Diplomacy: The nation was the first to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777, and signed a peace treaty that is in effect since 1783.The United States had recently stablished their embassy in 1799.
About european powers, in the current state of war in Europe, Morocco has been neutral in the conflicts, and the Sultan (and by extension the government) is certainly more worried about the expansion and consolidation of the Empire than in the wars in Europe.
Geography: Great part of the strategic value of the country lies in the fact that the Empire of Fez and Morocco is located in front of the confluence of Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, what made large amounts of pirates to operate from bases located in the nation, until Sultan Mohammed III fought and defeated the moroccan pirates in the late eighteenth century.
As all the Maghreb, Fez and Morocco has large extensions of desert, which have been growing slowly for centuries, making that in great zones of this rocky country (mainly located in the south and the west) are desert lands where only beduin tribes and trade caravans use to travel. In the center and south of the country, exists the Atlas Mountains, whiule in the North of the country are the so called Riff Mountains. The climate is mediterranean in the North , with high temperatures and unfrequent precipitations, becoming more extreme in the inner, deserty lands of the South, with high temperatures in the day and under zero temperatures in the night. Because of being near to the coasts, in the North of the Empire the temperatures are quite more stable. Most of the usable lands are actually pastures that are used for animal forraging.
And more things to come.....
