People's Republic Of Hurtful Thoughts/PROHT
(New Guinia [the whole main island and the Solomon Island chain)

AMW Population: 6,000,000 (rounded up by 330,000)
Military total is 120,000 rather than 12,000,000
Army: 60,000
Marines: 20,000
Federal Police: 40,000 (think KGB/NKVD style federal police)
CDF: 1,080,000 (tranied and able bodied but never used or equiped for offensive operations outside of their homeland) Some of these people become territorial police officers (estimated to be 80,000 territorial police officers)
[may have been gurillias from the civil war to unite the island]

Quick overview:
Weapon differances from PROHT in "normal" NS:

No HT-101 series vehicles, instead they use aging M-113 vehicles that where bought at scrap value from America. PROHT is tinking about replacing many of these and the AMX-13 with BMD-4 "light tanks"

No Supercarriers (reduced back to just the HTS Independance bought from the British), PROHT will not have its 50 conventional Terror class heavy Monitors either, but is going to ask for the last remaining, fully functional Des Moines class Heavy cruiser (armed with twelve 8" guns) and a few (10) FRAM-II conveted WW2 wrecks. Will only have standard Tango class fleet/large SSKs. Barbour class is to be replaced by standard Container ships capable of being outfitted as auxillary cruisers (35 of them [30 cargo, 5 passenger liners], 15 serve as cruisers/pre-positioned troopships during peacetime).

T-90 and HT-101E8 tanks replaced by AMX-30 and AMX-13 from France

No PDE or FMX series planes. Replace with F-16s from America and MiG-21s from the Former Soviet Union.

PROHT will still have Blimps, Zeplins and amphibious planes (PBY-2 Coranodos from America in AMW), but will not have steam turbine powered super-heavy aircraft.

PROHT launches their satalites either from high altitude weather balloon, or piggyback on an RF-4J with an auxillary liquid rocket motor booster for the satalites in order to reach low earth polar orbit, otherwise they just ask someone else to do it.

Will retain the MMP-1 and UL-2000 series of planes.

Toss all PMT gear, though the 36" self-propelled Mortar will remain as HTM-36. HTC-105 to be replaced by an early model of M-109 Paladin from America,

CC-5 and 8 (6"/155 mm and 8"/203 mm) cannons to be instead their american counterparts redesignated with already stated names.

Oh, and AMsW style PROHT CBW programs will be kicked down a few pegs.

(No HE-80, though we may have stocks of CS, chlorine, WP, and precorsers to Sulfar Mustard gas; we also have liberal stocks of organo-phosphates in our lawn and gardens departments, making H2S and LSD is comparitively simple)

Economy/geography here

Region was heavily influenced by the German colonisation, rather than the British in the south.

Distrusted the british, but didn't mind the Australians, and so when WW2 rolled around they fought for the allies in the pacific and remained nuetral in the atlantic until germany declared war on them for defending themsleves against the Japanese.

Since then, the area has been a militaristic socialist region headed by a beevolent leader who balances what meager forces they have in order to maintain peace.

As such, the nation developed a CDF in case they get invaded while the regular troops went overseas.

Oceania. Just like the region I'm in on NS (even though I've been given many offers to join other regions)

Lots of history on the area, Port Morsby and Bouganville in particular.
Apparently I recently suppressed a massive riot on Bouganville a few years ago (many died), Port Morsby was the Japanese objective during the Battle of Coral Sea ("Scratch one Flat-top") and the Kokoda trail ("They died today so that you may live tomorrow" [inscription on Kokoda Trail monument (or something like that)]).
("Everyone gave something, and some gave everything" came from another quote)

What detail, I just re-used the specs I had when I started NS and replaced a few weapons systems to make it more feasable for a country in New Guenia's position to acheive.

Wait until I finish describing the cities, laws, customs and such.

Been looking for pics to use in order to better describe the uniform and load bearing gear.

A few designs I'd be hard pressed to drop:

(couldn't find a suitable RL design already in service to meet either requirements although the technology has existed for at least the past 10 to 20 years)

MMP-1
(RL already has "better" RPVs, except this one was designed to be a 'throw-away' RPV carried by a fire team.
Direct link Light RPV, armed with 3 hand grenades

Radius of action: 5 miles (less if jammin is present or weather unfavorable)
Endurance: 1 hour
Max Airspeed: 120 mph in a dive, 80 mph in level flight (Cannot sustain these speeds without suffering engine/airframe damage)
Cruise Airspeed: 60 mph
Stalls at: 20 mph
Reason why developed: To supplement Counter-Artillery batteries and to give squad level real time recon. "Pocket CAS".
Technology used:
Standardised Model plane
2 Wireless video Cameras
laptop /w/ Antena and wireless connection (similar to the ones for controling a "Firebee" target drone [circa 1970s]).

Thermobaric Hand Grenade
Description: RPG-7 thermobaric warehead, replace rocket with 10 second time delay fuse, now shape it like a hand grenade.
Reason why developed: Not everyone has an RPG-7 in their back pocket, this was to allow a single infantryman to demolish a building without needing to reley on the grenadiers (who would focus on their AT roles)
Technology used:
Thermobaric warhead'
10 second delay fuze (flame, precussion, mehanical, or acid ampule)

AMW already has a history?

Well that throws all my work out the window.
(I'm not good at smileys, I'll stop now)

And what application? oh, wait, huh, oh well, if I pass I pass and I just saved myself a bunch of time and if not accepted i'll simply delete this thread to free up the server.

Luckily I didn't RP anything yet AMW wise.

I have taken part in RPs on the standard NS format (and I still shall using a different factbook as refferance).

As for the "being pro-austrian" issue, (unleess WW2 is messed up in AMW timeline as well) Germany declared war on PROHT/New Guenia, and therefore they have cut all relations with Europe ever since the end of WW2, PROHT was an active participant in SEATO, [which was dissolved because it didn't work in real life due to their failure in Vietnam] and was replaced by tight alliances (yet to be figured out with whom, but to be historically correct I'd lean towards Australia, Indonesia and FSM) with nearby countries.

And yes, I did pop in on the forums, noted my intentions (also noted I may have posted on the wron AMW discussion thread [the newer one]), and pasted a link to this thread on it.

More in deoth history (1st post will soon be edited into an index and quick refferance)

Accepted Baseline (http://s9.invisionfree.com/NS_Modern_World/index.php?showtopic=240):
Papua: Occupied by the USQ shortly after the fall of the FRB. Quinntonian occupation forces departed the region quickly after initial stabilisation operations. My impression is that the USQ sought to avoid a potential quagmire and accusations of imperialism by affecting a quick withdrawal. Given the fractured nature of the population, I suspect that an initial democratic government is likely in place, with a large number of minority parties and no one able to organise a coalition. Meanwhile the countryside is divided between armed groups engaged in constant fighting: Muslim fundamentalists (IRI-backed), Javanese/socialists (Sujava-backed), communists (probably not Igovian-backed, but maybe an advisor or two ala Philippines), Bonstockian Restorationists (Singapore backed), and dozens of small ethnic militias.

History
Hurtful Thoughts
In 1545 the Spaniard Yñigo Ortiz de Retez sailed along the north coast of New Guinea as far as the Mamberamo River near which he landed, naming the island 'Nueva Guinea'. The first map showing the whole island (as an island) was published in 1600 and shows it as 'Nova Guinea'.

The first European claim occurred in 1828, when the Netherlands formally claimed the western half of the island as Netherlands New Guinea. In 1883, following a short-lived French annexation of New Ireland, the British colony of Queensland annexed south-eastern New Guinea. However, the Queensland government's superiors in the United Kingdom revoked the claim, and (formally) assumed direct responsibility in 1884, when Germany claimed north-eastern New Guinea as the protectorate of German New Guinea (also styled Kaiser-Wilhelmsland). The first Dutch government posts were established in 1898 and in 1902 Manokwari on the North coast, Fak-Fak in the West and Merauke in the South at the border with British New Guinea.

[this is where history changes]
A civil war quicly broke out diring the hostilities of the 1st World war, the Island sided with the Germans and threw out the British and Dutch forces, Australasia, which had gained independance from the British Crown in 1901, refused to help the British on the island, which quickly was dubbed "Hurtful Thoughts" by journalists due to the ferocious fighting there, the name stuck.

Before about 1930, most European maps showed the highlands as uninhabited forests. When first flown over by aircraft, numerous settlements with agricultural terraces and stockades were observed. The most startling discovery took place on August 4, 1938, when Richard Archbold discovered the Grand Valley of the Balim River which had 50,000 yet-undiscovered Stone Age farmers living in orderly villages. The people, known as the Dani, were the last society of its size to make first contact with the western world.

Hurtful thoughts and Australian Territories were invaded in 1942 by the Japanese. The Australian territories were put under military administration and were known simply as New Guinea. The highlands, northern and eastern parts of the island became key battlefields in the South West Pacific Theatre of World War II. Hurtians often gave vital assistance to the Allies, fighting alongside Australian and US troops, and carrying equipment and injured men across Hurtful Thoughts. As a reward it was givin the Solomon Islands.

The Domocratatic Republic Of Hurtful Thoughts (DROHT) was overthrown in 1963 by an Australasian guerrillia, and then came to be known as the People's Republic of Hurtful Thoughts (PROHT) after a long and protracted civil war.

Since then, PROHT has remained open to free trade and has stocked up on reletively heavy amounts of highly mobile military hardware to be used in SEATO, of which it had been a founding member.

It soon left, however, when it became apparent that SEATO had too much red tape to work through in order to work properly. Shortly afterwards SEATO broke up in favor of Alliances based around smaller regions and providing aid as they saw fit.

Bougainville/New Roanoke Island
The island was named after the French navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville (whose name has also been lent to the creeping tropical flowering vines of the bougainvillea family). In 1885 it came under German administration as part of German New Guinea. It was then claimed by Hurtful Thoughts in 1914, which it controled until the Japanese invaded in 1942 and then again after 1945.

The island was occupied by Australasian, Quinntonian, Hurtian and Japanese forces in World War II. It was an important base for the USAAF, RAF, HAAF (Hurtful Army Air Force). On March 8, 1944 during World War II, Hurtian forces were attacked by Japanese troops on Hill 700 on this island. The battle lasted five days, ending with a Japanese retreat.

The island is rich in copper and possibly gold. The Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA) ostensibly reclaimed the country from corporate mining interests in the 1980s, in the form of Bougainville Copper Limited, (BCL) an Hurtian controlled company.

The mining activity triggered a nine-year secessionist revolt which claimed 20,000 lives. It ended in 1997, after a general invasion by Hurtian Marines.

During most of the revolt the island was also under blockade, which forced the people to supply themselves with everything from power to soap. Biodiesel was refined out of coconut oil to fuel vehicles as well as building a small hydroelectric power plant out of old vehicle parts.

The resourcefulness of these people can be seen in their use of the coconut which besides biodiesel was also used for making soap, lamp oil, baskets, treating wounds and placed in the coals of a fire to act as a mosquito repellent.

These people were then employed in labor camps to help refine Hutrian Weapons programs. After extensive use as a proving ground, the Island was deemed unfit for anyone to live on, and is now officially a worldwide garbage dump.

Solomon Islands
The Solomon Islands have been inhabited by Melanesian people for at least 30,000 years. The United Kingdom established a protectorate over the Solomon Islands in the 1890s. Some of the bitterest fighting of World War II occurred on these islands.

After which it was occupied as a protectate by People's Republic of Hurtful Thoughts.

Since 1997 ethnic violence, government misconduct and crime have undermined stability and civil society. In June 2003 a Hurtians fielded a sizeable military force arrived to restore peace and disarm ethnic militias.

Since then the Solomon Islands have been under strict quarantine.

Can someone give me a brief history of the Federated Republic of Bonstock (AMW)?

Because curently my history page is written as if it never existed...
AMW China
09-08-2006, 13:16
This is it from a Chinese perspective:

Sino-Bonstock War
To say that the Federal Republic of Bonstock was not the most popular nation in Asia would have been an understatement, to say the least. Its international standing was not helped by a series of military slip-ups, the most grevious of which took place during the Marimaian-lead invasion of Myanmar.

Acting as part of the multi-national occupation forces, the Bonstockian Army was charged with helping to subdue anti-occupation rebels, many loyal to the old military regime but others simply opposed to the foreign presence in what used to be a soveriegn nation. While Marimaia, Hudecia, East Islandia, United Elias (through Brunei), Hindustan, and Spyr chose to concentrate on a 'hearts and minds' campaign with a more restrained combat aspect, the Bonstockian methods were drastically different. After taking losses to rebels in several incidents, FRB forces lost all inhibitions and committed a number of atrocities against the civilian population. In addition to the general apathy shown by FRB forces for noncombatants, on a number of occasions civilians were specifically targeted.
The final, and most brutal, of all these atrocities was when Bonstockian Army and Air Force units virtually leveled the city of Mergui with artillery and heavy bombs, and then looted the remains before withdrawing from the country. International anger over this particular incident was substantial, and what happened next was extremely poorly-timed by the FRB.
As if to throw salt on the wound, the Federal Republic Of Bonstock announced that it was going to levy a tax on all foreign shipping that made use of the commercially vital Strait of Malacca. Despite mounting international dissatisfaction with the Malacca tariffs, Bonstock continued to maintain that the Straits were its soveriegn waters and it had a right to do what it liked with them. The first nation to threaten military action was Hudecia, and soon after followed highly militaristic Sino with a vendetta against Bonstock. Initially diplomatic methods were favored by some, but Bonstockian persistence and rising anger over the Mergui massacre lead to declarations of war.
Before long a coalition including Spyr, Marimaia, Hudecia, Hindustan, and to a lesser extent Chuang-Han China, had assembled combat forces and prepared plans for the conduct of war against the Federal Republic of Bonstock.
The fighting that took place in the Maropian Coast, Bonstock's section of Formosa (Taiwan), was rather one-sided. Politically silent before the war, a joint Sinoese-ROCA force numbering almost half a million launched a surprise attack on the colony. Depleted from the fighting in the Sakishimas, mass desertion, and heavy Taiwanese air raids, the Bonstockian defenders were overwhelmed by the simply crushing numbers of Chinese troops. The Chinese invasion force was characteristically ruthless and professional, taking no prisoners in the process of decisively destroying the Bonstockians in the Maropian Coast.
It was during the Maropian Coast assault that Lord Harald himself was killed, along with three hundred loyal troops. This essentially decapitated the Bonstockian government and had a considerable effect on the events that would take place elsewhere.
The Maropian Coast was absorbed into Taiwan after a brutal military governance by Chinese forces in which Bonstockians themselves had little hope of survival. Some Maropians kept up a short campaign against the Chinese occupation forces, demanding independence and self-determination, but without success. Bonstockian loyalists allege 140,000 civilians went missing during the occupation, but this has never been officially confirmed.

So, currently most nations in the region absolutely hate Singapore.

[I can't say I agree with Bonstock's history on NSwiki. We expelled him from AMW shortly after due to massive godmodding, and it seems he is a bit of a sore loser]

Thanks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Bonstock),

I don't even think about NS wiki'n nations.

So now I have to insert 2 more civil wars into my hitory post...

3 main things I found

Bonstocknian history is divided into 4 distinct periods: The Archaic Period, the Civil Wars, the Asian Wars, and Modern Era. The Archaic period, according to legend, began hundreds of years ago with the arrival of Viking settlers near modern Port Yuko.
-----
A favorable pro-market government allowed for the expansion of Bonstocknian business, and the economy boomed as the population rapidly expanded. During this time, Ste. Evremonde waged war abroad in White Tundra and Multaan, the latter of which incited an attempted communist coup d’état which was brutally put down, later seen as the First Bonstocknian Civil War.
-----
After an abortive invasion of Okinawa, a minor peacekeeping operation in Myanmar turned into a human rights debacle after Bonstocknian forces ransacked the town of Mergui and massacred its inhabitants. The other nations in Asia used Bonstocknian taxation of the Straits of Malacca as a pretext for war, and Bonstock lost her overseas possessions. Harald remained in power in Port Yuko, and aims at making Bonstock more powerful then before.
