Members of the Communist Party of Tree Hugging Lesbians (Or CPTHL, for short) were conducting a demonstration near the Capital Building early today, claiming the Federal Government tends to rig elections to ensure that the various other political parties in the nation appear to receive little-to-no votes. They claim them selves and the Green Party to be the particular victims of this alleged crime.
Several units of police were dispatched to monitor the demonstration. How ever, for one reason or another the demonstration turned violent. Both sides allege the other attack first, but the end result was that 13 demonstrators were killed by gunfire, an additional 26 wounded, and 3 officers severely injured.
Due to the overwhelming numbers of the demonstrators, the Police were eventually forced vacate the area. As the day progressed, rioting in response to the alleged attack by the police increased. As night fell, the city of New Lesbos fell into chaos. Hundreds of fire have been ignited, looting has become wide-scale, and emergency forces have become overwhelmed.
Alyssa Lockhart, Secretary of State issued this statement to the International Community "We wish to remind the world that we do not encourage or condone this type of thing, this discrimination against people. Our culture is accepting of all people of different races, religions, and political platforms. We have not, and never will discriminate against Communists, or anyone else for that matter, on a Federal level."
While a formal state of emergency has not been issued, as the chaos worsens President Naomi Roderica is expected to issue one. She reinforced Lockhart's statement, but added "Anarchy will not be tolerated." She also added the possibility of bringing the Federal Military in to quil the riot.
