Re: Port use

The Conspiracy of Communist Revolution greatly appreciates the Commonwealth's generosity in providing the Conspiracy with the use of their occupied ports and airfields.

Our ships have begun lining up and are waiting for orders to move forward and into the ports to deploy our forces.

Our aircraft are also waiting for orders to begin moving inland.

P. Miller

Over the past couple of days, the Conspiracy was forcing soldiers and vehicles ashore during the time St. Fedski allowed.

60,000 soldiers, four division or an entire corps had been forced ashore by helicopters, aircraft, and landing ships.

Of course, the landings were continually covered the by the F-20 Tiger Sharks that rotated shifts over the operation.

When the Conspiracy was not forcing forces ashore, only two squadrons were kept in the air in order to keep the air less congested.

~Transmission to all peacekeeping nations/allies of West Corinthia~

The time has come. West Corinthia has been in turmoil for nearly a month, and without a Czar. Peace has now been restored, due to the combined might of the West Corinthian army and the assistance of others. Now, you are all invited to witness the coronation of Czar Aleksei Kotov.

Along with this joyous occasion will be the need for all peacekeepers to return any lands they occupy within West Corinthia. If they so desire, they may rent bases or airfields from us until they feel ready to depart.

Please RSVP over the same channel. The coronation will be in one weeks' time, and proper dress is required. If attending, arrive at the Imperial Palace in Kydonia around noon, where you will be checked by Palace Myrmidons and then granted entry to the courtyard. We await your reply.

Signed,
Pyotr Chenko, emissary to the throne

In his office at Livadia Palace in Yalta, Prince William Kennedy listened to the message with Admiral Augustine and Generals Trotsky and Sherman. It had been a month since the chaos in West Corinthia forced Wilhelmsborough and other sympathetic nations to assist. But now, the chaos had been replaced with order. West Corinthia was stable again.

Prince William smiled as he reflected on the progress that had been made. The territories that had been occupied by the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Army Groups had been ceded back to the legitimate authorities of the region. The Wilhelmsborough forces were now in the coastal cities of Sochi, Novorossiysk, and Taganrog, loading troops and equipment onto hovercraft, and transporting them back to the Principality.

The Air Fleets themselves were already back in their respective Air Force Bases. With the exception of a couple Chinooks, the Air Force suffered no losses throughout this conflict.

The Active Denial Systems and the Capsule-Bs had functioned extraordinarily well in their first combat role. The ADS systems had been instrumental in driving back rebel forces, and keeping the casualties down for Wilhelmsborough's forces. The army was now looking into further advancements of this technology, including possibly a handheld model.

The Capsule-B's had been the key factor in the retaking of the Atopianan controlled city. As nobody had expected an attack by Killer Bees, the Atopianans were caught completely off guard. Several dozen were stung to death, their bodies covered with bee stingers. A couple more sufferer allergic reactions and then died.

The vast majority of them however, attempted to flee the city and get back to their country. But as soon as they left the Saint Fedskian protected area, they were no longer protected. The West Corinthian armors tore the Atopianans apart.

Not long after West Corinthia destroyed the fleeing Atopianans, the Kill Bee Zappers arrived at the airport, via C-17. These objects looked like an egg set upright, and attached via a tube to a driving area, which moved on tank treads. They moved through the bee-infested town, vibrating and emitting bright colors that bees hated. The bees were drawn to the object, and as they touched it, they were electricuted.

Predictably, the bees released their pheromones which caused other bees to attack. They were also destroyed by the zapper, which caused them to release their own pheromones, which drew even more bees in! Eventually, the Killer Bees were brought down to a level where people could come out of their homes. The remaining soldier bees would have to die on their own.

And now, peace had once again settled over these lands. It was now time for the young Prince Aleksei Kotov to assume his place as Czar of West Corinthia.

The Prince turned to his three Senior Officers.

"What do you think?" he asked. "Should we go to the Coronation?"

General Trotsky crossed his arms. "But of course! It is after all, the least he can do for saving his country. Besides, my Prince, you have never seen a Russian-style coronation!"

"Do the parties go long into the night?" the Prince asked.

The General smiled. "And straight into the next morning."

"Well in that case, count me in!"

General Sherman turned to General Trotsky. "I suppose then that you'll be drinking quite heavily, General?"

Trotsky grinned a wide smile. "Yes, General Sherman, I will. Do you need a partner for the games?"

We regret to hear of your recent history, and rejoice in this attempt at peace. This Coronation of your new Czar will of course be attended by myself, Kaiser Fredrik IV. In addition to seeing the fruition of the first deployment of German troops in over forty years, this visit will serve to sate some curiosities of mine.

First of all, I would like to inquire as to the possibility of my own navy establishing a large base of operations in your nation to ease further deployment of my own navy in the Black Sea.

I would also like to lease, or even purchase from you, a small location nearby the projected naval base to serve as a small garrison for a brigade-sized unit of Grenadiers, to help restore order and solidify positive German-Corinthian relations in the future. As we are currently moving in our 3rd Panzer division, to reinforce the 1st Panzergrenadier division already in country, this base would serve as a convenient point for their keeping until such a time as they can be removed and returned to duty in the Fatherland.

These, of course, are matters for another time, now is a time of celebration, of the coronation of a ruler over a nation torn with strife.

~Transmission to Kaiser Fredrik IV~
From: Field Marshal Garonov, speaking on behalf of Prince Aleksei

We are glad to hear you will be attending this week's ceremonies. However, we are not able to give you a military base in West Corinthia. As it was in the past, it is necessary that the people view the Czar as someone who brings stability. And as such, only soldiers of the Corinthian army may occupy the country during peacetime. Thank you for your letter.

In the Imperial Palace, preparations were being made frantically for the ceremony. The finest wines, cognac, and armagnac were being shipped in from around the country. Nobles were beginning to arrive in Kydonia, eager to show their unwed daughters to the Prince. Everything was peaceful, until the Prince entered Political Conferencing room.

Sitting at the far end of the table was Nikolai Sergevich, the late Czar's manager of propoganda. Upon seeing the Prince, he immediately stood at attention.

"As you were, Nikolai." the Prince told him. "You were good friends with my father?"

"We were in the KGB together before he took over the country." Nikolai answered. His thick Russian accent backed up his statement.

"The only surviving KGB member now in the cabinet...how interesting." the Prince took a seat at the opposite end of the table, looking at Nikolai.

"What do you mean by that?" Nikolai was getting defensive.

"You were in the KGB for nearly 10 years longer than my father, yet he managed to get promoted well above you. How did that make you feel?"

"What are you getting at, Prince? If you've come for something, get at it. Start acting like the Soviet you are!"

The Prince stood and pulled the gun out of his pocket. He took aim for Nikolai and shouted, "You hated that my father's career was more successful than yours. You pretended to be his friend, until you were in a position to hurt him. And you poisoned him, instead of fighting him like a man! You knew he would have beaten you!"

Nikolai didn't even have a chance to shout back. The room was swarmed by Myrmidons in full combat gear. They tackled Nikolai and hauled him off in chains. The Prince told the Myrmidons to bring him out at the coronation, where justice would be paid.

Re: Damages

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in discussion with the Ministries of Defence, Commerce and the National Treasurey of Saint Fedski have come to a unanimous decision regarding reparations of the unfortunate strike.

It has been decided that the attack on the West Corinthian camp was justified. All deaths, injuries, and damages, however unfortunate will not be accepted by or paid for by the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski, any member nation or Non-governmental organization within Saint Fedski.

In addition to the decision, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deeply regrets the unforunate results of the incident but strongly applauds the judgement of General Lynds, her staff and the makers of the missiles.

Czar Aleksei crumpled up the message and threw it casually over his shoulder.

"What do we do now?" Field Marshal Garonov asked, trying to read the expression on the Czar's face.

"We weren't asking for much. The reparations were more of an apology than a punishment. By refusing to pay, Saint Fedski has spat on Captain Stukov's grave, and all those who died trying to reclaim Buddenovsk. I'll have to issue a statement. We're getting Saint Fedski out, now." the Czar's face was grim, yet determined.

~Statement to all involved nations~

Saint Fedski made a terrible mistake by attacking West Corinthian soldiers. We were merely retaking one of our cities from a hostile, foreign invader. We were willing to overlook certain damages provided Saint Fedski agree to look after the families of those they butchered, but they refused.

In light of their refusal, we must make good on an earlier promise. Saint Fedski is hereby issued an ultimatum from the government of West Corinthia:

-All Saint Fedskian military personnel must leave the country within one (1) week.
-All land holdings and ports within the designated borders of West Corinthia will be handed over immediately, in good condition.
-Saint Fedskian civilians must evacuate within 2 (two) week(s), or face imprisonment.
-Saint Fedskian military and civilian equipment must be evacuated within two (2) week(s).
-All Saint Fedskian naval vessels are to leave West Corinthian waters immediately

If Saint Fedski refuses to heed these orders, West Corinthia will retake her soil by force, if necessary. We urge all true peacekeeping nations to stand with us.

The Shazbotdom Marine Corps was given orders. The 13th Company, 12th through 18th Division were being reassigned to the Marine Space Fleet for transportation to a new battle zone. The battle zone was to land just outside of the city and approach it. They would first attempt a diplomatic end to this conflict, by asking the Saint Fedskian military to peacefully leave. If it came down to it, the Shazbotdom Marine Corps would then take the fight to the Saint Fedski military. Driving them out of the city and then the country.

It took 50 Garrison class aircraft roughly 350 trips to move the entriety of the divisions were transported to the Marine Space Fleet. It would take them roughly 5 hours to get to the battlezone. From the Office of the Vice Chairman of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski

As a peacekeeping force in West Corinthia, the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski feels that all appropriate measures have been taken by the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski to ensure that peace was achieved and maintained. Being deemed an illegal force by both the official government of West Corinthia and the various, however temporarily subdued, paramilitary factions, groups and forces will hamper any effort to monitor the situation in the future. As a result of the cessation of major hostilities and the presence of a number of other peacekeeping forces, especially those from the region, The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski has begun pulling its peacekeeping forces out of West Corinthia. The movement shall take eight days to complete and will include all martime and ground combatants.

Traval Advisory Issued - West Corinthia
Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Due to recent hostilities between the Governement of the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia and the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski, citizens planning on travalling to West Corinthia are strongly urged to remain in Saint Fedski as they will be refused entry to West Corinthia.

Citizens currently in West Corinthia will subject to the will of the Czarist Republic and their safety cannot be guaranteed beyond two weeks from the issuing of this notice. Re: Ultimatum

The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski has already begun to remove its forces from West Corinthia. As stated in the press release, the full movement will require eight days.

However the ultimatum issued by the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia will not be recognized. Any attempt at forcing the removal of either military or civilians belonging to the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski will be declared as deliberate provocation and may be dealt with in the same efficient manner as the unjustified attack on Buddenovsk.

All citzens of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski, who for whatever reason, remain in the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia must not be harmed should they be detained. Should citizens of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski be detained, the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia has but twenty-four hours to acknowledge their detainment and file deporation orders.

"Some peanut of a nation. Barely the size of a city. I won't even bother responding to that one."

Najaster, Capital of Kahanistan

President Marcellus Valens read over the recent political statements over the conflict. This could lead to war, and we still do not know what Kravania's intentions are...

Valens sat down at his desk and proceeded to write up a statement. His secretary was getting fewer and fewer hours as Valens preferred to write his own statements.

DEMOCRATIC SOVIET REPUBLIC OF KAHANISTAN
Office of the President

The Government of Kahanistan warns all GASN nations to keep their forces a safe distance from Kahanistanian territory. We are currently on high alert following a Kravanian nuclear strike and some naval officers will shoot first.

Further, we advise against attacks on our ally, Saint Fedski. An attack on the Commonwealth or its forces will bring the Soviet Republic into the war against whoever launched the attack.

Signed,
General Marcellus Q. Valens,
President of Kahanistan

SECRET IC:
SCENE: Imperial Palace, Shaz City
George was sitting in his office, sipping his small glass of the finest of Shazbotdom's many types of wines. He had been going over the differnet reports from each Minister, seeting if there was anything of importance happening in the world for the past week, his normal routine on a saturday night. He was about halfway though reading the second to last report when Larry walked into the room. George looked up from his desk to see the look on Larry's face. He looked like he was watching those damned cartoons again that pick fun at the government.

George: "So what happened on the cartoons there, Larry"

Larry: "It wasn't the cartoons, sir. I got a reply from Saint Ferdski. It's basically them mocking us, sir."

Larry then handed George the message, of which he printed out off of his computer.

To: Mr. Larry Williams
From: Madam Robynne Hay
Re: Ultimatum

The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski will not be moved into action by the threats of the Dark Empire of Shazbotdom.

Any attempt by the Dark Empire to intervene in the current movement of Saint Fedskian forces will be a direct act of war on a neutral peacekeeping force and WILL NOT be taken lightly by the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski.

The complete removal of forces belonging to the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski has already begun and thus any attack on them is a pure intent to start trouble, trouble in which the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski shall call your bluff should you seek to continue hostilities.

May the Dark Empire of Shazbotdom make the proper choices.

George read over the message and then chuckled to himself. He then crumpled it up and tossed it in his recyling bin across the room (it had a basketball hoop over it). He stood up and walked over to the window that overlooked the old Parliamentary Building and Parliament Square, which the foliage was being kept up even after the quiet revolution that closed down the paliament some years ago. After looking out the window for a few minutes, he turned around to face Larry.

George: "Alright. They mock us, we mock them, but not in a verbal fashion. I want a flight group of thirty Thunderbolts to make a pass near their retreating fleet. Send them straight down the middle of the fleet but their orders are to not fire unless fired upon. Go give the new orders to Grand Admiral Rockenbach."

Larry: "Yes, Sir."

Larry then turned around and quietly walked out of the office, leaving George all alone, just how he liked it.

TO: The Leadership of the Deomocratic Soviet Republic of Kahanistan
FROM: Mr. Larry Williams, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Our force deployment is after the Commonweath of Saint Fedski viciously assaulted a military group from a nation that they were supposedly being "peacekeepers" in. Now the definition of a Peacekeeper is to stay in an area and Keep the Peace. Keeping the peace doesn't equal killing military members trying to peacfully retake a city after the legitimate government stays in power, now does it? Saint Fedski was asked to reimburse West Corinthia for the loss of those military officers, and they said they wouldn't because it wasn't their fault.

I'm sorry but if the Governemnt of Saint Fedski wants to deny that their troops did any wrong in this conflict, then it's a matter of International Security and a matter for the Global Alliance of Sovergn Nations to step in, to defend it's own. This matter does not involve you, so why jump in when we are just going to force foreign murderers out of a nation? Not a wise decision if you ask me...

To All Nations Standing Against Saint Fedski

This sudden and surprising rise of hostility against Saint Fedski's forces located in West Corinthia has put the Principality of Wilhelmsborough in a very difficult position. If your combined forces plan to attack the West Corinthian-based forces, I fear that you may send naval forces.

This simply will not do. The 1st Fleet, located in the Bosporus, is charged with keeping unwanted military elements out of the Black Sea. We do not just let anyone's navy into the Black Sea, especially those who wish to start armed hostilities with other countries.

Although we have no official allience with Saint Fedski and only worked together as peacekeepers in West Corinthia, I cannot let your navies enter the Black Sea. If you wish to fight the Saint Fedskian military, you will have to get to them via alternative routes.

Your willingness to cooperate, to a degree, is commendable. However, it was made quite clear in our earlier statement that you were to have exactly 1 week to evacuate military personnel. Pushing for eight days is the equivalent to overstaying your welcome, and we are not as forgiving as the in-laws.

If you must simply drop everything in order to accomodate these guidelines, then that is what you must do. As stated earlier, you have extra time to retrieve your equipment through a third-party if necessary.

We will, however, keep your civilians from harm whilst they stay in West Corinthia. This may be a tense situation, but we harbor no ill-feelings towards your populace.

From: Czar Aleksei

As much as I hope this situation does not degenerate into war, I must ensure that we are ready for anything. By now you have recieved a message from Wilhelmsborough saying that they will not grant you entry into the Black Sea. There is nothing I can do about this, as Wilhelmsborough is one of our closest allies and we dare not lose them as such.

However, I will open all airports to you and begin constructing landing strips in flat areas to accomodate for increased air traffic. Fighter patrols in West Corinthian airspace can escort any cargo planes or aircraft you may wish to deploy to West Corinthia. For now, diplomacy will have to take it's course.

We will notify you if and when we will land troops if you have the room. If not then we will figure something else out. God bless.

The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski greatly respects the moderate approach of the People's Republic of Hurtful Thoughts. Had the People's Republic jumped directly into hostilities, it would have been under false and erroneous pretences.

Whilst the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski has already begun removing troops from Saint Fedski, it could do some good to get the other viewpoint across as the attack on West Corinthian forces was indeed brought upon by a West Corinthian Captain who decided to ignore the advice of the peacekeeping forces.

As the Secretary General, I invite a delegation from the People's Republic of Hurtful Thoughts to come to Sarnia, the capital for a brief stay and a meeting discussing the situation in West Corinthia. Upon reciept of the reply, members of the MIA (Ministry of International affairs) went about selecting a free delegate, as moderating multiple GASN hostilities has almost become a full time job for the comparatively small nation.

It was decided to send former Minister of Foriegn Affairs, Mr Major; but he could not be found anywhere within the country, which was odd behavior for a Minister of Defense, but these recent days had been rather odd indeed as PROHT had almost turned 180 degrees since Hubert Pinkerton took control.

Short list of FBIA/MIA member roster
James O'Brian: MIA, presumed lost
Dimitri: MIA, missing in another conflict
Marcus Gable: MIA, Presumed lost
Donnovan: Unavailable
Igor Ranski: Just returned from overseas
Gopher: MIA
Gotree: AWOL
Goner: KIA
Gato: KIA

A reply letter was quickly sent:
To: Madam Robynne Hay
From: Hubert Pinkerton
CC: Jessie Donnovan

We would be delighted to send an active member of of Ministry of Foriegn Affairs to your capitol in Sarnia to discuss what further actions shall be required and your potential future involvement in West Corinthian affairs.

Sadly, recent ill use of our delegates by our former Ministry has whitled our list of suitable delegates down to only one person, and since he is of such value in future moderation, we shall send a reletively heavy full time guard of 12 FBIA officers.

The person we are sending is ambassador Igor Ranski, whom recently managed to escape from a very tragic plane crash, and saw heavy fighting before being pulled out by a non-aligned SAR helicopter and returned to PROHT mainland. He is very experianced at what he does.

Cravan - It was intentional to a point. I couldn't think of anything to say to it without losing face. Had I repsonded with a "your opinion has been noted' my tough talk with the other nations would've been seen as just talk. Had I responded with tough talk, I may have been opening the door for more than just minor military action. The key word that through me off in the statement was "possible minor military action". What am I supposed to say to that? Minor military action does not entail full scale war like everyone else is threatening, nor does it carry with it any major political consequences. It seems to be merely a force to show you are supportive of the GASN. My characters simply filed it. My apologies for not letting you know though.

P.S...To answer your question yes, you should do something. Don't use such perfect wording.

To some of the newer RPers, the above is OOC info so you can't use it ICly.

While it should not be done, the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski thanks the Principality of Wilhelmsborough for standing strong and defending the Bosporus strait.

Should a nation, hostile to the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski, dare to attempt a breach of the Bosporus strait, would the Principality of Wilhelmsborough actively engage?

How far is the Principality of Wilhelmsborough willing to go to protect the peace in the region if it can be easily obtained with a defeat of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski?

Should a nation commence hostilities with the Principality of Wilhelmsborough, what would the reaction be? Would there be a de facto alliance with the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski or would it be a one time action against the offending nation?

The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski strongly urges the Principality of Wilhelmsborough to propose a peace process between the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia and the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski. Igor Ranski and 12 FBIA officers boarded flight 86-980 after a thorough ground inspection upon landing at Notoorough International Airport, PROHT.

The flight was given an armed escort of two Hurtian business jets in radio and visual contact with the flight at all times.

Even though Igor thought it best to either walk or take public transportation from Molson Airport to the capitol, he and his staff complied with the demands of the Fedeski guards, and stepped into the waiting limos.

With them they took their luggage bags.

One of the FBIA officers downed a few pills upon landing.

Igor recognizes the man:

"Aren't you supposed to be dead?"

We assure you, our technology is NOT inferior. As a GASN, UNA, and ANC member nation, we are provided the pinnacle of technologies in ALL fields. However, we do retract our statement. We will give Saint Fedski it's 8 days to completely pull out of West Corinthia. If all of Saint Fedski's troops are not out of West Corinthia by your set timeline, they will be considered extreme threats, and will be dealt with as such. We DO NOT reccommend that Saint Fedski claim to "make Asgarnieu an enemy". We do not wish to be enemies with Saint Fedski. As per your "orders", we will not comply with the '500 Kilometers around Saint Fedski' suggestion. Asgarnieu utilizes that route as both regular trade routes and patrols. We assure that NO military ships will go through the area. Should an international emergency or situation occur, and we must go through the area, we will. It is, however, reccommended that Saint Fedski military ships refrain from entering the 250-mile exclusion zone around Asgarnieu, as they are territorial waters. Civilian ships are more than welcome to pass through or stay. We also wish that the leaders of Saint Fedski take a diplomatic trip to Balkan City. We wish to discuss the situation that has taken place. We are, however, putting Saint Fedski on the Asgarnian, Collective Asgarnian, and GASN/UNA/ANC Black Book until Saint Fedski's intentions regarding diplomatic relations are made clear. We wish to thank you for complying with GASN doctrine, and thank you for making an effort to be civilized.

NOTE: Should Saint Fedski attack Asgarnieu, it's territorial possessions, or it's protectorates, The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski WILL be turned into mere plate glass. We assure you, this is not a threat, just an outline of what would occur. Thank you.

"I have recieved word that our crew monitoring the radar in Point Edward has picked up three foreign aircraft entering closed air space and should be arriving in nearly a minute. Let me recap the mysterious events that have unfolded this evening. Roughly nine hours ago, members of the eighty-eighth police battalion arrived, shutting down the entire north end of the island. Steel barriers, chain link fences, and a ton of vehicles have effectively isolated North Sarnia island from the rest of the world."

Whines, quite unlike those from the massive governmental jets used by Saint Fedski or the powerful CF-17s, began to pierce through the night noises of buzzing, screeching and growling.

"It appears that three business style jets are now landing. The passengers will most likely be whisked away amid a swarm of security personnel."

Sure enough, just as Laura predicted, the delegation from the People's Republic of Hurtful Thoughts was swarmed by black clad security personal and 'kindly' escorted to the awaiting limousines.

The sound of three fabulous Rolls Royce limousines couldn't be heard over the din of the security vehicles, nor could the lights be seen.

The three vehicles sped down the vehicleless, but quite populated streets towards the buildings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the awaiting Minister.

The small convoy slowed to a halt with Mr. Ranski's ride stopping directly infront of Madam Hay.

Opening the door for Mr. Ranski, Robynne presented a small figure, barely five foot five, and weighing in at a might one hundred pounds. Her beautiful straight blond hair waved in the light wind as he pearly whites glimmered amongst the shadows.

Igor Ranski was roughly 6' 2" and wieghed a lean 120 pounds after surviving in a jungle for almost a week without food or medical treatment when one of his planes went down from a terrorist bombing while en route to a meeting he was to moderate regarding nuclear weapons and various peace accords and border disputes. As such, he looked rather ragged and tired, but still had a smile on his face as if everything was made better simply by seeing Madam Robynne Hay in person.

"Welcome to Saint Fedski" She said. "I am Madam Robynne Hay, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski. Would you prefer to sit in our V.I.P lounge or come up to my office?"

"Oh well, at least I can rely on my security 100% to keep me alive no matter what happens"

He noticed that she was taken back by his first impressions of the estate, and explained:

"That was a joke, you know, sarcasm? You don't get very far in polotics without a good sense of humur and fair play. Knowing how to survive an assasination plot or two comes in handy, but not as much as you'd think."
------
He looked behind him, and noticed one of his security detail had started to grin in a very odd manner that maked one wonder if he was simply very happy, or contemplating the notion of biting someones head off when they weren't looking.

"One moment"

*thwack*

"Now stop that!"

Officer: "But I was just thinking..."

Ranski: "save it, you are scaring the locals"
-----
"Shall we continue?"

Finally, after a brisk walk up a flight of stairs, Madam Hay burst into the large office through both heavy oak doors at once. Inside was a larger table surrounded by eight crimson chairs and eight phones. On the table, eight crimson shaded lamps, eight note pads, eight pens and eight glasses of ice water awaited the delegates.

"We are sorry but this is the largest office allowed at our disposal tonight. All other buildings have been sealed for the night."

"This'll work fine, my guardsmen preffer to stand, right?"

"Yes sir, these accomodations will be perfect"

Ranski pulls out a pen and notepad from his pocket, and sits down.

"Now then, what shall we talk about first?"

One of his 'associates' reminds him:
"About the attacks on West Corinthian personel during a peace keeping operation in West Corinthia"

"Oh, yes, that. I was informed that it would be benificial that we heard your perspective on that situation first, before going any further."

My nation, the Republic of Ustia has been monitoring the situation in WC for some time now. At first we didn't know if we should get involved considering other GASN members where already involved but now because of your "National Enemy Act" are stance has changed Dramatically. You have no right to tell a nation where he can and can't go especially in International waters. All my ally did was say if you didn't leave in a week he'd act, thats it. I well stand by my allys and warn you if you don't leave in the time given to you Ustia well make you leave. So now I guess your going to include me in this "National Enemy Act" just because I'm making sure you keep your word and leave this country. If this is true then so be it.

Regarding: International Hostilities

Your involvement in West Corinthia is not required. The deployments of Wilhelmborough, West Corinthia, The Conspiracy, Londim and Groznyj are more than enough to eject Saint Fedsky if need be.

I can assure you that any attempt at intervening against a peacekeeping force militarily, including Saint Fedsky, will be considered a direct act of war on The Conspiracy.

You must understand that we have a sizeable force in the area with Saint Fedsky so the chances of collateral damage are quite high. We cannot have you attacking Saint Fedsky for as long as our troops are still on the ground.

I know you will respect the wishes of The Conspiracy and postpone your intervention until the proper time.

The Conspiracy stands to recognize Saint Fedski as a legitimate peacekeeping force.

Saint Fedsky's rule was that an attack on any single peacekeeper was an attack on all peacekeepers and peacekeepers only. Their attack on the West Corinthian formation was in keeping with their policy. The Conspiracy will recognize the rule and thus if Saint Fedskyian troops are attack, it will be taken as an attack on us.

As long as Saint Fedski leaves West Corinthia when there suppose to Ustia will not get involved. The reason why I "might" get involved is that it has to do with GASN law and Saint Fedski is breaking West Corinthia's sovereignty which is a major part of are organization. Its up to Saint Fedski whether the GASN and me get involved and if he doesn't leave then the GASN will consider you and anybody else that helps Saint Fedski enemies and supporters of a nation violating West Corinthia's sovereignty.

Above West Corinthia

5 F-213 Death Angles streaked low acorssed the dimming sky of the territory currenly being held by Saint Fedski. Arrowhead formation, sun glinting a golden orange off their wings as they roared through the sky. It was twilight and these fighters had been launched by the aircraft carrier BNS Mainstay, currently stationed in the open ocean not to far away from West Corinthia. Their mission? Show presence.

To the east the sky was blackening, though still violet and a deep indigo as the sun gradually lowered in the sky opposing it. Inside the fighters, communications with Checkmate had been fairly quiet. It was peaceful, there, in the evening sky, sort of calming despite the situation at hand. Storm 1 checked in with Checkmate.

"Checkmate, this is Storm 1, we have reached the objective."
"Copy that Storm lead, keep us posted. We have assistance on stand-by if neccessary."
"10-4 Checkmate."
"Stay safe Storm lead."
"Will do, bud."

And with that he was once again entrenched in the silence of the setting sun. Hopefully, if all went well, he wouldn't have to hear the crackling again for some time...

The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski takes the uttering of threats of nuclear, biological and chemical weaponry very seriously. This is the single warning that the The Almighty Empire of Zukariaa will recieve before being included in the National Enemy Act. The Almighty Empire of Zukariaa has no grounds for which to even utter threats of a nuclear, biological or chemical attack and as such is considered extremely hostile. Re: Fools

The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski demands an apology for the unprovoked threats of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare.

The exclusion zone limits stand only for military transport. Access by civilian vessels and aircraft is still permitted, although being monitored. The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski acknowledges the exclusion zones extend into international waters, however, they have been decided upon as the last warning to nations with hostile intent. The uttering of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare by The Supreme Tyranny of Jaredcohenia has cause immediate concern and is thus the reason of such a measure.

Any military vessel or aircraft operating near the exclusion zone will be monitored and any vessel or aircraft disregarding the limits will be considered to have hostile intent and will be dealt with as such.

Thank you for your cooperation.

"I have been informed that time is a factor for you, so forgive me as I will skip the customary Saint Fedskian formalities."

Robynne reached for a glass of water, taking a slow sip and beginning.

"The policies of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski peacekeeping force were well known to the leadership of West Corinthia prior to their engaging of hostilities with the occupiers of Atopiana. It was policy that should a peacekeeping force be attacked, the entire peacekeeping force would have the right to retaliate. After daily warnings and assurances to the West Corinthian leadership, an Atopianian anti-aircraft gun opened fire on a surveillance aircraft from Wilhelmsborough, thus sparking the West Corinthian attack."

Robynne paused for a moment.

"General Lynds, the Saint Fedskian theatre commander, sent messages to the West Corinthian leadership promising quick and decisive action against any party that violated the peace. In this case, both sides violated it. The constant air patrols over Buddenovsk and the West Corinthian forces were to monitor and engage only if the peace was violated. When tanks and soldiers began to advance on the city under the cover of an artillery bombardment, the fighters pounced, knocking out several guns and armoured vehicles. In an attempt to limit the effectiveness of the artillery, cruise missiles were launched to knock out the fire control and communication centers of the West Corinthian forces in the immediate area. As the missiles begun their final approach, the West Corinthians signaled a cessation and began to withdrew. The signal came just too late, with only two of the three missiles being able to self-destruct prior to detonation. The third missile, landed on target, killing a senior commander and his staff as well as knocking out some major communications."

Her body rose as Robynne drew in a deep breath and took another sip of water from the glass covered in condensation.

"We regret having to take such drastic steps, but the decision by General Lynds is supported and applauded by the Security Council and the effectiveness of the strike is also applauded. Had General Lynds not followed through with the warning, the entire presence would have lost credibility and therefore would have been less influential."

"Sire, apparently Saint Fedski claims control over some portions of our airspace." a messenger delivered the notice to the Czar.

"Isn't that the sort of thing you should have told me earlier?" Any news regarding Saint Fedski's actions were now a hot-button issue with Czar Aleksei.

"They were running the patrols without our knowledge. We only recently picked up a group of their fighters on radar."

"What sections?" The Czar sighed and rested his head on his arm as he tiredly looked over the map of his empire.

"Mostly around the areas they haven't returned to us yet. They have also encroached into our airspace here and...here." the messenger pointed out the corresponding locations on the map.

"This close to the evacuation they shouldn't be patrolling MY airspace. Double our own patrols and send fighters over whatever airspace we don't already have covered. If our patrols meets one of theirs, we can escort them back to a designated airfield. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir. I do, sir." the messenger saluted and returned to his duties.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moments later a hooded figure entered the throne room. Draped in black, the man neared the throne and bowed.
"Thank you for coming on such short notice." the Czar stood to acknowledge him. "We have important matters to attend to. Come with me."
Czar Aleksei led the hooded man into his private meeting quarters. Both men sat at opposite ends of a long wooden table.
The Czar continued, "You are the last surviving member of my father's cabinet. I've always questioned what use he had of you, but now I understand. You see, I now require your services. You'll be given your same position on my cabinet and your rank in the military restored."
"To what do I owe this unexpected change in heart?" the voice from under the black hood was deep and perilous.
"Revenge." the Czar answered. "It's as simple as that."
"Just tell me the name of my mark. I'll take care of the rest."
"General Lynds of Saint Fedski. Lynds ordered the attack on us at Buddenovsk. I want him dead. You'll be provided with whatever you need."
"Just say when." the hooded man replied.
"When." the Czar answered firmly.
"Hmmm, I had been briefed by the West Corinthians, they considered Atopiana not as peacekeepers, but as invaders. And therefore saw no right for you to intervene on Atopiana's behalf. We've seen similar situations before. Normally a small communnication error."
[pause]
"If that is the case, I would be very willing to try and reason with them, but you'll have to apologize for needlessly killing West Corinthians. Since you said so yourself, it was not supposed to have killed anybody. They may understand that one of your officers got a little crazy and fired missiles and someone tried to stop them, but one still landed. That is what they want an apology for, for not understanding in time."
[He paused to let the idea sink in]
"Choosing not to apologize, what do you think that'll do to your country? You have nothing to gain and everything to loose. Just apologize, give them some space, and try and patch things up after a new leader is elected. These things happen."
Ranski starts packing up his notes from the West Corinthian brief and unpacked notes to write down Saint Fedski's accounts, his pen slips and rolls into a vent, as all 12 of his guards dogpile after it. Followed by the metalic 'thud' that one hears when a pen drops roughly half a meter down an air duct and settles.
"$*!%, that was my favorite pen..."
He picks up a pen from the desk, and is slightly dissatisfied with its quality.
He then writes down a summary of SF's side of the story, on a separate page, he writes a conclusion:
Communication error/Misunderstanding
Deaths accidental - tried to self destruct missiles
Suggested that they apologize and let time pass
lost favorite pen in office ductwork, must get a new one
General Lynds did exactly what she was instructed to do my her mandate. An apology was made shortly after, but it was decided upon that reparations will not be made."
She stopped for a couple seconds before making another comment.
Czar Aleksei sat atop his throne in the Imperial Palace, watching seconds tick off the clock. For such a slow day, he was especially well-dressed. Wearing his finest hoplite (http://public.carnet.hr/husar/Greek%20Hoplite%205th%20Cent%20BC.jpg) armor forged of pure gold, you would have expected that he might be meeting the emperor of a foreign country or making a public address. Instead he sat, waiting. Every five minutes he would recieve an update on the Saint Fedski situation.
"How long until the deadline expires?" he finally asked a nearby messenger.
"Well, are you giving them the eight days they asked for?"
"No. I gave them seven. How many days until their seven are up?"
"Six."
"Six days. Captain!" he called a Captain, 1st class, to his side.
"Yes, sire."
"You have six days to make all necessary preparations. For now, make a show of force. When the deadline expires, it will no longer be a show. You'll be granted access to everything we've got. Planes, armor, infantry, even the ICBMs. But conventional ordnance only, do you understand?"
"Yes, sire."
"Good. Mobilize the divisions on the border of Saint Fedskian occupied territory. If they question your intentions, tell them that you're preparing to accept the territory back into West Corinthian hands, following their withdrawal. On the eighth day, you go in, full strength. If they're gone, they're gone. If they're not, I trust your judgement."
"You ask much of me. Why not have Field Marshal Garonov take care of it?" the Captain questioned.
"Field Marshal Garonov is busy. We're going to try to have him mediate the situation. You can have the other captains advise you if you wish. This is just a little incentive for them to meet the deadline."
Subject: A fragile peace is about to be shattered.
CC: International Community
The Republic of Zeoch applauds the wisdom and dedication to peace that The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski has shown in agreeing to withdraw its military forces from The Czarist Republic of West Corinthia. This action has proven to Zeoch that Saint Fedski’s only reason for entering West Corinthia was the pursuit of peace after the death of Czar Vasili Kotov.
Many nations have chosen side in this unfortunate conflict and their statements have, at times, been misinterpreted on both sides.
We of Zeoch believe that all the nations involved seek a peaceful resolution to this unfortunate situation that we all now find ourselves in. we also believe that Saint Fedski and its allies are committed to peace. We further believe that the new Czar of West Corinthia dose not want to be remembered as the ruler of a nation who, when peace was within his reach, trusted it away in favor of a war that could leave millions dead and nations in flames. Do any of us really want to go to war if waiting an additional twenty-four hours could have prevented it?
The Republic of Zeoch strongly urges Czar Aleksei Vostrokev of The Czarist Republic of West Corinthia to grant Saint Fedski forces within your borders the time they have requested to withdraw form you great nation.
To The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski, we urge you to hold a press conference where you would publicly state that your only reason for entering West Corinthia was for the peace and stability of that nation. You came to create peace; it is unfortunate that now your presence is the cause such an unintended consequence.
All of our nations are in the middle of a great mine field and each one of us holds a peace of the map showing the only save way out. Together we can all survive this.
Since Saint Fedski is withdrawing Zeoch officially withdraws its previous message as it was made in haste. We are also changing our status in this conflict from an aggressive supporter of West Corinthia to neutral. Zeoch will only go to war if the GASN as a whole decides to intervene and we do not see this as happening.
Zeoch is a small and relatively unknown nation that’s only ties to West Corinthia are through the GASN. As such, in support of a peaceful resolution, Zeoch offers to serve as a safe haven and mediation point for all nations involved and pledge our military to protect any delegates that our sent to our nation.
Exasperated, frustrated, and tired; Igor Ranski gets out of his chair once again, motions to say something, but says nothing, then walks for the door, mumbling something under his breath.
At the door he turns around:
"Its been a long day, mind if we stay here for the night, our pilot isn't feeling all too well."
It wasn't really a lie, depending on what a 'pilot' was. But he was pretty sure that as long as he stayed, no bombs would be dropped on Saint Fedski.
As soon as he left the building and was walking to the motel, ignoring the Fedski guards as they shouted something at him, he picked up his phone and dialed...
"Yes, it's pretty bad, we'll need a shield down here quick, it should be something small, fast, and with long reach, followed by something that can stay here for longer peroids of time. This'll take awhile."
Upon turning off his phone he started to notice that he was being yelled at, again, by foriegn guards. He really didn't care what they said anymore, he'll...
"You may spend a night. The lieutenant will lead you to your rooms." Robynne said impatiently before motioning the lieutenant to lead the delegates away.
After the delegates disppeared through the doors, Captain Ronson, deputy chief of base security, arrived. "Madam, lockdown in order?"
Robynne replied with a crisp "Yes."
"How much locking Madam?"
"They are not to leave their rooms. If they leave, place them under arrest."
"Yes Ma'am." Ronson replied as he briskly walked towards the door. "They will be contained."
Ronson continued out the door after the delegation.
"Hey, stop." He shouted once he got outside. "Stop right there!"
The lieutenant, escorting the politicians stopped, and ordered them to stop as well. "Hold on" He said, "The captain wants a word."
Captain Ronson was charging down the street behind them.
"Lieutenant, they are to be housed on the 100 Block as security is extremely tight right now. It's for their own safety."
"Yes sir" The lieutenent saluted before leading the group off to 100 block.
Waiting until the group was out of earshot, Ronson spoke into his radio. "Ronson to base. Containment team to 100 block immediately. Lockdown code alpha."
"Roger Captain." Came the reply.
In the security depot, fifty members of the military police were gearing up in full containment gear. Snipers would be positioned on nearby buildings while four guards would block each exit. A team would be on the roof while partnerships would patrol the hall. Finally, seven men were positioned in the room next door to monitor the conversations.
Larissa got out of her bunk and opened the steel door "Ah Admiral Bradley"
"You're going to love this Lariss, West Corinthia has a warrant for your arrest."
"No shit?"
"No. They want you extradited immediately to face, and I quote, a free and fair trial in West Corinthia."
"Have any orders come through?"
"Just one. We are to delay the completion by another day."
"How the hell do they expect us to do that?"
"I suggest we cite communication errors or technical difficulty. We can't blame weather as its perfect."
"Alright, communication problems it is. Signal the land forces."
"Yes ma'am." Bradley replied as he walked out of the General's chamber and towards the bridge.
"Sir" A young officer said to get Bradley's attention "Another message has come in. It's heavily encoded."
"Thank you" The Admiral replied taking the message from the officer. Reading it in his head "get special forces ashore. They know their mission."
"Colonel Reaume to the bridge, Colonel Reaume to the bridge."
"Colonel Reaume reporting as ordered sir" The six foot, five inch, two hundred thirty pound, piece of muscle saluted.
"You are going ashore. You know your mission?"
"Yes sir. We will make contact with you noon tomorrow."
"Thank you, good luck."
With that, the colonel hurried back to his room to grab his team. They would be going ashore on the next helicopter flight after dark.
A considerable time later...
The Hurtians became aquainted with their housing.
It looked like a typical motel, a very good motel.
They started talking:
Ranski: "I thought you died on your last mission?"
Hannibal: "Same here, that stunt you pulled on that plane ride had us wondering who you worked for, almost thought you'd be hanged just for the inconvienance."
R: "I'm too valuable for that, but I really thought you died when the city was bombed"
H: "You weren't there, it was far worse than you could... myabe not quite that bad, had to chew my way out after the blast. Those zombies really do tear at you."
R: "Kinda like these bugs, and that Air conditioner seems to be acting up again."
H: "So, what do you think would happen now?"
R: "If we are lucky, absolutely nothing until we leave, but life has a funny way to make things difficult. Best keep two men awake at all times, and resserve 4 for daily functions. I'm going to have a look around"H: "Security seems, I don't know, tight... Reminds me of the camps we worked at."
R: "Don't remind me, that's the sort of the reason why I want to take a walk in the first place. Too many painful memories..."
H: Don't forget, BBW.
R: "Yeah, CMITC..."
General Ivan Marshall was at the Central Command Center in Balkan City talking with General Hubert Davis.
"So I said to the guy, 'That's not a hairball, that's my mother!" General Marshall said.
"Oh, that was a good one. It never gets old!" exclaimed General Davis.
"So, what's new with our present situation?" General Davis asked.
"Nothing much. Saint Fedski told West Corinthia that they would be delayed one day with their withdrawl." General Marshall replied.
"Sounds strange." General Davis added.
"That's what I sai..." General Marshall almost said.
"Sir! We've got movement of an unidentified helicopter moving toward West Corinthia!" a Watch Commander exclaimed.
"Who's is it?" General Marshall inquired.
"The markings aren't visible, Sir." the Watch Commander answered.
"Trace it back to it's origin!" General Marshall ordered.
"Sir, it came from the last known position of a ship in Saint Fedski's Naval Fleet." the Watch Commander said.
"What's the name of the ship?" General Davis inquired.
The Watch Commander looked through the Information Database that contained the names of all of the naval ships involved in the West Corinthian conflict. He got the name.
"One 'SFS Sarnia', Sir." the Watch Commander said.
"OK, put an RG-129 over the area to record all data. I want SIGINT, VISINT, and ELINT." General Marshall ordered.
"Yes, Sir. We'll also assign a flight of F-15's to patrol the area." the Watch Commander added.
"Good. Alert ground troops and YAL-1ABL's to keep a keen eye on the area. Send 2 Platoons of Special Forces troops to the area that the helo lands in, but keep them about 1 mile away. I don't want any slip-ups. Authorize them to utilize deadly force if they are attacked. As far as anyone else knows, they're just doing a regular ground patrol. Then, send 10 F-35's to do a fly-by over Saint Fedski controlled territory. Keep them unarmed, except for their cannons and 2 bay-mounted AIM-9's." General Marshall ordered.
"Yes, Sir!" the Watch Commander replied.
The YAL-1ABL's took off from an airbase located in West Corinthia. The F-15's took off from the same airbase, as well as the RG-129. The F-35's took off from the ANS Guarantee.
The Special Forces group was alerted that they were to move to the area in which the helo landed. They readied their gear.
Garonov sent a copy of the Saint Fedskian transmission to Czar Aleksei. The Czar frowned as he read it. "Another day? On top of the 8th day they already demanded? What do you think about it?"
"Pure bullshit," the Field Marshal responded quickly. Then, thinking, he added, "m'lord."
"Probably. But why would they be stalling?"
"They're obviously trying to cause an incident. They have nothing better to do than taunt us with their presence." Garonov crossed his arms and looked over the Czar's shoulder at the report one more time.
"I'm not going to bite. No more compromises. If they want an incident, they've got it!" he started to get up.
"Wow, wow. Calm down. Don't play into their trap." Garonov helped the Czar take a seat once again. "They just want to play a little politics, so let's play."
Subject: SF withdrawal
We understand that unexpected technical difficulties may occur in situations like these. You obviously didn't have adequate time to prepare for total withdrawal, and perhaps you need a little training on how to use your nice boats.
Therefore, we are granting you an extra day with which to evacuate all personnel from West Corinthia. You now have EIGHT days (no more) to complete the withdrawal. Soldiers of West Corinthia will soon be moving in to the cities along the coast to restore order and assist you in your departure if necessary.
We remind you, the land still belongs to West Corinthia. We expect you to behave yourselves as guests for the next several days as our soldiers secure all airfields and cities along the coast. As such, should you fire on us during this time, it will be considered an act of war. However, I know you have better things to do than to start petty wars over territory which isn't even yours.
All ports not already under our control will be re-occupied by the West Corinthian Navy, though we shall grant you a temporary license to use them until your departure is complete. We hope to make this transition as incident-free as possible, though we are prepared for anything this time. If you try to pull another Buddenovsk, there will be hell to pay (by "hell" i mean your sovereignty).
Have a nice day.
At sea:
A lone pair of Amphibious MPP-2 patrol planes flew patrols along expected sreas of conflict, one shadowed the navy fleets, the other checked the coasts.
Roughly a day's travel away were a pair of patrol blimps, making steady progress throughout the day.
Yet these forces couldn't have come all this way alone, for as their tender they had none other than the HTS-Independance, PROHT's first aircraft carrier. It wasn't big, nor shiny, or fast. But it had everything needed if conditions became any worse.
SF Motel
...
All men went to sleep, except for 2 officers, and Igor Ranski, whom prepared himself for a short outing.
He was still dressed in the business suit he came with, and on his belt he had a cerimonial sabre - the mark of a high ranking government employee - cell phone with digital camera, and a radio with a pair of headphones. And in his pocket he had a pen, a few zip ties, a flashlight, and some gum. In a shoulder holstwer he held a Government standard Hurtian modified CCZ-75, with 2 20 round clips, and all accesories.
An order had recently been recieved by the BNS Mainstay straight from the President. The situation was rapidly escalating and steps had to be taken now to prevent this incident from blowing up.
The Mainstay was to launch three F-213 Death Angles squadrons to patrol the coast and intercept any hostile aircraft attempting to enter West Corinthia.
On her deck, 15 F-213s were lined up ready waiting to launch. Two by two they streaked away from the aircraft carrier and banked towards the shore.
Flying out over the Black Sea as part of the surveillance and communications squadron, an E-767 and a RC-135 were picking up activity over West Corinthia.
"Eagle Eye Six to Fido"
"Go ahead Six"
"Hostile aircraft breaching the exclusion zone. Please advise."
"Engage."
"Roger Fido"
"Stay in touch. Fido out."
General Lynds was on deck listening to events unfold. "They must've transported those things in at night by train or something." She thought to herself. "Oh well."
-----------------------------------------------
"Eagle Eye Six to Rex Eight Lead" The E-767 AWACS radioed to the fighter squadron.
"Rex Eight Lead copy Eagle Eye Six"
"We have approved dancing partners to the North. This is the last dance"
"Roger Eye Six. Rex Eight moving" The squadron commander acknowledged.
The twenty four grey Lu-45 Hawks immediately accelerated and climbed to the clouds in order to attack the Asgarnians as close to the zone limit as possible. Splitting into three groups, they hoped to confuse and attack the enemy before it realised what was going on.
Six aircraft were to attack high from the West while another six were to attack frontally (from the South) at equal level. The remaining twelve would flank high from the East and eliminate the withdrawing aircraft. The orders stood: do not let a single enemy aircraft return.
"Eagle Eye Six to Rex Nine"
"Rex Nine" Came the reply
"You have a Special date. Head North at max altitude. Will advise."
"Roger Eye Six. Rex Nine out."
A flight of hawks immediately moved into combat readiness. Their target would be the Asgarnian RG-129 Firefly, a brand new surveillance and recon aircraft. Taking it out would send a serious blow to the command and control capabilities of the Asgarnians.
On board the SFS Girardi...
"Two squadrons ready Sir" The flight commander reported to Admiral Doug Brent, commander of the Second Commonwealth Fleet.
"Get them in air. Nobody but the West Corinthians shall approach our ground troops."
"Yes sir. Rovers three and four beginning take-off."
Rover Three, a squadron of CF-17 fighters with extra tanks began their take off routine on board the SFS Girardi. In only a matter of minutes all twenty four fighters would be airborne, patrolling the Saint Fedskian occupied air space. Rover Four, another squadron of CF-17s, began to take off from the SFS Jesse Russel. The job of the rovers was primarily to eliminiate threats from the ground. However they were also armed for limited air-to-air combat should they need arise.
On board the SFS Schleicher...over 1200km West of West Corinthia
"Admiral Nixon Sir. Asgarnian aircraft approaching from the east."
"Take them down."
"Aye aye sir."
The squadron of Kahanistanian F-1 Masada (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/F-1_Masada) fighters already in the air were alerted to the incoming Asgarnian aircraft.
"They are likely to be armed for anti-shipping. Get another squadron up there just incase there's more of 'em that show up."
"Yes sir"
OOC: Asgarnieu: I'll forget the fact that you just arrived in West Corinthia completely unnoticed by SF. And yes, you are over 1700km South-West of West Corinthia as that is the closest possible point in which your navy could get towards West Corinthia without crossing the exclusion zone.
Re: Air space
It has come to my attention that aircraft from Asgarnieu have breached the exclusion zone as explained by the 'National Enemy Act'. It is with great regret that I must inform you that I have been ordered to engage any nation covered by the 'National Enemy Act'. I have no choice but to order the engagement of the Asgarnieu aircraft.
I can assure you that all measures possible will be taken to avoid conflict with forces of West Corinthian origin. Any pilot violating the order will be charged and will stand trial. In order to further reduce the chances of conflict during this brief period, I suggest moving aircraft belonging to West Corinthia out of the immediate area.
On board the SFS Schleicher...over 1200km South-West of West Corinthia
"Sir! Vessels and aircraft from Blaglug have breached the exclusion zone!"
"Prepare the fleet for combat. Send out a warning. Triangulate the location of what appears to be the flagship and fire two missiles at it."
"Aye sir."
"God to Angel Ear"
"Angel Ear here."
"Requesting location of Blagluggian center."
"Roger. One moment"
The RC-135 had been monitoring communications of the Blagluggian fleet for a short period of time and was locating the source of the majority of communications.
"Angel Ear to God"
"Copy"
"Location indentified. Transmitting coordinates."
The RC-135 passed on its information to one of the twenty Thunder Class cruisers as well as to an E-767 AWACS that was operating out of Kahanistan. The missiles would be guided by multiple sources, should one of the sources be rendered unavailable.
Semi-improved airstrip in the Kahanistanian desert...
"Yes sir, yes sir. Will do." Station commander Captain Carl Demmans hung up the phone. "We need two squardons to intercept hostile aircraft. Johnny? Jeffory?"
"Sir yes sir" Both young men acknowledged their commander. "Ready and willing sir"
"Good. Get up there and relieved Justin. His flight is due back shortly."
"Aye sir"
The two squadron commanders raced back to their quarters, readied the pilots and scrambled to the aircraft. Forty-eight Lu-45 Hawks would be taking off and heading to intercept the incoming Blagluggians.
"You Know frank," Erika said to her Minister of Defense, "I Think it's time we help out our West Corinthian Allies, I want you to get a force together and get humanitarian supplies moving in, specially in the areas the Fedskians are leaving."
"I Totally agree, madam, I'll get an airlift squadron to move in immediate humanitarian supplies such as food and medicine and water treatment equipment." Frank responded, " But I do suggest we send an armed air escort and some IFR aircraft, and some AWACS." He continued, " I don't trust the fedskians, so also some Hell Jumpers, specifically an MP battalion to control the distribution of supplies and to secure an airport, allowing us then to send in Seabees and get a port running so we can get even more supplies on the ground." He finished, and waited for an answer
Erika thought for a moment, "Sounds good, but have the escorts and all aircraft have their VFR transponders on, so people know It's an Illiorian flight. I'll get a message out, so all concerned parties in the area know it's humanitarian, and has no responsibility other than to deliver it's supplies, and it will defend itself if fired upon." She finished, "Get it going."
"Yes M'lady." Frank said as he wandered off to get the ball rolling.
As of right now, a humanitarian mission is being put together to help the citizens of West Corinthia, specially in the Southwestern Sector. As such, A deployment of Illiorian Airlift aircraft and an armed air escort will bring humanitarian supplies to the nearest airbase. A Battalion of MPs are being deloyed also to regulate the distribution. The Flight will have their VFR Transponders on at all times, so that all parties know this is the Illiorian humanitarian mission. The full list of aircraft will be sent soon, but it will include Transport, Cargo, Fighter, AWACs, Air-to Air Refueler, and Mothership aircraft. This Flight has been instructed to defend itself if necessary, but it's only mission is to bring aid to those in need. Any firing of weapons at the Flight will be an act of war.
Subject: Passage to the Black Sea
Realizing that the situation is volatile, we of the Armed Republic still wish to aid our ally of West Corithia, free from any GASN ties, in this time of need. We would like to move a carrier battle group and two amphibious assault groups into the black sea to ensure that any transitions happen peacefully. We cannot stress enough that this is not to commence hostilities; I am told by the Arch Arsonist himself that the ships will contain only nominal combat personnel, but combat engineers, medical units, and associated support staff. While we are not ready to move through the straights at this point in time, we can in four days time. Because time is of the essence, we cannot wait for authorization if it is delayed, but know that in good faith, we are not on a mission of war. While we feel we could take the straits by force, we also feel that would be counterproductive, and fail to be in anyone's best interests.
I am growing troubled by the possibility of another world war over such a minor issue. With your permission, I would like to move the 7th Carrier Battle Group and the 2nd and 5th Amphibious Assault Groups off the shore of your current occupation zones in West Corinthia. I can assure you that this is a mission of peace; aside from a nominal combat force, the vast majority of manpower sent would be combat engineers, medical crews, and logistics and associated support units. Furthermore, we would be willing to foot some reparations payments to the families of the soldiers that were killed during the fiasco of Buddenovsk, if only to expedite peace proceedings. I advise you take this small force into consideration, as they can save you much time and energy in evacuating West Corinthia. Though we have no quarrel with you, we will be forced to commence extremely limited military operations in West Corinthia to force your men out if asked.
Control: "We are reading hosile aircraft within your vicinity."
Alpha-7: "Action?"
Alpha-7: "Roger. Doesn't the RG-129 have jamming capabilities?"
Control: "Roger. Should the hostile aircraft fire, the missiles will likely be jammed."
Alpha-7: "Copy. En route. Our flight squadron is meeting up with the aircraft in question."
Control: "Procede, Over."
The 30 F-15's immediately change course. They proceded to reach the altitude that the RG-129 is at. The F-35's were very close as well. The 15 F-35's moved up and met up with the F-15's. Within minutes they spotted the fighters scrambled by Saint Fedski. The ANS Guarantee launched 10 EA-6B Prowler aircraft to jam Saint Fedski's aircraft, if nessicary. The fighters were within 5 miles of the suspect aircraft. The pilots were instructed to fire if any hostile actions were taken.
RG-129 Transmission
Asgarnian Fighters: "Flight 166, do you read? Urgent Message."
Flight 166: "Aye. Message?"
Asgarnian Fighters: "Begin to set up a jam on the frequencies of the 24 suspect aircraft. They are regarded as hostile. We are within 5 miles of the suspect aircraft. Should they fire, jam the missiles, and we'll take out the suspect aircraft. Roger?"
Flight 166: "Roger. We'll set up a jam and activate it when nessicary. Over."
Asgarnian Fighters: "Standing by."
The RG-129 crew began to type in the information into the system's computers. Should they fire, "Enter" would be pressed on the keyboard, and the system would jam the Saint Fedski fighter's missiles, and if nessicary, disable the aircraft's radar and communications systems. That is when the Asgarnian fighters would attack.
Ok. You crossed the line. Your F-35s are now officially non-existant. You best be willing to take realistic losses.
"Rex Eight Lead ready to do a hot salsa."
"Roger Rex Eight Lead. Commence dancing."
The Hawks began their strike.
"Lead, target locked." A pilot reported he had a missile lock on target.
"Dance" Rex Eight Lead gave the permission to engage.
The twenty four aircraft bolted across the sky after their twenty four missiles.
Not too far behind the Hawks were the mainstay of the Saint Fedskian air force, the CF-17. They would help engage the F-15s while the Hawks repositioned. The twenty four CF-17s were to slow down and wait until the Hawks began their first pass, hoping to catch the Asgarnians off guard.
Re: Re: Air space
I'm sure you'd like nothing more than for us to roll over and allow you to roam our airspace at will. West Corinthian air patrols will be doubled, but will keep a minimum safe distance from any engagement. We are also restricting the amount of airspace we allow you to use without penalty. Saint Fedskian planes may not enter airspace over territory held by the West Corinthian army. As you well know, this will be shrinking by the day.
Another point I'd like to make is this, you are attacking Asgarnieu because they broke your rules. This reminds me of another time, not too long ago, when we gave a nation 7 days to leave, and they instead demanded 8. Should we attack that nation because they broke our rules? I suggest you take one act of good faith for another. I'm not going to threaten or make insidious demands anymore, break off your attack, and let peace happen.
Re: Force movement into your nation
You aid would be most welcomed. We are only beginning to move back into the area formerly held by Saint Fedski. As it is the first time they will be back under West Corinthian rule since the rebellion, we don't know fully what to expect. Your aid will be the first step to a long recovery. The second step will be rooting out political dissenters and possibly Saint Fedskian spies, and the final step will be laying down Corinthian law, by force if necessary. As much as we'd like to welcome these Corinthians back into the population with open arms, it is important that we do so in the safest manner possible.
Above the Saint Fedskian-held zone
A patrol of twelve WC-Gripens scrambled into the air. Officially, their mission was to patrol the skies. Unofficially, they were going to spectate the upcoming engagement and keep it from getting out of hand. The definition of 'out-of-hand' would be left to the squadron-leader's discretion.
Saint Fedskian-held territory/West Corinthian-held border
The first group of armor rolled past the unofficial boundary marking Saint Fedskian-held territory versus West Corinthian. All along this border, armored divisions were rolling into the outlying cities. The armor was leading in case of an unprovoked attack, with infantry coming up the rear (aboard trucks) to secure each city.
From what they could observe, the Saint Fedskian withdrawal was proceeding as expected. No conflict as of yet.
To preserve the fragile peace that is left in this rapidly destablizing situation, I am urging all allies to obey Saint Fedski wishes as they continue to withdraw. Furthermore, the Republic advises West Corinthia to allow Saint Fedski to withdraw in peace.
Additionally, the BAF is now going to activly escort unauthorized aircraft away from the wthdrawl zone. Airspace over this area is restricted to allow Saint Fedski swift and unthreatend withdrawl. I would also like to ask Saint Fedski to allow Blaglug to take over enforcement of the restricted airspace and also hope that Saint Fedski will not attempt to counter peaceful Blaglugian operations. Allies are to be warned that attempted attack on Saint Fedski will not sit well with the Republic.
This situation has gotten to out of control and it is time we correct the mistakes. For the saftey of all those involved.
Air Marshall Langley walked into the meeting room. He wasn't expecting the Supreme Emepror himself to be at the meeting, but when he walked in and saw George sitting at the head of the meeting table, he knew something was going down. Something big. He walked over and sat down near the opposite end of the table ,far enough away from the Supreme Emperor that he wouldn't be blamed for anything wrong. He noticed that whoever sits closest to the Supreme Emepror would be blamed for anything that would go wrong.
George: "Alright. Now i want to know something here. Why was my executive order to dispatch Ten Pelican's to West Corinthia suddenly stopped without my concent?"
He looked at Langley as he said this. Langley knew that he was in trouble and he cleared his throat and looked at the Supreme Emperor.
Langley: "Sir. I thought that the order came from your Cabinet. Had i known that you..."
George: "Shut the fuck up now." He glared at Langley with a look of someone that would kill a man in a second if he had the chance. "I want that order carried out fucking right now. No matter what. The marines that are ordered on this assignment are waiting on the tarmac for the craft. now i want this fucking done right now. Understood Air Marshal?"
Langley: "Yes, Sir."
George then got up and walked out of the room. Before he walked fully out he gave the Air Marshal another extremely nasty look.
This is a formal note informing you of the Imperium's intention to send naval forces to the Black Sea. We send this note ahead of such a deployment because it is the understanding of Her Imperial Majesty that the naval forces of your nation are blockading the approaches to the Black Sea. Her Imperial Majesty understands and respects the reasons your government has ordered this and pledges that the Imperium wishes Wilhelmsborough no harm.
However, I am obligated to inform you that, despite the wish for mutual cooperation, the Imperium strongly believes in both the freedom of the seas and the security of her allies and has a policy of forceful action when either, or in this case, both are threatened. As such, it is my solemn duty to inform you that should your government choose not to cooperate the Empress will order such forces deployed to see the waterways leading to the Black Sea are opened and stay opened so that the Imperium may conduct operations as she sees fit. Such is not our desire, far from it, but desire and duty all too rarely mix.
I sincerely hope you and your government realize the wisdom in cooperation with the Imperium. Otherwise, the consequences will likely be unneeded bloodshed and a conflit that is not in your nations advantage or interest.
I really don't understand what the trouble is all about. We here in the government are well aware that Czar Aleksei wants the Saint Fedskians out in seven days. And the Saint Fedskians are saying that they will withdraw from West Corinthia, but it will take them eight days.
Nobody's perfect. They brought a lot of stuff into the country in the first place. Do you really expect a government to be able be able to move so much ordinance so quickly?
In any case however, something is happening. As I write this, the Saint Fedskians are packing up their gear, dismantling their tents, and shipping men and equipment towards the coast to be placed upon ships bound for home. That is what our government believes is happening, and we have no reason to believe otherwise.
The way our government sees it, West Corinthia gave the Saint Fedskians a timetable when they wanted them to leave. The Saint Fedskians accepted West Corinthia's desire to see them gone, but gave a timetable which was more realistic to their logistical situation.
However, if Saint Fedski takes more than it's promised eight days to withdraw, then we may be more open to allowing yours and other naval forces to enter the Black Sea through the Bosporus Strait and deal with the Saint Fedskians any way you wish.
In the eyes of our government, when Saint Fedski stated their eight-day timetable, they made a promise to leave within that time. If they cannot do this, then that means they broke their promise. Therefore, retaliation will be understandable.
Until then, before the deadlines approach, my government will contact General Larissa Lynds and ask for a progress report. I will ask for how many troops, arms, and equipment have already been pulled out, as well as a list of towns being ceeded back to the West Corinthians.
If we are able to get this information, I will make sure that you get it.
On the tarmac, the ten Pelicans began to pull out of the hangers that littered the airfield. There were 10 Pelicans in total. Each would carry 5 Marines and some crates full of amunition and other supplies that the Marines would need during their stay in West Corinthia. The Marines stood there waiting for the Pelicans to pull up to them. As they waited, several WH-01 'Street' Warthog's and WH-03 'Troop Transport' Warthogs pulled through the main gate of the complex. These Warthogs would be used to move and protect the marines on their mission. There were 3 of the WH-03's and 4 of the WH-01's.
The Pelicans then pulled up right next to the marines and they started to load up the aircraft. They were making sure that the crates of supplies would be equally divided between the ten Pelicans to ensure that there was enough room for the Marines. They then prepared to attached the Warthogs to the bottom of seven of the Pelicans and climbed aboard the aircraft. The aircraft then took off and lowered themselves down as ground crews attached the hooks that would hold the Warthogs onto the aircraft for the journey to West Corinthia. After the ground crews made sure that the vehicles were attached, one ground crewmen waved with glow wands for the aircraft to take off and head out.
The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski issued a public announcement in which The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu was warned not to violate the exclusion zone. It can now be proven that the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski will not tolerate anymore violations.
The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu has seen the capabilities of The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski and should recognize the limitations of its own capabilities.
Should The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu violate the exclusion zone once again, the same result can be expected. Should The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu withdraw its forces from the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia, The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski may be more inclined to tolerate military movements from The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu.
This is another warning issued by The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski.
The Field Marshall is more than likely aware of the victorious air battle which was fought by the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski over The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu. While holding no grudges against the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia and its respective military, the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski request that the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia publically denounce the presence of the United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu while privately requesting its withdrawal from the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia in light of recent threats to the peace as issued by President Justin A. The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski will begin a campaign to prevent the United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu from waging war near the already war-torn Czarist Republic of West Corinthia.
Re: West Corinthian movement
The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski is a little uneasy about the quick and aggressive way in which the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia is reclaiming the small tracts of land left by the receding front line of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski.
The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski cannot help but wonder what would happen if larger, more advantageous tracts were left to be filled by the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia. Would the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia simply occupy the area quickly or would the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia use the unoccupied area as a way in which to mobilize and begin a massive armoured thrust against the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski?
The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski does not want to find out the answer. It is requested that The Conspiracy of Communist Revolution deploy its forces so as to act as a buffer between the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski and the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia.
"Mister Ranksi, Mister Ranski sir" The lieutenant bellowed as he pounded on the door with both fists "hostilities have broken out sir!"
"Lieutenant, just open the door." One of the other guards advised.
"Was just being polite to our guests."
"Well I think by pounding and screaming on the door you kind of...." The guard's voice trailed off as the Lieutenant glared at him. "Sorry Sir."
Opening the door, the lieutenant was surprised to see Mr. Ranksi still awake.
"Excuse me sir, but hostilities have broken out, leaving us only two options." The lieutenant paused for a bit to allow the statment to sink in.
---------------------------------------------
Over Northern West Corinthia...
After losing two of their own to the Asgarnian fighters, the victorious Lu-45 Hawks were slowly making their way back to airfields in Poti and Batumi.
"Rex Eight Lead returning to base." The squadron commander radioed to command.
"Roger Rex Eight Lead. Rex Nine Alpha, clear to return" Command ordered the other returning aircraft.
"Roger Eagle Eye Six. Returning to base." Nine Alpha replied.
The thirty-four Hawks dropped to barely one hundred meters above the ground. The pilots would be on the look out for any strange formations behind or among the West Corinthian lines.
Zugdidi...
The airfield in Zugdidi buzzed with activity as CF-17s were armed and fueled for combat. In case of any offensive, Zugdidi would be among the first bases to be targetted. Fairly isolated and on the front lines, Zugdidi would be difficult to withdraw from. The CF-17s would provide immediate air support to the Thirty-fifth Commonwealth Armoured Division and elements of the eighteenth Commonwealth Infantry Division which had taken defensive position. No sign of withdrawl was present in this garrison.
Senaki...
Senaki was a strategically valuable place, not only was it located on a major road, a major railway and close to a major airfield, it was know the Eastern most occupied place in the Saint Fedskian zone. The Thirty-fourth Commonwealth Armoured Division and elements of the Eighteenth Commonwealth Infantry Division had moved west from Samtredi and Abasha and were now occupying semi-prepared defensive positions.
Lanchkhuti...
Two complete airborne divisions occupied this small mountain village. Aside from being the exact center of the Saint Fedskian occupied zone and its heights dominating the farms and fields to the North, Lanchkhuti provided no strategic or tactical value. However, if more artillery could be moved to the city, any advance through the region to the north by the West Corinthians or their allies could be brought under direct fire from the mountains and hills.
Ozurgeti, Kobuleti, Supsa (The Shielded Triangle)…
The Twenty-fifth Commonwealth Division was left in control of a large area. Stretching from Ozurgeti in the east, Kobuleti in the southwest and Supsa in the northwest, the zone was, on paper, the weakest part of the line. However, being surrounded by fairly movement-unfriendly terrain, the area was classified as low risk. Any attempt on the region would require mass movements through kilometers of densely forested mountains and dozens upon dozens of peaks and ridges. Quite difficult terrain for the mass movement of an army indeed.
Batumi…
Way down south in Batumi, the two marine divisions kept the immediate area maintained. Providing assistance to the local police and base security for the large air base that was being improved, the marines also made patrols to various mountain outposts. Like the zone immediately to the north, an attack by West Corinthian friendly forces was highly unlikely due to those same mountains
Over each zone and close one hundred kilometers into West Corinthia, regular patrols of single squadrons (24 aircraft) and double squadrons kept the air space defended. Various airfields throughout the occupied region had flights (12 aircraft) ready for the ground support role should the West Corinthians decide to attack. At any given time, four airborne surveillance platforms were in the sky monitoring everything from communications, to weather, to movements and plotting geographic data. RC-135 Rivet Joints would monitor, intercept and locate enemy communications while E-2C Hawkeyes and E-767 AWACS kept an eye on movements and air traffic across the region. These aircraft are instrumental in supplementing ground and shipped based radar and their mission to monitor the exclusion zones.
Poti and north…
The Nineteenth Commonwealth Division had been tasked with controlling Ochamchira prior to the movement order. Realizing that keeping control of Ochamchira would require resources that would be better used to add depth elsewhere, General Lynds decided to return Ochamchira and Gali to West Corinthia control. The Nineteenth was moved to secure and protect the northern flank of the beachhead. Marking the frontline was the hamlet of Pirveli-Otobaja while the port and larger city of Poti was to be the rear of the Nineteenth’s postion and the final city to be released from Saint Fedskian occupation.
Mass Movement…
Up until the Asgarnian violation, the movement from West Corinthia was going just as planned. The first stage of the movement involved pulling the command and control units from the mainland. Supplies, save the combat essentials (fuel, food, ammo) were then flown and shipped back to the awaiting cargo vessels. Samtredia, having been briefly occupied by Saint Fedskian forces, was the second town to be ceded back to West Corinthian control. Following Samtredia were Vani, Ochamchira and Gali
The violations and threats made by Asgarnieu had forced a delay on the movement of the Saint Fedskian units. Would Asgarnieu make another violation? If they did, would it be in force? Would it be an actual attack? Would they be working with an ally? The Saint Fedskian leadership was quite concerned. Instead of pulling out of Zugdidi as had been planned, quick defensive structures and obstacles were created and a ‘Saint Fedskian Frontline Buffer’ was beginning to take shape. A ‘Saint Fedskian Frontline Buffer’ was a strategy still kept secret. The first time it was put into use, a couple squads was able to disrupt and force the complete retreat of tens of thousands of Amestian soldiers and hundreds of armoured vehicles.
Re: Deployment
Having already declared war on the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski, the Dark Empire of Shazbotdom's announcement to deploy marines into a transition zone can be seen as the opening act of said war.
The Commonwealth Armed Forces in West Corinthia have been given permission to actively discourage and prevent the deployment of hostile forces where said hostile forces would pose a threat to the safety, security and integrity of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski's best interests.
It is with extreme caution that the Dark Empire of Shazbotdom should deploy combat forces near those of the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski.
Official Statement by the Prime Minister of the United Sovereign Nations of Southeast Asia, Yao Yang Nelson Neo
http://www.geonames.de/flag-asean.gif
Greetings Esteemed Delegations of All Parties Concerned,
The Saint Fedskian Commonwealth, a long-time old friend of the United Sovereign Nations of Southeast Asia (but we do not hold an alliance with one another), has gotten into yet another peacekeeping trip and has yet again been accused of imperialism thanks to a deadline set by the Government of the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia.
However, we feel that the Saint Fedskian Government has been falsely accused of imperialism all thanks to the fact that people have misinterpreted intentions in public statements regarding the Saint Fedskian Government. Peacekeeping, especially in states with internal crisis and turmoil, and in general, is never an easy task.
We know this thanks to communiqués from our long-time friends in the Saharistan War Coalition, especially with regards to the Democratic Imperium of Halberdgardia. Nobody is perfect, and ideas and proposals and time-schemes are only perfect on paper. In practice, it often turns out different. The Commonwealth Armed Forces have a rather large deployment in the Czarist Republic, and with regards to a lack of foresight, withdrawal of Commonwealth Armed Forces from the Czarist Republic have taken longer than expected.
As a result, the Czarist Republic has gotten angered at Saint Fedskian actions, and has summoned its allies in the Global Alliance of Sovereign Nations to make the Commonwealth comply with its withdrawal period of time faster. Unfortunately, it seems that yet another misinterpretation of intent has occurred and the Commonwealth seems to have taken it as threatening an Act of War, returning the favor by summoning its allies in the Questerian Commonwealth.
In many cases, such as this one, often nobody has the single blame but various parties do. One cannot blame the Commonwealth Armed Forces for not withdrawing within the time period originally anticipated thanks to various unforeseen circumstances. One cannot blame the Czarist Republic and its allies for being suspicious of Saint Fedskian intent. One cannot blame Saint Fedski for being cautious of hostile forces.
But this vicious cycle must be stopped. This series of events in West Corinthia must not be allowed to degenerate into violence.
As the Prime Minister of the Union, I am speaking on the behalf of my people of the United Sovereign Nations of Southeast Asia: we only desire a peaceful resolution to all this saber-rattling going on and about, and hope that diplomacy prevails and unnecessary bloodshed can be stopped.
Should the Armed Forces of Saint Fedski or any other allies of the Commonwealth within the area be attacked by belligerent parties within the area, then Southeast Asia shall have no choice but to side with the Saint Fedskian Commonwealth and its allies.
I only wish for the best, but I am prepared for the worst should unfortunately occur.
Yours Sincerely,
His Right Honorable Prime-Executive Leadership
At his Palace in Yalta Prince William had summoned his Chief Military Leaders to his office. There was General of the Army Nicoli Trotski, General of the Air Force Salazar T. Sherman, and Admiral of the Navy Vittorio Augustine.
"Gentlemen," he began. "As you are already well aware, the West Corinthia/Saint Fedski situation is beginning to spiral out of control. West Corinthia wants its lands back, but Saint Fedski is too hampered by their own bureaucracy to get their asses out of the country."
The Prince looked at his men, his face etched with worry. "Guys, I think that this could turn into a war. There's too much emotion here, too many competing egos."
General Trotski crossed his arms. "Yes, too many egos indeed. It's almost as if they want to get into a fight."
The Prince nodded. "Exactly. That's what I think. And I'm worried that our country will get drawn into this conflict."
General Sherman frowned. "Which side would we ally with, Your Majesty? Fedski or Corinthia?"
The Prince looked at the General like he had said something stupid. "We'd fight alongside West Corinthia of course! The nation of Saint Fedski is too far away to be of any importance to us in terms of allience. And quite frankly, I'm sick of how they attempt to direct things, like how the peacekeepers should act, or where foreign militaries shouldn't go."
"Yes, that's right!" agreed Admiral Augustine. "Such stupendous nerve they have, a distant nation, telling the forces of this region how to act!"
"It's for that reason why this situation may degenerate into war!" said the Prince with finality. "If this happens, I want to be absolutely prepared for it."
Prince William looked at his men. "Mobilize the military. I want Armada One, Air Armada One, and Theater One ready for deployment."
The three Senior Officers looked at the Prince in shock.
"Your Majesty!" said Admiral Augustine. "That's a significant number of forces!"
"I'm not done yet, Admiral." Prince William turned to him. "Contact our Fleets spread out around the world. Put them on full alert and tell the Fleet Admirals to prepare for possible combat operations."
"Y-yes Your Majesty!" the Admiral stood up, bowed and left.
The Prince turned to General Sherman. "In addition with your Air Armada One, I also want all twenty air fleets mobilized for action."
Prince William went into specifics. "I want Air Fleets One through Five placed in strategic locations across the Crimean Peninsula. Don't forget to save one for Yalta.
"Air Fleets Six through Fourteen will join up with Air Armada One and provide support should the need arise to enter the Saint Fedski-held areas of West Corinthia. They have the most experience in that region.
"Finally, the remaining Air Fleets Fifteen through Twenty will be deployed to our overseas territories. Send Air Fleets 15, 16, and 17 to the Azores. Air Fleets 18, 19, and 20 will go to New Caledonia."
The General stood up straight and saluted the Prince. "It will be done, sir." He turned and walked out the door.
Finally, at that was left was General Trotski. William turned to him. "Trotski, I want Field Marshal Dane Whitman's 1st Army Group mobilized to protect the homeland."
"Done, Your Majesty. But did I hear you say that you wanted me to mobilize Theater One?"
The Prince nodded gravely. "Yes, General. I feel that such a sizable force would be needed to dislodge the Saint Fedskians from West Corinthian lands should this conflict escalate into full-scale war."
The General nodded. "Very well then. I'll make sure to order the overseas forces under my command to assume a high state of readiness."
The General stood up and walked out the door, without even bothering to bow or salute. The Prince rolled his eyes. Trotski could be brilliant (when he was sober), but he could also be quite rude and unprofessional.
Oh well, thought the Prince. No use complaining about it.
The Prince turned in his chair and looked out onto the busy streets of Yalta. He watched as the common people that he was once a part of, went about their daily lives. Prince William sighed as he thought about how they would recieve the news of mobilization.
--------------
Two hours later, the three branches of the military were working at full power to call up the forces and equipment necessary. Military bases were bustling with activity as soldiers began to arrive and await their deployment.
In the Azores, the 3rd Fleet under the command of Fleet Admiral Colm McGreevy was placed on high alert, patrols were doubled, and submarines patroled the islands with greater vigilance.
In New Caledonia, the 2nd Fleet under the command of Fleet Admiral Jacob Nields ordered his submarines to patrol the length of the islands and sent diving patrols to guard his ships. Su-47 Golden Eagles and S-3 Vikings were launched to patrol the Loyalty, Belep, and Huon Islands.
And from the deck of Admiral McCloud's ship, the Bathory, three EB-180 Stargazers took off and climbed to a height of 100,000 feet. Their job was to look out for anything that might be approaching the New Caledonian territories.
-----------------
Three hours after mobilization began, Minister of Foreign Relations Geddy Lee called Prince William on his office phone.
"Good evening, Ambassador Lee." greeted Prince William. "Have you noticed the large scale mobilization going on?"
"Yes I have, Your Majesty. And I'm quite sure that other nations, namely Saint Fedski, will take notice as well. If they contact us asking what is going on, what should I say?"
A good question, throught the Prince. He was quiet as he thought of a response.
"Your Majesty?" asked Ambassador Lee.
Finally, the Prince had an answer.
"If the Saint Fedskians ask what's going on, just say that we are...'worried.'"
"But your Minister of Foriegn Affairs promised shelter, room and board for the night, I will take this as a warning that you are washing your hands clean of our safety. We shall leave in the morning, no sooner, no later."
"And if there is any notion in that head of 'taking me in' or anything of the sort, you'd best stop while you and the rest of your platoon still have heads on their shoulders. Now begone!"
And Igor Ranski slammed the door on the two guards.
The knocking had woken the others, and the 2 active gaurds were already flanking the inside (blindspot) of the door, pistols drawn, stock and barrel extensions added, and set to full auto, they might as well have been carrying assualt rifles...
"So what are we going to do about the fighters and RG-129?" asked a Chief.
"Not a damn thing. We can replace them for next to nothing. It was a minimal loss." replied General Marshall.
"So, what's next?" inquired the Chief.
"We'll establish one of our AS-9 Satellites and monitor the area from where they can't get us. I want thermal images of the Saint Fedski controlled territory within the next 2 hours. Turn the AS-9 to stealth mode. That way they can't lock on to in and fire Anti-Satellite missiles. Then, take thermals of West Corinthia's capital city and the crash site of the RG-129. The Conspiracy began to move forward from its positions with in the Saint Fedskian lines. Lurching forward to the tunes of clanking tracks and grumbling engines, the 2nd Revolutionary Army Group began its peaceful operation.
Two hours later the majority of the troops arrived at their destinations. 45,000 troops and 3000 tanks and 300 artillery pieces arrived in Senaki. They would take over the already prepared positions of Saint Fedski and allow them to withdraw easily. 25,000 troops and 1500 tanks took up positions on the ridge east of Zugdidi while 15,000 soldiers and 1000 tanks begun the move from the Saint Fedskian base in Poti to Perveli-Otobaja.
So far, 110,000 soldiers (of the 360,000) and 7000 tanks (of the 18,000) had been put ashore. 25,000 soldiers and 1500 tanks would be kept in reserve should they be urgently needed.
Re: "Warning"
It seems the military leadership of the United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu is not only incompetent and illiterate. The Commonwealth of Saint Fedski has extended a five hundred kilometer exclusion zone around the occupied portion of West Corinthia. The United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu has violated this once and was promptly dealt with. Should the be another violation, the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski will respond, again.
"Eagle Eye Six to Fido"
"Copy Eagle Eye Six"
"Dancing partner located."
"Roger. Copy Rex Ten Lead"
"Rex Ten Lead copies."
"Dancing partner located."
"Roger Fido. Rex Ten Lead out."
Twenty-four CF-17s bolted towards the Asgarnian aircraft.
"Fido, permission to begin dance?"
"Permission granted Rex Ten Lead."
The CF-17s pounced, two missiles sped from the formation towards the solitary Asgarnian aircraft. Approaching from high and low, from side to side, pairs of aircraft sped and danced across the sky. The first pair had already launched their missiles, the second pair would wait until the result was clear before they attacked.
----------------------------
"Admiral Bradley" Larissa bellowed.
"Yes ma'am"
"Take out that god damned airfield."
"Ma'am, its West Corinthian."
"I know Mike, take it out anyways. Get some aircraft over it and attack any Asgarnian units that are there."
"Yes ma'am" Admiral Bradley bolted to his command room. "This is Admiral Bradley, three strikes on that bloody airfield. Thank you."
The Admiral had just ordered three cruise missile strikes on the airfield the Asgarnians were using. The launches would happen two minutes apart and would take roughly twenty minutes to reach the airfield.
"Ear to Fido"
"Go ahead Ear"
"Communications center located. Coordinates being sent."
"Roger Ear"
"Ear out."
"Yes ma'am. Strike on the comm center." Admiral Bradley spoke first.
"Good." Larissa replied with a slight smile.
"Commander Brinkley, two strikes on target A34E." Admiral ordered the submariner.
"Yes sir, launching"
Two cruise missiles took off from the Loch Ness Class submarine at the same time. Estimated time of arrival: twenty minutes.
Squadrons of CF-17s equipped for ground attack were beginning to take off. It was expected that the West Corinthians would launch an immediate attack on the Saint Fedskian position. The Commonwealth would not be caught with their pants down. Lu-45 Hawks and CF-17s would keep the air under Commonwealth control should a retalitory attack occur.
On the ground, the troops were ordered to stop their movement to the coast and reinforce their rear guard positions. The 'buffer' was complete and waiting for a West Corinthian attack. All along the line, artillery batteries were scrambling to prepare for extended combat, infantry increased patrols and tanks took up positions. Behind the lines, reserves were preparing secondary positions and waiting until they were called into the fighting. Radio silence was now strictly imposed and only to be broken for emergencies.
OOC: Hey Saint Fedski!! My planes were over 1,000 Km from the exclusion zone!! WTF!!?? Just telling you. If you want to shoot 'em down, you're violating WC airspace. Read it:
Greetings. We do not intend to enter Saint Fedski's Airspace. Our YAL-1ABL will remain perfectly within West Corinthian airspace to defend the AS-9. Should any Blaglugain aircraft attack an Asgarnian aircraft, it will be destroyed. Take note of the transmission wired to Saint Fedski. We do not wish to engage any aircraft, and we do not want ours engaged. In addition, due to Saint Fedski's press release informing the world of your "assistance" to them, we regard your warning as an empty threat. We will not obey Blaglugain commands, only Saint Fedskian. Thank you.
We were neatly within West Corinthian airspace. Either delete the posts, or it's gonna be bad for YOU and ME. Thanks.
As stated in the past, we have officially withdrew that message. We have enclosed a copy of the message that we sent that officially widraws that accusation and not-well-thought-out declaraton on my behalf. Therefore the Declaration of War is null and void. Now, these forces are not the bulk of the Shazbotdom Marine Corps so you don't have to worry about a full scale operation. The only way that this will become a full scale operation is if those nations that are associated with the alliance you have called in, or your own nation, attack these forces that i have dispatched.
We don't want this to become a frull scale conflict that will involve our nation. We only wish for peace and will help our allies to maintain peace within their nations. The message that I talked about before is attached below.
"Sir, Madam Hay did indeed promise shelter for the night." The lieutenant told Mr. Ranski. "However, you are currently in the Capital, which is a prime target for any attack."
The door slammed in his face.
"You jackass" He shouted. "You can either leave now under full escort or leave when you are allowed to leave. Those were your options, but you just picked the latter. Have a good night sir"
The lieutenant turned and walked to the end of the hall. "If they cause any trouble, you know how to deal with them."
Sarnia
Hotel, Morning
The night passed with no further incedent, Ranski slept soundly, but he wasn't at all pleased with how the delegation went.
In the bathroom, which was promptly debugged by his men, was a radio reciever picking up signals from the pen-microphone he had planted in the air ducts earlier - or rather helped place, his custom pen given to him shortly after slamming the door on the two gaurds. As it all happened, the 'thunk' everybody heard was a microphone and wireless transmitter, one of his men, covered in the massive dogpile, managed to pick up the pen and drop the microphone into the ventlation system.
And although People's Republic Of Hurtful Thoughts wasn't involved in the actual war now going on, it was mostly concerned with satisfying everybody's recent bout of bloodlust, with a minimum of bloodshed.
Sabres where cleaned and hined, guns were double checked, cleaned, and loaded, then stripped down again for concealment, silencers on.
Then the phone rang:
"Hello?"
"..."
"You've been scrubbed, mission aborted until further notice, GASN orders"
"I don't work for the GASN, even you know that..."
.
.
"..."
"But you are over there to keep the conflict from escalating, and your mission would only make things worse. Do you have any good audio?"
"Fine, but we may have a little bit of trouble getting out, have a MADCAP on standy, we're going to leave hot and heavy 1 passenger."
He hung up.
"Eh, Hannibal, you feel like going flying today?"
"Why? You heard what they said..."
"Forget the escort, we've got our own, you're flying though"
He waited for the concept to sink into Hannibal's unbelievably warped brain, getting pumped on mind altering toxins a few too many times does that, making him very open to suggestion.
OOC:
SF: didn't you run a background check on these guys yet? what you might find could be disturbing:
such as the fact that Hannibal has been legally proclaimed "dead" by the government of PROHT and isn't on the FBIA roster. Also the fact that "Igor Ranski" has been equaly "dead", for the past six months...
Even the briefest forum search would have revealed that much.
Hannibal has been "dead" for 10 years, and is a wanted, mass murdering, doctor
ooc: they were ordered under lockdown for a reason. They will have fun trying to escape though seeing as there are guards pretty much everywhere surrounding the hotel. You picked the worst time to do this.
The darkness outside was slowly giving way to the start of a brand new day. In a couple hours, the hotel guards would be changed and fresh faces would take over the lockdown orders.
The six guards near the room professionally waited in silence as members of the Intelligence Bureau continued to listen in on the room from the IB Headquarters.
"They sound as though they are getting ready for something."
"Leaving hot and heavy.." One of the men pondered aloud. "Well they have big guns and there have been some suspicious conversations. Generally when talking about guns and weapons, 'hot' means under fire. So if they leave hot, they plan on being in a shootout."
"So that leaves heavy one passenger" Another chipped in. "dead people are heavy?"
"so are unconcious people and stunned people."
"Or heavy as in one more person. I think they are going to snatch someone."
"But who?"
The guards couldn't figure out who would be the target.
ON BOARD THE ANS GANADO...
The Submarine's electronic target board lighted up.
"Commander, we have a positive lock on Saint Fedski's encampments in the following sectors: Zugdidi, Senaki, Lanchkhuti, The Shielded Triangle, Batumi, and Poti. The SLBM-1557's are ready for launch. Should we fire?"
"No. Transmit the lock numbers to the ANS Guidance with the Shazbot fleet. They took out our aircraft, we take out their guns. Before you send, order all troops out of West Corinthia. Then transmit, and give the order to fire."
"Yes, Sir!"
An urgent message was sent out to the Asgarnian Special Forces troops on the ground. The message read:
"Get out of WC. Operations underway that may cause retaliation towards ASF troops. Repeat: Get out of WC. You have 20 minutes."
The 2 platoons of Asgarnian Special Forces immediately boarded their Fast Attack Transport Units and headed for the shore, where an LCAC would retrieve them. They were gone in 20 minutes.
ON BOARD THE ANS GUIDANCE...
"Sir, we have commands from the ANS Ganado to target the following coordinates on Grid 3-H: 33.1008L, 33.1009L, 33.1010L, 34.1001G, 34.1002V, and 35.901R."
"Affirmatave. Enter the coordinates."
"Yes, Sir."
The coordinates were entered into the database. As each set was entered, a dot on a topographic map appeared, indicating a target.
"Sir, coordinates are in the database."
"Good, inform the ANS Ganado. Request our instructions."
"Yes, Sir."
The ANS Ganado was contacted. The order was surprising:
"Fire 1 SLCM-1557 at each target. Load the SLCM-1557's with H-95 Anti-Structure Air-Burst warheads. Lock the TerTech Guidance system to the top frequency."
H-95 Anti-Structure Air-Burst warheads are the most powerful warheads that the SLCM-1557 carries. It is a massive warhead that creates a huge pressure wave that was capable of totaly destroying 3-5 story buildings. They are also useful for taking out artillery. The pressure waves and fragments rip throught the guns, disabling them permanently. The warheads came standard with fragmentation coils, that send millions of white-hot fragments out from the detonation point.
"Top frequency" was the special frequency that SLCM-1557 missiles used that were sent to a satellite, and beamed back to the missile itself. They were not able to be jammed, or substituted by any other frequency. The hit rate was at a flat 100%. Once they were fired, there was no turning back.
"It's do-or-die time. Lock, and set the frequency."
"Aye, Aye."
The missile pods on the side of the ship were activated. They moved and faced their targets.
"Targets are locked. The frequencies are set."
"Fire."
6 SLBM-1557's streaked toward their targets. They flew below radar level as not to be detected. They would destroy their targets without the enemy even knowing what hit them...
But it could mean anything, it may even be code for something else entirely.
And you thought my plan was a simple gunfight...
Hotel:
The escape:
Hannibal looks out the window, trying vainly to spot the supposed security detail posted to them that night.
Hannibal: "I don't see anything..."
Ranski: "Nevermind that, help me fix this air conditioner..."
Agent Mendez pulled a white phospherous grenade out of his suitcase, along with a small amount of loose thermite, tossed the thermite onto the air conditioner, and then took the 'hot' grenade and rolled it underneath.
Random person: "What the hell?!"
The room was quickly engulfed in smoke and flames, as each of the men tried to find a safe way out before succombing to the now raging fire. Before leaving Ranski made a note to open one of the gas mains.
"MOVE!"
Hannibal stayed behind, dumbfounded, and simply walked out the front door, his mind was a blur, the only thing he could think about was getting on the plane back to New Roanoke Island... now.
The resaulting explosion behind him only made things worse. As now a silent rage was building, he knew what he had to do. Already he could see the rest of his men ready to assault the terminal.
Reality was considerably different, many of the men went missing during the explosion, and the thick black smoke and constant movement of stunned and shocked tennants and the resaulting mob of gaurds and gawkers, it was easy for both Hannibal and Ranski to get lost.
Agent Mendez was nowhere to be found, though he was obviosly the first man out, wasn't he?
"Sir, the missiles have fired and are on their way to their targets."
"Good, tell the ANS Ganado to pull out and meet in the neutral zone."
"Aye, aye."
A message was sent to the submarine.
"ANS Ganado, you are to pull back to the neutral zone. This is a direct order. You have 3 minutes to be leaving."
The ANS Ganado's captain recieved the message and instructed his crew to pull back.
"We have orders from the ANS Guidance to pull back to the neutral zone. Make it fast. We don't want Saint Fedski to know where they came from."
The ANS Ganado was left and headed toward the neutral zone, 1500 kilometers away.
The ANS Guidance began to leave as well. They were to be backed up by the ANS Guarantee, which would provide fighter coverage should any agressor aircraft come within attacking range. The Guarantee readied its fighters with maxumum loads. The attack group was ready for anything. When they reached the neutral zone, they would load up with supplies, and return home.
The six Asgarnian missiles flew towards the 6th Commonwealth Fleet below the radar umbrella...
"Sir we have incoming missiles!"
"Where?"
"From the east sir"
"Well they aren't on radar..."
"We have a visual sir, coming real fast."
The missiles fly past the north end of the fleet...
"Sir they just passed, they appear to be cruise missiles heading towards West Corinthia."
"Thank you petty officer" The Admiral picked up his radio. "Admiral Bradley, six Asgarnian missiles incoming. Visual reports confirm."
"Roger" Admiral Bradley replied. "General Lynds, we have incoming cruise missiles from the Asgarnian fleet located in the Med. I suggest a slight scatter."
"No need, we have already been spread out."
110 minutes later...
The CIWS systems on board the ships had laser targetted the missiles and were awaiting their arrival.
The mini guns opened fire as missiles came within range of the guns. They rapid rattles, buzzes and hisses continues until the missiles had passed or blown up.
------------------------------------------------
"Admiral, reports of an small vessel, unidentified but said to be carrying soldiers, has left West Corinthia"
"Get a helicopter to follow it. Once the indentity is confirmed, either haul it in or take it out."
"Yes sir!"
Two helicopters from the SFS Sarnia took off to follow the small boat while CF-17s patrolled over the area, keeping an eye on it.
"Fido we have a visual"
"Friend or foe?"
"Unknown at this time. Going for a closer look."
A one of the helicopters flew in for a closer look....
------------------------------------------------
"Are you seeing this too?"
"I think so. It's being recorded right?"
"Yes. I think we should be telling General Lynds about this."
"Me too." The chief monitor turned around on hit stool to pick up his code book. "Fido. This is Ear, over."
"Roger Ear. Whatcha got?"
"Asgarnian communications in the Med. Near the Sixth Fleet. Intership messages report cruise missiles. Possible attack on shipping or land targets."
"Did you get a location?"
"Negative. Communications were near the maximum of our internal devices' and communication ceased just prior to successful location."
"Roger. Keep in touch. Fido out."
"What's going on now Mike?" General Lynds asked the Admiral.
"Our ears have picked up Asgarnian communications relating the missiles somewhere nearer the Sixth Fleet. The Sixth Fleet is already aware of the presence of possible subsurface threats and has begun preparations. What happens over there is out of our hands for now. Naval Command in Kahanistan will have have to take care of that one."
"Let's try to pick up the exact locations next time."
"They'll try ma'am but its not as easy as it sounds."
"I know, its just that we can't have rogue submarines taking popshots with those kinds of weapons. We need to take them out."
"I know I know. Next time we talk with Murph we'll ask for some more frigates and destroyers."
------------------------------------------------
Inside the Hotel...
"What the fuck is that?" The gasped as he interrupted his card game by jumping to his feet.
"Holy shit!" The other guard at the table exclaimed, eyes bulging out at the smoke billowing from under the door and into the hall way.
"What's all the commo...." The Lieutenant stormed around the corner as the fire alarm began going off. "Sergeant, get the Captain, the rest of you, come with me. The Lieutenant charged down the hall with two men while three from the other side also approached the room.
Just as they met, the door opened and the already smokey hallway was now being packed with smoke and flame, and other people, thirteen other people in fact.
"Yes Captain we have...cough cough...a fire. Alert the fire brigade. Status of the occupants is unknown sir."
"Well find out damnit!" The Captain spat into the phone. "Until you find out, treat it as you would any other surprise in a high security operation we can't take any chances tonight. You know that."
"Yes sir!" The Sergeant hung up his phone and drew his side arm, storming back down the hall towards the commotion.
Meanwhile outside the Hotel...
"Look! Fire!" A soldier shouted during a patrol.
"Command, we have a fire at the scene of PROHT residence. Looks to be large. Please advise."
"Hold your position. Additional units will be sent in immediately." Command responded.
"Command to group eight, fire in sector one. Repeat, fire in sector one."
Group Eight was a smaller unit of the paramilitary police battalion which had been deployed to the lockdown situation. Assault rifles, full body armour and complete riot gear were standard for the twenty-five men in the group. They would wait until the fire brigade had arrived on scene and examined the situation before entering the building. It was standard procedure in times of lockdown to ensure the safety and security of all occupants during a crisis.
In the residence of the Chairwoman...
The Chairwoman was involved in an extremely important meeting when security personnel, dressed in standard emerald green suits burst into the room from each of the doors and immediately locked themselves in. The large windows, were blocked off and the lights dimmed.
"Madam Chairwoman, we have a fire at one of the meeting halls. Excuse the intrusion." One of the guards spoke from nearer the blocked out fireplace. "It appears that in the hotel, a fire started in the room in which the Hurtian delegates were staying. The cause and status is currently unknown as is the state of the delegates. No traffic is permitted within the Government District and no persons, aside from police and reserve officers are permitted to be outside until the curtain has been lifted. Any violators risk being shot and killed as per standard 'emergency lockdown emergency protocol.'"
The guard took a couple seconds to catch his breath. "I will be remaining here for the duration of the emergency and in touch with my superiors."
"That's fine, as long as you don't forget I am also your superior."
"Madam Chairwoman you are of course the superior. I was refering to my"
The Chairwoman didn't let him finish. "I know what you meant, I was just ribbin' ya."
"Oh ma'am you joke. Ha ha." Internal Security Force agents weren't known for their sense of humour, especially during a lockdown situation.
Subject: Passage to the Black Sea
Realizing that the situation is volatile, we of the Armed Republic still wish to aid our ally of West Corithia, free from any GASN ties, in this time of need. We would like to move a carrier battle group and two amphibious assault groups into the black sea to ensure that any transitions happen peacefully. We cannot stress enough that this is not to commence hostilities; I am told by the Arch Arsonist himself that the ships will contain only nominal combat personnel, but combat engineers, medical units, and associated support staff. While we are not ready to move through the straights at this point in time, we can in four days time. Because time is of the essence, we cannot wait for authorization if it is delayed, but know that in good faith, we are not on a mission of war. While we feel we could take the straits by force, we also feel that would be counterproductive, and fail to be in anyone's best interests.
Although the Principality of Wilhelmsborough does not like to let unknown foreign navies enter the Black Sea, the current situation has forced us to reevaluate the priorities in our defense. Therefore, the government has decided that your humanitarian fleet will be allowed to pass through.
What we all need right now is trust. As you might have noticed, there is a great deal of mistrust and disagreement between Saint Fedski and West Corinthia. If Mer des Ennuis has the interest of West Corinthia's sovereignty at heart, then we will let you pass into the Black Sea.
We only ask that you remain 40 miles from the southern shores of the Principality. Also, please keep your distance from the Free Republic of Discordia, located 30 miles off the coast of Yalta. The platform nation is under our protection.
Good luck, and God's speed on your humanitarian mission. We only ask that you mind your manners while you're here. You are a guest in this region after all. And don't forget to exhibit some patience when dealing with idiots.
I must admit to being somewhat confused by your reply, it does not seem to cover any subject contained within my original note. We have not, and will not, state which side the Imperium supports, nor which side we believe to be at fault. The Imperial Navy would deploy to the Black Sea as a force deterrent and mediator in this crisis if it spiraled out of control.
I have also taken note of the deployments your nation has made and must point out their provacative nature coming upon the heals of my original note. I must reiterate my point that the Imperium can and will deply sufficient forces to guarantee freedom of passage into and out of the Black Sea. The Imperium does not desire a war with your nation, but to guarantee freedom of the seas Her Imperial Highness will not hesitate to order the destruction of any forces that deny such freedoms.
Your choice, sir, is a blessedly simple one. Cooperate with the Imperium and allow the free passage of all ships into the Black Sea or don't and see your naval forces swept aside.
The LCAC's radar screen light up. The signatures read 1 helicopter and 2 fighters.
"Shit! There's a helo following us!"
"Goddamit! Get some men on the defenses!"
"Aye!"
4 men rushed out of the crew compartment. 1 manned the Anti-Aircraft .50 Cal, and the other 3 readied their FIM-92 Stingers. One of the men fired his Stinger.
"I'm lettin' one go!"
The missile screamed out of the tube. The 3 men waited anxiously. The missile disappeared, and just a moment after, a detonation was heard. The helicopter was hit. A large plume of thick black smoke was visible, but the helo would not go down. The other 2 men readied their Stingers.
"No! Don't fire any more on them! We just want them to leave. If they get closer, hit 'em."
The men wondered what they would do about the Saint Fedskian CF-17's.
"Do you think our Stingers can hit those other aircraft?"
"Nope. Too far out. All we can do is wait."
"Wait, don't we have 2 Heat-Seeking missile launchers on board?"
"Yeah! They're mid-deck on the Port and Starboard side! Get them ready, if those fighters get closed enough, blast 'em!"
"Yes, Sir!"
Just then, the radar showed another helicopter and two more CF-17's.
"I hope we've got a shitload of heat-seakers..."
Empress Lien Larsen was, as always when such things as the West Corinthian "situation" came up, in the War Room recieving updates and reviewing intelligence. Her old job as a Fleet Admiral (a rank she still held even though she was on half-pay status) came in handy here. A Flag Captain attached to the External Security Service was pulling out large, extremely hi-res photos of the Wilhelmsborough deployments. "Look here, Your Highness, notice the way the flight deck is shaped on the smaller carriers is shaped? Those are Nimitz class CVNs."
The Empress whistled, "Talk about your antiques. Okay Captain, as far as you're concerned, and so long as we're in this room, I'm a Fleet Admiral on half pay; no more of this 'Your Highness' nonsense. Now, what about these big carriers?"
"We don't know, ma'am. We assume they're home grown designs and frankly Wilhemlsborough isn't even a blip on our radar as threats go so the ESS hasn't ever bothered with a real force appreciation. Judging from the design, mostly the size, I'd say it can carry somewhere around two and a half to three times the aircraft of the Nimitz class. However, I don't think that means as much as it should because from what I've seen of the aircraft on deck, they're as old as these Nimitzes and not really up to our standards," replied the senior Captain.
"Captain, one thing you're going to learn when you become a real flag officer is that the only sure way to win against inferiors is to treat them like equals. There's no way we're going to match escorts ship-for-ship, at least not without deploying way more fleets than necessary, so we're just going to match up on carriers." Lien grabbed a scrap of paper and wrote a quick note, "Captain, I want you to run this to Admiral Jorgenssen's office. They're the deployment orders I want written up and sent out, so don't lose them or I'll have you busted down to Seaman, understand?"
The Flag Captain came to attention, "Yes, ma'am. Right away, ma'am."
It would take days to prepare the deployment, much less move the ships to sea, but the Empress had just seen to the deployment of six Expeditionary Fleets and four Raider Fleets. The total number of ships wasn't impressive, at least compared to Wilhelmsborough's deployment, but the concentration of capital units was greater and if it came down to a fight the individual superiority of Imperial ships and their arms would no doubt be telling.
I must admit to being somewhat confused by your reply, it does not seem to cover any subject contained within my original note. We have not, and will not, state which side the Imperium supports, nor which side we believe to be at fault. The Imperial Navy would deploy to the Black Sea as a force deterrent and mediator in this crisis if it spiraled out of control.
I have also taken note of the deployments your nation has made and must point out their provacative nature coming upon the heals of my original note. I must reiterate my point that the Imperium can and will deply sufficient forces to guarantee freedom of passage into and out of the Black Sea. The Imperium does not desire a war with your nation, but to guarantee freedom of the seas Her Imperial Highness will not hesitate to order the destruction of any forces that deny such freedoms.
Your choice, sir, is a blessedly simple one. Cooperate with the Imperium and allow the free passage of all ships into the Black Sea or don't and see your naval forces swept aside.
Two hours after recieving the letter, Geddy Lee sent a reply.
From: Geddy Lee, Ministry of Defense
To: Duchess Sadira Saleh, Director of Foreign Services
Subject: Request for cooperation
There is no need to state which side you are on. We have done some research and have found that Scandavian States is a Commonwealth Nation (or at least an ally), and therefore, your sympathy most likely lies with Saint Fedski.
Please Duchess, read carefully. We do not want this to spiral out of control into war. We simply want the Saint Fedskians out of West Corinthia. We want them to go and leave our nations be. We want peace and order to be restored to the Black Sea region. We want calm to once again settle upon these lands.
Duchess, you have stated that you will not reveal which side you support. And you expect us to allow you access into the Black Sea? And make the Czar even more worried that someone is coming to subjugate West Corinthia under foreign rule?
If you will not officially state your intentions or which nation you side with, then how can you expect the Principality to even consider letting your forces through the Bosporus Strait? If you want this cloud of suspicion to be lifted, then I recommend that your country become more clear on where you stand in this conflict.
There is a reason why the Principality wants to know: It's because West Corinthia made the mistake of letting in a nation whose nature and intentions were not made clear. That nation was Saint Fedski. And because West Corinthia didn't do their research, we have the conflict you see today.
Madam Duchess, please try to see this from our prospective.
With regards,
Geddy Lee, Minister of Foreign Relations
Principality of Wilhelmsborough
Crimean Peninsula
-----------------------------
Prince William read a copy of the letter that Ambassador Lee had sent Saint Fedski. His eyes focused on the third paragraph.
Duchess, you have stated that you will not reveal which side you support. And you expect us to allow you access into the Black Sea? And make the Czar even more worried that someone is coming to subjugate West Corinthia under foreign rule?
The Prince snorted. "Oh, the Czar won't be worried. He'll be downright paranoid. Would probably make sense, considering he's so young and inexperienced..."
All of a sudden, realization dawned on Prince William. And he slapped himself on the forehead.
Now he knew why this conflict had gotten this far. In the past, Czar Vasili Kotov might have used his expert finesse to weave his way out of a crisis. But Aleksei wasn't Vasili. He was a kid. A fifteen year old kid.
Czar Aleksei had very little of the skills or the experience that his father pssessed. He certainly had the heart to lead, but as a teenager his heart was wild and unconstrained. He had the passion, but he lacked mental discipline.
As Prince William sat in his office overwhelmed by this revelation, he knew what he had to do. This situation needed much more level heads. Level heads like he own! The Prince nodded solumnly.
He had to take control of situation from the young Czar. Wilhelmsborough and West Corinthia were neighbors and very close allies. The two nations trusted each other.
But as Prince William reached for his phone, he hoped that the West Corinthian Czar trusted him enough to take control of the situation in his country, and manage to get the Saint Fedskians out of his country without any problems.
The Prince dialed the number. The phone started to ring. Somebody picked up the phone.
"You have reached the office of Czar Aleksei Kotov. What is your business here today?" a stern voice came in through the reciever.
The Prince replied.
"This is Prince William Kennedy of the Principality of Wilhelmsborough. I need to speak to Czar Kotov immediately. Please transfer this call to him."
SUB: Final Request
In all honesty there is no way you can possibly know what the Imperium's intentions are, we could just as easily lie to you as not tell you anything. However, if your intelligence services have done the work they should have, you'd know that the Imperium has never subjugated another nation after a war. The proposition is simply too hard and too expensive, and to be frank West Corinthia has nothing that the Imperium doesn't have access to in an abundance. Instead the Imperium tends to content itself with going through its enemies like a tornado through a house and then letting those same enemies pick up the pieces of what's left.
Which leads me to my point. Your nation has closed down a free waterway to a free sea in a futile attempt to protect to protect your ally against some of the world's greatest naval powers. Quite simply, your nation lacks the strength as sea to be anything other than a slight bump in the path of the Imperial Navy or the combined Commonwealth navies. Why you persist in dragging your nation closer and closer to war by defying the Imperium in this simple request is beyond me, but it is ultimately futile and foolish. If the Imperium wished West Corinthia harm their nation, and possibly yours, would already be so much rubble.
Acquiesce to my request and free the waterways leading to the Black Sea or face the Imperium's wrath. This is the final warning you will recieve, the next time you hear from me will be in the form of a declaration of war or a thank you note.
[OOC: Sigh, not again. The reason I had to settle for this usertitle is because of the fact that somebody took it before me. But please address me as 'Southeast Asia' both IC and OOC, as it's the name I originally wanted and I want to be addressed that way. And out of curiousity SS, is the title "Primus of the Imperium" a Latin way of saying "Prime Minister of the Empire"? Is the Scandavian Primus a ceremonial position or a chief of some legislature house?]
Subject: Re: Your message
Dear Primus Deva Chandrasekhar,
It is a great honor and a most delighting pleasure to know that a firm believer of international maritime law has chosen to respond to my message regarding the West Corinthian dilemma. We in Southeast Asia have had very little knowledge about the Imperium of Scandavian States, but we do note your nation's strong ties with the Incorporated States of Sarzonia, whom we have very good relations with. Perhaps this response from myself to you is the beginnings of a prosperous friendship with the Imperium of Scandavian States? And out of curiousity, what is the status of the Imperium of Scandavian States' interstellar exploration program? Recently, Southeast Asia has landed some military forces to escort the research team around Terra Recedentia (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=493991) to search for land suitable for an overseas orbital rocket-launching facility. Perhaps we could do with some cooperative projects or things along those lines, and beyond that, say, wargames with the Imperial Scandavian Navy to help improve our two parties' naval capabilities?
But let us save that for a later discussion. Let us discuss the situation at hand.
Indeed, a peace conference in either New Copenhagen, your Imperium's capital, or the Southeast Asian capital of Singapore to sort out this situation between all those parties that are directly militarily involved in the first place and end all this saber-rattling before the tinderbox finally blows via a peaceful treaty of a resolution would be the ideal situation - but alas, I feel that it likely shall not work. The Saint Fedskian Commonwealth, a state that we in Southeast Asia have had a long-time friendship with diplomatically, distrusts the other side far too much to listen. The Czarist Republic and its allies like the Principality of Wilhelmsborough and the United Democratic Empire of Asgarnieu are also distrusting the opposite faction.
While we in Southeast Asia understand the fact that the Saint Fedskian Government needs a longer duration for withdrawal as a result of unforseen circumstances, we do note the fact that the Saint Fedskian Government has a lack in tactfulness and tends not to beat around the bush. Also, they have had, whether intentionally or not, it does not matter - offended the geopolitical entities in the region the Czarist Republic resides in. Nevertheless, this occupation (unlike the preceding one in Torontia, where they had mixed results - the most of which being arguably negative) has been an improvement to their record. Hopefully next time they will try to use tact and diplomacy more properly.
Now anyway, what is the Imperium's stance regarding the West Corinthian situation - should the volcano of a political tinderbox finally roar up and spout up great flame? You know my government's position regarding the West Corinthian situation: should any belligerent parties - that we in the Southeast Asian Federal-Parliamentarian Government prefer not to point out - start the conflict with Saint Fedski, we shall have no choice but to side with Saint Fedski thanks to likely great misunderstanding, impatience and paranoia from certain parties.
Though of course, often nobody here is truly at fault, for reasons that I have mentioned in my communiqué to all the parties concerned in this dilemma. But we will have no choice but to support Saint Fedski in the great likelihood of the volcano's explosion and the first blow not being from the Commonwealth Armed Forces. And should that situation occur, Primus Chandrasekhar, I have a question for you: what does the Imperium intend to do with the Czarist Republic and it's government?
My colleagues in the government along with myself, feel that a key reason this has all started is due to an inexperienced leader with a lack of pragmatism and somewhat childishness and immaturity in leadership. What does the Imperium plan to do with the nation-states that are supporting the Czarist Republic should they cause the first blow? Return the treatment they may or may not give to Saint Fedski? This is of course, hypothetical, and I only hope for the best to occur.
Yours Sincerely,
Czar Aleksei took a deep breath and rested his head on his arm. "I want you to keep going into the city. If they shoot at you, shoot back." his tone was very calm for someone on the edge of a complete breakdown. The Czar was sitting on a gold-trimmed couch in the sun room of the east wing of the palace, but there was no sun. Dark clouds blotted out all sunlight and warned of oncoming rain.
"..."
"Then secure the artillery emplacements."
A messenger came into the room and handed his I.D. papers to the Myrmidon captain at the door. After being cleared, he approached the Czar with a telephone in hand. "Call for you, m'lord. Prince William, Wilhelmsborough."
The Czar swapped phones with the messenger. "Take that one to Field Marshal Garonov." Once the messenger had left, he spoke into the reciever of the new phone. "Prince William. To what do I owe the honor of this unexpected call?" his voice was shaky, but with a friendly tone of sarcasm.
First, I thank you for your prompt reply. It's always a relief to know that my counter-parts have excellent aides, sometimes the people I send communiques to take so long to reply that I begin to wonder if my message wasn't lost in the shuffle.
I think I shall address your most important query first. In the event that Saint Fedskian forces are attacked the Imperium shall engage the offenders with overwhelming firepower and without mercy. That Czar Alekxsei have reacted in such a strong way to what is a certainty in peace-keeping operations, that is "friendly fire", speaks to the Czar's total inexperience and his ally's inability to give proper council.
In the event of war and the inevitable victory for Saint Fedski's allies, Her Imperial Highness feels it should be be prudent to form an advisory council for Czar Aleksei consisting of representatives from both Saint Fedski's and Czar Aleksei's allies. She feels that they should have the power, first and foremost, to either approve and disapprove foreign policy measures to avoid further negetive impact upon West Corinthia. I agree with the sentiment, although I am personally unsure why she seeks to burden the Imperium with the task when we have a history of non-involvement after the conclusion of a war.
As for a peace conference being hosted in New Copenhagen, such a possibility exists so long as none of Czar Aleksei's allies start a war with Saint Fedski. If somebody is fool enough to seek the destruction of Saint Fedskian forces in the region, then it has been and will be the Imperium's policy to seek unconditional surrender. It is always our hope that any potential enemies would be wise to surrender early, but it has rarely been the case in the past and unfortunately the deployments by Wilhelmsborough give doubt to such this time.
Which brings me to another point. Duchess Sadira Saleh, the Director of Foreign Services, has been communicating with the Foreign Minister of Wilhelmsborough. As you no doubt know, Wilhelmsborough has blockaded the approaches to the Black Sea and has so far refused to allow ships through. This is, frankly, an inexcusable violation of the freedom of the seas and Duchess Saleh has repeatedly asked that the blockade be lifted. Unfortunately they have danced around the issue and Duchess Saleh was forced to lay down an ultimatem; open the seas or face war with the Imperium. Ideally the Imperium would prefer to prosecute any such war independant of the present incident, but I tend to believe that such hopes are ultimately in vain and that it's all going to interconnent anyway. We, that is the government of the Imperium, would greatly appreciate Southeast Asia's support in this matter, should it come to war with Wilhelmsborough.
"Prince William. To what do I owe the honor of this unexpected call?" his voice was shaky, but with a friendly tone of sarcasm.
The Prince took a deep breath.
"Czar Kotov, I want to make this absolutely clear: I too want the Saint Fedskians out of your country. I stand with you in the belief that they are violating your sovereignty. West Corinthia is your country. Nobody should be able to take that away!"
"However your Majesty, as much as we want the Saint Fedskians gone, reality has gotten in our way. Nations are making threats against each other. Threats that Saint Fedski has taken very seriously. So seriously in fact. that their allies have stepped up their action and rhetoric, not just against you, but myself as well!"
"This is very important, Czar. The Scandavian States have threatened war if we do not lift our blockade of military ships entering the Black Sea. And quite frankly, I might have to do it, because their technology is far more advanced than mine and I don't want to see my navy decimated!"
"I know that Saint Fedski has crossed the line telling other nations what to do on their own soil. But you have also made mistakes! Ordering the Saint Fedskians to leave, with the only alternative being all-out war? How else would they respond, they're not going to cower in fear at you! The reason why they came in the first place was because West Corinthia was in chaos and needed help! And the country is still recovering from those events!"
The Prince steeled himself as he made his offer.
"If you want to get the Saint Fedskians completely out of West Corinthia and completely out of the Black Sea, and if you want these foreign nations making threats against your country to cease...then allow me, the Prince of Wilhelmsborough to take control of the situation. Let me represent the interests of West Corinthia, its people, and its Czar. Allow me to speak in your place in your nations dealings with Saint Fedski and its allies, and I promise you there will be no war!"
Location: Bosporus Strait
The 1st Fleet, which was charged with the task of protecting the Black Sea from subversive naval elements and enemy forces...began to pull back.
Nimitz Carriers, Perry and Overlord Frigates, Kirov Battlecruisers, and Seawolf Submarines removed themselves from the Bosporus Strait and entered the Black Sea. There they fell back 12 miles from the Strait.
Now anyone could enter the Black Sea.
But not everything had been pulled out. Five divers were left behind, scattered along the length of the Bosporus. Their sole task (and really all they could do) was to make a count of Scandavian States' submarines entering the Black Sea.
-------------------
Location: Sevastopol Docks
Admiral of the Navy Vittorio Augustine was not happy. He hated the fact that the Principality had been intimidated by another nation into ceasing surveillence of a very important waterway. Now, any form of enemy could enter these waters! Submarines could pass through and attack, just like when that mystery submarine nearly sunk the Free Republic of Discordia!
The Admiral was furious. He only hoped that Scandavian States, came and went quickly. And then, the Principality would never have to deal with them again.
The thought of a brief presence by Scandavian States made the Admiral less angry. However, at that moment, he had to put away his worries about the Bosporus and deal with the reason why he had left Armada One, which even now was setting up a defense perimeter 40 miles from Wilhelmsborough's southern shores.
He had been called to the Sevastopol Naval Docks because one Dr. Deval O'Reilly, one of Wilhelmsborough's prominent weapons scientists had come up with something that he wanted the Admiral to see.
And at that moment Dr. O'Reilly, balding middle-aged man with reddish hair, was rushing up to him.
"Good day to you Admiral Augustine!"
The Admiral nodded politely. "Good day, Doctor. Now what did you want to show me?"
The scientist smiled. "Straight to the point as always! Of course. Right this way Admiral."
The two men walked down towards the docks.
"Admiral, do you recall when the Principality purchased those Pormornik-class LCAC hovercrafts but couldn't find any use for them?"
The Admiral thought about that for a moment and nodded. "I do remember. In fact, as I recall, we gave most of them to you!"
"That's right!" said the Scientist, clearly pleased that the Admiral knew what he was talking about. "Well Admiral, we found a use for them after all!"
At that moment, the men rounded a corner and found themselves looking out upon the open sea. And there, sitting on the water, was a large number of Pormornik hovercrafts. The Admiral could recognized them with but a glance.
But as the Admiral looked at the craft, he saw that there was something different about these LCACs. They looked much more...armed. He turned slowly to Dr. O'Reilly.
"Doctor what did you do here?"
The Scientist grinned. "We have equipped the hovercraft with heavy weapons. Four Sea Zeniths and two RAM launchers have been attached to the main structure."
"RAM launchers-wait, aren't those all Close-in Weapon Systems? The stuff you use when your enemy is close by?"
The scientist nodded enthusiastically. "That's right! They are all designed for close-quartered combat! And that's what they'll do if placed in a combat situation!"
The Admiral raised an eyebrow in scepticism. "What can they do?"
The Scientist paused as he thought of what to say. "You see Admiral...a lot of countries in this world have been driven by the spirit of competition and nationalism to build the largest, most powerful capital ships they possibly can. Such motivations are the stuff of morons. These Super Battlecruisers and Super Dreadnaughts serve only as a means of intimidating other countries with a symbol of naval power."
"But when placed in a combat situation, these ships fare no better than smaller ships. In fact, they might fare worse."
"Honestly, has nobody learned from the Spanish Armada?" O'Reilly chuckled. "Speed and firepower mean nothing when your enemy is smaller and quicker than you are! And that was our idea when we revamped the Pormornik hovercrafts."
Dr. Deval O'Reilly started to explain. "The large capital ships, the Carriers and Super Dreadnaughts, can only travel at speeds of 28 to 36 knots. The Pormornik hovercraft on the other hand, can travel at a whopping 63 knots. Sixty-three, Admiral! And where these capital ships are hundreds, even thousands of meters long, the Pormornik is only 56.2 meters in length! Normally it's very difficult to move something that big across the water at such high speeds, but this can, since it's hovercraft."
"Let me get this straight," began the Admiral. "You armed the hovercraft for the sole purpose of sending it into close quarter combat situations with large capital ships?"
"That's correct sir!" Said the scientist. "The Pormorniks will be so close and moving so fast that the ship will have trouble opening fire on 'em! And in the meantime, they can pound the ship's hulls close to the waterline! They'll be opened up for the sea to drag them down!"
The Admiral had seen enough. "Excellent Job, Dr. O'Reilly. We'll incorporate these Pormorniks into my navy immediately."
Deval's eyes lit up. "Oh thank you so much sir!"
THe Admiral nodded. "Yes, a very clever idea, but then again, cleverness is what we strive for. I'll put in some new orders for more Pormornik LCAC's. In the meantime however, I want you to ship 3 of them to our scientists in The Abyss. Perhaps they can innovate on your design even further."
Subject: Southeast Asian support and other issues
Dear Primus Chandrasekhar,
I appreciate the compliment, and will note that to my aides. But other than trivial gestures, which we are not supposed to discuss about, let's get back to the discussion at hand. The Government of the Principality is quite frankly, a bunch of hypocrites. They complain about Saint Fedski being warmongering imperialists when they themselves annex and incorporate foreign territories (such as the former state of OA Boy Scouts, a silly name really but now not is the time of discussion) when their war machine forces other states to succumb.
And yes, Czar Aleksei does indeed need an advisory council….very serious help at that ruling career of his. That’s the problem with strong monarchies and ruling heirs, weak leadership. The West Corinthian legislature is too weak to keep the balance of power in check. He is a fifteen-year-old, and one can easily tell from observing him and his demeanor that he is not up to the task of leadership. He lacks the personal professionalism and makes it up in over-eagerness for his country and benevolence….and at worst and highly likely, great naivety in his role as the monarch of his country.
But please, should an advisory council be formed for Czar Aleksei, I have only one request: help the Corinthians decide who to be on that council wisely. I have no intention of letting any Wilhelmsborough officials—especially with regards to their leader, Prince William, have a seat in that council. As stated earlier, the two factions distrust each other far too much, and it’s equally likely that the Principality would be foolish enough to challenge one of the world’s mightiest naval forces which are funded by amongst the best naval defense contractors on the planet, the Freethinker Defense Industries Group.
And yes, the Southeast Asian Federal-Parliamentarian Government shall be supporting the Imperium of Scandavian States should armed conflict break out and should it stem from non-Commonwealth or Commonwealth-friendly/allied forces. However, it is usually not the tendency of my cabinet to use military force. We prefer to use politics—specifically, soft power. We prefer the power of diplomacy (though of course, we know that power has its limits regardless of its forms) over military finesse, but it does not mean that we are afraid of protecting our interests overseas via armed force if need be.
I hope that the Imperium shall be let through by the Principality Government in the next communiqué to Duchess Saleh from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Wilhelmsborough, as they have no hope against them in almost all military rights against your military. And even if they do have a slight major advantage, then of course I shall see whether or not they can withstand my nation’s skill in soft power.
Czar Aleksei was tempted by Prince William's offer. But he, like his father, was not one to yield power. Almost regretting his decision, he responded, "As easy as it would be to push the responsibility of this situation onto another, I must decline. How would the Corinthian people view their government if they felt their Czar was incapable of settling disputes? I will seriously consider any suggestion you make, but I cannot legally allow you to speak for West Corinthia."
Aleksei bit his lower lip slightly and paused. "Don't think I'm being arrogant, I'm doing my best to resolve the situation peacefully. And while it may seem that I am playing with fire, I'm only trying to keep that fire in check. Can't you see that the larger nations, Saint Fedski included, would take advantage of us if we did not seem determined to force them out? Keep this secret," the Czar looked nervously over his shoulder, but saw only his loyal Myrmidon bodyguards standing in the room, "I have no intention of beginning a war. We are prepared for one, of course, a defensive plan is already in operation. I am just trying to secure the confidence of the people. Stability through confidence, through trust and loyalty, those are the types of traits I need the people to see."
He paused once more, but not long enough for the Prince to respond as of yet. "And besides, I'm sure you have your own problems to deal with. It seems you've been pressured into lifting your blockade of the Black Sea. Perhaps it was for the best, those are international waters, but we had a good thing going for a short while at least. It will make naval security more difficult, no doubt, but it will be easy to monitor naval traffic via satellite at least." the Czar's tone attempted to make light of a tense situation, and he finally allowed Prince William a chance to respond. As he spoke his last sentence, a patrol of WC-Corsairs screamed overhead, shaking the palace as they broke the sound barrier.
Prince William shook his head. It figured that the young Czar wouldn't ceed the decision making process. He didn't want to loose face before his countrymen.
But when he heard the Czar say "I will seriously consider any suggestion you make," Prince William's mind exploded into action.
"Alright," began the Prince. "You don't want to officially pass off the responsibility to another country. I can understand that. You think it's your burden to carry. Very well then. In that case, Czar Aleksei, how about this? Unofficially, I will tell you what you have to do in terms of easing the situation with Saint Fedski. We can talk over the phone like this, you feeding me information and I telling you how to act.
"And here's the kicker: You can take all the credit for my ideas and say that you came up with them on your own. And I won't ask for my share of the glory! Go ahead and take all the credit for my ideas! Hell, if you win a Peace Prize as a result of this, I won't complain!"
Czar Aleksei closed his eyes tightly and rested the bridge of his nose between his fingers. "That's not what I had in mind. We're in this together. Besides, I feel I've been doing well, Saint Fedski is withdrawing as planned, no fighting has broken out between us, no?"
The Prince raised an eyebrow. "There may not be any fighting going on between nations, but the war of words is astounding! Such dangerous rhetoric! Your Majesty, it's true we're not at war now, but I don't know how long we can keep that up with the way everyone's been talking to each other. I fear that eventually, someone's gonna say the wrong thing, and then, boom! War!"
"By the way, what progress has Saint Fedski made in withdrawing from your country?"
The room the Empress and her service directors, plus her military commanders, occupied was obviously designed for comfort and relaxation. Nothing about the room was oppulant or gaudy, in fact it was very tasteful, but the construction was very obviously done by masters of their trades and the materials were of a quality that reflected well upon the ruler of a large empire. Presently they were speaking of the situation in West Corinthia, "So, have we heard anything back from Wilhelmsborough?"
Sadira shook her head, "Nothing at all, Your Highness. I can understand some delay, but there's a good possbility they're sand-bagging. There's an equally good chance they aren't, in which case we need to give them more time. Personally I'd suggest deploying the fleets and then begin playing up the fact that the Senate is beginning debate on drafting a declaration of war."
Lien shiften her gaze to Deva, "How soon can you go through the motions necessary to begin the debate?"
The Duchess of Padma tilted her head slightly and considered the matter, "Tomorrow, I think. I'd need the correspondance between Sadira and this Geddy Lee, plus deployment readiness estimates from Sven, and that's just about it. If we want to drag out the matter long enough for Wilhelmsborough to get the hint, it's probably a good idea to just include those two items and then take time between debates to come up with any extra needed material."
"Good. Sven, how long is it going to take to get those fleets going?" Empress Lien asked.
"Not more than three days, Highness. All the fleets were ones that were up for local patrols and had been recently refitted, so they're in good shape. It's just a matter of giving their crews time to come back from leave and to move all the needed weapons and store aboard. This is actually a good time for the whole intimidation schtick, because Imperial Defense Network is doing its 'Fleet Week' documentaries. That should give our friends on the Black Sea something to think about," the Admiral of the Fleet answered.
Lien smiled at that, "Gotta love Patriotism. We don't even have to ask for them to cooperate, they provide the propaganda for free and the beauty of it is that they don't have to exaggerate anything that's unclassified."
The Director of the External Security Service, Kama Chalor, had a moment of inspiration and it showed in his eyes, "You know, we could hack their commercial birds and give the good citizens of Wilhelmsborough an extra channel for free for however long this situation lasts. God knows we've practiced enough on our own sats, so hacking theirs should be a walk in the park. If we time it right and add in the Imperial Senate Channel we could start a real shit storm for their government."
"That's not a bad idea, Kama. I'll think about it and get back to you later. In the mean time, try and do a few practice runs just to see if it works," the Empress approved.
"Mom," Lien's twins whined. "Turn on the TV, the Lancers are playing the Highlanders. The Lancers' rookie QB is supposed to be really good."
"Yeah," chimed in the female of the troublesome duo. "Plus, he's really cute."
Xavier de Soto, their father and the Empress' husband, frowned, "Why are you oggling men too old for you when you should be doing your school work?"
"Dad! You know I'm third in my class! Besides, I was 'checking him out' on the first day of the draft, which is during spring break," Princess Chyou complained.
Grumbling, Xavier turned on the holoprojector and everybody present sat back to watch what promised to be a very good football game.
Hurtful Thoughts
Inside the Hotel...
"What the fuck is that?" The gasped as he interrupted his card game by jumping to his feet.
"Holy shit!" The other guard at the table exclaimed, eyes bulging out at the smoke billowing from under the door and into the hall way.
"What's all the commo...." The Lieutenant stormed around the corner as the fire alarm began going off. "Sergeant, get the Captain, the rest of you, come with me. The Lieutenant charged down the hall with two men while three from the other side also approached the room.
Just as they met, the door opened and the already smokey hallway was now being packed with smoke and flame, and other people, thirteen other people in fact.
"Yes Captain we have...cough cough...a fire. Alert the fire brigade. Status of the occupants is unknown sir."
"Well find out damnit!" The Captain spat into the phone. "Until you find out, treat it as you would any other surprise in a high security operation we can't take any chances tonight. You know that."
"Yes sir!" The Sergeant hung up his phone and drew his side arm, storming back down the hall towards the commotion.
Meanwhile outside the Hotel...
"Look! Fire!" A soldier shouted during a patrol.
"Command, we have a fire at the scene of PROHT residence. Looks to be large. Please advise."
"Hold your position. Additional units will be sent in immediately." Command responded.
"Command to group eight, fire in sector one. Repeat, fire in sector one."
Group Eight was a smaller unit of the paramilitary police battalion which had been deployed to the lockdown situation. Assault rifles, full body armour and complete riot gear were standard for the twenty-five men in the group. They would wait until the fire brigade had arrived on scene and examined the situation before entering the building. It was standard procedure in times of lockdown to ensure the safety and security of all occupants during a crisis.
In the residence of the Chairwoman...
The Chairwoman was involved in an extremely important meeting when security personnel, dressed in standard emerald green suits burst into the room from each of the doors and immediately locked themselves in. The large windows, were blocked off and the lights dimmed.
"Madam Chairwoman, we have a fire at one of the meeting halls. Excuse the intrusion." One of the guards spoke from nearer the blocked out fireplace. "It appears that in the hotel, a fire started in the room in which the Hurtian delegates were staying. The cause and status is currently unknown as is the state of the delegates. No traffic is permitted within the Government District and no persons, aside from police and reserve officers are permitted to be outside until the curtain has been lifted. Any violators risk being shot and killed as per standard 'emergency lockdown emergency protocol.'"
The guard took a couple seconds to catch his breath. "I will be remaining here for the duration of the emergency and in touch with my superiors."
"That's fine, as long as you don't forget I am also your superior."
"Madam Chairwoman you are of course the superior. I was refering to my"
The Chairwoman didn't let him finish. "I know what you meant, I was just ribbin' ya."
"Oh ma'am you joke. Ha ha." Internal Security Force agents weren't known for their sense of humour, especially during a lockdown situation.
Igor Ranski:
Stayed nearby the Hotel after the explosion, and was slightly dazed. He was the first delegate found and identified. He would be dealt with later.
Four other Hutrians were also found and identified. They gave up without a struggle.
Hannibal and Mendez are unaccounted for.
Inside the hotel:
The body parts of at several persons lay stewn charred and melted into what remained of the hotel. It was a horrific sight, that coupled with the smell was enough to make anyone not prepared in advance to become suddenly ill.
TO: West Corinthia
FROM: Asgarnian Special Forces Command (ASFCom)
We'll be brief. Pending your approval, 32 ASF Troops can move in from the West Corinthian controlled territory to begin recon and surveillance operations against Saint Fedski in the Saint Fedskian controlled territory. They will only move by night and will be fully equipped to eliminate any resistance. Their primary objective will be spotting and reporting SF troop strength and vehicular power. They may take out targets of opportunity, such as lone patrols, lone vehicles, or lone aircraft in the area. They may also take out strategic targets, such as refueling stations and resupply stations. Thank you for considering our request.
Respectfully,
Maria C. Shoshka
General of The Special Forces of Asgarnieu
NOTE: West Corinthia can deny any knowledge of Asgarnian operations in the area.
The task force was finally steaming away from port at a speed of twenty-five knots. It would take a good while for the Imperial Navy ships to reach their destination, but when they did the task force would represent the long arm of the Imperium. The Sea Lords didn't believe that anybody involved in the West Corinthian situation would be fool enough to attack an Imperial Navy task force or the forces of any nation that had an alliance with the Imperium, however the problem was that the situation was deteriorating so fast that there would likely be a war before the combined expeditionary force had a chance to act as a moderator. In which case a peacekeeping cruise would turn into a combat patrol.
That was not to say that Task Forces 1.1 (Combined Expeditionary Fleets) and 1.2 (Combined Raider Fleets) were not prepared for combat, nothing could have been further from the truth. The crews of the little over 1,000 ships had the best training the Imperium could provide, which by extension meant some of the best training in the world, and millions of missiles and shells. An attack by TF1 could quite literally devastate an entire country, even without resorting to the nuclear weapons carried by the fleet. Hopefully all parties involved would keep a cool head, but if not, well... Pain is the best lesson and the Imperium was a very good teacher.
A day had passed since the cessation of the mass movement of Saint Fedskian military might from the Czarist Republic of West Corinthia.
It was eerily quite as the soldiers dug deeper holes, chopped would for supports and calmed the civilians.
Civilians were allowed to continue on with their daily lives, make phone calls and interact with the counterparts on the other side of the Saint Fedskian positions. Some restrictions were put in place however. Some hills, valleys and isolated buildings were blocked off in order to keep civilian spies from getting too much knowledge about a position and to throw off the West Corinthian and Asgarnian intelligence by setting up false, decoy positions.
Delays in communications have caused the command to lose its observation of the incoming Asgarnian missiles while an airborne shipment of ammo became lost, crashing into mountains on the West Corinthian side of the lines.
Behind the lines, small supply convoys and teams of engineers and civilian construction crews worked around the clock to build and maintain small supply depots, both authentic and false. There were still enough supplies on land to facilitate five days on constant fighting with another three weeks worth left on the ships. A large area of the Negev Desert in Kahanistan had been occupied by the Commonwealth of Saint Fedski for some time now and with their blessing, large quantities of ammunition, fuel, food, water and spare parts had been moved into the depot, ready for transportation to the front.
(I meant the ballistic missiles, but thanks for reminding me about the helicopter scenario)
The helicopter was spewing thick black smoke has it had been hit near the back of the engine with the missile.
"We're hit! We're hit! We have to ditch!" The pilot cried over the radio.
"Roger that. Rover Three Nine, you have permission to engage. Over"
"Roger Eagle Eye. Engaging." The CF-17s responded.
One of the fighters dove towards the ocean behind the boat, while a second circled high above. The fighter, after firing four 'dumb' rockets began to pull up. The second fighter immediately on scene went in for its run.
OOC: I thought you shot down all of my SLCM-1557's with your CIWS...
The men on the deck of the LCAC saw the CF-17's moving toward them. They panicked.
"What the hell!"
"Shit! Get to cover!"
"Right!"
2 of the 'dumb' rockets hit the LCAC. It was likely that it would not make it home. As the CF-17 pulled up, the soldier on the Starboard launcher fired 2 heat-seeking missiles from the 4-tube launcher. The men on the deck followed the missiles. The first one was a loss, but the second one hit the CF-17 in the tail. Massive quantities of black smoke poured out of the aircraft, which was a speck in the sky, visible only by the black smoke. Hopefully, that CF-17 would crash-land or force the pilot to bail over the water. The pilot of the boat ran on the deck informing them of the second CF-17 above. They were sure that it was too far up, but when the Port missile fired 2, they were amazed that they both hit. Again, more black smoke.
"Yes! We got 'em!"
"Hold it now, were taking on water, and we have nowhere to stop and get it repaired. Go to the rear storage unit and see if we have anything to patch up this damn hole."
"Yes Sir."
One man ran to the rear storage unit and retrieved a welder, crowbar, and hammer. He was limping. The pilot was amazed to see that the second CF-17 that had been hit was still flying.
"Damn, that's one strong-ass plane."
"What are we going to do with a welder and a hammer?"
"Got it!"
The soldier limped to the back of the cabin, and pryed off a sheet of thin metal. He brought it to one of the holes and placed the flimsy sheet over it. A perfect fit. He welded it in place. Soon, it was leaking only a few ounces every few minutes. The second hole was a problem. It was a direct hit. A massive 4-foot hole was in the middle of the deck. The soldier pryed off several sheets of metal and welded them together. It didn't fit all the way, but was effective enough to prevent the sinking of the LCAC. As the soldier stood up, he feld extremely dizzy. He looked down, and saw that he was bleeding profusely from his left leg. During the confusion of the rocket attack, a 2-inch shard of the LCAC's deck imbedded itself in his leg. There was blood all over the deck. He passed out.
"Oh, boy. He's down!"
"Do we have a medic here?"
"No. Aw, shit, he's bleeding all over!"
"Get him to the crew-compartment!"
2 men carried him off to prevent him from dying...
