Kreynoria War Elephant Storefront [Modern Tech]

Overview

Since ancient times, the elephant has been recognized as a useful animal. It is the strongest land animal alive, one of the most intelligent, and also one of the scariest to those unfamiliar with them. With the advent of polearms, firearms, and effective means of frightening elephants, war elephants became obsolete. However, Kreynoria has recognized that potential still exists for the elephant to be useful weapon of war.

Rules

1. Don't clutter this thread with posts about how war elephants are useless. If you want, start a separate OOC thread for it.
2. Customers are requested to do their own math. However, for a fee totaling 10% of the order, we will do the math for you.
3. Keep posts IC.

Animals

Elephant

This an African elephant, raised on special reservations in Kenya. All elephants are bred for strength, stamina, longevity, and fearlessness, and receive inoculations for common diseases. Along with each elephant comes a lifetime supply of food for it. If you wish for it to be used for war, it is recommended that you purchase training and accessories to go with it.

Price: $30,000

Mahout

A mahout is an elephant rider who gives the elephant commands, trains it, cares for it, and kills it if it runs amok among your own forces. They require an annual salary of $40,000

Training

War Training

In order to be properly used in battle, an elephant must be properly trained. Untrained elephants are frightened by battle, are difficult to control, and panic if injured. An elephant trained for war will be trained to fight, carry a driver, and follow verbal commands, and be conditioned to the fearsome sights, sounds, and smells of the battlefield. Verbal commands include: advance, retreat, left, right, charge, attack, stop, down, and stand.

Price: $20,000

Riot Training

Elephants trained for riot and crowd control are trained to look scary but do minimal damage. They are trained to use nonlethal techniques, such as striking with its trunk, knocking down people with its feet without badly hurting them, and using a slowed sweep with the trunks to knock people off their feet rather than send them flying. Another favored technique is rearing up on their hind legs and crashing down on the ground without stomping on anybody.

Price: $15,000

Labor Training

Labor training simply trains an elephant for labor rather than battle. Elephants make excellent logistical "machines" because of their great strength, stamina, and endurance, and they are trained to maximize these traits.

Price: $10,000

Circus Training

While our primary product is war elephants, we also offer elephants trained for entertainment in a circus setting. They are trained to do various crowd-pleasing tricks and to minimize aggression.

Price: $10,000

Armor/Protection

Elephant Flak Jacket

Since ancient times, armor has been recognized as a necessity for war elephants. However, the chain mail and leather armor used by ancient peoples is of little use on the modern battlefield. Instead, we offer flak jackets shaped and custom-sized to each individual elephant that offer it protection from small arms, shrapnel, and other battlefield hazards.

Price: $4,000

Elephant Nano-Mesh Armor

Chain mail was the armor of choice for elephants of ancient times. Nano-mesh is the descendant of chainmail. It is made of nano-sized links of carbon and silicon. It is very lightweight and as flexible as normal clothing, but provides better protection than conventional body armor.

Price: $12,000

Elephant Gas Mask

Poison gas presents a major hazard to elephants, so we have designed a gas mask sized and shaped for an elephant.

Price: $1,000

Elephant NBC Suit

Encompassing more than just the gas mask, this suit provides complete NBC protection to an elephant's entire body.

Price: $8,000

Elephant Earplugs

This is simply an elephant-sized set of earplugs which dampen battlefield noise that would startle an elephant, but also allows enough noise in to allow the elephant to hear the mahout's orders.

Price: $500

Elephant Helmet

This elephant-sized helmet is a recommended buy for all war elephant users. The helmet is made of composite materials providing some level of protection to an elephant, and in addition, they give an elephant night vision, prevent eye damage from flashbangs, flares, and the like, and block out the frightening noises of battle. There is also a two-way radio built into the helmet, with a hand radio given to the driver to allow him to give verbal orders to the otherwise deaf elephant

Price: $3,000

Elephant Boots

These armored boots protect an elephant's feet and lower legs from land mines, caltrops, stray bits of shrapnel, and similar hazards, as well as more mundane hazards like bothersome insects. They are waterproof and fire resistant.

Price: $1,000

Elephant Decorations

A decorative coat can be put over a war elephant's armor. We will custom make the decoration to match your nation's flag unless otherwise requested.

Price: $1,000

Fighting Positions

Elephant Fighting Platform

This is a simple wooden platform strapped to an elephant's back with low railings on the side. It can carry the mahout and up to four snipers, who benefit from the elevation of the platform. It is cheaper than the metal pillbox and does not put so much strain on the elephant's back.

Price: $5,000

Elephant Pillbox

This is a specially made metal pillbox strapped to an elephant's back, providing protection to the mahout as well as protection and elevation for up to four snipers. A must buy.

Price: $15,000

Elephant Troop Carrier

This is a varient of the elephant pillbox. It is larger and has no firing slits, but includes a folding ramp to allow troops to easily disembark when the elephant "kneels." In order to not put too much stress on the elephant's back, the carrier is made of lightweight metals, but should still be able to resist most attacks short of a tank or artillery blast. It can hold up to eight troops comfortably, or up to twelve, although it is uncomfortable and impractical for long journeys.

Price: $25,000
[NS]Kreynoria

Elephant Weapons

The price of a weapon includes the price of training an elephant to use it.

Tusk Blades

This is a set of three-foot metal blades that fit onto the outer side of the end of an elephant's tusks, allowing them to slash apart enemy troops with the sharp blades.

Price: $2,000

Tusk Chain

A tusk chain consists of a spiked chain running between the tusks of an elephant. It is swept low to the ground and used to gut enemy troops, slash tires, and flip small vehicles.

Price: $3,000

Spiked Rings

This is a simple weapon that consists of a pair of rings that fit onto an elephant's tusks that are covered in spikes, and used to cut up enemy infantry.

Price: $2,000

Ankle Blades

This consists of four metal rings that strap around an elephant's ankles. On either side is a foot-long blade. As the elephant walks or charges, it will disembowel enemy soldiers.

Price: $2,000

Boot Spikes

These require the purchase of elephant boots. They are simply long spikes that allow an elephant to impale an enemy soldier by stepping on them, and also give an elephant better traction.

Price: $1,000

Flails

This weapon conists of a spiked metal ball on a chain connected to an elephant's tusk, with one flail to each tusk. The elephant is trained to twirl them in elaborate yet effective patterns. Besides killing enemies, this is also a very scary weapon to face. It is very difficult to train an elephant to use this, hence the high price.

Price: $10,000

Machine Gun

This is a machine gun mounted on top of the elephant's head. It fires 14.5mm armor-piercing rounds. The elephant holds a special trigger in its trunk and presses a red button to fire the weapon. When it is out of ammo, it presses a blue button which flashes a light on the machine gun which tells the mahout to reload the gun. It is very difficult to train an elephant to use this, hence the high price. The machine gun can be used with a grenade launcher or flamethrower, but is incompatible with a cannon.

Price: $24,000

Grenade Launcher

This is another head mounted weapon. It fires fragmentation, flashbang, or whatever type of grenade you wish it to fire. The elephant bites down on a pressure pad to fire the weapon. It uses its tongue to push a button that flashes a light on the grenade launcher when it is out of ammo, signaling the mahout to reload it. It is very difficult to train an elephant to use this, hence the high price. The grenade launcher can be used together with a machine gun or 57mm cannon, but is incompatible with the flamethrower.

Price: $28,000

Flamethrower

The flamethrower is mounted on the end of the elephant's trunk, and the gas tanks on its head. The trigger is identical to the one on the grenade launcher. It is very difficult to train an elephant to use this and even harder to get it to overcome its fear of fire, hence the high price. The flamethrower can be used with a machine gun or a cannon, but not a grenade launcher.

Price: $40,000

57mm Cannon

The 57mm cannon fires a high-explosive round for destroying light tanks, vehicles, and masses of infantry. Its trigger is identical to the one on the machine gun. It is very difficult to train an elephant to use this, hence the high price. The cannon is compatible with the flamethrower or grenade launcher but not the machine gun.

Price: $40,000

Water Cannon

The water cannon is a weapon designed for riot and crowd control rather than actual combat. The water is sprayed at high pressure, easily enough to knock down a human without severely injuring them. It uses a machine gun-type trigger.

Price: $5,000

Suicide Devices

Hammer & Chisel

A wounded elephant is prone to go berserk, becoming as much a threat to one's own forces as one of the enemy's. The ancient method still works, but it is messy. The hammer is used to drive a chisel into the elephant's neck, cutting its spinal cord.

Price: $50

Microbomb

A microbomb is a tiny bomb implanted in the brain of an elephant. When the mahout activates the remote, the bomb is set off, destroying the elephant's brain is instantly killing the elephant. More humane and less hard on the mahout than cutting its neck.

Price: $2,000

Neuro-Toxin

Neuro-toxin is a humane method of slaying a rampaging elephant. The mahout inserts a needle into the elephant's neck, and the poison should kill the elephant within 10 to 20 seconds, without unnecessary suffering for the elephant.

Price: $4,000

Tranquilizer

Not a suicide device per see, tranquilizer is used to knock out a rampaging elephant rather than kill it. The tranquilizer is inserted into the elephant's neck via needle, and should knock out the elephant within 15 to 30 seconds, and keep it out for anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, depending on the size of the elephant and of the tranquilizer dosage.

Price: $3,000

We are intrigued by the possibilities of using elephants for crowd control in riot and other civil disturbance situations. As such we would like to order four hundred elephants and the four hundred associated and necessary Mahouts. In addition they require:

1. War Training
2. Elephant Flak Jacket
3. Elephant Gas Mask
4. Elephant Boots
5. Elephant Helmet
6. Elephant Decorations
7. Elephant Pillbox
8. Microbomb

That comes out to 52,000 USD per elephant. For four hundred elephants that is 20,800,000 USD total. We will wire the money upon confirmation

I am very sorry about that and wish there would be a better way, but it is hard to feed a rampaging elephant an L-pill. I will try to think up a more humane suicide device. And riot-busting elephant's are trained NOT to kill people, if you read about riot training.

Your order is confirmed, and the elephants are being shipped over as this message is typed. Elephants can live to be up to seventy years old if properly cared for; however, by that age they are no longer useful for battle. An elephant can be useful until the age of forty-five to fifty. We would also like to add that unlike vehicles, elephants can reproduce.

To the Kreynoria War Elephant Storefront

The King, who is always interested in finding innovative new ways to fight battles, is enthusiastic about these war elephants. He would like to test out some of them before buying more, however, so he will only be ordering 10 elephants of the first three types of training, and 100 elephants for entertainment in the Royal Zoological Gardens.

This brings up a total of 130 elephants. I will want two mahouts for every elephant, as that way there will be enough mahouts in the highly likely event that several of them die or are assassinated.

After being informed of all the equipment that the King and his generals, admiralty, and staff wish to test, I present the following receipt:

Elephants 30,000x130
Mahouts 40,000x260
War Training 20,000x10
Riot Training 15,000x10
Labor Training 10,000x10
Circus Training 10,000x100
Flak Jacket 4,000x30
Nano-Mesh Armor 12,000x30
Gas Mask 8,000x30
Helmet 3,000x30
Boots 1,000x30
Fighting Platform 5,000x30
Pillbox 15,000x30
Troop Carrier 25,000x30
Spiked Rings 2,000x30
Ankle Blades 2,000x30
Boot Spikes 1,000x30
Flails 10,000x30
Total: 18,390,000 USD

Should the King be satisfied with his elephants, he shall order many more. You shall receive payment in a lump sum through an electronic banking system, the technical nuances of which I do not know as it is not my field of study.

Until we speak again, it has been a pleasure doing business with you.

To John Dalassena, Founder and CEO of Kreynoria War Elephant Storefront,

We have conducted tests and research with the elephants that I have purchased from you not long ago. These tests have, for the most part, been positive, and I would like to order more of your products for use in our forces.

Our tests have shown us many of the uses for your elephants. We were particularly pleased with the ankle blades, which were quite effective. On the other hand, I would advise you to reevaluate your spiked rings, which were not as effective in our tests, and hire some new engineers to fix those up.

Here is my new order:

Elephants 30,000x70,000
Mahouts 40,000x140,000
War Training 20,000x50,000
Riot Training 15,000x5000
Labor Training 10,000x15,000
Flak Jacket 4,000x70,000
Nano-Mesh Armor 12,000x70,000
Gas Mask 8,000x70,000
Helmet 3,000x70,000
Boots 1,000x70,000
Fighting Platform 5,000x70,000
Pillbox 15,000x70,000
Troop Carrier 25,000x70,000
Ankle Blades 2,000x70,000
Boot Spikes 1,000x70,000
Total: 8,650,600,000 USD

I understand that this is a large order, and if you can not procure it or deliver all at once, I am willing to receive it over the course of a few years. That being said, if it is possible for it to all be delivered within a few months, I would greatly prefer it.

Again, it was a pleasure doing business.

We are pleased that your tests have been successful. We shall re-evaluate our spiked ring design and possibly replace it with a more effective weapon, and in the meantime will begin procuring your order. The equipment can all be delivered in the next few months, along with about seven thousand elephants. The total of thirty thousand elephants should be delivered in the next three to five years. We thank you for your support and hope that you enjoy the elephants.

Sorry for the delay in response. I've been busy.

I've decided that if you want, you can send your candidates to a special school to receive mahout training. The cost will be $60,000 per year. Two or three years' training (two for just riding and handling and three for raising) should give them all the skills they require as a mahout.

The mahouts serve as the elephants' trainer as well as rider.

I've also found a reliable figure on the carrying capacity of a six-ton bull elephant being one and a half tons.

Therefore, I've decided that that 120mm gun is unreasonably large and am taking it off the weapons list.
