President Justin Scharfe had many things going for him. He was 72 years old, in good health, and had been elected to 12 consecutive terms, over 22 years. He sat comfortably in his families private Learjet, flying to Ayl to see some family, along with him was his wife, two sons and daughters, and two of his aides. It was dusk. He sat in the leather chair, looking out the window, while his wife sat reading next to him. They would arrive within the hour. In the landing gear, a small beeping was continuing rhythmically.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT
Explosion rocks presidental plane
12AM-Ayl Willink-An explosion has destroyed a private plane carrying President Scharfe, several family members, and an undisclosed number of aides and other government officials. We are unable to contact any government officials for contact at this time, and we ask that you stay calm and in your homes, as the cause of the explosion has yet to be discovered. Witnesses reported that the explosion rippled out from the plane itself, and fears of a terrorist attack are abounded. We will have round-the-clock coverage as new information comes in, and will report with new details within minutes.
A banging on his door by an aide awakened Vice President Joseph Webster. He sat up, dreary and still half asleep. "Sir, something terrible has happened to the President, you must come now!" He jumped out of bed, threw on his pants and a white undershirt, put on his shoes, and ran to the door. "What happened?" the aide looked at him gloomily. "Uh...his plane blew up...we don't really know what else has happened yet, although it might have been a terrorist attack." The Vice President stood quiet for a moment, before regaining his posture. "Jesus Christ...." He could not think of anything else to say, but was hurried down the hallway to a waiting black Vistla EL-420, which sped off to the Capital. He would be sworn in when he arrived, and then would have to lead the nation into the horror that was ahead.
