It is January 1st, 1800. It is a new age. An age of Revolutions. The world population had reached one billion. In France Napoleon is planning a counter attack against the second coalition. The passionate intellectuals in France still cling to the hope forged in their wayward revolution that they will liberate Europe from monarchial tyranny. While the forces of the second coaliton would like nothing better than to restore the French monarchy.

Greetings northern neighbor. As our counterparts to the west and the east loom ever so threatningly close to us, we recognise that war between our countries could never be good. While we both have our needs, land, I'm sure we can work things out peacefully, so that more wars never happen.

Fez And Morocco: A new dawn in the sands of Maghreb

As the sun advances to the noon, right before the Mosque fills with muslims saying their prayers, the streets of Fez are full with vendors, natives of the city, strict students of the Coran following their wise teachers and travelers, some from the Eastern lands that are under the control of the Osmanli Sultan, others from the southwestern lands of Mauritania, and others from the golden city of Timbuktu, to the South. There can be seen little numbers of pilgrims from the cold kingdoms of the franks, most of them sad, skinny young men dressed in black suits, usually reciting poems in barbarian languages, unknown for most of the muslims and staring at the distance, with ostensible melancoly.
The city seems like a great crucible where all the peoples and civilizations, berbers, moors, black peoples, beduins, even the little numbers of franks, seem to melt to forge a new, exquisit mix, which tries to impress and honor Alah, for is His grace what makes the existance of such a city possible.
In the markets of the city anything could be find, from gold that reaches from the south, to black slaves, not to mention the hashish, silk, fine persian carpets, the unforgettable taste of the teas of the Indias, and the best samples of perfumes around the muslim world. All of this prosperous commerce is protected by the Sultans of the Alaouite Dynasty and the red flag of the descendants of Mohammed himself. Even when the authority of the local beys is uncontestable in the most peripheral parts of the Empire, the Sultan Mohammed III not only expanded the lands under the power of red flag of Fatimah but also introduced some control under the local patriarchs in order to bring more stability to the may be too free lands of the Maghreb.
After three years of cruel civil war, his son Suliman became the new sultan, about five years ago. Now, with the experience of thirty nine springs upon his shoulders, and firmly in the throne, shall look not only for the expansion of the Empire, unstoppable since the Alaouite dynasty came to power, more than fifteen decades ago, but also to consolidate and centralise the power of the Western Islam in one´s hands: his own. That should prove he was a worthy son of his father, and a worthy descendant of the Prophet Mohammed, who showed the muslims the way of Alah, the only one who should be praised and honored.

After many battles in Syria and Damascus and the French retreat back into Egypt, the Ottomans raised a 90,000 man army to take on the trapped French Army in Egypt. They were to march into Egypt and were to camp on the northern coast of the Sinai. From there a soldier was to go to Cario and give the Commander of the French troops the Sultan's message.

To Frank Kingdoms (European Powers and United States)

It is the duty of the Visirate of Fez and Morocco to inform you that Mulay Suliman, Sultan of Fez and Morocco and descendant of Prophet Mohammed by the line of Fatimah, wishes to acquire 500 modern rifles and 10 cannons. The kingdoms interested in selling such items must answer as briefly as possible the Visirate and send 3 rifles as sample as well as a instructor to try and convince the Sultan and the generals of the Empire about buying that particular rifles and cannons. Shall Alah bless you,

The Visirate of Fez and Morocco, Fez, 1178 after Hijrah

Orders of the Consulate:

Napoleon Bonaparte was a busy man. The Coalition was still arranged against him, but he had some sort of fornlorn hope that victory would eventually come. All of the states of Europe would fall under the domination of France, at any cost. Napoleon would bring the glories of the revolution to the absolutist states of the east.

-Malta is to be reinforced by extra troops. As to avoid using the French navy, the Maltese citizens have been conscripted to form their own divisions under French control.

-The Ligurian Republic (The Genoese Sattalite states formed in 1797) will be annexed by France. (Assuming I can do so, they being a sattalite of France and all..)

-A force of 35,000 and 65 Guns is to be sent south into Italy under the control of Napoleon Bonaparte. The time for victory over the Austrians is now!

The Prime Minister was walking in his garden with a cup of tea as he did every morning. He thought about the state of the World as it came close to war. Nations like France are building up hugh armies. Britian had a good sized army, but there pride came from the Royal Navy. The P.M. had given orders to start to build up the army with war in his eyes. Something he did not want to see. He was the first elected leader of the United Kingdom. It was a close election and he only won on a promise to keep the peace. He did not want to break that promise. But He would if he had to.

Later on at dinner the P.M. talked about possible allies with his Minister of Defence Thomas Roberts. They talked about possible contacting Russia or Austria. One thing the P.M. knew is that the British people would never side with France....................

In St. Petersburg, His Excellency, Czar Alexander I of Russia dined at his exquisitely furnished table. War with France was inevitable, he knew, but when and where was a mystery. At the very moment, Alexander's mind was to the south, where land was ripe for the picking. Finishing his meal, Alexander retired to another room with his various war ministers to plan just what action would be necessary. Alexander new that he must take these southern lands, before the war with the Ottomans became necessary to achieve it.

-The Russians acknowledge the Persian envoy and wish to hold more detailed talks so that they can be clear as to what service they be be to the Persians.

RE: Rifles

Prussia has sent an expert with three rifles who should be arriving shortly. If you find them satisfactory we can prepare an order of 500 to be sent in a months time.

OOC: I don't know who would be sending this since the foreign office apparently didn't exist until 1808. Ciamoley, the bottom right. It's called Iran for some reason though...

As the troops reached their indicated spot, they setup their camp. After everything was finished a with the Sultan's message rode towards Cairo. He arrived at the city four days later. He requested to speak with the officer in charge of the French forces of Egypt.

Meanwhile, the Sultan had thoughts of reform on his mind. He consults with his Grand Vizier on how he should go about this task. The Grand Vizier says that we have one of the most vaulable resorces in our possession, The Silk Road. The European powers would love to travel it to get to the Far East than to travel thousands of miles of seas. Although it had been mostly destroyed during the times of the Mongols but could be repaired. The Sultan sent out the call to all towns, villages, and quarters. One man from each was to be conscripted into this workforce and serve a minimum of five years helping rebuild the Silk Road. In all a force of nearly a million men was formed to complete this task. Its task was to restore the road to it's former state. Sections would be worked on at a time to make the work go much faster. The Sultan's advisors predicted in to be completed in five years doing it this way.
The Sultan also had plans for the military as well. He would abandon the current way of small land holders fighting in the military, for a free standing army owned by the government. Of course those who already owned land, from the previous system would keep the their lands, but the money they earned would be taxed. The Army was to stand at no less than 600,000 troops around year. From that number up it was voluntary service. If that number were to drop below 600,000 then men would be consripted into the military. Also as a way to modernized the army, the Sultan sends a diplomat to Great Britain to ask for help training his officers the ways of European style fighting. In return, once the Silk Road was restored they could move goods from colonies in the Far East to the Mediterrenean ports for free.

Christian VII was sitting alone in his room. It was raining hard outside and the wind was blowing. It had been raining the whole week. Copenhagen was no cosy city during the long winter. The king had an awful headache that day, and it had nothing to do with the party last night. The reasons of the kings headache was napoleon. Or rather the enemies of Napoleon. Napoleon had helped Christian in the past and he had no intensjon of leaving Napoleon alone fighting the English. He knew well that the English was a mighty enemy to undertake, but he strongly believed that Napoleon would win the coming war. He was writing a letter to the French Emperor Napoleon asking for an alliance. He would need help fortify the port of Copenhagen too. If The British were to invade Denmark they would attack Copenhagen first. He knew very well that this was an important letter that might change the course of the Danish-Norwegian kingdom.

Dear Sir Napoleon Bonaparte

Even the strongest leader, the strongest military and the strongest people will need friends and allies to reach the goals that they seek. Please let me on behalf of the Danish and Norwegian people ask you to let us help you reach your goals so that France can grow into an even greater empire.

His Excellency Czar Alexander I private chambers, St. Petersburg

Alexander stood up quickly from his throne where he had been perched in deep thought. Quickly he ushered his numerous serveants out of his room and sent for his war ministers. Czar Alexander I had large shoes to fill in the eyes of the Russian people. The shoes of all the monarchs of Russia who had ruled before him. The same great rulers who had expanded the borders of Alexanders great country to the magnificent size they were now. And the people of Russia were still hungry. Alexander was resolute to sate the hunger of the masses, but for now only small steps could be taken, now that the world was pre-occupied with the despised Napoleon. But the time for thought was over, the war ministers had arrived...

-Russia hereby sends a force of 3,000 horsemen and 7,000 infantry into the lands of Great Kabarda, Imereti, and Abkhazia from the territory of Kouran and the government of Georgia.

-Diplomats have been sent to the states of Mingrelia and Guria in hopes of possible protectorate deals.

-In addition Russia has sent diplomats to Berlin to discuss an alliance with Prussia.

Fez, Sultan´s Palace

Right after the servants came with the prussian letter, the Sultan ordered the translator, a young german man who came to the country because of his admiration of the muslim culture, and asked about the contents of it. While he received the information, Mulay Suliman ordered his visirs and generals to come to the Palace for an extraordinary Council. The reorganization and modernization of the Army of the Empire was an important step to achive the goal of consolidation of Morocco as a state.
The prussian instructor would be received as soon as he arrived and the rifles should be tested. Another important matter was to arrange an official meeting with the newly arrived consul of the United States of America, nation which was hoped to be be a good supplier of military instructors since they were far away from Europe (and the current conflicts in the continent.)

Medina of Fes-Al-Bali, Fez

The narrow streets of the Medina are lonely and silent, as usual for noon. All the people that only minutes before crowded the streets of the Ancient City of Fez´s heart are filling the giant Kairouyine Mosque for the usual prayers of the noon. Once they have all finished praying looking to the East, where the Holy City of Makkah is located, life in the markets and streets of the most important city of the Maghreb resumes.
Next to the Mosque is the Kairouyine University, the most important learning center of North Africa, and may be one of the greatest places of wisdom in the whole world. The Coran, the sacred text of the Islam was not only read in there, but also carefully studied by some of the greatest theologists of the muslim world at the time. Also, the most beautiful poems in the arabic language, were recited and wrote there, not to mention the doctors that were trained there in the swift arts of the venerable Averroes, or the studies of the logical paths of mathematics, and the astronomers that learn the secrets of the celestial bodies. It was this place chosen by the Grace of Alah not only interesting for the wisest of muslims, but also for a new cultural movement in Europe: Romanticism. And the Sultan thought that the franks could contribute to add more fantastic knowledge to this mansion of knowledge and arts.

Dear Your Excellency Czar Alexander I of Russia,

I ask you to become a allie of my nation. Together I hope we can fight off any attack by the French Republic and her allies. I think we need to be friends in order to fight France. Napoleon Bonaparte is a stong man. Together we can topple him! Please accept my offer.

OOC: If you really need it, I'll take it for the time being. However, I warn you that I won't be the most active person on the planet (Maybe a post a day, perhaps less or more on some weeks). Thus, if anyone able to be more active is willing to step up to the plate, I'll be glad to yield such a spot to them.

The Empire of Fez and Morocco would allow me to post the relations between the muslim civilization and the romanticism, and that´s certainly interesting for romanticism freaks as myself (Delacroix and his trip to Morocco gave me the idea....)
