News quickly spread throughout the United Federation of Eurasia. That Moorington Afghanistan has fell into chaos and its ripe for taking. The 16th Army Corp and 17th Army Corp were assigned to conquer the regions and being them under Eurasian rule. Afghanistan was to be united under the banner of Eurasia; it was great day for the federation.

The first phase of the assault on the Ex-Moorington lands of Afghanistan, was a massive air strike on enemy bases and arms deports. These air strikes were carried out by 200 A-10s and 20 AC-130U Spooky, they were design to demoralize the enemy, with non stop air raids and strikes against their locations, as they made their attack runs. A 100 F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" were assign to patrol the skies and maintain air superior of the area. They air strikes were going to last about a week before the ground forces could enter the area. Just beginning the conquest of Afghanistan …

The sixteen men sat comfortably but straight inside the briefing room at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina. "Alright gentlemen. Clam down. This will only take a few hours. As you are aware, the United Federation of Eurasia has begun its unification of Afghanistan. You will all recall that the Empire has assisted the UFE in the past with Afghanistan but that stalemate is ancient history to us. We're once again going to commit forces to this conflict but on a much smaller scale. You sixteen men will go in via airdrop from a C-17 Globemaster III. You will link up with two Eurasian guides who will assist all of you with terrain and routes and so on and so fourth. You will all rendezvous at Khowst, shown here on the map.

http://www.theforsakenoutlaw.com/Graphics/Nation-States/Role-Playing/One%20Afghanistan/map-small.jpg (http://www.theforsakenoutlaw.com/Graphics/Nation-States/Role-Playing/One%20Afghanistan/map-big.jpg)

"You will pick up your transportation there, which will be in the form of two armored vehicles, an M2A4 Bradley IFV and an M2015A1 Cobra APC. You can seat up to 25 people total between the two vehicles so you will be quite comfortable. The mission plans for them to be deployed by C-17 as well and they will actually be flying with you gentlemen and dropped with you. You are to ensure that these vehicles remain in your possession throughout the entire time. Should it be deemed necessary to destroy them to prevent them from coming into the hands of the enemy you shall do so.

"Rules of engagement are going to be very clear here. You will shoot enemies on sight and self-defense is primary. Your mission is to assist Eurasian forces in securing several provinces of Moorington. Air support will be available through your guides in the form of F/A-18s and A-10s, as far as I am aware, at the moment. That could change with time. You can expect hostiles to be rag-tag but do not underestimate them. They may just be rebels with assault rifles and old grenades but they also know their terrain very well. The Eurasian guides will be your best asset but you must not let them fall into the hands of the enemy. Is that understood?"

"Yes sir." The two team leaders repeated in unison, taking notes as they listened to the briefing.

"Alright. Now with that in mind, the only other information I can give at this time is that the terrain will be unforgivable. Expect rugged mountains with crappy roads and trails. The enemy has an intricate labyrinth of caves and tunnels that must be cautiously heeded. The Eurasians will be fighting fiercely and bravely but they do not fight like we fight. To them this is destiny and history. To us it is aide. We're here to help and we will help but I do not expect any one of you to put your lives over theirs. Your mission parameters include staying alive and returning here in one piece. Should you do that you will be rewarded but if you come back bravely, upon your shield, so to speak, you will be honored like so many before you. That's it. Good luck gentlemen."

Within two hours they were airborne, flying inside of a C-17A Globemaster III. The aircraft was a beast, heavily laiden with fuel, sixteen heavily armed soldiers, and two vehicles. The C-17 could still carry another 26.495 tons of cargo inside of their large bellies and that gave them a slight edge that they needed. Because they weren't carrying a full load they had a slightly extended range. The distance was roughly 7,500 miles, a long journey that would take several hours flying at 515 miles per hour, a total of 15 hours. They would land in Ireland on the way back to avoid spending 30 hours in flight. There were only two pilots and that was a long way to fly. If this had been a full blown, total war, they would be flying with two crews and each crew would take care of one way. Even still, the C-17 only had a range of 3,200 miles and they would need to refuel twice on the way and once on the way back. It was going to be a demanding mission, a very demanding mission but the pilots would do their job perfectly. The flight path of the C-17 would take them up and over Greenland, the Scandinavian Peninsula, Russia, Fourth Reich land, TOA land, and across Eurasian land. Moorington Afghanistan was surrounded by Eurasian territory, territory that was about to expand by some 95,513 square miles.

The flight was long, very long, and the men made sure that they rested accordingly. They studied the terrain, the intelligence briefs. Some cleaned their weapons, others read, some rested and slept. They were machines, more or less, trained so highly that they were feared by many armies. Some of the foes they went up against, even their "equals" were not equals. They were on a level far higher than that of their enemies and this was shown through by each and every action and conflict they entered. Delta Force was the most elite of the Special Operations Forces branch of the military and they were beyond capable. Their missions included strike, reconnaissance, target spotting, demolitions, kidnappings, and so on and so fourth. They were crafty veterans and skilled warriors.

When they parachuted into Khowst from 1,500 feet, they were celebrated warriors but they would come out as forged heroes. None of them had ever been to Afghanistan before and both teams had fought in fewer conflicts then their comrades, mainly because of timing. They were lucky, thus far, but now they would be thrown into the fire of the beast, a dragon of immense proportions that could do nothing short of annihilate them. They maintained the advantage though, despite being 7,500 miles from home, in some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world.

Afghanistan really was an empire of nothing. Terrain was rugged, landlocked, and mountainous, containing most of the Hindu Kush mountains. There are four major rivers in the country: Amu Darya, Hari Rud, and the Kabul and Helmand Rivers. The terrain was mostly rugged mountains - the Hindu Kush and connected ranges; plains in north and southwest and large areas of sandy desert near the southern border with Pakistan. The temperature could plummet way below 0°F at night and soar to over 120°F during the day. It was a land of dirt, pure nothingness. There were oil reserves to the northern part, which had only been taped by the Eurasians. The Moorish government was too poor and corrupt, underdeveloped and ignorant, to have tapped those within their own territories. In the far southern parts of the land there were plains, mainly from the Iranian plateau. Where they were going, it was mountains, everywhere.

After a weeks worth of air raids and strikes against the enemy, which has weaken their defenses and holdings over key regions within Moorish Afghanistan. Eurasian High Command, give the go ahead for ground operations to began, when the order was given. Moorish Afghanistan, was under attack from all sides 8 divisions of the Eurasian army were now marching into the Moorish lands, their goal was to take it all for Eurasia.

First the 16th Army Corp orders were to sweep from the southern Eurasian Afghanistan; the corp. was made up of four army divisions. Their prime goal was to take all of central Moorish Afghanistan and meet up with the 17th Army Corp in the north. The 17th Army Corp orders were to sweep from the Northern Eurasian Afghanistan; the corp. was also made up of four army divisions.

Khowst was of the first regions of Moorish Afghanistan to face the wrath of Eurasian Army, the 20th Division of the 17th Army Corp was assign to take the region. The assault began with Ka-52 HOKUM B / Alligator Attack Helicopter began to lay down cover fire for the MI-24P (MI-25 AND MI-35) HIND ATTACK/TRANSPORT HELICOPTER)s to land and deploy the first wave of troops who carry out their missions of taking key roads and bridges for the ground army to come in. After 4 hours of taking out any signs of rag tag Moorish forces, the all clear was given for the armored regiments to began to enter and secure the region.

The first three days were rough. Eurasian fighter-bombers and attack helicopters tore through Moorish defenses and strategic targets, bombing anything of importance back to the Stone Age, though that may have been an upgrade for the Moorish military, which was in poor shape to begin with, especially in comparison to either the Eurasian or Layartebian networks. The two Layartebian "Delta Force" teams had met up with their Eurasian guides, Lieutenant Ivazzade Yusef bin Seyyed and Captain Mohsen Makhmalbaf, just two hours after retrieving their transportation. They had affectionately come to calling them Lieutenant Yusef and Captain Mohsen, only because that was far easier than saying their whole name. Both vehicles were fully loaded with munitions and supplies, so much in the Cobra that they would have to squeeze in, uncomfortably. This was war, there was no time for creature comforts and they knew it. They were used to roughing it, everywhere they went.

The first target was an ammunition and fuel depot just sixty-four miles west of Baraki, in the Lowgar province. It was a long trip for them and they were traversing some unfriendly terrain that, as LT. Yusef explained, was loaded with mines, lots of them, ancient ones, but powerful enough to shatter the tracks or tires on their vehicles. "The mines are," LT. Yusef said through his thick Arab accent, "old and probably disarmed. But we can't chance it."

"No. We can't. These mines. They will tear us to pieces." CPT. Mohsen said, his Persian accent being more than noticeable.

"Alright. Well then what route should we take?" CPT. Trejo said as he looked at the map inside the the Cobra APC. Gunfire echoed in the distance as mortars and artillery echoed throughout the whole mountain range. They progressed onward as the guide spotted them through a northerly route that would come down and attack via a southernly course. They would hit the depot from its blind side. The soldiers would expect a frontal attack from advancing armies and that was evident. As the Cobra and Bradley turned around the last bend, approaching the depot from its rear, an RPG shot across the mountain road, missing by well over 100 meters. The soldiers were unprepared and the shot was a panic shot. Immediately, the soldiers went into attack mode and trained their massive HMG and Chainguns on the depot, blasting six mortar positions and one RPG position in a single shot. Whistles and screams echoed as the Bradley and Cobra stopped abruptly, lowering their rear doors. Four men from each vehicle tore out leaving behind the two guides and four other men. Each Delta team was split into two squads and while one stayed with the vehicle, using its armor, protection, and superior firepower to distract the enemy, the other squads worked to flank the depot from the sides. The Moorish soldiers were more than caught off guard.

As the two Delta squads came down from the sides, shooting their suppressed weapons accurately and effectively, from ranges not in excess of 100 meters, the Bradley and Cobra opened up again and destroyed a pair of Ural trucks, both of which were armed with light machine guns. They were destroyed instantly by fewer bullets than expected. The high explosive rounds from the Bradley's Chaingun tore through two more positions as the Delta squads attacked the depot from its perimeter. They both were coordinated well and opened up on the Moorish soldiers from only a few meters away. The Moorish soldiers had nothing more than fear in their eyes. In contrast, the Delta Operators had determination in theirs and as they ripped through the 60 or so soldiers at the depot, they felt no remorse whatsoever for them. When they were done, they had only one thing left to do and after seizing some supplies, rations, and explosives from the depot, they set at least fourteen separate charges, using Moorish explosives rather than their own. From a range of 500 meters, they detonated the explosives and lit up the entire mountain pass. "Where to now?" One of the soldiers asked.

"Kabul. Their capital." LT. Yusef said, relaxing inside the Cobra APC. With full fuel tanks, they were on their way again, to Kabul, through the most treacherous and dangerous roads in the entire portion of Moorish Afghanistan.

The 16th Army Corp was making good progress in the Southern half of Moorington Afghanistan; they were cleaning the floor of Moorish forces in the area. They didn’t stand a chance to superior firepower and might. They were busy trying to crush and all remaining Moorish forces in the Zabol region, after they had to orders to enter the central regions and crush all remaining elements of the Moorish forces in the area.

As for the 17th Army Corp was facing heavy resistance from the Moorish forces in the regions around Kabul, their seat of government. It was do the fact, that Moorish forces around Kabul were best trained and had the best equipment, yet they stood no match for the Eurasian forces. Round the clock bombing in the surrounding regions of Kabul, in order to weaken and crush any strongholds that Moorish forces might hold in the area, Eurasian High Command wanted to take the city intact so they quickly build up as the seat of government for Eurasian Afghanistan. For the next 24 hours, non stop bombing was in effect for the region.

The fire fight began some eighty miles from Kabul, on a road that was barely traversable by horse, let alone two armored vehicles. Moorish soldiers darted from cave to cave, taking pot shots at the armored vehicles with sniper rifles and assault rifles. Six RPGs had flown across the ground, not one making an impact on a vehicle. With their thermal sights, the vehicles targetting no fewer than 40 soldiers running through a cave network, embedded deep inside of the caves on the mountain pass. Their fired off a few dozen rounds, hoping to collapse the caves but it didn't work. The soldiers were just too fast and too well adjusted to this type of scoot-and-shoot fighting. It had gone that way throughout the remainder of their trip and something that should have taken a mere four hours took eleven.

Arrival on scene in Kabul was something that they dreaded. They were ahead of the Eurasian main armored and army force but the 17th Army Corp had broken out and reached the city ahead of them. Now it was up to them to take two objectives within the city. The first was a governmental palace inside the southern sector of the city and the second was to occupy the palace until Eurasian forces could arrive. The best estimates on the palace put no fewer than 240 guards, most of them fanatics who would rather die than surrender.

Eurasian forces of 17th Army Corp.were fighting their way thought the outer urban areas of Kabul, the fighting was intense, the Moorish forces were not giving up a inch of ground without making the Eurasian bleed for it. The Eurasian Commanders called in for more air support in order to crush Moorish strongholds and kill zones, wave after waves of A-10s pounded away the Moorish strongholds and smashed many buildings in the process of crushing the Moorish forces.

The Eurasian forces were attacking from all four sides, they had encircled the city and slowly but surely forcing they’re way into the city. It was quite a scene to see Eurasian soldiers with artillery and armored support ruthlessly crush the pitifully Moorish forces, yet the Moorish were putting up one hell of a fight and were forcing the Eurasian to bleed quite a bit. They didn’t want to make the battle of Kabul a walk in the park…

"Alright, we're set now. The flanking maneuver is going to work like this. We've got well over a dozen ways into and out of the palace but we have only one objective. We can expect heavy resistance in the palace and that undoubtedly means, to us, that we ought to formulate this one way and one way only. We're going to work with twelve in and four out. Both guides will be with us. Squad B of Team 30 will stay with the vehicles and provide ultimate cover for us. We're going in three squads with these attack points." Shells lobbed overhead and landed hundreds of meters away. They exploded on the far side of the palace, at least a half mile away. "The Eurasians are getting close so we have limited time. Squad A of Team 30 you are going to enter via the southern courtyard. Squad A of Team 14, we're going in via the northern gardens. Squad B of Team 14, you're going in via the eastern parade grounds. We've got a lot of square footage here and we'll have a lot of resistance so be careful and meticulous. We don't need the leaders to escape, we need them alive and captured."

They geared up and pushed the Cobra and the Bradley towards the paalce only about two hundred meters away. They stopped short of the palace, immediately taking fire. An RPG bounced right off the front hull of the Cobra but the shooter didn't get a chance to reload as a five-round burst of 15.5 x 115 millimeter shells tore him to pieces and those around him. The battle had started and the Delta Operators were moving to their designated attack points. They had to get there as quickly as possible and they needed to make sure that when they got there, they linked up. They were using their elite Land Warrior system, linking each and every one of them to the soldiers still in the vehicles.

They had night vision, thermal vision, and light amplification on their visors, which resembled Oakley sunglasses. In addition, they had a small laser ranging device that allowed them to find out just how far away their targets were. They could switch to small cameras on their weapons and look around corners and fire safely and securely. The night was descending on the city and the country and they were going to attack immediately, while the sun set in the background. Their enemy was vigilant and dangerous.

They sat at their designated attack points with the dull sounds of gun, rocket, and artillery fire in the background. The city was being seiged and seiged hard. Aircraft buzzed and roared overhead, shaking the ground from their engines and their bombs. Helicopters tore through the air, using their powerful FLIR and guns to take out enemy targets all around the city while taking their own fire in the process.

Finally, at 18:50 hours, Captain Trejo immediately and prompted initiated the assault. "Go! Go!" The three teams assaulted instantly. They took fire immediately from palace guards and they were going to push hard, very hard.

Eurasian Forces were slowed by the street to street fighting for Kabul, it was going to take long then expected more units were called in to aid in crushing the Moorish hold on the city. At the same time as the Eurasian forces were fighting for Kabul, the 16th Army Corp was progressing rapid thought the Southern regions of Moorish Afghanistan, it was because the Moorish Government didn’t have much of hold outside of Kabul and they just allow warlords to maintain law and order for those regions.

The palace was littered with bodies and debris after a mere five minutes of fighting. In the crossfire, two 155 millimeter artillery projectiles impacted the compound. The explosion was devestating, sending shrapnel for hundreds of meters. The two rounds landed only six meters from the entry point in the southern courtyard. The two rounds tore MSG. Donnery to shreds and injured the other three, 1SG. Jason Pryers, 1SG. Glenn Green, and CPT. Arnold Hastly. CPT. Hastly's ears still rung minutes later as they scrambled to their feet. They could hear everything but it was all drowned out. Shouts and screams from the enemy were muffled and they were as disoriented as Squad A of Team 30, all of whom were thrown no less than ten meters away. CPT. Hastly struggled to his feet and blinked twice, hard. He shook his head and fell back over again, his leg bleeding from a piece of shrapnel, a superficial wound but a stinging one. He raised his rifle to his shoulder as he sat on the ground and shot three enemies coming around the corner. They fell hard.

CPT. Trejo got on the radio immediately after the shells hit but his words weren't heard until well after the shells hit. "30-A. Report in. Report in." He repeated the call several times over and over and over. A minute after CPT. Hastly came to his senses, his calls were answered.

"30-A. We're hurt. Need medic immediately." Things had definitely gone bad. Fighting in the rest of the compound was nowhere near tapering off and the debris from the fighting was making everything that much harder. Smoke filled everywhere and the stench of burning flesh filled the corridors. Without any choice, the ground units were moved to the entrance to the southern courtyard. Eurasian forces were moving in quickly and the SOF teams had an objective, to capture the Moorish leader who was, definitely, inside the compound. There were hundreds of palace guards there, an elite fighting force who were definitely capable and trained. With one fatality and three casualties. The two first sergeants were hurt badly. 1SG. Pryers had a piece of debris in his arm making it useless and 1SG. Green was unconscious.

When the two vehicles pulled up, they were immediately stopped from deploying their forces. Palace guards hit the roof of the Bradley with a pair of RPGs, both of which did little damage but did slow them down. The Bushmaster II chain gun was opened up and it tore them and their 3rd floor room to shreds. The HMG of the Cobra opened up as well and the sound of the gunfire was deafening. Two men poured out seconds later as 1SG. Pryers exited the door, his arm bleeding badly. Immediately, he was carted into the Cobra where he was given immediate medical attention. CPT. Hastly came soon thereafter as 1SG. Green was carried in by 1SG. Juniper. They had to go back to MSG. Donnery, who was a mess. He was missing his left leg and his right arm was nearly severed. Blood bathed his fatigues and his eyes lay open. A body bag onboard the Cobra would be needed to contain him. Unfortunately, his leg would never be found.

The battle raged on and on as the other eight soldiers moved into the compound. Team 30 was now all with the vehicles. Both guides were with Team 14 and they were all moving slowly but moving well. They fought on hard and the battle in the compound lasted another twenty-six minutes. Two more 155 millimeter shells impacted the compound but too far away to harm the eight soldiers of Team 14. They did; however, kill at least fifteen palace guards. When it was over, the Moorish leader was in custody as well as six of his aides. Many of his guards were lying dead on the cold, debris-ridden floors of the palace, which was smoking from more than two points. The artillery from Eurasian howitzers some ten miles away tore 1/3 of the compound to miniscule pieces. It was a disaster that the Eurasians would have to clean up but, at the same time, the Layartebians were going home with one KIA and three WIAs. It was no easy matter.

After taking Kabul from the Moorish, the Eurasian forces began a full out offensive on all Moorish holdings in Moorish Afghanistan, since their stronghold in Kabul has fallen: their other holdings will fall with easy.

The General Staff estimated that all of Moorish Afghanistan would be completely under Eurasian rule within the next 20 days, at the current rate of progress; then after the region is completely conquered, the Eurasian government will be begin its massive rebuilding project of all of Afghanistan to make par with the other regions of the Federation.

The C-17 Globemaster III landed safely back home in North Carolina but with a somber crowd. The Delta Operatives and the assembly on the tarmac saluted with honors as the fifteen men walked out, eight of them carrying the flag draped coffin of their fallen comrade. A twenty-one gun salute was offered as the body was carrying out into an awaiting hearse to be brought off for burial.

The men that survived walked out with blank expressions on their faces. They had been exposed to fire before but they had never taken casualties and when it was surmised that it was friendly fire, just another "fog of war" problem, it hit them on a deeper level. They were not expecting to take casualties from friendly fire, not at all.

Still, the deed was done and nothing could be said to fix the mess. The Eurasian forces apologized and rightfully so but it still wasn't their fault, entirely. The rounds had gone astray and, unfortunately, that was to be expected in an urban conflict.
