History:
PRELUDE
The Qing Dynasty is at its height following the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. Under the wisdom of Qianlong, China now includes the regions of the Western Provinces and Taiwan, along with some nominal territories along the Northern Provinces. However, problems are slowly seeping into China's ancient system, and it seems apparent that reform is needed very soon as the Western Powers continue to encroach upon the Celestial Empire. Already contacts with the foreigners have led to sparks of incivility, resulting in a rebellionn that plagues much of Sichuan province. The new Emperor Jiaqing realizes an urgency and institutes some changes in the Empire. Firstly, he forces the removal of Heshen, an impulsive corrupt official and an unnecessary legacy from his father. He reorders the military to combat the rebellion more efficiently. However, these changes seem not enough, and as he reflects of the Western visits to China, he realizes that China needs to revitalize themselves, for their superiority in the world has dimmed their innovative thoughts and relaxed their muscles too softly. Changes will be needed - by the border or the blade, they shall come.
1800
JAN - Jiaqing invites the Western Powers to China for a hospitality meeting and furthermore to determine what the West can do for China - and perhaps vice versa.
