Skittletopia is reeling, today after at 559SIT, Skittletopian head-of-state Archduke V. Delacroix I was shot dead as he took the podium at an outdoor state function in the small town of Baile Chaolais, north of the capital Lemon.

Although the Delacroix family officially gave up dominion of the country under Archduke Vaughn Delacroix in 1855, the family's influence in the political process has been long acnowledged by the state, the family's portraits still appearing on the currency and the current Archduke attending most state functions and having to ceremonially appoint the new High Minister. However, after the disappearence of the Archduke's only son Angelus five years ago, the lineage appears to have ended.

The weapon, a ceramic, heavilly-scoped analog of the M99, fitted with an anti-materialle magnetic acceleration unit was recovered from the pavement below a condemned tower block scheduled for demolition one full kilometer away from the function. The killer apparently attempted to destroy the weapon as it fell using an improvised explosive device, however the electric detonator was rendered inoperable due to interference from the acceleration unit fixed to the barrel. It was manufactured in the Avoided Islands before the dissolusion of the government there, and the subsiquent integration of the territories into Skittletopia, and due to the previous government's lax policy on gun registration, is considered untraceable.

Due to the unusual nature of the firearm, Ballistics experts and pathologists have been working non-stop to ascerten what happened. It appears Delacroix was hit once in the sternum, the first round puncturing a lung. Puzzlingly, eyewitness reports suggest Delacroix was still standing at this point, the experts putting this down to overpenetration. Two subsiquent shots were fired, the second striking him in the neck, and the third hitting the now dead Delacroix in the neck a second time, practically decapitating him as he lay on the ground.

High Minister Steven Remarque has declaired a public day of mourning, with businesses across the nation shutting down tomorrow for a full 24 hours.

The police at present have no suspects. If you witnessed anyone behaving suspiciously around the area of the tower, near the time of the shooting you are advised to contact the police immediately.
