[NS]The Palaeologus State

The year, 1453. A year that was said would bring Byzantium to its knees. However, when Mehmed II's armies marched, Turkish renegades attacked, eliminating many of the Turks. Mehmed II retreated and Constantine XI took back most of Byzantium's glory.

Constantine XI said concerning religion: ''Our Creator has given us great religions, let us honor him by worshipping in peace'' He takes all of Asia Minor and dies before attacking the Middle East. His successors continue the Empire, taking Jerusalem and going to Egypt.

General Alexander Orphanotrophus was a man who wanted revenge on Europe, especially those like Venice for things like 1204. He expanded Byzantium in Europe, taking Hungary, Belgrade, Otranto and was near Rome when he lost.

The Orthodox Church enjoyed the majority of souls but thanks to Constantine XI, no religion was state religion, though the majority of Emperors and Empresses were with Orthodoxy.

General Alexander was not tied to the Emperor and he passed away in Smyrna. The Caliphs of Islam were the Mamelukes, till the British conquered them and ended the Caliphate.

The Byzantines would later own Thailand. Byzantium waged several wars with other lands, keeping their Empire intact. Russia and Byzantium had good relations till the Advent of the Hammer and Sickle.

Greek Orthodoxy is the majority faith of Byzantium, Islam ranks second. The Greek Orthodox Church still has Hagia Sophia for use in services, Emperors are crowned there.

Constantine XI Palaeologus is buried in Mystra, his tomb reads ''Hail My Lord, Who Gives Me Strength''. Constantine XI appears on Byzantine coins and money.

The Byzantine Empire is an absolute monarchy today, under an Emperor ruling from Constantinople. The Emperors are still crowned in Hagia Sophia, used for Orthodox services, with its great mosaics.

More later on my version of a modern Byzantine Empire. This is also more of a rough copy, I suppose, may change things later. However, you can tell me how I did so far.
