The Confederacy of Mississippi maintains a small central government, with most of the state simply run by local militias, which therefore report to the central government, led by Governor Ed Ballard. The state maintains a nice military, with two main bases; Camp Shelby for the southern half of the state, and Camp McCain for the northern half. The state maintains roughly 79,000 troops, with about 7,500 being basic infantry. This is severely dwarfed by the state militia, also known as the local government system, which maintains an estimated 142,000 members, ranging from the Jackson Metropolitan Militia, to the Cleveland Underground. The only aviation assets the state maintains is a retrofitted tanker battalion, which has been redesigned to become an AC-130 Spectre unit; and the 185th Aviation Group, which maintains all types of helicopters utilized by the former United States Armed Forces. Units range from Military Police to Air Traffic Control, to Field Artillery and Support. Camp McCain also houses the main supplement of the former United States' Special Forces Southeastern Command, and is maintained to the highest standard possible.

A center of liberal thought and intellectualism, Massachusetts was actually one of the few states to object to the dissolution of the Old US, owing to its unique heritage. However, as it is now on its own, the state has begun to prepare itself from potential enemies....
In the meantime, Governor Romney has gone ahead with his state's free healthcare plan, and has also begun floating a bill to expand the T into a statewide transit network, using a mix of new construction and old Amtrak lines requistioned by the state. And, Noam Chomsky has put out yet another book extolling his anarchist philiosophy (sigh).

In a controversial amendment, the Commonwealth Legislature is now debating a bill that would make service in the Defense Force mandatory, with a period of two years. Demonstrators in Harvard Yard called the bill "racist" and "warmongering," meanwhile, supporters say it will help provide a pool of trained manpower to help defend the Commonwealth.
A seperate bill, calling for the expansion of the Maritime Section, is less controversial, calling for a new Air Station on Martha's Vineyard and a new complex at Gloucester to house the MS, plus the addition of six new frigates and four destroyers, plus a possible submarine force to be raised.
On another note, the T bill has been passed, and construction has begun. The Commonwealth Transport Network, which is still being dubbed the T by many, will extend all over the state. The bill itself also contained a rider adding a 5% tax on SUVs and vehicles with less than 23mpg to encourage use of the network.

Work on the Commonwealth Transport Network has begun, with routes stretching from Great Barrington, Adams, and Pittsfield in the Western end, to Boston, Dartmouth, and Provincetown, with various stations and routes connecting various medium sized towns and cities. The network will mainly be a commuter system, though special transport lines out of Boston into other major Massachusetts cities such as Fall River will be made available.
Construction has also begun on the Gloucester Naval Yard. As for the national service bill, a heavily modified version has passed the Legislature, providing for officer status for college educated draftees, and provisions to allow them to continue their education whilst in service, along with other provisions that reduce term of service to one year.

Great Seal of New York
New York is a state in the former northeastern United States. It is called the United State of New York when there is need to distinguish it from New York City, the most populous city in both the state and the continent as well as to distinguish New York's system of government. Due to the preponderance of the population concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate with Downstate holding the upper hand because of a proportional population superiority to Upstate New York. New York's postal abbreviation is NY.

Government and Politics
After the collapse of the United States, the State of New York, while reforming itself into the United State of New York, made only a few changes to the State governmental system to accomodate. Firstly, the position of President of New York replaced the Governor as the executive Head of State for New York and was alloted the powers to which the President of the United States would normally be given and the method to which a President was elected was reformed from the old US electoral college system to the popular vote system (meaning New York City ultimately decides who is President). The New York State Legislature soon became the Legislative Congress of the Republic and kept the old divisions of Assembly and Senate alive within the new Congress. A Constitutional Council appointed by the interim President (who was voted immediately after the US collapse) which made the appropriate changes to the State's constitution as well as adding various liberal civil rights to be protected (while they had the chance, why not?) which includes the right to property and the right for all consenting individuals to get married civilly (religiously was left as a matter to religions). New York was one of the only states to have a public medical system before the collapse and continues to maintain and extend the Medicaid program today.
The court system in New York is notable for its "backwards" naming: the state's trial court is called the New York Supreme Court, while the highest court in the state is the New York Court of Appeals.
New York's subordinate political units are its 62 counties. Other officially incorporated governmental units are towns, cities, and villages.
Many of New York's public services are carried out by public benefit corporations, frequently known as authorities or development corporations. The most famous examples are probably the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which oversees New York City's subway, and the Port Authority of New York. Some of New York's public benefit corporations have come under fire in recent years. The New York Times, for instance, has come to see many of them as obsolete and wasteful, even going so far as to refer to them a shadow government. Far from unique to New York State, and actually fairly common in English-speaking countries, public benefit corporations give the state the opportunity to carry out economic goals and infrastructure maintenance, while making risky investments that don't put the state's credit on the line.
The two main parties in politics remain the Democrats and the Republicans though New York is unique in continuing to be the only state which maintains and has both a Liberal Party of New York and Conservative Party of New York which, though are independent, work side-by-side the Democrats and Republicans and run united Democrat-Liberal and Republican-Conservative tickets. Several smaller parties also run on their own. Currently, the Assembly has 125 Democratic and Liberal seats and only 25 Republican and Conservative seats. The New York Senate, however, currently has 30 Republican/Conservative Senators, 30 Democrat/Liberal Senators, 1 Libertarian Senator and 1 Working Families Party Senator.
New York City is a major Democratic stronghold with liberal politics. Many of the state's other urban areas, including Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Utica are also Democratic. However, upstate New York, especially in rural areas, is generally more conservative than the cities and tends to vote Republican. Heavily populated suburban areas such as Westchester County and Long Island usually hold the power in determining state elections. The restructuring of some of the electoral districts after the collapse has subsequently evened the Republicans and Democrats in the Senate.

New York is home to more of America's Jews (25% of their national total), Muslims (24%), Taoists (26%), and Greek Orthodox (25%) than any other state.

Response to the Break-up of the United States
New York was one of the states which was rather left out of the break-up of the Union rather thinking to itself "What the hell is going on?" As a result, it stayed back until there was hardly any Union to be a member of, that was the point where the stunned New Yorkers finally decided to formally declare an independence. New York has adopted a system of a liberal constitution, a bicameral Legislative Congress divided into an Assembly and a Senate for each County (though county lines have been slightly redrawn since). The President of New York is elected by popular vote rather than the electoral college system of the former United States and holds roughly the same powers and responsibilities of the executive office of the President of the United States before the collapse. New York did not suffer a violent collapse and as the economic powerhouse of America since well before the collapse, it is now the economic superpower of America with most states still largely dominated by companies based out of New York City. As a result, the Republic of New York is always out and about promoting free trade to tighten it's economic and cultural influence (it does still regard itself as the only true and real embodiment of the American spirit and New Yorkers already were culturally and societally unique to most Americans).

Our crew has began work on the embassy. We have a plot of land in Colombus for you to do the same if you wish. Also, we are interested in purchasing every single one of those vessels, name a price.

We estimate the price per ship being 20 million dollars. This price includes the ship and the minesweeper equipment. So it would be in total 520 million. If this price isn't acceptable the price can be reduced to a more reasonable amount.
