo, along with armor advances up tp the DMZ. From there, artillery positions can be erected, and we can strike the industrial heartland. This is of course, if a peaceful resolution cannot be reached." He grinned.

Meanwhile, in airfields near the border H-6A medium bombers were being loaded with 20,000 lbs. of free fall bombs. Their fighter escorts were also being fueled for the mission. December 9, 1983 Outside of Helsinki 17:00

It had been three days since they buried the late President Mauno Koivisto. The third day for the search of Prime Minister Sorsa, but General Aleksanteri knew that the police would never find Sorsa. In a couple days they would give up the search. Looking at his watch it would be time to perform the next act of plan. He knew that some of the army would try to fight against his new army, but he control most of the military. All, but a few of the military officers were loyal to him. He knew he had the support of the 4 Jaeger brigades, Armoured Brigade, a couple of the Infantry brigades, and the Helicopter Battalion. Now was the time that the White Guard would rise to fight those red bastards. He looked at himself in a mirror. Alesksanteri was dressed in his military uniform. Walking out of his office he walked up a flight of chairs then into a car.

December 9, 1983 Helsinki 17:30

The car stopped at the desination. Aleksanteri walked out and entered the building. It was one of the few news network buildings in Finland. Walking besided Aleksanteri were two men part of the Jaeger brigade. Both men gripped their Rk 62. The workers inside were stunned, but did not try to stop Aleksanteri. Once in the apporiate studio Alesksanteri watched a man give the daily news. The one Jaeger blocked the door and the other kept watch in the control room to make sure everything moved smoothly. Alesksanteri walked on and the newsman saw the Jaeger with the RK 62. The newsman quickly walked away from his desk. Alesksanteri sat where the newsman had. He looked straight into the camera.

"This is General Tauno Aleksanteri of the Finnish Army. I'm coming today to announce a new day for Finland. A new day for Finland and the Finnish people . Today we cut down the YYA Treaty. No longer will this Communist in Russia try as like fools. The former President Mauno Koivisto was going to side with the Soviets in this war and no longer be a neutral state. President Koivisto was a puppet and the puppeteer is in the Red Square. Today I call all ties to Soviet Union be severed. Today the Finnish Defense Army will be known as the Finnish White Guard. Any army unit not joining this new army will be known as traitors. Make your decision now. You will be either with me or against me. A vote for a new president will occur in Jaunary. For now I will take the office."

General Aleksanteri got up and the camera was turned off. The two Jaegars followed him and they went back to the bunker. Once back in his bunker he typed a letter that would be rushed to Norway.

Dear Prime Minister Kåre Willoch,

This is General Aleksanteri of the Finnish White Guard, formerly know as the Finnish Defense Army, and temporary President of Finland. Today I have gotten rid of the YYA Treaty and have made a war to get rid of any communist in Finland. I know this turn into a civil war, but I control most of the army. So the civil war should be over within a month. I will let you know that Finland was no intention of joining the Soviet Union in this war. Once the war is over our country will a have a election. I must say that we will still be neutral, but will be willing to make Finland a safehaven for your cizitens.

From,
General Aleksanteri

December 9, 1983 Somewhere in the Baltic Sea 23:00

Utti Jaeger Regiment was the main special force of Finland. They wore no badges of a regiment, but only wore a Finnish flag. They were in a convoy of ships which comprised of their speciality helicopters. They brought eight Mil Mi-8 and hoped that the Norwegians would supple some planes because they were also airborne. 700 men were on the way and hoped that they could help the Norwegians. They hoped that the Norwegians would give them badges to make seem like Norwegians. Sgt.Ale was aboard one of the ships. He looked at his squad. The lead boat sent a secret message to Norway telling them that they board help in the form of a special ops group. Sgt. Ale knew it was a matter of time before he saw combat.

We greatly appreciate your offer of a refuge for our citizens in the face of the Soviet attack. It is probable that there may be upwards of 60,000 refugees from this initial attack, we hope you will be able to accomodate for them, as we are unaware of what, if anything, is left of their homes.

Soon after, Willoch recieved the encoded message from the Finnish special forces from their transport ships in the Baltic. After consulting with members of Defense Staff Norway, as well as the King himself, he sent a response.

The closest convenient port accessable to your force is in Oslo, northwards up the Oslofjorden. This is also relatively close to Gardermoen Air Station, which is where our group of C-130s is currently deployed.

Off the coast at Haeju

"Sir, the one hour wait time is up."
"Alright, prepare for the amphibous landings. Start the naval bombardment of Haeju."

OOC: Using this map: http://uk.geocities.com/hkgalbert/kpmap28.jpg
IC:
With that order the guns opened fire. The amphibous tanks and troop transports headed towards the city. The intial wave of 10,000 men and 100 amphibous landed on the coastline. The second wave was already on its way in.
The men fought against medium North Korean MG nests and bunkers that the bombings didn't destroy. They soon gained a upper hand on the North Korean forces taking West Haeju and Jongdo.
The second wave landed father to the east near Haejuchongnyon. They unfortuneatly meet stiffer resistance. The amphibous tanks attacked MG nests and bunkers. The men quickly made it pass the first waves and into Hak Pass.
The thrid and fourth waves landed to the west taking every thing from the sea to Pyoksong. Now nearly 45,000 marines and 450 tanks occupy Haeju and the surrounding areas. Takeing only 300 dead and 1,000+ wounded and lossing 3 tanks to enemy fire and 2 the malfunctions.

Task Force 2 was launched and on its way to reinforce the marines. Estimated time 8 hours to get there and 3 hours to deploy the full force.

North Korean/Chinese border

The artillery barrage continues as Q-5's attack artillery positions behind the lines. The H-6A bombers were loaded and fueled, so was their escorts. They took off from their air bases and headed inside North Korea. Four targets were choosen for these attacks: Sinuiju, Kanggye, Hyesan, and Ch'ongjin. Five bombers with ten J-6 fighters were to be sent to attack each. Once these attacks began they were met with AA gun fire. After relesing their total payloads they returned to their airbases. Three J-6 fighters were shot down and one H-6 bomber was wounded by AA fire and soon fell fro the sky.

Nam sat silently in his bunker as the commotion of war rattled all around him, a single tear rolled down his cheek as the news came in of the Chinese attacks. "So we find ourselves betrayed, The Chinese have no honour!"

Then the message came through from Pyongyang "All forces to lay down arms and surrender to Western Allied Powers"

Nam nodded and gave the order his heart was broken but he could not go against a direct order from the dear leader.

"This is General Nam of the Peoples Republic of North Korea. We surrender to the Western Allies with the understanding that all POW's will be returned to North Korea and all occupying troops will behave in a respectful manner"

He sighed "I am also instructed to inform you that Kim Il Sung has ordered all North Korean soldiers to be put at the disposal of the UN to use against....Against the USSR as they see fit"

He had a sick feeling in his stomach as the message was sent to Seoul and Beijing

IC: After the SK PM had announced thein winning over the North, a huge party was in the South Korean cities. Everyone was happy about the ending of the war, but some families were grieving over their lost members. The total losses of about 5000 dead and 7000 wounded seemed not so serious since the war had ended very quickly and they could be easily be replaced.

The SK army took some of the NK soldiers to rebuild what the had destroyed in the last week. The people were trying to continue their lives from where they had stopped. The inhabitats of northern SK cities were back in their homes only to find them demolished. The PM asked the UN and other nations for humanitarian aid not only for them but for their enemies too.

However, in a few days the ROKA would have to take offensive actions again, only this time against a stronger and bigger enemy, the USSR.

Finaly, Korea would be united again....

Our primary focus at the moment is in Finnmark county in the far north, the front of the main Soviet attack. Due to the very rugged terrain, there is only one useable route for large numbers of ground forces in armored vehicles to advance, a highway on the south coast of the Lakesfjorden, and this is where our defense is being assembled.

There are, however, very narrow and difficult trails through the mountains, which could be used by small groups of infantry, on foot. We had planned to fly your special forces, by C-130, to Bardufoss Air Station, using it as a staging base, where personnel could load up on helicopters and fly east towards the front, traveling through the deep valleys, where they would be next to impossible to detect on radar. It is hoped that they could make their way, undetected, behind the Soviet lines, where they would attack the rear of the Reds' advance, which combined with the defensive fire against their front, could potentially trap the Soviet forces, or at least seriously hinder their progress.

Your forces will be supplied with indentification which is used by the Norwegian Army Special Operations Command, members of which we will also be sending north to aid your forces.

Thank you. We request the NK officials to be immidietly handed over to us, as they are to be taken the Brussels for trial. As for the bombings, the ambasadors mission was a one of peace, as we had contacted the NK forces concerning his arrival and intentions. The war was raging at the time, and i'd like to point out, that NK forces were cutting down our infantry at the same time.

As for the NK leadership, I request they be taken to a non-biased neutral nation such as Switzerland, to be tried for thier crimes, listed below:

-Attacking a nation wihtout reason
-The murder of 2,372 soldier of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
-Costing the KON a masive amount of millitary surplus, and currencial utility
-Reckless use of conventional millitary utility of SK civilians
-Stockpiles of illegal "unconventional" weaponry

The KON immideietly demands war repirations from the now occupied north to be paid to the following states:
(percentage of repirations to be divided as suggested)
-The Kingdom of the netherlands 30%
-The peoples Republic of China 20%
-Austrailian Commonwealth 20%
-Canada 30%

The KON is hereby stationing an occupation force of 35,000 soldeirs. They will occupy areas such as Haeju, Nampo, Pyongyang, Wonson, Kaesong, Kumgangsong. We will aid in the de-millitarazation of the North.
